在自举逾渗模型中,$L$乘$L$正方形中的站点最初以概率$p$独立地被宣布为活跃的。在每个时间步,如果一个非活动站点的四个邻居中至少有两个是活动的,则该非活动站点变为活动站点。我们研究的行为作为$p \to 0$和$L \to \infty$同时的概率$I(L,p)$,整个广场最终是活跃的。我们证明了$I(L,p) \to 1$如果$\liminf p \log L > λ$,和$I(L,p) \to 0$如果$\limsup p \log L < λ$,其中$λ= π^2/18$。
In the bootstrap percolation model, sites in an $L$ by $L$ square are initially independently declared active with probability $p$. At each time step, an inactive site becomes active if at least two of its four neighbours are active. We study the behaviour as $p \to 0$ and $L \to \infty$ simultaneously of the probability $I(L,p)$ that the entire square is eventually active. We prove that $I(L,p) \to 1$ if $\liminf p \log L > λ$, and $I(L,p) \to 0$ if $\limsup p \log L < λ$, where $λ= π^2/18$. We prove the same behaviour, with the same threshold $λ$, for the probability $J(L,p)$ that a site is active by time $L$ in the process on the infinite lattice. The same results hold for the so-called modified bootstrap percolation model, but with threshold $λ' = π^2/6$. The existence of the thresholds $λ,λ'$ settles a conjecture of Aizenman and Lebowitz, while the determination of their values corrects numerical predictions of Adler, Stauffer and Aharony.
Bootstrap percolation is a wide class of monotone cellular automata with random initial state. In this work we develop tools for studying in full generality one of the three `universality' classes of bootstrap percolation models in two dimensions, termed subcritical. We introduce the new notion of `critical densities' serving the role of `difficulties' for critical models, but adapted to subcritical ones. We characterise the critical probability in terms of these quantities and successfully apply this link to prove new and old results for concrete models such as DTBP and Spiral as well as a ge…
We analyze the metastable states near criticality of the bootstrap percolation on Galton-Watson trees. We find that, depending on the exact choice of the offspring distribution, it is possible to have several distinct metastable states, with varying scaling of their duration while approaching criticality.
Bootstrap percolation on a graph is a deterministic process that iteratively enlarges a set of occupied sites by adjoining points with at least $θ$ occupied neighbors. The initially occupied set is random, given by a uniform product measure with a low density $p$. Our main focus is on this process on the product graph $\mathbb{Z}^2\times K_n^2$, where $K_n$ is a complete graph. We investigate how $p$ scales with $n$ so that a typical site is eventually occupied. Under critical scaling, the dynamics with even $θ$ exhibits a sharp phase transition, while odd $θ$ yields a gradual percolation tran…
A graph $G$ percolates in the $K_{r,s}$-bootstrap process if we can add all missing edges of $G$ in some order such that each edge creates a new copy of $K_{r,s}$, where $K_{r,s}$ is the complete bipartite graph. We study $K_{r,s}$-bootstrap percolation on the Erdős-Rényi random graph, and determine the percolation threshold for balanced $K_{r,s}$ up to a logarithmic factor. This partially answers a question raised by Balogh, Bollobás, and Morris. We also establish a general lower bound of the percolation threshold for all $K_{r,s}$, with $r\geq s \geq 3$.
In this note we provide an alternative proof of the fact that subcritical bootstrap percolation models have a positive critical probability in any dimension. The proof relies on a recent extension of the classical framework of Toom. This approach is not only simpler than the original multi-scale renormalisation proof of the result in two and more dimensions, but also gives significantly better bounds. As a byproduct, we improve the best known bounds for the stability threshold of Toom's North-East-Center majority rule cellular automaton.
Consider a graph $G$ and an initial random configuration, where each node is black with probability $p$ and white otherwise, independently. In discrete-time rounds, each node becomes black if it has at least $r$ black neighbors and white otherwise. We prove that this basic process exhibits a threshold behavior with two phase transitions when the underlying graph is a $d$-dimensional torus and identify the threshold values.
Consider a $p$-random subset $A$ of initially infected vertices in the discrete cube $[L]^3$, and assume that the neighbourhood of each vertex consists of the $a_i$ nearest neighbours in the $\pm e_i$-directions for each $i \in \{1,2,3\}$, where $a_1\le a_2\le a_3$. Suppose we infect any healthy vertex $x\in [L]^3$ already having $a_3+1$ infected neighbours, and that infected sites remain infected forever. In this paper we determine the critical length for percolation up to a constant factor in the exponent, for all triples $(a_1,a_2,a_3)$. To do so, we introduce a new algorithm called the bea…
We consider the Erdös--Rényi random graph $G_{n,p}$ and we analyze the simple irreversible epidemic process on the graph, known in the literature as bootstrap percolation. We give a quantitative version of some results by Janson et al. (2012), providing a fine asymptotic analysis of the final size $A_n^*$ of active nodes, under a suitable super-critical regime. More specifically, we establish large deviation principles for the sequence of random variables $\{\frac{n- A_n^*}{f(n)}\}_{n\geq 1}$ with explicit rate functions and allowing the scaling function $f$ to vary in the widest possible rang…
We study qualitative properties of two-dimensional freezing cellular automata with a binary state set initialized on a random configuration. If the automaton is also monotone, the setting is equivalent to bootstrap percolation. We explore the extent to which monotonicity constrains the possible asymptotic dynamics by proving two results that do not hold in the subclass of monotone automata. First, it is undecidable whether the automaton almost surely fills the space when initialized on a Bernoulli random configuration with density $p$, for some/all $0 < p < 1$. Second, there exists an automato…
We analyze the bootstrap percolation process on the stochastic block model (SBM), a natural extension of the Erdös--Rényi random graph that allows representing the "community structure" observed in many real systems. In the SBM, nodes are partitioned into subsets, which represent different communities, and pairs of nodes are independently connected with a probability that depends on the communities they belong to. Under mild assumptions on system parameters, we prove the existence of a sharp phase transition for the final number of active nodes and characterize sub-critical and super-critical …
Geometric inhomogeneous random graphs (GIRGs) are a model for scale-free networks with underlying geometry. We study bootstrap percolation on these graphs, which is a process modelling the spread of an infection of vertices starting within a (small) local region. We show that the process exhibits a phase transition in terms of the initial infection rate in this region. We determine the speed of the process in the supercritical case, up to lower order terms, and show that its evolution is fundamentally influenced by the underlying geometry. For vertices with given position and expected degree, …
