We study the symplectic geometry of the moduli spaces $M_r=M_r(\s^3)$ of closed n-gons with fixed side-lengths in the 3-sphere. We prove that these moduli spaces have symplectic structures obtained by reduction of the fusion product of $n$ conjugacy classes in SU(2), denoted $C_r^n$, by the diagonal conjugation action of SU(2). Here $C_r^n$ is a quasi-Hamiltonian SU(2)-space. An integrable Hamiltonian system is constructed on $M_r$ in which the Hamiltonian flows are given by bending polygons along a maximal collection of nonintersecting diagonals. Finally, we show the symplectic structure on $M_r$ relates to the symplectic structure obtained from gauge-theoretic description of $M_r$. The results of this paper are analogues for the 3-sphere of results obtained for $M_r(\h^3)$, the moduli space of n-gons with fixed side-lengths in hyperbolic 3-space \cite{KMT}, and for $M_r(\E^3)$, the moduli space of n-gons with fixed side-lengths in $\E^3$
We give an explicit form of the symplectic groupoid that integrates the semiclassical standard Podles sphere. We show that Sheu's groupoid, whose convolution C*-algebra quantizes the sphere, appears as the groupoid of the Bohr-Sommerfeld leaves of a (singular) real polarization of the symplectic groupoid. By using a complex polarization we recover the convolution algebra on the space of polarized sections. We stress the role of the modular class in the definition of the scalar product in order to get the correct quantum space.
Recently, Tsai-Tseng-Yau constructed new invariants of symplectic manifolds: a sequence of Aoo-algebras built of differential forms on the symplectic manifold. We show that these symplectic Aoo-algebras have a simple topological interpretation. Namely, when the cohomology class of the symplectic form is integral, these Aoo-algebras are equivalent to the standard de Rham differential graded algebra on certain odd-dimensional sphere bundles over the symplectic manifold. From this equivalence, we deduce for a closed symplectic manifold that Tsai-Tseng-Yau's symplectic Aoo-algebras satisfy the Cal…
A closed equilateral random walk in 3-space is a selection of unit length vectors giving the steps of the walk conditioned on the assumption that the sum of the vectors is zero. The sample space of such walks with $n$ edges is the $(2n-3)$-dimensional Riemannian manifold of equilateral closed polygons in $\mathbb{R}^3$. We study closed random walks using the symplectic geometry of the $(2n-6)$-dimensional quotient of the manifold of polygons by the action of the rotation group $\operatorname {SO}(3)$. The basic objects of study are the moment maps on equilateral random polygon space given by t…
We establish various stability results for symplectic surfaces in symplectic $4-$manifolds with $b^+=1$. These results are then applied to prove the existence of representatives of Lagrangian ADE-configurations as well as to classify negative symplectic spheres in symplectic $4-$manifolds with $κ=-\infty$. This involves the explicit construction of spheres in rational manifolds via a new construction technique called the tilted transport.
We prove that the only exact Lagrangian submanifolds in an ALE space are spheres. ALE spaces are the simply connected hyperkahler manifolds which at infinity look like C^2/G for any finite subgroup G of SL(2,C). They can be realized as the plumbing of copies of the cotangent bundle of a 2-sphere according to ADE Dynkin diagrams. The proof relies on symplectic cohomology.
The evolute of a smooth curve in an m-dimensional Euclidean space is the locus of centers of its osculating spheres, and the evolute of a spatial polygon is the polygon whose consecutive vertices are the centers of the spheres through the consecutive (m+1)-tuples of vertices of the original polygon. We study the iterations of these evolute transformations. This work continues the recent study of similar problems in dimension two, see arXiv:1510.07742. Here is a sampler of our results. The set of n-gons with fixed directions of the sides, considered up to parallel translation, is an (n-m)-dimen…
We introduce scattering-symplectic manifolds, manifolds with a type of minimally degenerate Poisson structure that is not too restrictive so as to have a large class of examples, yet restrictive enough for standard Poisson invariants to be computable. This paper will demonstrate the potential of the scattering symplectic setting. In particular, we construct scattering-symplectic spheres and scattering symplectic gluings between strong convex symplectic fillings of a contact manifold. By giving an explicit computation of the Poisson cohomology of a scattering symplectic manifold, we also introd…
The moduli space of spatial polygons is known as a symplectic manifold equipped with both Kähler and real polarizations. In this paper, associated to the Kähler and real polarizations, morphisms of operads $\mathsf{f}_{\mathsf{K}\ddot{\mathsf{a}}\mathsf{h}}$ and $\mathsf{f}_{\mathsf{re}}$ are constructed by using the quantum Hilbert spaces $\mathscr{H}_{\mathrm{K}\ddot{\mathrm{a}}\mathrm{h}}$ and $\mathscr{H}_\mathrm{re}$, respectively. Moreover, the relationship between the two morphisms of operads $\mathsf{f}_{\mathsf{K}\ddot{\mathsf{a}}\mathsf{h}}$ and $\mathsf{f}_{\mathsf{re}}$ is studied …
We construct and study a natural homeomorphism between the moduli space of polynomial cubic differentials of degree d on the complex plane and the space of projective equivalence classes of oriented convex polygons with d+3 vertices. This map arises from the construction of a complete hyperbolic affine sphere with prescribed Pick differential, and can be seen as an analogue of the Labourie-Loftin parameterization of convex RP^2 structures on a compact surface by the bundle of holomorphic cubic differentials over Teichmuller space.
Lagrangian spheres in the symplectic Del Pezzo surfaces arising as blow-ups of the complex projective plane in 4 or fewer points are classified up to Lagrangian isotopy. Unlike the case of the 5-point blow-up, there is no Lagrangian knotting.
Let $(M,ω)$ be a symplectic manifold admitting a metaplectic structure (a symplectic analogue of the Riemannian spin structure) and a torsion-free symplectic connection $\nabla.$ Symplectic Killing spinor fields for this structure are sections of the symplectic spinor bundle satisfying a certain first order partial differential equation and they are the main topic of this paper. We derive a necessary condition satisfied by a symplectic Killing spinor field. The advantage of this condition consists in the fact that it is expressed by a zeroth order operator. This condition helps us substantiona…
