This note briefly reviews the {\it Mirror Principle} as developed in the series of papers \LLYI\LLYII\LLYIII\LLYIV\LCHY. We illustrate this theory with a few new examples. One of them gives an intriguing connection to a problem of counting holomorphic disks and annuli. This note has been submitted for the proceedings of the Workshop on Strings, Duality and Geometry the C.R.M. in Montreal of March 2000.
We generalize our theorems in "Mirror Principle I" to a class of balloon manifolds. Many of the results are proved for convex projective manifolds. In a subsequent paper, Mirror Principle III, we will extend the results to projective manifolds without the convexity assumption.
We obtain A- and B- series of flag manifolds for T-equivariant tangent bundles and equivariant Chern polynomial following the arguments of Lian, Liu, Yau.
We study a generalization of Lian-Liu-Yau's notion of Euler data in genus zero and show that certain sequences of multiplicative equivariant characteristic classes on Kontsevich's stable map moduli with markings induce data satisfying the generalization. In the case of one or two markings, this data is explicitly identified in terms of hypergeometric type classes, constituting a complete extension of Lian-Liu-Yau's mirror principle in genus zero to the case of two marked points and establishing a program for the general case. We give several applications involving the Euler class of obstructio…
In this survey, I suggest to approach the problem of functorial properties of quantum cohomology by drawing lessons from several versions of Mirror duality involving deformation spaces.
We generalize the theorems in {\it Mirror Principle I} and {\it II} to the case of general projective manifolds without the convexity assumption. We also apply the results to balloon manifolds, and generalize to higher genus.
This is a survey article on mirror symmetry and Fourier-Mukai partners of Calabi-Yau threefolds with Picard number one based on recent works by the authors [HoTa1,2,3,4]. For completeness, mirror symmetry and Fourier-Mukai partners of K3 surfaces are also discussed.
We survey the approach to mirror symmetry via Laurent polynomials, outlining some of the main conjectures, problems, and questions related to the subject. We discuss: how to construct Landau--Ginzburg models for Fano varieties; how to apply them to classification problems; and how to compute invariants of Fano varieties via Landau--Ginzburg models.
In [L-L-Y1, III: Sec. 5.4] on mirror principle, a method was developed to compute the integral $\int_{X}τ^{\ast}e^{H\cdot t}\cap {\mathbf 1}_d$ for a flag manifold $X=\Fl_{r_1, ..., r_I}({\Bbb C}^n)$ via an extended mirror principle diagram. This method turns the required localization computation on the augmented moduli stack $\bar{\cal M}_{0,0}(\CP^1\times X)$ of stable maps to a localization computation on a hyper-Quot-scheme $\HQuot({\cal E}^n)$. In this article, the detail of this localization computation on $\HQuot({\cal E}^n)$ is carried out. The necessary ingredients in the computation,…
We give a survey on results related to the Berglund-Hübsch duality of invertible polynomials and the homological mirror symmetry conjecture for singularities.
We describe the $S^1$-action on the Quot-scheme $\Quot({\cal E}^n)$ associated to the trivial bundle ${\cal E}^n=CP^1\times{\smallBbb C}^n$. In particlular, the topology of the $S^1$-fixed-point components in $\Quot({\cal E}^n)$ and the $S^1$-weights of the normal bundle of these components are worked out. Mirror Principle, as developed by three of the current authors in the series of work [L-L-Y1, I, II, III, IV], is a method for studying certain intersection numbers on a stable map moduli space. As an application, in Mirror Principle III, Sec 5.4, an outline was given in the case of genus ze…
We formulate a generalization of Givental-Kim's quantum hyperplane principle. This is applied to compute the quantum cohomology of a Calabi-Yau 3-fold defined as the rank 4 locus of a general skew-symmetric 7x7 matrix with coeffisients in P^6. The computation verifies the mirror symmetry predictions of Rødland in math.AG/9801092.
In this paper we describe some of the constructions of FJRW theory. We also briefly describe its relation to Saito-Givental theory via Landau-Ginzburg mirror symmetry and its relation to Gromov-Witten theory via the Landau-Ginzburg/Calabi-Yau correspondence. We conclude with a discussion of some of the recent results in the field.
We give a brief survey of some of the geometry of mirror symmetry, written in 2004 for the "Encyclopaedia of Mathematical Physics". Probably a little bit out of date now in a few places, but hey.
We propose and study the following Mirror Principle: certain sequences of multiplicative equivariant characteristic classes on Kontsevich's stable map moduli spaces can be computed in terms of certain hypergeometric type classes. As applications, we compute the equivariant Euler classes of obstruction bundles induced by any concavex bundles -- including any direct sum of line bundles -- on $¶^n$. This includes proving the formula of Candelas-de la Ossa-Green-Parkes hence completing the program of Candelas et al, Kontesevich, Manin, and Givental, to compute rigorously the instanton prepotential…
We give a survey on old and new results concerning Arnold's strange duality. We show that most of the features of this duality continue to hold for the extension of it discovered by C. T. C. Wall and the author. The results include relations to mirror symmetry and the Leech lattice.
These are notes of my lectures given at the school on intersection theory and moduli at the ICTP, Trieste. We construct moduli spaces of K3 surfaces and higherdimensional hyperkaehler manifolds, including moduli spaces of (2,2)-conformal field theories associated to hyperkaehler manifolds, and describe their period domains. Recent results on these manifolds are discussed from the moduli space point of view. The second goal is to present a detailed account of mirror symmetry for K3 surfaces. Arguments due to Aspinwall and Morrison allow one to explain various versions of mirror symmetry (e.g. f…
This article is a survey of a series of papers [FOOO3,FOOO4,FOOO5] in which we developed the method of calculation of Floer cohomology of Lagrangian torus orbits in compact toric manifolds, and its applications to symplectic topology and to mirror symmetry. In this article we summarize the main ingredients of calculation and illustrate them by examples. The second half of the survey is devoted to discussion of the most recent result from [FOOO5] (arXiv:1009.1648) where the mirror symmetry between the two Frobenius manifolds arising from the big quantum cohomology and from the K. Saito theory o…
The first part of this paper is a survey of mathematical results on mirror symmetry phenomena between Hitchin systems for Langlands dual groups. The second part introduces and discusses multiplicity algebras of the Hitchin system on Lagrangians, and considers corresponding conjectural structures on their mirror.
In this survey paper, we briefly review various aspects of the SYZ approach to mirror symmetry for non-Calabi-Yau varieties, focusing in particular on Lagrangian fibrations and wall-crossing phenomena in Floer homology. Various examples are presented, some of them new.
We survey the authors recent works, joint with A. Jacob, on Strominger-Yau-Zaslow mirror symmetry for rational elliptic surfaces and del Pezzo surfaces. We discuss some applications, including the Torelli theorem for $ALH^*$ gravitational instantons and explain how our results can be used to prove that all $ALH^*$ gravitational instantons can be compactified to a weak del Pezzo surface, recovering a recent result of Hein-Sun-Viaclovsky-Zhang.
This is a survey covering aspects of varied work of the authors with Mohammed Abouzaid, Paul Hacking, and Sean Keel. While theta functions are traditionally canonical sections of ample line bundles on abelian varieties, we motivate, using mirror symmetry, the idea that theta functions exist in much greater generality. This suggestion originates with the work of the late Andrei Tyurin. We outline how to construct theta functions on the degenerations of varieties constructed in previous work of the authors, and then explain applications of this construction to homological mirror symmetry and con…
This is a survey article on the recent progress in understanding the Strominger-Yau-Zaslow (SYZ) mirror symmetry conjecture, especially on the effect of quantum corrections, via Witten-Morse theory using the program first depicted by Fukaya to obtain an explicit relation between differential geometric operations, e.g. wedge product of differential forms and Lie-bracket of the Kodaira-Spencer complexes, with combinatorial structures, e.g. Morse $A_\infty$ structures and scattering diagrams.
We survey recent developments in the study of SYZ mirror symmetry for compact toric and toric Calabi-Yau varieties, with a special emphasis on works of the author and his collaborators.
This survey was written for the Current Developments in Mathematics conference, 2012, and is an updating of my article "The Strominger-Yau-Zaslow conjecture: From torus fibrations to degenerations," in the Seattle 2005 proceedings. We trace progress and thinking about the SYZ conjecture since its introduction in 1996. We begin with the original differential geometric conjecture and its refinements, and explain how it led to the algebro-geometric program developed by myself and Siebert. After explaining the overall philosophy, I explain how recent results fit into this program.
This note is a survey of the enumerative geometry of rational curves on Calabi-Yau threefolds, based on a talk given by the author at the May 1991 Workshop on Mirror Symmetry at MSRI. An earlier version appeared in "Essays on Mirror Manifolds"; this version corrects typographical errors that appeared in print, gives a brief update of related progress during the last two years in the form of footnotes, and has more and updated references. (To appear in the second edition of Essays on Mirror Manifolds.)
