This paper studies the algebraic aspect of a general abelian coset theory with a work of Dong and Lepowsky as our main motivation. It is proved that the vacuum space $Ω_{V}$ (or the space of highest weight vectors) of a Heisenberg algebra in a general vertex operator algebra $V$ has a natural generalized vertex algebra structure in the sense of Dong and Lepowsky and that the vacuum space $Ω_{W}$ of a $V$-module $W$ is a natural $Ω_{V}$-module. The automorphism group $\Aut_{Ω_{V}}Ω_{V}$ of the adjoint $Ω_{V}$-module is studied and it is proved to be a central extension of a certain torsion free abelian group by $\C^{\times}$. For certain subgroups $A$ of $\Aut_{Ω_{V}}Ω_{V}$, certain quotient algebras $Ω_{V}^{A}$ of $Ω_{V}$ are constructed. Furthermore, certain functors among the category of $V$-modules, the category of $Ω_{V}$-modules and the category of $Ω_{V}^{A}$-modules are constructed and irreducible $Ω_{V}$-modules and $Ω_{V}^{A}$-modules are classified in terms of irreducible $V$-modules. If the category of $V$-modules is semisimple, then it is proved that the category of $Ω_{V}^{A}$-modules is semisimple.
To every vertex algebra $V$ we associate a canonical decreasing sequence of subspaces and prove that the associated graded vector space $gr(V)$ is naturally a vertex Poisson algebra, in particular a commutative vertex algebra. We establish a relation between this sequence and the sequence $C_{n}$ introduced by Zhu. By using the (classical) algebra $gr(V)$, we prove that for any vertex algebra $V$, $C_{2}$-cofiniteness implies $C_{n}$-cofiniteness for all $n\ge 2$. We further use $gr(V)$ to study generating subspaces of certain types for lower truncated $Z$-graded vertex algebras.
Recently the operator algebra and twisted vertex operator equations were given for each sector of all WZW orbifolds, and a set of twisted KZ equations for the WZW permutation orbifolds were worked out as a large example. In this companion paper we report two further large examples of this development. In the first example we solve the twisted vertex operator equations in an abelian limit to obtain the twisted vertex operators and correlators of a large class of abelian orbifolds. In the second example, the twisted vertex operator equations are applied to obtain a set of twisted KZ equations fo…
We construct a family of vertex algebras associated to the current algebra of finite-dimensional abelian Lie algebras along with their modules and logarithmic modules. We show this family of vertex algebras and their modules are quasi-conformal and strongly $\N$-graded and verify convergence and extension property needed in the logarithmic tensor category theory for strongly graded logarithmic modules developed by Huang, Lepowsky and Zhang.
We supplement the discussion of Moore and Reshetikhin and others by finding new semiclassical nonabelian vertex operators for the chiral, antichiral and nonchiral primary fields of WZW theory. These new nonabelian vertex operators are the natural generalization of the familiar abelian vertex operators: They involve only the representation matrices of Lie $g$, the currents of affine $(g \times g)$ and certain chiral and antichiral zero modes, and they reduce to the abelian vertex operators in the limit of abelian algebras. Using the new constructions, we also discuss semiclassical operator prod…
We construct orbifolds of holomorphic lattice Vertex Operator Algebras for non-Abelian finite automorphism groups $G$. To this end, we construct twisted modules for automorphisms $g$ together with the projective representation of the centralizer of $g$ on the twisted module. This allows us to extract the irreducible modules of the fixed point VOA $V^G$, and to compute their characters and modular transformation properties. We then construct holomorphic VOAs by adjoining such modules to $V^G$. Applying these methods to extremal lattices in $d=48$ and $d=72$, we construct more than fifty new hol…
We consider the extension of the Heisenberg vertex operator algebra by all its irreducible modules. We give an elementary construction for the intertwining vertex operators and show that they satisfy a complex parametrized generalized vertex operator algebra. We illustrate some of our results with the example of integral lattice vertex operator superalgebras.
We prove the abelian category of the modules over triplet VOA W(p) is category equivalent to the abelian category of the modules over quantum algebra of type sl_2 at root of unity.
We describe a natural structure of an abelian intertwining algebra (in the sense of Dong and Lepowsky) on the direct sum of the untwisted vertex operator algebra constructed {}from the Leech lattice and its (unique) irreducible twisted module. When restricting ourselves to the moonshine module, we obtain a new and conceptual proof that the moonshine module has a natural structure of a vertex operator algebra. This abelian intertwining algebra also contains an irreducible twisted module for the moonshine module with respect to the obvious involution. In addition, it contains a vertex operator s…
We compute the partition and correlation generating functions for the Heisenberg intertwiner generalized vertex operator algebra on a genus $g$ Riemann surface in the Schottky uniformization. These are expressed in terms of differential forms of the first, second and third kind, the prime form and the period matrix and are computed by combinatorial methods using a generalization of the MacMahon Master Theorem.
The reductions of conformal field theories which lead to generalized abelian cosets are studied. Primary fields and correlation functions of arbitrary abelian coset conformal field theory are explicitly expressed in terms of those of the original theory. The coset theory has global abelian symmetry.
The notion of {\it free} generalized vertex algebras is introduced. It is equivalent to the notion of {\it generalized principal subspaces} associated with lattices which are not necessarily integral. Combinatorial bases and the characters of the free generalized vertex algebras are given. As an application, the commutants of principal subspaces are described by using generalized principal subspaces.
It is proved that for a vector space W, any set of parafermion-like vertex operators on W in a certain canonical way generates a generalized vertex algebra in the sense of [DL2] with W as a natural module. This result generalizes a result of [Li2]. As an application, generalized vertex algebras are constructed from Lepowsky-Wilson's Z-algebras of any nonzero level.
Given a weight-one element $u$ of a vertex operator algebra $V$, we construct an automorphism of the category of generalized $g$-twisted modules for automorphisms $g$ of $V$ fixing $u$. We apply this construction to the case that $V$ is an affine vertex operator algebra to obtain explicit results on these automorphisms of categories. In particular, we give explicit constructions of certain generalized twisted modules from generalized twisted modules associated to diagram automorphisms of finite-dimensional simple Lie algebras and generalized (untwisted) modules.
An elementary proof is given for the existence of infinite dimensional abelian subalgebras in quantum W-algebras. In suitable realizations these subalgebras define the conserved charges of various quantum integrable systems. We consider all principle W-algebras associated with the simple Lie algebras. The proof is based on the more general result that for a class of vertex operators the quantum operators are related to their classical counterparts by an equivalence transformation.
We study Abelian generalized deformations of the usual product of polynomials introduced in hep-th/9602016. We construct an explicit example for the case of $su/2$ which provides a tentative of a quantum-mechanical description of Nambu Mechanics on $R^3$. By introducing the notions of strong and weak triviality of generalized deformations, we show that the Zariski product is never trivial in either sense, while the example constructed here in a quantum-mechanical context is only strongly non-trivial.

We introduce and study twist vertex operators for a (lower-bounded generalized) twisted modules for a grading-restricted vertex (super)algebra. We prove duality, weak associativity, a Jacobi identity, a generalized commutator formula, generalized weak commutativity, and convergence and commutativity for products of more than two operators involving twist vertex operators. These properties of twist vertex operators play an important role in the author's recent general, direct and explicit construction of (lower-bounded generalized) twisted modules.
We introduce a notion of strongly C^{\times}-graded, or equivalently, C/Z-graded generalized g-twisted V-module associated to an automorphism g, not necessarily of finite order, of a vertex operator algebra. We also introduce a notion of strongly C-graded generalized g-twisted V-module if V admits an additional C-grading compatible with g. Let V=\coprod_{n\in \Z}V_{(n)} be a vertex operator algebra such that V_{(0)}=\C\one and V_{(n)}=0 for n<0 and let u be an element of V of weight 1 such that L(1)u=0. Then the exponential of 2π\sqrt{-1} Res_{x} Y(u, x) is an automorphism g_{u} of V. In this …
This is the eighth part in a series of papers in which we introduce and develop a natural, general tensor category theory for suitable module categories for a vertex (operator) algebra. In this paper (Part VIII), we construct the braided tensor category structure, using the previously developed results.
In this paper, we construct various simple vertex superalgebras which are extensions of affine vertex algebras, by using abelian cocycle twists of representation categories of quantum groups. This solves the Creutzig and Gaiotto conjectures in the case of type ABC. If the twist is trivial, the resulting algebras correspond to chiral differential operators in the chiral case, and to WZW models in the non-chiral case.
We study sun-products on $\R^n$, i.e. generalized Abelian deformations associated with star-products for general Poisson structures on $\R^n$. We show that their cochains are given by differential operators. As a consequence, the weak triviality of sun-products is established and we show that strong equivalence classes are quite small. When the Poisson structure is linear (i.e., on the dual of a Lie algebra), we show that the differentiability of sun-products implies that covariant star-products on the dual of any Lie algebra are equivalent each other.
We give a short introduction to generalized vertex algebras, using the notion of polylocal fields. We construct a generalized vertex algebra associated to a vector space h with a symmetric bilinear form. It contains as subalgebras all lattice vertex algebras of rank equal to dim h and all irreducible representations of these vertex algebras.
In this article, we study module categries of simple current extensions of vertex operator algebras. Under certain assumptions, we show that every module for a rational vertex operator algebra be lifted to a twisted module for an extended algebra with an abelian symmetry.
We give a general, direct and explicit construction of lower-bounded generalized twisted modules satisfying a universal property for a grading-restricted vertex (super)algebra $V$ associated to an automorphism $g$ of $V$. In particular, when $g$ is the identity, we obtain lower-bounded generalized $V$-modules satisfying a universal property. Let $W$ be a lower-bounded graded vector space equipped with a set of "generating twisted fields" and a set of "generator twist fields" satisfying a weak commutativity for generating twisted fields, a generalized weak commutativity for one generating twist…
We find sufficient conditions for the construction of vertex algebraic intertwining operators, among generalized Verma modules for an affine Lie algebra $\hat{\mathfrak{g}}$, from $\mathfrak{g}$-module homomorphisms. When $\mathfrak{g}=\mathfrak{sl}_2$, these results extend previous joint work with J. Yang, but the method used here is different. Here, we construct intertwining operators by solving Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov equations for three-point correlation functions associated to $\hat{\mathfrak{g}}$, and we identify obstructions to the construction arising from the possible non-existence of …
A family of vertex operators that generalizes those given by Jing for the Hall-Littlewood symmetric functions is presented. These operators produce symmetric functions related to the Poincare polynomials referred to as generalized Kostka polynomials in the same way that Jing's operator produces symmetric functions related to Kostka-Foulkes polynomials. These operators are then used to derive commutation relations and new relations involving the generalized Kostka coefficients. Such relations may be interpreted as identities in the (GL(n) x C^*)-equivariant K-theory of the nullcone.
In this article, we study isomorphisms between simple current extensions of a simple VOA. For example, we classify the isomorphism classes of simple current extensions of some VOAs. Moreover, we consider the same simple current extension and describe the normalizer of the abelian automorphism group associated with this extension. In particular, we regard the moonshine module as simple current extensions of five subVOAs V_L^+ for 2-elementary totally even lattices L, and describe corresponding five normalizers of elementary abelian 2-group in the automorphism group of the moonshine module in te…
Let V be a simple vertex operator algebra and G a finite automorphism group. Then there is a natural right G-action on the set of all inequivalent irreducible V-modules. Let S be a finite set of inequivalent irreducible V-modules which is closed under the action of G. There is a finite dimensional semisimple associative algebra A_α(G,S) for a suitable 2-cocycle αnaturally determined by the G-action on S such that A_α(G,S) and the vertex operator algebra V^G form a dual pair on the sum of V-modules in S in the sense of Howe. In particular, every irreducible V-module is completely reducible V^G-…
We construct a vertex algebra of central charge 26 from a lattice orbifold vertex operator algebra of central charge 12. The BRST-cohomology group of this vertex algebra is a new generalized Kac-Moody algebra of rank 14. We determine its root space multiplicities and a set of simple roots.
I give a short proof of the following algebraic statement: if a vertex algebra is simple, then its underlying Lie conformal algebra is either abelian, or it is an irreducible central extension of a simple Lie conformal algebra.
In our recent paper [Sh1] a version of the "generalized Deligne conjecture" for abelian $n$-fold monoidal categories is proven. For $n=1$ this result says that, given an abelian monoidal $k$-linear category $\mathscr{A}$ with unit $e$, $k$ a field of characteristic 0, the dg vector space $\mathrm{RHom}_{\mathscr{A}}(e,e)$ is the first component of a Leinster 1-monoid in $\mathscr{A}lg(k)$ (provided a rather mild condition on the monoidal and the abelian structures in $\mathscr{A}$, called homotopy compatibility, is fulfilled). In the present paper, we introduce a new concept of a ${\it graded}…
Suppose $V^G$ is the fixed-point vertex operator subalgebra of a compact group $G$ acting on a simple abelian intertwining algebra $V$. We show that if all irreducible $V^G$-modules contained in $V$ live in some braided tensor category of $V^G$-modules, then they generate a tensor subcategory equivalent to the category $\mathrm{Rep}\,G$ of finite-dimensional representations of $G$, with associativity and braiding isomorphisms modified by the abelian $3$-cocycle defining the abelian intertwining algebra structure on $V$. Additionally, we show that if the fusion rules for the irreducible $V^G$-m…
In this paper, we construct a Q-operator as a trace of a representation of the universal R-matrix of $U_q(\hat{sl}_2)$ over an infinite-dimensional auxiliary space. This auxiliary space is a four-parameter generalization of the q-oscillator representations used previously. We derive generalized T-Q relations in which 3 of these parameters shift. After a suitable restriction of parameters, we give an explicit expression for the Q-operator of the 6-vertex model and show the connection with Baxter's expression for the central block of his corresponding operator.
We construct vertex algebraic intertwining operators among certain generalized Verma modules for $\widehat{\mathfrak{sl}(2,\mathbb{C})}$ and calculate the corresponding fusion rules. Additionally, we show that under some conditions these intertwining operators descend to intertwining operators among one generalized Verma module and two (generally non-standard) irreducible modules. Our construction relies on the irreducibility of the maximal proper submodules of generalized Verma modules appearing in the Garland-Lepowsky resolutions of standard $\widehat{\mathfrak{sl}(2,\mathbb{C})}$-modules. W…
