A note on sigular limits to hyperbolic systems

In this note we consider two different singular limits to hyperbolic system of conservation laws, namely the standard backward schemes for non linear semigroups and the semidiscrete scheme. Under the assumption that the rarefaction curve of the corresponding hyperbolic system are straight lines, we prove the stability of the solution and the convergence to the perturbed system to the unique solution of the limit system for initial data with small total variation.

Notes on the study of the viscous approximation of hyperbolic problems via ODE analysis

These notes describe some applications of the analysis of ordinary differential equations to the study of the viscous approximation of conservation laws in one space dimension. The exposition mostly focuses on the analysis of invariant manifolds like the center manifold and the stable manifold. The last section addresses a more specific issue and describes a possible way of extending the notions of center and stable manifold to some classes of singular ordinary differential equations arising in the study of the Navier-Stokes equation in one space variable.

Dispersive type estimates for Fourier integrals and applications to hyperbolic systems

In this note we provide dispersive estimates for Fourier integrals with parameter-dependent phase functions in terms of geometric quantities of associated families of Fresnel surfaces. The results are based on a multi-dimensional van der Corput lemma due to the first author. Applications to dispersive estimates for hyperbolic systems and scalar higher order hyperbolic equations are also discussed.

Asymptotic Behaviour of Solutions to Hyperbolic Partial Differential Equations

These notes provide an introduction to and a survey on recent results about the long-time behaviour of solutions to hyperbolic partial differential equations with time-dependent coefficients. Particular emphasis is given also to questions about the sharpness of estimates. An Ill Posed Cauchy Problem for a Hyperbolic System in Two Space Dimensions

The theory of weak solutions for nonlinear conservation laws is now well developed in the case of scalar equations [3] and for one-dimensional hyperbolic systems [1, 2]. For systems in several space dimensions, however, even the global existence of solutions to the Cauchy problem remains a challenging open question. In this note we construct a conterexample showing that, even for a simple class of hyperbolic systems, in two space dimensions the Cauchy problem can be ill posed.

Notes on symmetrization by Bezoutiant

Let $p$ be a monic hyperbolic polynomial and let $H$ be the Bezoutian matrix of $p$ and $p'$. Then $H$ symmetrizes the Sylvester matrix associated with $p$. This fact is observed by E.Jannelli. We give a simple proof of this fact and at the same time show that the family of Bezoutian matrices of Nuij approximation of $p$ gives quasi-symmetrizers introduced by S.Spagnolo. A relation connecting $H$with the symmetrizer which was used by J.Leray for strictly hyperbolic polynomial is given.

Colding Minicozzi Entropy in Hyperbolic Space

This note introduces a notion of entropy for submanifolds of hyperbolic space analogous to the one introduced by Colding and Minicozzi for submanifolds of Euclidean space. Several properties are proved for this quantity including monotonicity along mean curvature flow in low dimensions and a connection with the conformal volume.

Locating resonances on hyperbolic cones

In this note we explicitly compute the resonances on hyperbolic cones. These are hyperbolic manifolds with a conic singularity equipped with a warped product metric. The calculation is based on separation of variables and Kummer's connection formulae for hypergeometric functions. To our knowledge this is the one of the few explicit calculations of resonances that does not rely on the resolvent being a two-point function.

Radial standing and self-similar waves for the hyperbolic cubic NLS in 2D

In this note we propose a new set of coordinates to study the hyperbolic or non-elliptic cubic nonlinear Schrodinger equation in two dimensions. Based on these coordinates, we study the existence of bounded and continuous hyperbolically radial standing waves, as well as hyperbolically radial self-similar solutions. Many of the arguments can easily be adapted to more general nonlinearities.
