Let the reductive group G act on the finitely generated commutative k-algebra A. We ask if the finite generation property of the ring of invariants A^G extends to the full rational cohomology ring H^*(G,A). We confirm this when G=SL_2 and also when the characteristic of k is large and the action on A is replaced by the `contracted' action on the Grosshans graded ring gr(A).
In the printed version of this paper the first level of some spectral sequences was misidentified as the second. This affects twelve subscripts. We have corrected them (in 3.10, 4.11, 4.12).
We give new applications of graded Lie algebras to: identities of standard polynomials, deformation theory of quadratic Lie algebras, cyclic cohomology of quadratic Lie algebras, $2k$-Lie algebras, generalized Poisson brackets and so on.
In this paper we introduce generalized Spencer cohomology for finite depth Z-graded Lie (super)algebras. We develop a method of finding filtered deformations of such Z-graded Lie (super)algebras based on this cohomology. As an application we determine all simple filtered deformations of certain Z-graded Lie superalgebras classified in [K3], thus completing the last step in the classification of simple infinite-dimensional linearly compact Lie superalgebras.
We define analogues of the Casimir and Dirac operators for graded affine Hecke algebras, and establish a version of Parthasarathy's Dirac operator inequality. We then prove a version of Vogan's Conjecture for Dirac cohomology. The formulation of the conjecture depends on a uniform geometric parametrization of spin representations of Weyl groups. Finally, we apply our results to the study of unitary representations.
In this paper, we review the construction of the Dirac operator for graded affine Hecke algebras and calculate the Dirac cohomology of irreducible unitary modules for the graded Hecke algebra of gl(n).
We compute the cohomology with trivial coefficients of two graded infinite-dimensional Lie algebras of maximal class, give explicit formulas for their representative cocycles. Also we discuss the relations with combinatorics and representation theory.
We generalize the notion of Külshammer ideals to the setting of a graded category. This allows us to define and study some properties of Külshammer type ideals in the graded center of a triangulated category and in the Hochschild cohomology of an algebra, providing new derived invariants. Further properties of Külshammer ideals are studied in the case where the category is $d$-Calabi-Yau.
Let i be a homomorphism of the multiplicative group into a connected reductive algebraic group over C. Let G^i be the centralizer of the image i. Let LG be the Lie algebra of G and let L_nG (n integer) be the summands in the direct sum decomposition of LG determined by i. Assume that n is not zero. For any G^i-orbit O in L_nG and any irreducible G^i-equivariant local system L on O we consider the restriction of some cohomology sheaf of the intersection cohomology complex of the closure of O with coefficients in L to another orbit O' contained in the closure of O. For any irreducible G^i-equiva…
We prove that, if $A$ is a positively graded, graded commutative, local, finite Hopf algebra, its cohomology is finitely generated, thus unifying classical results of Wilkerson and Hopkins-Smith, and of Friedlander-Suslin. We do this by showing the existence of conormal elementary quotients.
In this paper we define a new presentation for the Dunkl-Opdam subalgebra of the rational Cherednik algebra. This shows that the Dunkl-Opdam subalgebra is a Drinfeld algebra. We use this fact to define Dirac cohomology for the DO subalgebra. We also formalise generalised graded Hecke algebras and define a Langlands classification to generalised graded Hecke algebras.
We compute explicitly the adjoint cohomology of two N-graded Lie algebras of maximal class (infinite dimensional filiform Lie algebras) m_0 and m_2. It is known that up to an isomorphism there are only three N-graded Lie algebras of the maximal class. The third algebra from this list is the "positive" part L_1 of the Witt (or Virasoro) algebra and its adjoint cohomology was computed earlier by Feigin and Fukhs. We show that the total space H*(m_j,m_j) is "almost" isomorphic to the completed tensor product of the algebra m_j by scalar cohomology space H^*(m_j), j=0,2.
Hochschild cohomology governs deformations of algebras, and its graded Lie structure plays a vital role. We study this structure for the Hochschild cohomology of the skew group algebra formed by a finite group acting on an algebra by automorphisms. We examine the Gerstenhaber bracket with a view toward deformations and developing bracket formulas. We then focus on the linear group actions and polynomial algebras that arise in orbifold theory and representation theory; deformations in this context include graded Hecke algebras and symplectic reflection algebras. We give some general results des…
We develop and collect techniques for determining Hochschild cohomology of skew group algebras S(V)#G and apply our results to graded Hecke algebras. We discuss the explicit computation of certain types of invariants under centralizer subgroups, focusing on the infinite family of complex reflection groups G(r,p,n) to illustrate our ideas. Resulting formulas for Hochschild two-cocycles give information about deformations of S(V)#G and, in particular, about graded Hecke algebras. We expand the definition of a graded Hecke algebra to allow a nonfaithful action of G on V, and we show that there ex…
In this paper, we will consider derived equivalences for differential graded endomorphism algebras by Keller's approaches. First we construct derived equivalences of differential graded algebras which are endomorphism algebras of the objects from a triangle in the homotopy category of differential graded algebras. We also obtain derived equivalences of differential graded endomorphism algebras from a standard derived equivalence of finite dimensional algebras. Moreover, under some conditions, the cohomology rings of these differential graded endomorphism algebras are also derived equivalent. T…
We develop a local cohomology theory for FI$^m$-modules, and show that it in many ways mimics the classical theory for multi-graded modules over a polynomial ring. In particular, we define an invariant of FI$^m$-modules using this local cohomology theory which closely resembles an invariant of multi-graded modules over Cox rings defined by Maclagan and Smith. It is then shown that this invariant behaves almost identically to the invariant of Maclagan and Smith.
We describe a general setting for the definition of semi-infinite cohomology of finite dimensional algebras, and provide its categorical interpretation. We apply this interpretation to compute semi-infinite cohomology of some modules over the small group at a root of unity, generalizing an earlier result of S. Arkhipov (conjectured by B. Feigin).
The Hochschild cohomology of a differential graded algebra, or a differential graded category, admits a natural map to the graded center of its homology category: the characteristic homomorphism. We interpret it as an edge homomorphism in a spectral sequence. This gives a conceptual explanation of the failure of the characteristic homomorphism to be injective or surjective, in general. To illustrate this, we discuss modules over the dual numbers, coherent sheaves over algebraic curves, as well as examples related to free loop spaces and string topology.
Let $A=A(α, β)$ be a graded down-up algebra with $({\rm deg}\,x, {\rm deg}\,y)=(1,n)$ and $β\neq 0$, and let $\nabla A$ be the Beilinson algebra of $A$. If $n=1$, then a description of the Hochschild cohomology group of $\nabla A$ is known. In this paper, we calculate the Hochschild cohomology group of $\nabla A$ for the case $n \geq 2$. As an application, we see that the structure of the bounded derived category of the noncommutative projective scheme of $A$ is different depending on whether $\left(\begin{smallmatrix} 1&0 \end{smallmatrix}\right)\left(\begin{smallmatrix} α&1 \\ β&0 \end{small…
Let $A$ be a differential graded algebra with cohomology ring $H^*A$. A graded module over $H^*A$ is called \emph{realisable} if it is (up to direct summands) of the form $H^*M$ for some differential graded $A$-module $M$. Benson, Krause and Schwede have stated a local and a global obstruction for realisability. The global obstruction is given by the Hochschild class determined by the secondary multiplication of the $A_{\infty}$-algebra structure of $H^*A$. In this thesis we mainly consider differential graded algebras $A$ with graded-commutative cohomology ring. We show that a finitely presen…
The smooth hermitian representations of a split reductive p-adic group whose restriction to a maximal hyperspecial compact subgroup contain a single K-type with Iwahori fixed vectors have been studied in [D. Barbasch, A. Moy, Classification of one K-type representations, Trans. Amer. Math. Soc. 351 (1999), no. 10, 4245-4261] in the more general setting of modules for graded affine Hecke algebras with parameters. We show that every such one K-type module has nonzero Dirac cohomology (in the sense of [D. Barbasch, D. Ciubotaru, P. Trapa, The Dirac operator for graded affine Hecke algebras, arXiv…
We compute the Hochschild cohomology of any block of $q$-Schur algebras. We focus the even part of this Hochschild cohomology ring. To compute the Hochschild cohomology of $q$-Schur algebras, we prove the following two results: first, we construct two graded algebra surjections between the Hochschild cohomologies of quasi-hereditary algebras because all $q$-Schur algebras over a field are quasi-hereditary. Second, we give the graded algebra isomorphism of Hochschild cohomologies by using a certain derived equivalence.
We introduce a family $\mathbb{M}_{r;f,η}$ of infinitesimal supergroup schemes, which we call multiparameter supergroups, that generalize the infinitesimal Frobenius kernels $\mathbb{G}_{a(r)}$ of the additive group scheme $\mathbb{G}_{a}$. Then, following the approach of Suslin, Friedlander, and Bendel, we use functor cohomology to define characteristic extension classes for the general linear supergroup $GL_{m|n}$, and we calculate how these classes restrict along homomorphisms $ρ: \mathbb{M}_{r;f,η} \rightarrow GL_{m|n}.$ Finally, we apply our calculations to describe (up to a finite surjec…
In this paper we classify real trivectors in dimension 9. The corresponding classification over the field C of complex numbers was done by Vinberg and Elashvili in 1978. One of the main tools used for their classification was the construction of the representation of SL(9,C) on the space of complex trivectors of C^9 as a theta-representation corresponding to a Z/3Z-grading of the simple complex Lie algebra of type E8. This divides the trivectors into three groups: nilpotent, semisimple, and mixed trivectors. Our classification follows the same pattern. We use Galois cohomology to obtain the cl…
We identify the ring of odd symmetric functions introduced by Ellis and Khovanov as the space of skew polynomials fixed by a natural action of the Hecke algebra at q=-1. This allows us to define graded modules over the Hecke algebra at q=-1 that are `odd' analogs of the cohomology of type A Springer varieties. The graded module associated to the full flag variety corresponds to the quotient of the skew polynomial ring by the left ideal of nonconstant odd symmetric functions. The top degree component of the odd cohomology of Springer varieties is identified with the corresponding Specht module …
Framed quiver moduli parametrize stable pairs consisting of a quiver representation and a map to a fixed graded vector space. Geometric properties and explicit realizations of framed quiver moduli for quivers without oriented cycles are derived, with emphasis on their cohomology. Their use for quantum group constructions is discussed.
