This paper suggests an algebraic version of the theorem on the existence of eigenvectors for linear operators in abstract idempotent spaces. Earlier, the theorem on the existence of eigenvectors was only known for the cases of a free finite-dimensional semimodule and for compact operators in semimodules of real continuous functions.
In the framework of idempotent mathematics, analogs of the classical kernel theorems of L. Schwartz and A. Grothendieck are studied. Idempotent versions of nuclear spaces (in the sense of A. Grothendieck) are discussed. The so-called algebraic approach is used. This means that the basic concepts and results (including those of "topological" nature) are simulated in purely algebraic terms.
In this note we describe conditions under which, in idempotent functional analysis, linear operators have integral representations in terms of idempotent integral of V. P. Maslov. We define the notion of nuclear idempotent semimodule and describe idempotent analogs of the classical kernel theorems of L. Schwartz and A. Grothendieck. Our results provide a general description of a class of subsemimodules of the semimodule of all bounded functions with values in the Max-Plus algebra where some kind of kernel theorem holds, thus addressing an open problem posed by J. Gunawardena. Previously, some …
In this paper, we present an algebraic approach to idempotent functional analysis, which is an abstract version of idempotent analysis. The basic concepts and results are expressed in purely algebraic terms. We consider idempotent versions of certain basic results of linear functional analysis, including the theorem on the general form of a linear functional and the Hahn-Banach and Riesz-Fischer theorems.
In this paper we consider Idempotent Functional Analysis, an `abstract' version of Idempotent Analysis developed by V. P. Maslov and his collaborators. We give a review of the basic ideas of Idempotent Analysis. The correspondence between concepts and theorems of the traditional Functional Analysis and its idempotent version is discussed; this correspondence is similar to N. Bohr's correspondence principle in quantum theory. We present an algebraical approach to Idempotent Functional Analysis. Basic notions and results are formulated in algebraical terms; the essential point is that the operat…
Let $G$ be a locally compact group, and let ${\cal R}(G)$ denote the ring of subsets of $G$ generated by the left cosets of open subsets of $G$. The Cohen--Host idempotent theorem asserts that a set lies in ${\cal R}(G)$ if and only if its indicator function is a coefficient function of a unitary representation of $G$ on some Hilbert space. We prove related results for representations of $G$ on certain Banach spaces. We apply our Cohen--Host type theorems to the study of the Figà-Talamanca--Herz algebras $A_p(G)$ with $p \in (1,\infty)$. For arbitrary $G$, we characterize those closed ideals o…
Generalizing results of our earlier paper, we investigate the following question. Let $π(λ) : A \to B$ be an analytic family of surjective homomorphisms between two Banach algebras, and $q(λ)$ an analytic family of idempotents in $B$. We want to find an analytic family $p(λ)$ of idempotents in $A$, lifting $q(λ)$, i.e., such that $π(λ)p(λ) = q(λ)$, under hypotheses of the type that the elements of $\text{Ker}\, π(λ)$ have small spectra. For spectra which do not disconnect $\Bbb C$ we obtain a local lifting theorem. For real analytic families of surjective $^*$-homomorphisms (for continuous inv…
Idempotent integration is an analogue of the Lebesgue integration where $σ$-additive measures are replaced by $σ$-maxitive measures. It has proved useful in many areas of mathematics such as fuzzy set theory, optimization, idempotent analysis, large deviation theory, or extreme value theory. Existence of Radon--Nikodym derivatives, which turns out to be crucial in all of these applications, was proved by Sugeno and Murofushi. Here we show a converse statement to this idempotent version of the Radon--Nikodym theorem, i.e. we characterize the $σ$-maxitive measures that have the Radon--Nikodym pr…
We consider subsemimodules and convex subsets of semimodules over semirings with an idempotent addition. We introduce a nonlinear projection on subsemimodules: the projection of a point is the maximal approximation from below of the point in the subsemimodule. We use this projection to separate a point from a convex set. We also show that the projection minimizes the analogue of Hilbert's projective metric. We develop more generally a theory of dual pairs for idempotent semimodules. We obtain as a corollary duality results between the row and column spaces of matrices with entries in idempoten…
Recently in \cite{FM, FlMo}, the language of MV-algebras was extended by adding a unary operation, an internal operator, called also a state-operator. In \cite{DD1}, a stronger version of state MV-algebras, called state-morphism MV-algebras was given. In this paper, we present Stone Duality Theorems for (i) the category of Boolean algebras with a fixed state-operator and the category of compact Hausdorff topological spaces with a fixed idempotent continuous function, and for (ii) the category of weakly divisible $σ$-complete state-morphism MV-algebras and the category of Bauer simplices whose …
The recent extensions of domain theory have proved particularly efficient to study lattice-valued maxitive measures, when the target lattice is continuous. Maxitive measures are defined analogously to classical measures with the supremum operation in place of the addition. Building further on the links between domain theory and idempotent analysis highlighted by Lawson (2004), we investigate the concept of domain-valued linear forms on an idempotent (semi)module. In addition to proving representation theorems for continuous linear forms, we address two applications: the idempotent Radon--Nikod…
Let $P^V_t$, $t\ge0$, be the Schrodinger semigroup associated to a potential $V$ and Markov semigroup $P_t$, $t\ge0$, on $C(X)$. Existence is established of a left eigenvector and right eigenvector corresponding to the spectral radius $e^{λ_0t}$ of $P^V_t$, simultaneously for all $t\ge0$. This is derived with no compactness assumption on the semigroup operators.
We propose a boundary regularity condition for the $M_n(\mathbb{C})$-valued subordination functions in free probability to prove the local limit theorem and delocalization of eigenvectors for polynomials in two random matrices. We prove this through estimating the pair of $M_n(\mathbb{C})$-valued approximate subordination functions for the sum of two $M_n(\mathbb{C})$-valued random matrices $γ_1\otimes C_N+γ_2\otimes U_N^*D_NU_N$, where $C_N$, $D_N$ are deterministic diagonal matrices, and $U_N$ is Haar unitary.
Consider $\mathscr{F}$ a non-empty set of subsets of $\mathbb{N}$. An operator $T$ on $X$ satisfies property $\mathcal{P}_{\mathscr{F}}$ if for any $U$ non-empty open set in $X$, there exists $x\in X$ such that $\{n\in\mathbb{N}: T^nx\in U\}\in \mathscr{F}$. Let $\overline{\mathcal{BD}}$ the collection of sets in $\mathbb{N}$ with positive upper Banach density. Our main result is a characterization of sequence of operators satisfying property $\mathcal{P}_{\overline{\mathcal{BD}}}$, for which we have used a strong result of Bergelson and Mccutcheon in the vein of Szemerédi's theorem. It turns …
Idempotent states on locally compact quantum semigroups with weak cancellation properties are shown to be Haar states on a certain sub-object described by an operator system with comultiplication. We also give a characterization of the situation when this sub-object is actually a compact quantum subgroup. In particular we reproduce classical results on idempotent probability measures on locally compact semigroups with cancellation.
The paper presents an explicit form of the resolvent for the class of generators of $C_0$-groups with purely imaginary eigenvalues, clustering at $i\infty$, and complete minimal non-basis family of eigenvectors, constructed recently by the authors in~\cite{Sklyar3}. The growth properties of the resolvent are described. The discrete Hardy inequality serves as the cornerstone for the proofs of the corresponding results. Moreover, it is shown that the main result on the Riesz basis property for invariant subspaces of the generator of the $C_0$-group, obtained a decade ago by G.Q.~Xu, S.P.~Yung an…
We work in an ordered Banach space with closed generating positive cone. We show that a positive compact operator has zero spectral radius or a positive eigenvector with the corresponding eigenvalue equal to the spectral radius.
We present a coherent approach to recurrence and transience, starting from a version of the Riesz decomposition theorem for superharmonic elements. Our approach allows straightforward proofs of some known results, entails new theorems, and has applications to other aspects of completely positive operators: It leads to a classification of idempotent Markov operators, thereby identifying concretely the Choi-Effros product, which can be introduced on the range of these maps. We obtain an abstract Poisson integral and a representation theorem for idempotent entanglement breaking channels.
In this paper, we characterize idempotent distributions with respect to the bi-free multiplicative convolution on the bi-torus. Also, the bi-free analogous Levy triplet of an infinitely divisible distribution on the bi-torus without non-trivial idempotent factors is obtained. This triplet is unique and generates a homomorphism from the bi-free multiplicative semigroup of infinitely divisible distributions to the classical one. The relevances of the limit theorems associated with four convolutions, classical and bi-free additive convolutions and classical and bi-free multiplicative convolutions…
A generalized Krein-Rutman theorem for a strongly positive bounded linear operator whose spectral radius is larger than essential spectral radius is established: the spectral radius of the operator is an algebraically simple eigenvalue with strongly positive eigenvector and other eigenvalues are less than the spectral radius.
We present an analogue of Uhlhorn's version of Wigner's theorem on symmetry transformations for the case of indefinite inner product spaces. This significantly generalizes a result of Van den Broek. The proof is based on our main theorem, which describes the form of all bijective transformations on the set of all rank-one idempotents of a Banach space which preserve zero products in both directions.
