We study associative graded algebras which have a ``complete flag'' of cyclic modules with linear free resolutions, i.e., algebras over which there is a cyclic Koszul module with every admissible number of relations (from zero up to the number of generators of the algebra). Commutative algebras with the same property has been studied in several papers by A. Conca and others. Here we present a non-commutative version.
We introduce the concept of Koszul filtration in non-commutative algebras and study its connections with Koszul algebras and algebras with quadratic Groebner bases. Also, here are considered several examples, such as ``Groebner flags'', generic algebras, and algebras with one relation. A generalization of the concept Koszul filtration (generalized Koszul, or rate, filtration) leads to algebras with finite Backelin's rate and to coherent algebras. One of our main results is that every algebra with Koszul filtration (or with finite rate filtration) has rational Hilbert series.
Let $A$ be a Koszul Calabi-Yau algebra. We show that there exists an isomorphism of Batalin-Vilkovisky algebras between the Hochschild cohomology ring of $A$ and that of its Koszul dual algebra $A^!$. This confirms (a generalization of) a conjecture of R.~Rouquier.
Quadratic algebras associated to pseudo-roots of noncommutative polynomials have been introduced by I. Gelfand, Retakh, and Wilson in connection with studying the decompositions of noncommutative polynomials. Later they (with S. Gelfand and Serconek) shown that the Hilbert series of these algebras and their quadratic duals satisfy the necessary condition for Koszulity. It is proved in this note that these algebras are Koszul.
Associated to any uniform finite layered graph Gamma there is a noncommutative graded quadratic algebra A(Gamma) given by a construction due to Gelfand, Retakh, Serconek and Wilson. It is natural to ask when these algebras are Koszul. Unfortunately, a mistake in the literature states that all such algebras are Koszul. That is not the case and the theorem was recently retracted. We analyze the Koszul property of these algebras for two large classes of graphs associated to finite regular CW complexes, X. Our methods are primarily topological. We solve the Koszul problem by introducing new cohomo…
Let $E$ be a Koszul Frobenius algebra. A Clifford deformation of $E$ is a finite dimensional $\mathbb Z_2$-graded algebra $E(θ)$, which corresponds to a noncommutative quadric hypersurface $E^!/(z)$, for some central regular element $z\in E^!_2$. It turns out that the bounded derived category $D^b(\text{gr}_{\mathbb Z_2}E(θ))$ is equivalent to the stable category of the maximal Cohen-Macaulay modules over $E^!/(z)$ provided that $E^!$ is noetherian. As a consequence, $E^!/(z)$ is a noncommutative isolated singularity if and only if the corresponding Clifford deformation $E(θ)$ is a semisimple …
Under certain conditions, a filtration on an augmented algebra A admits a related filtration on the Yoneda algebra E(A) := Ext_A(K, K). We show that there exists a bigraded algebra monomorphism from gr E(A) to E_Gr(gr A), where E_Gr(gr A) is the graded Yoneda algebra of gr A. This monomorphism can be applied in the case where A is connected graded to determine that A has the K_2 property recently introduced by Cassidy and Shelton.
We define analogues of homogeneous coordinate algebras for noncommutative two-tori with real multiplication. We prove that the categories of standard holomorphic vector bundles on such noncommutative tori can be described in terms of graded modules over appropriate homogeneous coordinate algebras. We give a criterion for such an algebra to be Koszul and prove that the Koszul dual algebra also comes from some noncommutative two-torus with real multiplication. These results are based on the techniques of math.QA/0211262 allowing to interpret all the data in terms of autoequivalences of the deriv…
This paper introduces the study of LG-quadratic quotients of exterior algebras, showing that they are Koszul, as in the commutative case. We construct an example of an LG-quadratic algebra that is not G-quadratic and another example that is Koszul but not LG-quadratic. This is only the second known Koszul algebra that is not LG-quadratic and the first that is noncommutative.
In this paper we show that for a Koszul Calabi-Yau algebra, there is a shifted bi-symplectic structure in the sense of Crawley-Boevey-Etingof-Ginzburg, on the cobar construction of its co-unitalized Koszul dual coalgebra, and hence its DG representation schemes, in the sense of Berest-Khachatryan-Ramadoss, have a shifted symplectic structure in the sense of Pantev-Toën-Vaquié-Vezzosi.
For a Koszul Artin-Schelter regular algebra (also called twisted Calabi-Yau algebra), we show that it has a "twisted" bi-symplectic structure, which may be viewed as a noncommutative and twisted analogue of the shifted symplectic structure introduced by Pantev, Toën, Vaquié and Vezzosi. This structure gives a quasi-isomorphism between the tangent complex and the twisted cotangent complex of the algebra, and may be viewed as a DG enhancement of Van den Bergh's noncommutative Poincaré duality; it also induces a twisted symplectic structure on its derived representation schemes.
Quadratic algebras associated to graphs have been introduced by I. Gelfand, S. Gelfand, and Retakh in connection with decompositions of noncommutative polynomials. Here we show that, for each graph with rare triangular subgraphs, the corresponding quadratic algebra is a Koszul domain with global dimension equal to the number of vertices of the graph.
We study the noncommutative Poincaré duality between the Poisson homology and cohomology of unimodular Poisson algebras, and show that Kontsevich's deformation quantization as well as Koszul duality preserve the corresponding Poincaré duality. As a corollary, the Batalin-Vilkovisky algebra structures that naturally arise in these cases are all isomorphic.
In our companion paper "The Manin Hopf algebra of a Koszul Artin-Schelter regular algebra is quasi-hereditary" we used the Tannaka-Krein formalism to study the universal coacting Hopf algebra aut(A) for a Koszul Artin-Schelter regular algebra A. In this paper we study in detail the case A=k[x,y]. In particular we give a more precise description of the standard and costandard representations of aut(A) as a coalgebra and we show that the latter can be obtained by induction from a Borel quotient algebra. Finally we give a combinatorial characterization of the simple aut(A)-representations as tens…
This is a survey of recently published results. We introduce and study a wide class algebras associated to directed graphs and related to factorizations of noncommutative polynomials. In particular, we show that for many well-known graphs such algebras are Koszul and compute their Hilbert series.
We introduce a class of noncommutatative algebras called representation complete intersections (RCI). A graded associative algebra A is said to be RCI provided there exist arbitrarily large positive integers n such that the scheme Rep_n(A), of n-dimensional representations of A, is a complete intersection. We discuss examples of RCI algebras, including those arising from quivers. There is another interesting class of associative algebras called noncommutative complete intersections (NCCI). We prove that any graded RCI algebra is NCCI. We also obtain explicit formulas for the Hilbert series of …
Let $K$ be an infinite field and $K< X> =K< X_1,...,X_n>$ the free associative algebra generated by $X=\{X_1,...,X_n\}$ over $K$. It is proved that if $I$ is a two-sided ideal of $K< X>$ such that the $K$-algebra $A=K< X> /I$ is almost commutative in the sense of [3], namely, with respect to its standard $\mathbb{N}$-filtration $FA$, the associated $\mathbb{N}$-graded algebra $G(A)$ is commutative, then $I$ is generated by a finite Gröbner basis. Therefor, every quotient algebra of the enveloping algebra $U(\mathbf{g})$ of a finite dimensional $K$-Lie algebra $\mathbf{g}$ is, as a noncommutati…
We examine the N-Koszul calculus for the N-symmetric algebras. The case N=2 corresponds to the Elie Cartan calculus. We conjecture that, as in the case N=2, the N-Cartan calculus extends to manifolds when N>2, which would provide a new type of noncommutative differential geometry.
Let $A$ be a noetherian Koszul Artin-Schelter regular algebra, and let $f\in A_2$ be a central regular element of $A$. The quotient algebra $A/(f)$ is usually called a (noncommutative) quadric hypersurface. In this paper, we use the Clifford deformation to study the quadric hypersurfaces obtained from the tensor products. We introduce a notion of simple graded isolated singularity and proved that, if $B/(g)$ is a simple graded isolated singularity of 0-type, then there is an equivalence of triangulated categories $\underline{\text{mcm}}\,A/(f)\cong\underline{\text{mcm}}\,(A\otimes B)/(f+g)$ of…
We construct a family of connected graded domains of GK-dimension 4 that are birational to P2, and show that the general member of this family is noetherian. This disproves a conjecture of the first author and Stafford. The algebras we construct are Koszul and have global dimension 4. They fail to be Artin-Schelter Gorenstein, however, showing that a theorem of Zhang and Stephenson for dimension 3 algebras does not extend to dimension 4. The Auslander-Buchsbaum formula also fails to hold for our family. The algebras can be obtained as global sections of a certain quasicoherent graded sheaf on …
In this paper, we show that for a Koszul $n$-homogeneous algebra $Λ$, the quadratic dual of certain twisted trivial extension is the $(n+1)$-preprojective algebra of its quadratic dual, that is, $ (Δ_νΛ)^{!,op} \simeqΠ( Λ^{ !, op })$. This is applied to the $τ$-slice algebras of stable $n$-translation algebras and gives a noncommutative version of Bernstein-Gelfand-Gelfand correspondence for such algebras.
We introduce a new formalism of differential operators for a general associative algebra A. It replaces Grothendieck's notion of differential operator on a commutative algebra in such a way that derivations of the commutative algebra are replaced by DDer(A), the bimodule of double derivations. Our differential operators act not on the algebra A itself but rather on F(A), a certain `Fock space' associated to any noncommutative algebra A in a functorial way. The corresponding algebra D(F(A)), of differential operators, is filtered and gr D(F(A)), the associated graded algebra, is commutative in …
Assume that we are given a semifree noncommutative differential graded algebra (DGA for short) whose differential respects an action filtration. We show that the canonical unital algebra map from the homology of the DGA to its characteristic algebra, i.e. the quotient of the underlying algebra by the two-sided ideal generated by the boundaries, is a monomorphism. The main tool that we use is the weak division algorithm in free noncommutative algebras due to P. Cohn.
The lower central series invariants M_k of an associative algebra A are the two-sided ideals generated by k-fold iterated commutators; the M_k provide a filtration of A. We study the relationship between the geometry of X = Spec A_ab and the associated graded components N_k of this filtration. We show that the N_k form coherent sheaves on a certain nilpotent thickening of X, and that Zariski localization on X coincides with noncommutative localization of A. Under certain freeness assumptions on A, we give an alternative construction of N_k purely in terms of the geometry of X (and in particula…
We study general properties of Hodge-type decompositions of cyclic and Hochschild homology of universal enveloping algebras of (DG) Lie algebras. Our construction generalizes the operadic construction of cyclic homology of Lie algebras due to Getzler and Kapranov. We give a topological interpretation of such Lie Hodge decompositions in terms of $S^1$-equivariant homology of the free loop space of a simply connected topological space. We prove that the canonical derived Poisson structure on a universal enveloping algebra arising from a cyclic pairing on the Koszul dual coalgebra preserves the H…
A domain $R$ is said to have the finite factorization property if every nonzero non-unit element of $R$ has at least one and at most finitely many distinct factorizations up to multiplication of irreducible factors by central units. Let $k$ be an algebraically closed field and let $A$ be a $k$-algebra. We show that if $A$ has an associated graded ring that is a domain with the property that the dimension of each homogeneous component is finite then $A$ is a finite factorization domain. As a corollary, we show that many classes of algebras have the finite factorization property, including Weyl …
Let $R=\oplus_{Γ\inΓ}R_γ$ be a $Γ$-graded $K$-algebra over a field $K$, where $Γ$ is a totally ordered semigroup, and let $I$ be an ideal of $R$. Considering the $Γ$-grading filtration $FR$ of $R$ and the $Γ$-filtration $FA$ induced by $FR$ for the quotient $K$-algebra $A=R/I$, we show that there is a $Γ$-graded $K$-algebra isomorphism $G(A)\cong \bar{A}=R/<\hbox{\bf HT} (I)>$, where $G(A)$ is the associated $Γ$-graded $K$-algebra of $A$ defined by $FA$, and $<\hbox{\bf HT}(I)>$ is the $Γ$-graded ideal of $R$ generated by the set of head terms of $I$. In the case that $Γ$ is an ordered monoid …
