We extend an uncertainty principle due to Beurling into a characterization of Hermite functions. More precisely, all functions $f$ on $\R^d$ which may be written as $P(x)\exp (Ax,x)$, with $A$ a real symmetric definite positive matrix, are characterized by integrability conditions on the product $f(x)\hat{f}(y)$. We also give the best constant in uncertainty principles of Gelf'and Shilov type. We then obtain similar results for the windowed Fourier transform (also known, up to elementary changes of functions, as the radar ambiguity function or the Wigner transform). We complete the paper with a sharp version of Heisenberg's inequality for this transform.
In this paper we generalize the continuous quaternion windowed Fourier transform called the multivariate two sided continuous quaternion windowed Fourier transform. Using the two sided quaternion Fourier transform we derive several important properties.
We study the Fourier transform windowed by a bump function. We transfer Jackson's classical results on the convergence of the Fourier series of a periodic function to windowed series of a not necessarily periodic function. Numerical experiments illustrate the obtained theoretical results.
Liu and Liu in 2007 introduced the Fourier - Hermite transform $\sum a_{n}λ_{n}^{R}ψ_{n}(t)$ which is a random Fourier - Hermite series with random variables $λ_{n}^{R}$ choosen randomly from the unit circle of $\mathbb{C}$, where $ψ_{n}(t)$ are Hermite functions and $a_{n}$ are Fourier - Hermite coefficients of an $L^{2}(\mathbb{R})$ function. They used it in image encryption and decryption and expected its application in general signal and image processing. This motivated us to investigate more on random Fourier - Hermite transform by replacing the random variables $λ_{n}^{R}$ by some other …
In this paper extensions of the classical Fourier, fractional Fourier and Radon transforms to superspace are studied. Previously, a Fourier transform in superspace was already studied, but with a different kernel. In this work, the fermionic part of the Fourier kernel has a natural symplectic structure, derived using a Clifford analysis approach. Several basic properties of these three transforms are studied. Using suitable generalizations of the Hermite polynomials to superspace (see [H. De Bie, F. Sommen, Hermite and Gegenbauer polynomials in superspace using Clifford analysis, J. Phys. A 40…
There exist many ways to build an orthonormal basis of $\mathbb{R}^N$, consisting of the eigenvectors of the discrete Fourier transform (DFT). In this paper we show that there is only one such orthonormal eigenbasis of the DFT that is optimal in the sense of an appropriate uncertainty principle. Moreover, we show that these optimal eigenvectors of the DFT are direct analogues of the Hermite functions, that they also satisfy a three-term recurrence relation and that they converge to Hermite functions as $N$ increases to infinity.
We prove that the complex Hermite polynomials H_{m,n} on the complex plane $\mathbb{C}$ can be realized as the Fourier-Wigner transform $\mathcal{V}$ of the well-known real Hermite functions $h_n$ on real line $\mathbb{R}$. This reduces considerably the Wong's proof giving the explicit expression of $\mathcal{V}(h_m,h_n)$ in terms of the Laguerre polynomials. Moreover, we derive a new generating function for the H_{m,n} as well as some new integral identities.
The search for a canonical set of eigenvectors of the discrete Fourier transform has been ongoing for more than three decades. The goal is to find an orthogonal basis of eigenvectors which would approximate Hermite functions -- the eigenfunctions of the continuous Fourier transform. This eigenbasis should also have some degree of analytical tractability and should allow for efficient numerical computations. In this paper we provide a partial solution to these problems. First, we construct an explicit basis of (non-orthogonal) eigenvectors of the discrete Fourier transform, thus extending the r…
Restriction theorem for the Fourier-Hermite transform associated with the normalized Hermite polynomials and the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck-Schrödinger equation
In this paper, we define a new transform called the Gabor quaternionic Fourier transform (GQFT), which generalizes the classical windowed Fourier transform to quaternion valued-signals, we give several important properties such as the Plancherel formula and inversion formula. Finally, we establish the Heisenberg uncertainty principles for the GQFT.
This paper is a continuation of the paper [arXiv:0911.4725], investigating a natural radial deformation of the Fourier transform in the setting of Clifford analysis. At the same time, it gives extensions of many results obtained in [arXiv:0907.3749]. We establish the analogues of Bochner's formula and the Heisenberg uncertainty relation in the framework of the (holomorphic) Hermite semigroup, and also give a detailed analytic treatment of the series expansion of the associated integral transform.
We study in detail two families of $q$-Fibonacci polynomials and $q$-Lucas polynomials, which are defined by non-conventional three-term recurrences. They were recently introduced by Cigler and have been then employed by Cigler and Zeng to construct novel $q$-extensions of classical Hermite polynomials. We show that both of these $q$-polynomial families exhibit simple transformation properties with respect to the classical Fourier integral transform.
Considering functions $ f $ on $ \R^n $ for which both $ f $ and $ \hat{f} $ are bounded by the Gaussian $ e^{-{1/2}a|x|^2}, 0 < a < 1 $ we show that their Fourier-Hermite coefficients have exponential decay. Optimal decay is obtained for $ O(n)-$finite functions thus extending the one dimensional result of Vemuri.
The Fourier transforms of Laguerre functions play the same canonical role in wavelet analysis as do the Hermite functions in Gabor analysis. We will use them as analyzing wavelets in a similar way the Hermite functions were recently by K. Groechenig and Y. Lyubarskii in "Gabor frames with Hermite functions, C. R. Acad. Sci. Paris, Ser. I 344 157-162 (2007)". Building on the work of K. Seip, "Beurling type density theorems in the unit disc, Invent. Math., 113, 21-39 (1993)", concerning sampling sequences on weighted Bergman spaces, we find a sufficient density condition for constructing frames …
Wiener used the Poisson kernel for the Hermite polynomials to deal with the classical Fourier transform. Askey, Atakishiyev and Suslov used this approach to obtain a q-Fourier transform by using the continuous q-Hermite polynomials. Rahman and Suslov extended this result by taking the Askey--Wilson polynomials, considered to be the most general continuous classical orthogonal polynomials. The theory of q-Fourier transformation is further extended here by considering a nonsymmetric version of the Poisson kernel with Askey--Wilson polynomials. This approach enables us to obtain some new results,…
We study integrability and continuity properties of random series of Hermite functions. We get optimal results which are analogues to classical results concerning Fourier series, like the Paley-Zygmund or the Salem-Zygmund theorems. We also consider the case of series of radial Hermite functions, which are not so well-behaved. In this context, we prove some L^p bounds of radial Hermite functions, which are optimal when p is large.

In this paper, we investigate the uniqueness of the phase retrieval problem for the fractional Fourier transform (FrFT) of variable order. This problem occurs naturally in optics and quantum physics. More precisely, we show that if $u$ and $v$ are such that fractional Fourier transforms of order $α$ have same modulus $|F_αu|=|F_αv|$ for some set $τ$ of $α$'s, then $v$ is equal to $u$ up to a constant phase factor. The set $τ$ depends on some extra assumptions either on $u$ or on both $u$ and $v$. Cases considered here are $u$, $v$ of compact support, pulse trains, Hermite functions or linear c…
In this paper we study linear and non-linear Fourier-Padé approximation for Angelesco systems of functions. This construction is similar to that of Hermite-Padé approximation. Instead of considering power series expansions of the functions in the system, we take their expansion in a series of orthogonal polynomials.
We develop a wavelet like representation of functions in $L^p(\mathbb{R})$ based on their Fourier--Hermite coefficients; i.e., we describe an expansion of such functions where the local behavior of the terms characterize completely the local smoothness of the target function. In the case of continuous functions, a similar expansion is given based on the values of the functions at arbitrary points on the real line. In the process, we give new proofs for the localization of certain kernels, as well as some very classical estimates such as the Markov--Bernstein inequality.
It is shown that the continuous q-Hermite polynomials for q a root of unity have simple transformation properties with respect to the classical Fourier transform. This result is then used to construct q-extended eigenvectors of the finite Fourier transform in terms of these polynomials.
We study a recent result of Bourgain, Clozel and Kahane, a version of which states that a sufficiently nice function $f:\mathbb{R} \rightarrow \mathbb{R}$ that coincides with its Fourier transform and vanishes at the origin has a root in the interval $(c, \infty)$, where the optimal $c$ satisfies $0.41 \leq c \leq 0.64$. A similar result holds in higher dimensions. We improve the one-dimensional result to $0.45 \leq c \leq 0.594$, and the lower bound in higher dimensions. We also prove that extremizers exist, and have infinitely many double roots. With this purpose in mind, we establish a new …
This paper considers the problem of restricting the short-time Fourier transform to domains of nonzero measure in the plane and studies sampling bounds of such systems. In particular, we give a quantitative estimate for the lower sampling bound in the case of Hermite windows and derive a sufficient condition for a large class of windows in terms of a certain planar density. On the way, we prove a Remez-type inequality for polyanalytic functions. MSC2010: 42C40, 46E15, 46E20, 42C15
Some recent works have shown that the heat equation posed on the whole Euclidean space is null-controllable in any positive time if and only if the control subset is a thick set. This necessary and sufficient condition for null-controllability is linked to some uncertainty principles as the Logvinenko-Sereda theorem which give limitations on the simultaneous concentration of a function and its Fourier transform. In the present work, we prove new uncertainty principles for finite combinations of Hermite functions and establish an analogue of the Logvinenko-Sereda theorem with an explicit contro…
Let $f_k$ be the $k$-th Fourier coefficient of a function $f$ in terms of the orthonormal Hermite, Laguerre or Jacobi polynomials. We give necessary and sufficient conditions on $f$ for the inequality $\sum_{k}|f_k|^2θ^k<\infty$ to hold with $θ>1$. As a by-product new orthogonality relations for the Hermite and Laguerre polynomials are found. The basic machinery for the proofs is provided by the theory of reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces.
We work out a theory of integrability on the braided covector Hopf algebra and braided vector Hopf algebra of type A_n as introduced by Kempf and Majid. Starting by their definition of braided Fourier transform we prove n-dimensional analogues to results by Koornwinder expressing the correspondence between products of q^2-Gaussians times monomials and products of q^2-Gaussians times q^2-Hermite polynomials under the transform. We invert the correspondence finding a suitable inverse to the transform, different from that by Kempf and Majid (our integral is not bosonic) and we show that in this c…
We prove an exact analogue of Ingham's uncertainty principle for the group Fourier transform on the Heisenberg group. This is accomplished by explicitly constructing compactly supported functions on the Heisenberg group whose operator-valued Fourier transforms have suitable Ingham type decay and proving an analogue of Chernoff's theorem for the family of special Hermite operators.
By applying an integral representation for $q^{k^{2}}$ we systematically derive a large number of new Fourier and Mellin transform pairs and establish new integral representations for a variety of $q$-functions and polynomials that naturally arise from combinatorics, analysis, and orthogonal polynomials corresponding to indeterminate moment problems. These functions include $q$-Bessel functions, the Ramanujan function, Stieltjes--Wigert polynomials, $q$-Hermite and $q^{-1}$-Hermite polynomials, and the $q$-exponential functions $e_{q}$, $E_{q}$ and $\mathcal{E}_{q}$. Their representations are …
We here revisit Fourier analysis on the Heisenberg group H^d. Whereas, according to the standard definition, the Fourier transform of an integrable function f on H^d is a one parameter family of bounded operators on L 2 (R^d), we define (by taking advantage of basic properties of Hermite functions) the Fourier transform f\_H of f to be a uniformly continuous mapping on the set N^d x N^d xR \ {0} endowed with a suitable distance. This enables us to extend f\_H to the completion of that space, and to get an explicit asymptotic description of the Fourier transform when the 'vertical' frequency te…
We consider functions satisfying the subcritical Beurling's condition, viz., $$\int_{\R^n}\int_{\R^n} |f(x)| |\hat{f}(y)| e^{a |x \cdot y|} \, dx \, dy < \infty$$ for some $ 0 < a < 1.$ We show that such functions are entire vectors for the Schrödinger representations of the Heisenberg group. If an eigenfunction $f$ of the Fourier transform satisfies the above condition we show that the Hermite coefficients of $f$ have certain exponential decay which depends on $a$.
