A complete description of the deformation classes of real ruled manifolds is given. In particular, we prove that once the complex deformation class is fixed, the real deformation class is prescribed by the topology of the real structure.
A smooth family $φ:\mathcal V\to S$ of surfaces will be called {\em completable} if there is a logarithmic deformation $(\bar {\mathcal V},{\mathcal D})$ over $S$ so that ${\mathcal V}=\bar{\mathcal V}\backslash {\mathcal D}$. Two smooth surfaces $V$ and $V'$ are said to be deformations of each other if there is a completable flat family ${\mathcal V}\to S$ of smooth surfaces over a connected base so that $V$ and $V'$ are fibers over suitable points $s,s'\in S$. This relation generates an equivalence relation called {\em deformation equivalence}. In this paper we give a complete combinatorial …
In this paper, we give a complete description of the deformation classes of real structures on minimal ruled surfaces. In particular, we show that these classes are determined by the topology of the real structure, which means that real minimal ruled surfaces are quasi-simple. As an intermediate result, we obtain the classification, up to conjugation, of real structures on decomposable ruled surfaces.
We give a explicit description of gluing stability conditions on ruled surfaces by introducing gluing perversity. Moreover, we describe a destabilizing wall of skyscraper sheaves on ruled surfaces by deformation of stability conditions glued from $\widetilde{GL^{+}}(2,\mathbb{R})$-translates of the standard stability condition on the base curve.
Let $S$ be a birationally ruled surface. We show that the moduli schemes $M_S(r,c_1,c_2)$ of semistable sheaves on $S$ of rank $r$ and Chern classes $c_1$ and $c_2$ are irreducible for all $(r,c_1,c_2)$ provided the polarization of $S$ used satisfies a simple numerical condition. This is accomplished by proving that the stacks of prioritary sheaves on $S$ of fixed rank and Chern classes are smooth and irreducible.
We study a formal deformation problem for rational algebraic cycle classes motivated by Grothendieck's variational Hodge conjecture. We argue that there is a close connection between the existence of a Chow-Künneth decomposition and the existence of expected deformations of cycles. This observation applies in particular to abelian schemes.
We study 8-point configurations in the real projective space forming an intersection locus of three quadrics and containing no coplanar quadruples. We found that there exists precisely 8 mirror-pairs of deformation classes of such configurations. We describe also the mutual position of these 8 pairs and find the real monodromy groups acting on the 8-point configurations, for each deformation class.
We study the p-adic deformation properties of algebraic cycle classes modulo rational equivalence. We show that the crystalline Chern character of a vector bundle lies in a certain part of the Hodge filtration if and only if, rationally, the class of the vector bundle lifts to a formal pro-class in K-theory on the p-adic scheme.
We give a universal approach to the deformation-obstruction theory of objects of the derived category of coherent sheaves over a smooth projective family. We recover and generalise the obstruction class of Lowen and Lieblich, and prove that it is a product of Atiyah and Kodaira--Spencer classes. This allows us to obtain deformation-invariant virtual cycles on moduli spaces of objects of the derived category on threefolds.
We show that the infinitesimal deformations of the Brill--Noether locus $W_d$ attached to a smooth non-hyperelliptic curve $C$ are in one-to-one correspondence with the deformations of $C$. As an application, we prove that if a Jacobian $J$ deforms together with a minimal cohomology class out the Jacobian locus, then $J$ is hyperelliptic. In particular, this provides an evidence to a conjecture of Debarre on the classification of ppavs carrying a minimal cohomology class. Finally, we also study simultaneous deformations of Fano surfaces of lines and intermediate Jacobians.
An MBM locus on a hyperkahler manifold is the union of all deformations of a minimal rational curve with negative self-intersection. MBM loci can be equivalently defined as centers of bimeromorphic contractions. It was shown that the MBM loci on deformation equivalent hyperkahler manifolds are diffeomorphic. We determine the MBM loci on a hyperkahler manifold of K3-type of low dimension using a deformation to a Hilbert scheme of a non-algebraic K3 surface.
We will prove that the number of deformation equivalence classes of surfaces homotopy equivalent to a smooth, closed 4-manifold is finite, if the first Betti number is equal to one, and the second Betti number is equal to zero.
In this article we determine exactly which line bundles on elliptic ruled surface X are normally presented. In particular we see that numerical classes of normally presented divisors form a convex set. (recall that Num(X) is generated by the class of a minimal section C_0 and by the class of a fiber f and that C_0 is ample.) As a corollary of the above result we show that Mukai's conjecture is true for the normal presentation of the it adjoint linear series for an elliptic ruled surface. In section 5 of this article, we show that if L is normally presented on X then the homogeneous coordinate …
We seek to characterize homology classes of Lagrangian projective spaces embedded in irreducible holomorphic-symplectic manifolds, up to the action of the monodromy group. This paper addresses the case of manifolds deformation-equivalent to the Hilbert scheme of length-three subschemes of a K3 surface. The class of the projective space in the cohomology ring has prescribed intersection properties, which translate into Diophantine equations. Possible homology classes correspond to integral points on an explicit elliptic curve; our proof entails showing that the only such point is two-torsion.
We study real nonsingular projective cubic fourfolds up to deformation equivalence combined with projective equivalence and prove that they are classified by the conjugacy classes of involutions induced by the complex conjugation in the middle homology. Moreover, we provide a graph whose vertices represent the equivalence classes of such cubics and edges represent their adjacency. It turns out that this graph essentially coincides with the graph characterizing a certain adjacency of real non-polarized K3-surfaces.
We compare the obstruction classes defined in arXiv:1101.4069 to those defined by Illusie. We also give sheaf theoretic proofs of some of the standard properties of the cotangent complex.
We give a new definition of an obstruction theory for infinitesimal deformation theory and relate it to earlier definitions of Artin, Fantechi-Manetti, Li-Tian, and Behrend-Fantechi.
In this paper, we provide constructions to enumerate large numbers of CI-liaison classes. To this end, we introduce a liaison invariant and prove several results concerning it, notably that it commutes with hypersurface sections. This theory is applied to the CI-liaison classes of ruled joins of projective schemes, yielding strong obstructions for such joins to lie in the same liaison class. A second construction arises from the actions of automorphisms on liaison classes, allowing the enumeration of many liaison classes of perfect ideals of codimension at least three.
A configuration of 7 points in RP2 is called typical if it has no collinear triples and no coconic sextuples of points. We show that there exist 14 deformation classes of such configurations. This yields classification of real Aronhold sets.
In this paper, we establish a deformation theory for Dolbeault cohomology classes valued in holomorphic tensor bundles. We prove the extension equation which will play the role of Maurer-Cartan equation. Following the classical theory of Kodaira-Spencer-Kuranishi, we construct a canonical complete family of deformations by using the power series method. We also prove a simple relation between the existence of deformations and the varying of the dimensions of Dolbeault cohomology. The deformations of $(p,q)$-forms is shown to be unobstructed under some mild conditions. By analyzing Nakamura's e…
We study real elliptic surfaces and trigonal curves (over a base of an arbitrary genus) and their equivariant deformations. We calculate the real Tate-Shafarevich group and reduce the deformation classification to the combinatorics of a real version of Grothendieck's {\it dessins d'enfants}. As a consequence, we obtain an explicit description of the deformation classes of $M$- and $(M-1)$- (i.e., maximal and submaximal in the sense of the Smith inequality) curves and surfaces.
We review the relations between compact complex manifolds carrying various types of Hermitian metrics (Kähler, balanced or {\it strongly Gauduchon}) and those satisfying the $\partial\bar\partial$-lemma or the degeneration at $E_1$ of the Frölicher spectral sequence, as well as the behaviour of these properties under holomorphic deformations. The emphasis will be placed on the notion of {\it strongly Gauduchon} (sG) manifolds that we introduced recently in the study of deformation limits of projective and Moishezon manifolds. Various examples of sG and non-sG manifolds are exhibited while a ra…
Let X be a hyperkahler manifold deformation equivalent to a Hilbert scheme of n points on a K3 surface. We compute the graded character formula of the generic Mumford-Tate group representation on the cohomology ring of X, and derive a generating series for deducing the number of canonical Hodge classes on X. The formula indicates the number of Hodge classes on X that remain Hodge under any deformation.
This paper deals with rational curves and birational contractions on irreducible holomorphically symplectic manifold. We survey some recent results about minimal rational curves, their deformations, extremal rays associated with these curves, and the geometry of the Kähler cone.
We study the deformation-obstruction theory of Koszul cohomology groups of $g^r_d$'s on singular nodal curves. We compute the obstruction classes for Koszul cohomology classes on singular curves to deform to a smooth one. In the case the obstructions are nontrivial, we obtain some partial results for generic vanishing of Koszul cohomology groups.
Let $X_1$ and $X_2$ be deformation equivalent projective hyperkähler manifolds. We prove that the André motive of $X_1$ is abelian if and only if the André motive of $X_2$ is abelian. Applying this to manifolds of $\mbox{K3}^{[n]}$, generalized Kummer and OG6 deformation types, we deduce that their André motives are abelian. As a consequence, we prove that all Hodge classes in arbitrary degree on such manifolds are absolute. We discuss applications to the Mumford-Tate conjecture, showing in particular that it holds for even degree cohomology of such manifolds.
The nonsingular real plane algebraic curves of given degree $d$ are considered either up to isotopy or up to deformation. The asymptotic behavior of the number $I_d$ of isotopy classes and the number $D_d$ of deformation classes are studied. It is shown, in particular, that $log I_d\asypt d^2$. Other related problems and their higher dimensional generalisations are discussed.
In \cite{K} we introduced two variants of higher-order differentials of the period map and showed how to compute them for a variation of Hodge structure that comes from a deformation of a compact Kähler manifold. More recently there appeared several works (\cite{BG}, \cite{EV}, \cite{R}) defining higher tangent spaces to the moduli and the corresponding higher Kodaira-Spencer classes of a deformation. The $n^{th}$ such class $κ_n$ captures all essential information about the deformation up to $n^{th}$ order. A well-known result of Griffiths states that the (first) differential of the period ma…
We study the symplectic analogue of log Calabi-Yau surfaces and show that the symplectic deformation classes of these surfaces are completely determined by the homological information.
According to our previous results, the conjugacy class of the involution induced by the complex conjugation in the homology of a real non-singular cubic fourfold determines the fourfold up to projective equivalence and deformation. Here, we show how to eliminate the projective equivalence and to obtain a pure deformation classification, that is how to respond to the chirality question: which cubics are not deformation equivalent to their image under a mirror reflection. We provide an arithmetical criterion of chirality, in terms of the eigen-sublattices of the complex conjugation involution in…
We formulate a notion of $E_{-1}$ quantisation of $(-2)$-shifted Poisson structures on derived algebraic stacks, depending on a flat right connection on the structure sheaf, as solutions of a quantum master equation. We then parametrise $E_{-1}$ quantisations of $(-2)$-shifted symplectic structures by constructing a map to power series in de Rham cohomology. For derived schemes, we show that these quantisations give rise to classes in Borel--Moore homology, and for a large class of examples we show that the classes are closely related to Borisov--Joyce invariants.
We consider classes of noncompact n-folds with trivial canonical bundle, that are linear foliations on nonsingular projective varieties, in general without a projection to the base. We obtain them as first-order deformations of total spaces of vector bundles on those varieties.
This paper is the continuation of arXiv:0802.1245. We construct the Hochschild class for coherent modules over a deformation quantization algebroid on a complex Poisson manifold. We also define the convolution of Hochschild homologies, and prove that the Hochschild class of the convolution of two coherent modules is the convolution of their Hochschild classes. We study with some details the case of symplectic deformations.
The deformation of a variety $X$ to the normal cone of a subvariety $Y$ is a classical construction in algebraic geometry. In this paper we study the case when $(X,ω)$ is a compact Kähler manifold and $Y$ is a submanifold. The deformation space $\mathcal{X}$ is fibered over $\mathbb{P}^1$ and all the fibers $X_τ$ are isomorphic to $X$, except the zero-fiber, which has the projective completion of the normal bundle $N_{Y|X}$ as one of its components. The first main result of this paper is that one can find Kähler forms on modifications of $\mathcal{X}$ which restricts to $ω$ on $X_1$ and which …
Let $M$ be a smooth algebraic variety of dimension $2(p+q)$ with an algebraic symplectic form and a compatible deformation quantization $\mathcal{O}_h$ of the structure sheaf. Consider a smooth coisotropic subvariety $j: Y \to M$ of codimension $q$ and a vector bundle $E$ on $Y$. We show that if $j_* E$ admits a deformation quantization (as a module) then its characteristic class $\widehat{A}(M) exp(-c(\mathcal{O}_h)) ch(j_* E)$ lifts to a cohomology group associated to the null foliation of $Y$. Moreover, it can only be nonzero in degrees $2q, \ldots, 2(p+q)$. For Lagrangian $Y$ this reduces …
I prove that every finite-dimensional Poisson manifold X admits a canonical deformation quantization. Informally, it means that the set of equivalence classes of associative algebras close to the algebra of functions on X is in one-to-one correspondence with the set of equivalence classes of Poisson structures on X modulo diffeomorphisms. In fact, a more general statement is proven ("Formality conjecture"), relating the Lie superalgebra of polyvector fields on X and the Hochschild complex of the algebra of functions on X. Coefficients in explicit formulas for the deformed product can be interp…
