The goal of this work is give a precise numerical description of the Kähler cone of a compact Kähler manifold. Our main result states that the Kähler cone depends only on the intersection form of the cohomology ring, the Hodge structure and the homology classes of analytic cycles: if $X$ is a compact Kähler manifold, the Kähler cone $\cK$ of $X$ is one of the connected components of the set $\cP$ of real $(1,1)$ cohomology classes $\{α\}$ which are numerically positive on analytic cycles, i.e. $\int_Yα^p>0$ for every irreducible analytic set $Y$ in $X$, \hbox{$p=\dim Y$}. This result is new even in the case of projective manifolds, where it can be seen as a generalization of the well-known Nakai-Moishezon criterion, and it also extends previous results by Campana-Peternell and Eyssidieux. The principal technical step is to show that every nef class $\{α\}$ which has positive highest self-intersection number $\int_Xα^n>0$ contains a Kähler current; this is done by using the Calabi-Yau theorem and a mass concentration technique for Monge-Ampère equations. The main result admits a number of variants and corollaries, including a description of the cone of numerically effective $(1,1)$ classes and their dual cone. Another important consequence is the fact that for an arbitrary deformation $\cX\to S$ of compact Kähler manifolds, the Kähler cone of a very general fibre $X_t$ is ``independent'' of $t$, i.e.\ invariant by parallel transport under the $(1,1)$-component of the Gauss-Manin connection.
Let $X$ be a compact K{ä}hler manifold of dimension three. We prove that there exists a projective manifold $Y$ such that $π\_1(X)\simeq π\_1(Y)$. We also prove the bimeromorphic existence of algebraic approximations for compact K{ä}hler manifolds of algebraic dimension $\dim(X)-1$. Together with the work of Graf and the third author, this settles in particular the bimeromorphic Kodaira problem for compact K{ä}hler threefolds.
Using the theory of totally real number fields we construct a new class of compact complex non-K{ä}hler manifolds in every even complex dimension and study their analytic and geometric properties.
Toric hyperk{ä}hler manifolds are quaternion analog of toric varieties. Bielawski pointed out that they can be glued by cotangent bundles of toric varieties. Following his idea, viewing both toric varieties and toric hyperk{ä}her manifolds as GIT quotients, we first establish geometrical criteria for the semi-stable points. Then based on these criteria, we show that the cotangent bundles of compact toric varieties in the core of toric hyperk{ä}hler manifold are sufficient to glue the desired toric hyperk{ä}hler manifold.
We study symplectic structures on Kähler surfaces with p_g = 0. We give an example of a projective surface which admits a symplectic structure which is not compatible with any Kähler metric.
We show that any fibration of a 'special' compact K{ä}hler manifold X onto an Abelian variety has no multiple fibre in codimension one. This statement strengthens and extends previous results of Kawamata and Viehweg when $κ$(X) = 0. This also corrects the proof given in [2], 5.3 which was incomplete.
The main purpose of this paper is to generalize the celebrated L${}^2$ extension theorem of Ohsawa-Takegoshi in several directions : the holomorphic sections to extend are taken in a possibly singular hermitian line bundle, the subvariety from which the extension is performed may be non reduced, the ambient manifold is K{ä}hler and holomorphically convex, but not necessarily compact.
We study mirror symmetry of complete intersection Calabi-Yau manifolds which have birational automorphisms of infinite order. We observe that movable cones in birational geometry are transformed, under mirror symmetry, to the monodromy nilpotent cones which are naturally glued together.
The Morrison--Kawamata Cone Conjecture predicts that the action of the automorphism group on the effective nef cone and the action of the pseudo-automorphism group on the effective movable cone of a klt Calabi-Yau pair have rational, polyhedral fundamental domains. In a previous paper, we proved the conjecture for certain blowups of Fano manifolds of index n-1. In this paper, we consider the Morrison--Kawamata conjecture for blowups of Fano manifolds of index n-2.
We show that the orbifold fundamental group of an effective compact K{ä}hler orbifold with nef anticanonical bundle has polynomial growth, which generalizes M.P ăun's results for manifolds [P ău97, Theorem 1,Theorem 2]
We find classes of projective manifolds that are elliptic in the sense of Gromov and such that the affine cones over these manifolds also are elliptic off their vertices. For example, the latter holds for any generalized flag manifold of dimension at least 3 successively blown up in a finite set of points and infinitesimally near points. This also holds for any smooth projective rational surface. For the affine cones, the Gromov ellipticity is a much weaker property than the flexibility. Nonetheless, it still implies the infinite transitivity of the action of the endomorphism monoid on these c…
Following a recent work of Oguiso, we calculate explicitly the groups of automorphisms and birational automorphisms on a Calabi-Yau manifold with Picard number two. When the group of birational automorphisms is infinite, we prove that the Cone conjecture of Morrison and Kawamata holds.
The Morrison-Kawamata cone conjecture predicts that the actions of the automorphism group on the effective nef cone and the pseudo-automorphism group on the effective movable cone of a klt Calabi-Yau pair $(X, Δ)$ have finite, rational polyhedral fundamental domains. Let $Z$ be an $n$-dimensional Fano manifold of index $n-1$ such that $-K_Z = (n-1) H$ for an ample divisor $H$. Let $Γ$ be the base locus of a general $(n-1)$-dimensional linear system $V \subset |H|$. In this paper, we verify the Morrison-Kawamata cone conjecture for the blow-up of $Z$ along $Γ$.

We prove that a holomorphic line bundle on a projective manifold is pseudo-effective if and only if its degree on any member of a covering family of curves is non-negative. This is a consequence of a duality statement between the cone of pseudo-effective divisors and the cone of ``movable curves'', which is obtained from a general theory of movable intersections and approximate Zariski decomposition for closed positive (1,1)-currents. As a corollary, a projective manifold has a pseudo-effective canonical bundle if and only if it is is not uniruled. We also prove that a 4-fold with a canonical …
This is an attempt towards the understanding of the (birational) Kaehler cone of a compact hyperkaehler manifold in terms of the Beauville-Bogomolov form on its second cohomology. We discuss birational correspondences between hyperkaehler manifolds and their effects on the cohomology. Many of the results are conjectural in as much as they depend on a projectivity criterion for compact hyperkaehler manifolds contained in this paper's predecessor, but in which a serious mistake has oocured. An erratum is given in Sect. 6 and a way to rescue the approach is proposed in Sect. 7.
The aim of this survey paper is threefold: (a) to discuss the status of the Morrison-Kawamata cone conjecture, (b) to report on recent developments towards the Abundance Conjecture, and (c) to discuss the nef line bundle version of the Abundance Conjecture on $K$-trivial varieties.
In the present paper we prove that, on a hyperkähler manifold, walls of the kähler cone and extremal rays of the Mori cone are determined by all divisors satisfying certain numerical conditions.
We show that for any Ricci-flat manifold with Euclidean volume growth the tangent cone at infinity is unique if one tangent cone has a smooth cross-section. Similarly, for any noncollapsing limit of Einstein manifolds with uniformly bounded Einstein constants, we show that local tangent cones are unique if one tangent cone has a smooth cross-section.
We study the null-cone of a semi-simple algebraic group acting on a number of copies of its Lie algebra via the diagonal adjoint action. We show that the null cone has rational singularities in the case of SL3. We observe by example that the null-cone is not normal in general and that the normalization of the null-cone does not have rational singularities in general. This is achieved by computing cohomology of certain vector bundles on flag varieties.
Assume that a projective variety is uniformly valuatively stable with respect to a polarization. We show that the projective variety is uniformly valuatively stable with respect to any polarization sufficiently close to the original polarization. The definition of uniformly valuatively stability in this paper is stronger than that given by Dervan and Legendre in \cite{D-L20}. We also define the valuative stability for the transcendental Kähler classes. Our openness result can be extended to the Kähler cone of projective manifolds.
Let M be a closed oriented smooth 4-manifold admitting symplectic structures. If M is minimal and has b^+=1, we prove that there is a unique symplectic canonical class up to sign, and any real second cohomology class of positive square is represented by symplectic forms. Similar results hold when M is not minimal.
We introduce a special class of convex rational polyhedral cones which allows to construct generalized Calabi-Yau varieties of dimension $(d + 2(r-1))$, where $r$ is a positive integer and d is the dimension of critical string vacua with central chatge $c = 3d$. It is conjectured that the natural combinatorial duality satisfies by these cones corresponds to the mirror involution. Using the theory of toric varieties, we show that our conjecture includes as special cases all already known examples of mirror pairs proposed by physicists and agrees with previous conjectures of the authors concerni…
We introduce certain homology and cohomology subgroups for any almost complex structure and study their pureness, fullness and duality properties. Motivated by a question of Donaldson, we use these groups to relate J-tamed symplectic cones and J-compatible symplectic cones over a large class of almost complex manifolds, including all Kahler manifolds, almost Kahler 4-manifolds and complex surfaces.
Thanks to the theory of Coxeter groups, we produce the first family of Calabi-Yau manifolds $X$ of arbitrary dimension $n$, for which $\Bir(X)$ is infinite and the Kawamata-Morrison movable cone conjecture is satisfied. For this family, the movable cone is explicitly described; it's fractal nature is related to limit sets of Kleinian groups and to the Apollonian Gasket. Then, we produce explicit examples of (biregular) automorphisms with positive entropy on some Calabi-Yau manifolds.
Given a hyperplane arrangement of some type in a projective space, the Dunkl system, developed by Couwenberg, Heckman and Looijenga, is used to study the geometric structures on its complement, and as a consequence it leads to the discovery of new ball quotients when the Schwarz conditions are imposed. In this paper, we study how the space, investigated in this system, looks like when there is no Schwarz conditions imposed. As a result, we show that the space in question is still of a particular type of structure, namely, the structure of a cone-manifold. With this point of view, Thurston's wo…
We prove a conjecture of Boucksom-Demailly-Păun-Peternell, namely that on a projective manifold $X$ the cone of pseudoeffective classes in $H^{1,1}_{\mathbb{R}}(X)$ is dual to the cone of movable classes in $H^{n-1,n-1}_{\mathbb{R}}(X)$ via the Poincaré pairing. This is done by establishing a conjectured transcendental Morse inequality for the volume of the difference of two nef classes on a projective manifold. As a corollary the movable cone is seen to be equal to the closure of the cone of balanced metrics. In an appendix by Boucksom it is shown that the Morse inequality also implies that t…
In this paper, we study the curve cone of an almost complex $4$-manifold which is tamed by a symplectic form. In particular, we prove the cone theorem as in Mori theory for all such manifolds using the Seiberg-Witten theory. For small rational surfaces and minimal ruled surfaces, we study the configuration of negative curves. We define abstract configuration of negative curves, which records the homological and intersection information of curves. Combinatorial blowdown is the main tool to study these configurations. As an application of our investigation of the curve cone, we prove the Nakai-M…
Let $M$ be a simple holomorphically symplectic manifold, that is, a simply connected holomorphically symplectic manifold of Kahler type with $h^{2,0}=1$. We prove that the group of holomorphic automorphisms of $M$ acts on the set of faces of its Kahler cone with finitely many orbits, whenever $b_2(M)\neq 5$. This is a version of the Morrison-Kawamata cone conjecture for hyperkahler manifolds. The proof is based on the following observation, proven with ergodic theory. Let $M$ be a complete Riemannian orbifold of dimension at least three, constant negative curvature and finite volume, and $\{S_…
This is the third and final paper in a series which establish results announced in arXiv:1210.7494. In this paper we consider the Gromov-Hausdorff limits of metrics with cone singularities in the case when the limiting cone angle approaches 2π. We also put all our technical results together to complete the proof of the main theorem that if a K-stable Fano manifold admits a Kahler-Einstein metric.
The equality between the balanced and the Gauduchon cones is discussed in several situations. In particular, it is shown that equality does not hold on many twistor spaces, and it holds on Moishezon manifolds. Moreover, it is proved that a SKT manifold of dimension three on which the balanced cone equals the Gauduchon cone is in fact Kahler.
This is the second of a series of three papers which provide proofs of results announced in arXiv:1210.7494. In this paper we consider the Gromov-Hausdorff limits of metrics with cone singularities in the case when the limiting cone angle is less than 2π. We show that these are in a natrual way projective algebraic varieties. In the case when the limiting variety and the limiting divisor are smooth we show that the limiting metric also has standard cone singularities.
This paper is intended as the first step of a programme aiming to prove in the long run the long-conjectured closedness under holomorphic deformations of compact complex manifolds that are bimeromorphically equivalent to compact Kähler manifolds, known as Fujiki {\it class} ${\cal C}$ manifolds. Our main idea is to explore the link between the {\it class} ${\cal C}$ property and the closed positive currents of bidegree $(1,\,1)$ that the manifold supports, a fact leading to the study of semi-continuity properties under deformations of the complex structure of the dual cones of cohomology class…
The Kähler cone of a compact manifold carries a natural Riemannian metric, given by the intersection product of its cohomology ring. We write down the curvature tensor of this metric by embedding the Kähler cone in the space of hermitian metrics on the underlying manifold. After discussing weak functorality and completeness properties, we give a relative version of both the Kähler cone and the metric.
