Isospectral problem of both 2D and 3D Euler equations of inviscid fluids, is investigated. Connections with the Clay problem are described. Spectral theorem of the Lax pair is studied.
In this letter, we report the existence of a novel type of explode-decay dromions, which are exponentially localized coherent structures whose amplitude varies with time, through Hirota method for a nonisospectral Davey-Stewartson equation I discussed recently by Jiang. Using suitable transformations, we also point out such solutions also exist for the isospectral Davey-Stewartson I equation itself for a careful choice of the potentials.
This work presents a classical Lie point symmetry analysis of a two-component, non-isospectral Lax pair of a hierarchy of partial differential equations in $2+1$ dimensions, which can be considered as a modified version of the Camassa-Holm hierarchy in $2+1$ dimensions. A classification of reductions for this spectral problem is performed. Non-isospectral reductions in $1+1$ dimensions are considered of remarkable interest.
We study the convergence rate of the solutions of the incompressible Euler-$α$, an inviscid second-grade complex fluid, equations to the corresponding solutions of the Euler equations, as the regularization parameter $α$ approaches zero. First we show the convergence in $H^{s}$, $s>n/2+1$, in the whole space, and that the smooth Euler-$α$ solutions exist at least as long as the corresponding solution of the Euler equations. Next we estimate the convergence rate for two-dimensional vortex patch with smooth boundaries.
In this paper, we use integration method to show that there is no existence of global $C^{2}$ solution with compact support, to the pressureless Euler-Poisson equations with attractive forces in $R^{N}$. And the similar result can be shown, provided that the uniformly bounded functional:% \int_{Ω(t)}Kγ(γ-1)ρ^{γ-2}(\nablaρ)^{2}% dx+\int_{Ω(t)}Kγρ^{γ-1}Δρdx+ε\geq -δα(N)M, where $M$ is the mass of the solutions and $| Ω| $ is the fixed volume of $Ω(t)$. On the other hand, our differentiation method provides a simpler proof to show the blowup result in "D. H. Chae and E. Tadmor, \textit{On the Fin…
This paper studies the pressureless Euler-Poisson system and its fully non-linear counterpart, the Euler-Monge-Ampère system, where the fully non-linear Monge-Ampère equation substitutes for the linear Poisson equation. While the first is a model of plasma physics, the second is derived as a geometric approximation to the Euler incompressible equations. Using energy estimates, convergence of both systems to the Euler incompressible equations is proved.
In this paper we introduce (I,J) similar method for incompressible two and three dimensional Euler equations and Navier-Stokes equations, obtain a series of explicit (I,J) similar solutions to the incompressible two dimensional Euler equations, they include all of twin wave solutions, some new singularity solutions, and some global smooth solutions with finite energy. We also discover that twin wave solution and affine solution to two dimensional incompressible Euler equations are respectively plane wave and constant vector. Finally, we supply some explicit piecewise smooth solutions to incomp…
We propose in this work new systems of equations which we call $p$-Euler equations and $p$-Navier-Stokes equations. $p$-Euler equations are derived as the Euler-Lagrange equations for the action represented by the Benamou-Brenier characterization of Wasserstein-$p$ distances, with incompressibility constraint. $p$-Euler equations have similar structures with the usual Euler equations but the `momentum' is the signed ($p-1$)-th power of the velocity. In the 2D case, the $p$-Euler equations have streamfunction-vorticity formulation, where the vorticity is given by the $p$-Laplacian of the stream…
We propose a two-dimensional generalization of Constantin-Lax-Majda model [2]. Some results about singular solutions are given. This model might be the first step toward the singular solutions of the Euler equations. Along the same line (vorticity formulation), we present some further model equations. They possibly models various aspects of difficulties related with the singular solutions of the Euler and Navier-Stokes equations. We also make some discussions on the possible connection between turbulence and the singular solutions of the Navier-Stokes equations.
In this paper, from an investigation of a symmetric hyperbolic system, a prior derivation of the logarithm equation of state is provided. Through a diffeomorphism transforming the classical Euler equations to the symmetric hyperbolic system, we show that the logarithm pressure co-exists with existing barotropic equations of state without applying any physical laws. In this connection, we also establish a local existence of classical solutions for the relativistic Euler equations with the logarithm equation of state.
We provide a construction of the two-component Camassa-Holm (CH-2) hierarchy employing a new zero-curvature formalism and identify and describe in detail the isospectral set associated to all real-valued, smooth, and bounded algebro-geometric solutions of the $n$th equation of the stationary CH-2 hierarchy as the real $n$-dimensional torus $\mathbb{T}^n$. We employ Dubrovin-type equations for auxiliary divisors and certain aspects of direct and inverse spectral theory for self-adjoint singular Hamiltonian systems. In particular, we employ Weyl-Titchmarsh theory for singular (canonical) Hamilto…
We propose a novel technique for analyzing the long-time asymptotics of integrable wave equations in the case when the underlying isospectral problem has purely discrete spectrum. To this end, we introduce a natural coupling problem for entire functions, which serves as a replacement for the usual Riemann-Hilbert problem, which does not apply in these cases. As a prototypical example, we investigate the long-time asymptotics of the dispersionless Camassa-Holm equation.
This article is the continued version of the analytical blowup solutions for 2-dimensional Euler-Poisson equations in "M.W. Yuen, Analytical Blowup Solutions to the 2-dimensional Isothermal Euler-Poisson Equations of Gaseous Stars, J. Math. Anal. Appl. 341 (1)(2008), 445-456." and "M.W. Yuen, Analytical Blowup Solutions to the 2-dimensional Isothermal Euler-Poisson Equations of Gaseous Stars II. arXiv:0906.0176v1". With the extension of the blowup solutions with radial symmetry for the isothermal Euler-Poisson equations in R^2, other special blowup solutions in R^N with non-radial symmetry are…
We proposed rigorous definitions of Radon measure solutions for boundary value problems of steady compressible Euler equations which modeling hypersonic-limit inviscid flows passing two-dimensional ramps, and their interactions with still gas and pressureless jets. We proved the Newton-Busemann pressure law of drags of body in hypersonic flow, and constructed various physically interesting measure solutions with density containing Dirac measures supported on curves, also exhibited examples of blow up of certain measure solutions. This established a mathematical foundation for applications in e…
This is a rather comprehensive study on the dynamics of Navier-Stokes and Euler equations via a combination of analysis and numerics. We focus upon two main aspects: (a). zero viscosity limit of the spectra of linear Navier-Stokes operator, (b). heteroclinics conjecture for Euler equation, its numerical verification, Melnikov integral, and simulation and control of chaos. Besides Navier-Stokes and Euler equations, we also study two models of them.
We study the Euler-Poincaré equations that are the regularized Euler equations derived from the Euler-Poincaré framework. It is noteworthy to remark that the Euler-Poincaré equations are a generalization of two well-known regularizations, the vortex blob method and the Euler-$α$ equations. We show the global existence of a unique weak solution for the two-dimensional (2D) Euler-Poincaré equations with the initial vorticity in the space of Radon measure. This is a remarkable feature of these equations since the existence of weak solutions with the Radon measure initial vorticity has not been es…
We consider the limit $α\to0$ for the $α$-Euler equations in a two-dimensional bounded domain with Dirichlet boundary conditions. Assuming that the vorticity is bounded in $L^p$, we prove the existence of a global solution and we show the convergence towards a solution of the incompressible Euler equation with $L^p$ vorticity. The domain can be multiply-connected. We also discuss the case of the second grade fluid when both $α$ and $ν$ go to 0.
We consider the incompressible Euler equations on ${\mathbb R}^d$, where $d \in \{ 2,3 \}$. We prove that: (a) In Lagrangian coordinates the equations are locally well-posed in spaces with fixed real-analyticity radius (more generally, a fixed Gevrey-class radius). (b) In Lagrangian coordinates the equations are well-posed in highly anisotropic spaces, e.g.~Gevrey-class regularity in the label $a_1$ and Sobolev regularity in the labels $a_2,...,a_d$. (c) In Eulerian coordinates both results (a) and (b) above are false.
We give a determination of the equivalence group of Euler-Bernoulli equation and of one of its generalizations, and thus derive some symmetry properties of this equation.
By introducing a new averaged quantity with a fast decay weight to perform Sideris's argument (Commun Math Phys, 1985) developed for the Euler Equations, we extend the formation of singularities of classical solution to the 3D Euler Equations established in Sideris (1985) and Makino et al. (Jpn J Appl Math, 1986) for the initial data with compactly supported disturbances to the spherically symmetric solution with general initial data in Sobolev space. Moreover, we also prove the formation of singularities of the spherically symmetric solutions to the 3D Euler-Poisson Equations, but remove the …
In this paper we prove that solutions of the 2D Euler equations in vorticity formulation obtained via vanishing viscosity approximation are renormalized.
After reformulate the incompressible Euler-$α$ equations in 3D smooth domain with Drichlet data, we obtain the unique classical solutions to Euler-$α$ equations exist in uniform time interval independent of $α$. We also show the solution of the Euler-$α$ converge to the corresponding solution of Euler equation in $L^2$ in space, uniformly in time. In the sequel, it follows that the $H^s$ $(s>\frac{n}{2}+1)$ solutions of Euler-$α$ equations exist in any fixed sub-interval of the maximum existent interval for the Euler equations provided that initial is regular enough and $α$ is small sufficient…
This notes gives several criteria which exclude the existence of discretely self-similar solutions of the three dimensional incompressible Euler equations.
In this paper we study the weighted Gevrey class regularity of Euler equation in the whole space R 3. We first establish the local existence of Euler equation in weighted Sobolev space, then obtain the weighted Gevrey regularity of Euler equation. We will use the weighted Sobolev-Gevrey space method to obtain the results of Gevrey regularity of Euler equation, and the use of the property of singular operator in the estimate of the pressure term is the improvement of our work.
The aim of this manuscript is to study the influence of the vorticity on the existence time in fluid systems for which global smoothness and decay is known in the case of small irrotational data. We focus on two examples: the Euler-Korteweg system and the two-fluid Euler Maxwell system. We prove that the lower bound of the lifespan of these systems is no less than the inverse of the $H^s$ $(s>5/2)$ norm of the rotational part of the initial velocity. Our approach is based on energy estimates and the fast time decay results of global solutions to these systems with small irrotational initial da…
In this paper we study the uniqueness property of solutions to the steady incompressible Euler equations with perturbations in $\Bbb R^N$. Our perturbations include as special cases the Euler equations with a `single signed' nonlinear term, the self-similar Euler equations, and the steady Navier-Stokes equations. For these equations show that suitable decay assumptions at infinity on the solution or its derivatives, imposed by the $L^q$ conditions imply that the only possible solution is zero.
We give sufficient conditions on the regularity of solutions to the inhomogeneous incompressible Euler and the compressible isentropic Euler systems in order for the energy to be conserved. Our strategy relies on commutator estimates similar to those employed by P. Constantin et al. for the homogeneous incompressible Euler equations.
This paper construct a family of explicit self-similar blowup axisymmetric solutions for the 3D incompressible Euler equations in R^3. Those singular solutions admit infinite energy.
The study of spherically symmetric motion is important for the theory of explosion waves. In this paper, we construct rigorously self-similar solutions to the Riemann problem of the spherically symmetric Euler equations for general equations of state. We used the assumption of self-similarity to reduce the spherically symmetric Euler equations to a system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations, from which we obtain detailed structures of solutions besides their existence.
The purpose of this paper is to establish the equivalence between Lagrangian and classical formulations for the stochastic incompressible Euler equations, the proof is based in Ito-Wentzell-Kunita formula and stochastic analysis techniques. Moreover, we prove a local existence result for the Lagrangian formulation in suitable Sobolev Spaces.
We consider various questions about the 2d incompressible Navier-Stokes and Euler equations on a torus when dissipation is removed from or added to some of the Fourier modes.
We prove new \emph{a priori} estimates for the 3D Euler, the 3D Navier-Stokes and the 2D quasi-geostrophic equations by the method of similarity transforms.
We describe a method to construct smooth and compactly supported solutions of 3D incompressible Euler equations and related models. The method is based on localizable Grad-Shafranov equations and is inspired by the recent result \cite{gav}.
In this paper, we develop an abstract framework to establish ill-posedness in the sense of Hadamard for some nonlocal PDEs displaying unbounded unstable spectra. We apply it to prove the ill-posedness for the hydrostatic Euler equations as well as for the kinetic incompressible Euler equations and the Vlasov-Dirac-Benney system.
We construct spherically symmetric solutions to the Einstein-Euler equations, which contains a positive cosmological constant, say, the Einstein-Euler-de Sitter equations. We assume a realistic barotropic equation of state. Equilibria of the spherically symmetric Einstein-Euler-de Sitter equations are given by the Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkoff-de Sitter equation. We can construct solutions near time periodic linearized solutions around the equilibrium. The Cauchy problem around the equilibrium can be solved. This work can be considered as a trial of the generalization of the previous work on the …
In this note, we construct solutions to the 2D Euler equations which belong to the Yudovich class but lose $W^{1,p}$ regularity continuously with time.
This paper deals with the global existence and uniqueness results for the three-dimensional incompressible Euler equations with a particular structure for initial data lying in critical spaces. In this case the BKM criterion is not known.
A class of three-dimensional initial data characterized by uniformly large vorticity is considered for the Euler equations of incompressible fluids. The fast singular oscillating limits of the Euler equations are studied for parametrically resonant cylinders. Resonances of fast swirling Beltrami waves deplete the Euler nonlinearity. The resonant Euler equations are systems of three-dimensional rigid body equations, coupled or not. Some cases of these resonant systems have homoclinic cycles, and orbits in the vicinity of these homoclinic cycles lead to bursts of the Euler solution measured in S…
In this paper, we show the existence of a family of compactly supported smooth vorticities, which are solutions of the 2D incompressible Euler equation and rotate uniformly in time and space.
We show that two distinct level sets of the vorticity of a solution to the 2D Euler equations on a disc can approach each other along a curve at an arbitrarily large exponential rate.
In this article, we show how to embed the so-called CH2 equations into the geodesic flow of the Hdiv metric in 2D, which, itself, can be embedded in the incompressible Euler equation of a non compact Riemannian manifold. The method consists in embedding the incompressible Euler equation with a potential term coming from classical mechanics into incompressible Euler of a manifold and seeing the CH2 equation as a particular case of such fluid dynamic equation.
It is well-known that the circulation of the velocity field of a fluid along a closed material curve is conserved for any solution of the Euler equation. We offer a slightly more explicit proof of that fact than that generally found in the literature. We then rewrite that property in terms of the rescaled variables and functions leading to the Euler-Leray equations and appropriate for studying self-similar solutions. We finally discuss the implications of the conservation of circulation on the existence of such solutions.
We establish the existence and uniqueness of an ergodic invariant measure for 2D fractionally dissipated stochastic Euler equations on the periodic box, for any power of the dissipation term.
We establish energy-balance for weak solutions of the stochastically forced incompressible Euler equations, enjoying Hölder regularity $C^α$, $α>1/3$. It is well known as the Onsager's conjecture for the deterministic incompressible Euler equations, which describes the energy conservation of weak solutions having Hölder regularity $C^α$, $α>1/3$. Additionally, we obtain energy-balance for the inhomogeneous incompressible Euler system driven by a cylindrical Wiener process.
After casting Euler-$α$ equations into vorticity-stream function formula, we obtain some very useful estimates from the properties of the vorticity formula in exterior domain. Basing on these estimates, one can have got the global existence and uniqueness of the solutions to Euler-$α$ equations in 2D exterior domain provided that the initial data is regular enough.
