In this paper we construct a linear space that parameterizes all invariant bilinear forms on a given vertex algebra with values in a arbitrary vector space. Also we prove that every invariant bilinear form on a vertex algebra is symmetric. This is a generalization of the result of H. Li [J. Pure and Appl. Algebra, 96(3):279-297, 1994], who proved this for the case when the vertex algebra is non-negatively graded and has finite dimensional homogeneous components.
As an application, we introduce a notion of a radical of a vertex algebra. We prove that a radical-free vertex algebra A is non-negatively graded, and its component A_0 of degree 0 is a commutative associative algebra, so that all structural maps and operations on A are A_0-linear. We also show that in this case A is simple if and only if A_0 is a field.
In this paper, we study contragredient duals and invariant bilinear forms for modular vertex algebras (in characteristic $p$). We first introduce a bialgebra $\mathcal{H}$ and we then introduce a notion of $\mathcal{H}$-module vertex algebra and a notion of $(V,\mathcal{H})$-module for an $\mathcal{H}$-module vertex algebra $V$. Then we give a modular version of Frenkel-Huang-Lepowsky's theory and study invariant bilinear forms on an $\mathcal{H}$-module vertex algebra. As the main results, we obtain an explicit description of the space of invariant bilinear forms on a general $\mathcal{H}$-mo…
This paper is to study vertex operator superalgebras which are strongly generated by their weight-$2$ and weight-$\frac{3}{2}$ homogeneous subspaces. Among the main results, it is proved that if such a vertex operator superalgebra $V$ is simple, then $V_{(2)}$ has a canonical commutative associative algebra structure equipped with a non-degenerate symmetric associative bilinear form and $V_{(\frac{3}{2})}$ is naturally a $V_{(2)}$-module equipped with a $V_{(2)}$-valued symmetric bilinear form and a non-degenerate ($\mathbb{C}$-valued) symmetric bilinear form, satisfying a set of conditions. O…
The radical $J(V)$ of a vertex operator algebra $V$ is defined to be the subspace of $V$ consisting of vectors $v$ such that the zero mode $o(v)=0$ on $V$ where $o(v)=v_{wt v-1}$ if $v$ is homogeneous. We establish various facts about $o(v),$ including the determination of $J(V)$ which is shown to be essentially equal to $(L(0)+L(-1))V.$
We investigate a general structure theory for a vertex operator algebra. We discuss the center and blocks, the Jacobson radical and solvable radical and local vertex operator algebras. The main consequence of our structure theory is that if the vertex operator algebra satisfies some mild conditions then it is necessarily semilocal, i.e. a direct sum of local vertex operator algebras.
We investigate the general structure of the automorphism group and the Lie algebra of derivations of a finitely generated vertex operator algebra. The automorphism group is isomorphic to an algebraic group. Under natural assumptions, the derivation algebra has an invariant bilinear form and the ideal of inner derivations is nonsingular.
We found a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of the tensor product of modules over a vertex algebra. We defined the notion of vertex bilinear map and we provide two algebraic construction of the tensor product, where one of them is of ring theoretical type. We show the relation between the tensor product and the vertex homomorphisms. We prove the commutativity of the tensor product. We also prove the associativity of the tensor product of modules under certain necessary and sufficient condition. Finally, we show certain functorial properties of the vertex homomorphims and th…
We construct and study SUSY lattice vertex algebras. As a simple example, we obtain the simple vertex algebra associated to the vertex algebra $V_c(N3)$ of central charge $c=3/2$, as the SUSY lattice vertex algebra associated to $\mathbb{Z}$ with bilinear form $(a,b) = 2ab$.
In this note we associate to each Frobenius algebra a vertex algebra, the simplest example being the Virasoro vertex algebra. This construction is analogous to the procedure which associates to a Lie algebra with an invariant bilinear form the vacuum module over the corresponding Kac-Moody Lie algebra.
The notion of vertex operator coalgebra is presented which corresponds to the family of correlation functions of one string propagating in space-time splitting into n strings in conformal field theory. This notion is in some sense dual to the notion of vertex operator algebra. We prove that any vertex operator algebra equipped with a non-degenerate, Virasoro preserving, bilinear form gives rise to a corresponding vertex operator coalgebra.
We construct an irrational C_2-cofinite vertex operator algebra associatted to a finite dimensional vector space with a nondegenerate skew-symmetric bilinear form. We also classify its equivalence classes of irreducible modules and determine its automorphism group.
It is shown that a simple vertex operator algebra V is rational if and only if its Zhu algebra A(V) is semisimple and each irreducible admissible V-module is ordinary. A contravariant form on a Verma type admissible V-module is constructed and the radical is exactly the maximal proper submodule. As an application the rationality of V_L^+ for any positive definite even lattice is obtained.
We give a short introduction to generalized vertex algebras, using the notion of polylocal fields. We construct a generalized vertex algebra associated to a vector space h with a symmetric bilinear form. It contains as subalgebras all lattice vertex algebras of rank equal to dim h and all irreducible representations of these vertex algebras.
We prove that if $V$ is a $C_2$-cofinite simple vertex operator algebra of CFT-type with a nonsingular invariant bilinear form and its an automorphism group $G$ is finite, then an orbifold model $V^G$ is also $C_2$-cofinite.
The Frobenius-Perron dimension for an abelian category was recently introduced. We apply this theory to the category of representations of the finite-dimensional radical squared zero algebras associated to certain modified ADE graphs. In particular, we take an ADE quiver with arrows in a certain orientation and an arbitrary number of loops at each vertex. We show that the Frobenius-Perron dimension of this category is equal to the maximum number of loops at a vertex. Along the way, we introduce a result which can be applied in general to calculate the Frobenius-Perron dimension of a radical sq…
We give a new construction of the moonshine VOA V^{\natural} over the real number field. We proved that V^{\natural} has a positive definite invariant bilinear form and its full automorphism group is the Monster simple group. We also construct an infinite series of meromorphic VOAs whose full automorphism groups are finite. We calculate the trace form on V^{\natural} for some element of the Monster.
We solve the problem of constructing a genus-zero full conformal field theory (a conformal field theory on genus-zero Riemann surfaces containing both chiral and antichiral parts) from representations of a simple vertex operator algebra satisfying certain natural finiteness and reductive conditions. We introduce a notion of full field algebra which is essentially an algebraic formulation of the notion of genus-zero full conformal field theory. For two vertex operator algebras, their tensor product is naturally a full field algebra and we introduce a notion of full field algebra over such a ten…
Given a finite-dimensional reductive Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ equipped with a nondegenerate, invariant, symmetric bilinear form $B$, let $V^k(\mathfrak{g},B)$ denote the universal affine vertex algebra associated to $\mathfrak{g}$ and $B$ at level $k$. Let $\mathcal{A}^k$ be a vertex (super)algebra admitting a homomorphism $V^k(\mathfrak{g},B)\rightarrow \mathcal{A}^k$. Under some technical conditions on $\mathcal{A}^k$, we characterize the coset $\text{Com}(V^k(\mathfrak{g},B),\mathcal{A}^k)$ for generic values of $k$. We establish the strong finite generation of this coset in full generali…
Given a finite-dimensional complex Lie algebra g equipped with a nondegenerate, symmetric, invariant bilinear form B, let V_k(g,B) denote the universal affine vertex algebra associated to g and B at level k. For any reductive group G of automorphisms of V_k(g,B), we show that the invariant subalgebra V_k(g,B)^G is strongly finitely generated for generic values of k. This implies the existence of a new family of deformable W-algebras W(g,B,G)_k which exist for all but finitely many values of k.
In this paper we prove that for any commutative (but in general non-associative) algebra $A$ with an invariant symmetric non-degenerate bilinear form there is a graded vertex algebra $V = V_0 \oplus V_2 \oplus V_3\oplus ...$, such that $\dim V_0 = 1$ and $V_2$ contains $A$. We can choose $V$ so that if $A$ has a unit $e$, then $2e$ is the Virasoro element of $V$, and if $G$ is a finite group of automorphisms of $A$, then $G$ acts on $V$ as well. In addition, the algebra $V$ can be chosen with a non-degenerate invariant bilinear form, in which case it is simple.
We revisit the construction of deformed Virasoro algebras from elliptic quantum algebras of vertex type, generalizing the bilinear trace procedure proposed in the 90's. It allows us to make contact with the vertex operator techniques that were introduced separately at the same period. As a by-product, the method pinpoints two critical values of the central charge for which the center of the algebra is extended, as well as (in the $gl(2)$ case) a Liouville formula.
Given a collection of modules of a vertex algebra parametrized by an abelian group, together with one dimensional spaces of composable intertwining operators, we assign a canonical element of the cohomology of an Eilenberg-Mac Lane space. This element describes the obstruction to locality, as the vanishing of this element is equivalent to the existence of a vertex algebra structure with multiplication given by our intertwining operators, and given existence, the structure is unique up to isomorphism. The homological obstruction reduces to an "evenness" problem that naturally vanishes for 2-div…
In this paper we discuss the second bosonization of the Hirota bilinear equation for the CKP hierarchy introduced by Date, Jimbo, Kashiwara and Miwa. We show that there is a second, untwisted, Heisenberg action on the Fock space, in addition to the twisted Heisenberg action suggested by Date, Jimbo, Kashiwara and Miwa and studied by van de Leur, Orlov and Shiota. We derive the decomposition of the Fock space into irreducible Heisenberg modules under this action. We show that the space spanned by the highest weight vectors of the irreducible Heisenberg modules has a structure of a super vertex …
We construct vertex operator representations for the full (N+1)-toroidal Lie algebra g. We associate with g a toroidal vertex operator algebra, which is a tensor product of an affine VOA, a sub-VOA of a hyperbolic lattice VOA, affine sl(N) VOA and a twisted Heisenberg-Virasoro VOA. The modules for the toroidal VOA are also modules for the toroidal Lie algebra g. We also construct irreducible modules for an important subalgebra gdiv of the toroidal Lie algebra that corresponds to the divergence free vector fields. This subalgebra carries a non-degenerate invariant bilinear form. The VOA that co…
We present a novel differential-difference system in (2+1)-dimensional space-time (one discrete, two continuum), arisen from the Bogoyavlensky's (2+1)-dimensional KdV hierarchy. Our method is based on the bilinear identity of the hierarchy, which is related to the vertex operator representation of the toroidal Lie algebra $\sl_2^{tor}$.
Let $\mathfrak{g}$ be a simple finite-dimensional Lie superalgebra with a non-degenerate supersymmetric even invariant bilinear form, $f$ a nilpotent element in the even part of $\mathfrak{g}$, $Γ$ a good grading of $\mathfrak{g}$ for $f$ and $\mathcal{W}^{k}(\mathfrak{g},f;Γ)$ the $\mathcal{W}$-algebra associated with $\mathfrak{g},f,k,Γ$ defined by the generalized Drinfeld-Sokolov reduction. In this paper, we present each $\mathcal{W}$-algebra as the intersection of kernels of the screening operators, acting on the tensor vertex superalgebra of an affine vertex superalgebra and a neutral fre…
We introduce an extension of the \ell-reduced KP hierarchy, which we call the \ell-Bogoyavlensky hierarchy. Bogoyavlensky's 2+1-dimensional extension of the KdV equation is the lowest equation of the hierarchy in case of \ell=2. We present a group-theoretic characterization of this hierarchy on the basis of the 2-toroidal Lie algebra sl_\ell^{tor}. This reproduces essentially the same Hirota bilinear equations as those recently introduced by Billig and Iohara et al. We can further derive these Hirota bilinear equation from a Lax formalism of the hierarchy. This Lax formalism also enables us to …
