In the first part of this paper we begin the study of polysymplectic manifolds, and of their relationship with PDE's. This notion provides a generalization of symplectic manifolds which is very well suited for the geometric study of PDE's with values in a smooth manifold. Some of the standard tools of analytical mechanics, such as the Legendre transformation and Hamilton's equations, are shown to generalize to this new setting. There is a strong link with lagrangian fibrations, which can be used to build polysymplectic manifolds. We then provide the definition and some basic properties of s-Kahler and almost s-Kahler manifolds. These are a generalization of the usual notion of Kahler and almost Kahler manifold, and they reduce to them for s=1. The basic properties of Kahler manifolds, and their Hodge theory, can be generalized to s-Kahler manifolds, with some modifications. The most interesting examples come from semi-flat special lagrangian fibrations of Calabi-Yau manifolds.
H-minimal Lagrangian submanifolds in general Kähler manifolds generalize special Lagrangian submanifolds in Calabi-Yau manifolds. In this paper we will use the deformation theory of H-minimal Lagrangian submanifolds in Kähler manifolds to construct minimal Lagrangian torus in certain Kähler-Einstein manifolds with negative first Chern class.
We identify the perverse filtration of a Lagrangian fibration with the monodromy weight filtration of a maximally unipotent degeneration of compact hyper-Kähler manifolds.
We study the existence of three classes of Hermitian metrics on certain types of compact complex manifolds. More precisely, we consider balanced, SKT and astheno-Kähler metrics. We prove that the twistor spaces of compact hyperkähler and negative quaternionic-Kähler manifolds do not admit astheno-Kähler metrics. Then we provide examples of astheno-Kähler structures on toric bundles over Kähler manifolds. In particular, we find examples of compact complex non-Kähler manifolds which admit a balanced and an astheno-Kähler metrics, thus answering to a question in [52] (see also [24]). One of these…
In this paper, we consider Kahler-Ricci flow on n-dimensional Kahler manifold with semi-ample canonical line bundle and 0< m:= Kod(X)<n. Such manifolds admit a Calabi-Yau fibration over its canonical model. We prove that the scalar curvature of the Kahler metric along the normalized Kahler-Ricci flow converge to -m outside the singular set of this fibration.
We establish global existence of smooth solutions to heat flow for Yang-Mills-Higgs functional on Kahler fibrations. As an application, we give a new proof of the key inequality for Mundet's Hitchin-Kobayashi correspondence theorem using the heat flow technique.
We establish a compact analog of the P = W conjecture. For a holomorphic symplectic variety with a Lagrangian fibration, we show that the perverse numbers associated with the fibration match perfectly with the Hodge numbers of the total space. This builds a new connection between the topology of Lagrangian fibrations and the Hodge theory of hyper-Kähler manifolds. We present two applications of our result, one on the topology of the base and fibers of a Lagrangian fibration, the other on the refined Gopakumar-Vafa invariants of a K3 surface. Furthermore, we show that the perverse filtration as…
Hamiltonian stationary Lagrangian submanifolds (HSLAG) are a natural generalization of special Lagrangian manifolds (SLAG). The latter only make sense on Calabi-Yau manifolds whereas the former are defined for any almost Kähler manifold. Special Lagrangians, and, more specificaly, fibrations by special Lagrangians play an important role in the context of the geometric mirror symmetry conjecture. However, these objects are rather scarce in nature. On the contrary, we show that HSLAG submanifolds, or fibrations, arise quite often. Many examples of HSLAG fibrations are provided by toric Käh-ler g…

Let X --> B be a holomorphic submersion between compact Kahler manifolds of any dimension, whose fibres and base have no non-zero holomorphic vector fields and whose fibres all admit constant scalar curvature Kahler metrics. This article gives a sufficient topological condition for the existence of a constant scalar curvature Kahler metric on the total space X. The condition involves the CM-line bundle--a certain natural line bundle on B--which is proved to be nef. Knowing this, the condition is then implied by c_1(B)<0. This provides infinitely many Kahler manifolds of constant scalar curvatu…
We study adiabatic limits of Ricci-flat Kahler metrics on a Calabi-Yau manifold which is the total space of a holomorphic fibration when the volume of the fibers goes to zero. By establishing some new a priori estimates for the relevant complex Monge-Ampere equation, we show that the Ricci-flat metrics collapse (away from the singular fibers) to a metric on the base of the fibration. This metric has Ricci curvature equal to a Weil-Petersson metric that measures the variation of complex structure of the Calabi-Yau fibers. This generalizes results of Gross-Wilson for K3 surfaces to higher dimens…
We construct a geometric model of eight-dimensional manifolds and realize them in the context of type II string theory. These eight-manifolds are constructed by non-trivial $T^{4}$ fibrations over Calabi-Yau two-folds. These give rise to eight-dimensional non-Kahler Hermitian manifolds with $SU(4)$ structure. The eight-manifold is also a circle fibration over a seven-dimensional $G_{2}$ manifold with skew torsion. The eight-manifolds of this type appear as internal manifolds with $SU(4)$ structure in type IIB string theory with $F_{3}$ and $F_{7}$ fluxes. These manifolds have generalized calib…
Let $X$ be a Kähler manifold which is fibered over a complex manifold $Y$ such that every fiber is a Calabi-Yau manifold. Let $ω$ be a fixed Kähler form on $X$. By Yau's theorem, there exists a unique Ricci-flat Kähler form $ρ\vert_{X_y}$ for each fiber, which is cohomologous to $ω\vert_{X_y}$. This family of Ricci-flat Kähler forms $ρ\vert_{X_y}$ induces a smooth $(1,1)$-form $ρ$ on $X$ with a normalization condition. In this paper, we prove that the direct image of $ρ^{n+1}$ is positive on the base $Y$. We also discuss several byproducts, among them the local triviality of families of Calabi…
In this paper we investigate the geometry of Calibrated submanifolds and study relations between their moduli-space and geometry of the ambient manifold. In particular for a Calabi-Yau manifold we define Special Lagrangian submanifolds for any Kahler metric on it. We show that for a choice of Kahler metric the Borcea-Voisin threefold has a fibration structure with generic fiber being a Special Lagrangian torus. Moreover we construct a mirror to this fibration. Also for any closed G_2 form on a 7-manifold we study coassociative submanifolds and we show that one example of a G_2 manifold constru…
In this paper, we consider a special relative Kähler fibration that satisfies a homogenous Monge-Ampère equation, which is called a Monge-Ampère fibration. There exist two canonical types of generalized Weil-Petersson metrics on the base complex manifold of the fibration. For the second generalized Weil-Petersson metric, we obtain an explicit curvature formula and prove that the holomorphic bisectional curvature is non-positive, the holomorphic sectional curvature, the Ricci curvature, and the scalar curvature are all bounded from above by a negative constant. For a holomorphic vector bundle o…
K-polystability is, on the one hand, conjecturally equivalent to the existence of certain canonical Kähler metrics on polarised varieties, and, on the other hand, conjecturally gives the correct notion to form moduli. We introduce a notion of stability for families of K-polystable varieties, extending the classical notion of slope stability of a bundle, viewed as a family of K-polystable varieties via the associated projectivisation. We conjecture that this is the correct condition for forming moduli of fibrations. Our main result relates this stability condition to Kähler geometry: we prove t…
The structure of nearly Kähler manifolds was studied by Gray in several papers. More recently, a relevant progress on the subject has been done by Nagy. Among other results, he proved that a strict and complete nearly Kähler manifold is locally a Riemannian product of homogeneous nearly Kähler spaces, twistor spaces over quaternionic K{ähler manifolds and six-dimensional nearly Kähler manifolds, where the homogeneous nearly Kähler factors are also 3-symmetric spaces. In the present paper, using the lists of $3$-symmetric spaces given by Wolf & Gray, we display the exhaustive list of irreducibl…
We develop some results on the positivity of direct image bundles in the particular case of a trivial fibration over a one-dimensional base. We also apply the results to study variations of Kahler metrics.
We present explicit constructions of complete Ricci-flat Kahler metrics that are asymptotic to cones over non-regular Sasaki-Einstein manifolds. The metrics are constructed from a complete Kahler-Einstein manifold (V,g_V) of positive Ricci curvature and admit a Hamiltonian two-form of order two. We obtain Ricci-flat Kahler metrics on the total spaces of (i) holomorphic C^2/Z_p orbifold fibrations over V, (ii) holomorphic orbifold fibrations over weighted projective spaces WCP^1, with generic fibres being the canonical complex cone over V, and (iii) the canonical orbifold line bundle over a fam…
We prove that for a fibration of simply-connected spaces of finite type $F\hookrightarrow E\to B$ with $F$ being positively elliptic and $H^*(F,\qq)$ not possessing non-trivial derivations of negative degree, the base $B$ is formal if and only if the total space $E$ is formal. Moreover, in this case the fibration map is a formal map. As a geometric application we show that positive quaternion Kähler manifolds are formal and so are their associated twistor fibration maps.
We review how a reduction procedure along a principal fibration and an unfolding procedure associated to a suitable momentum map allow to describe the Kähler geometry of a finite dimensional complex projective spaces.
In this paper we will investigate torus actions on complete manifolds with calibrations. For Calabi-Yau manifolds M^2n with a Hamiltonian structure-preserving k-torus action we show that any symplectic reduction has a natural holomorphic volume form. Moreover Special Lagrangian (SLag) submanifolds of the reduction lift to SLag submanifolds of M, invariant under the torus action. If k=n-1 and the first cohomology of M is trivial, then we prove that M is a fibration with generic fiber being a SLag submanifold. As an application we will see that crepant resolutions of singularities of a finite Ab…
We show that if on a compact Kahler threefold there is a solution of the Kahler-Ricci flow which encounters a finite time collapsing singularity, then the manifold admits a Fano fibration. Furthermore, if there is finite time extinction then the manifold is Fano and the initial class is a positive multiple of the first Chern class.
In this note we show that if a compact Kahler manifold with trivial canonical bundle is the total space of a holomorphic fibration without singular fibers, then the fibration is a holomorphic fiber bundle. In the algebraic case, the fibration becomes trivial after a finite base change.
In this paper, we pose several conjectures on structures and images of maximal rationally connected fibrations of smooth projective varieties admitting semi-positive holomorphic sectional curvature. Toward these conjectures, we prove that the canonical bundle of images of such fibrations is not big. Our proof gives a generalization of Yang's solution using RC positivity for Yau's conjecture. As an application, we show that any compact Kähler surface with semi-positive holomorphic sectional curvature is rationally connected, or a complex torus, or a ruled surface over an elliptic curve.
Locally conformally Kahler (LCK) manifolds with potential are those which admit a Kahler covering with a proper, automorphic Kaehler potential. Existence of a potential can be characterized cohomologically as a vanishing of a certain cohomology class, called the Bott-Chern class. Compact LCK manifolds with potential are stable at small deformations and admit holomorphic embeddings into Hopf manifolds. This class strictly includes the Vaisman manifolds. We show that every compact LCK manifold with potential can be deformed into a Vaisman manifold. Therefore, every such manifold is diffeomorphic…
Heterotic horizons preserving 4 supersymmetries have sections which are T^2 fibrations over 6-dimensional conformally balanced Hermitian manifolds. We give new examples of horizons with sections S^3 X S^3 X T^2 and SU(3). We then examine the heterotic horizons which are T^4 fibrations over a Kahler 4-dimensional manifold. We prove that the solutions depend on 6 functions which are determined by a non-linear differential system of 6 equations that include the Monge-Ampere equation. We show that this system has an explicit solution for the Kahler manifold S^2 X S^2. We also demonstrate that ther…
We study the existence of special Lagrangian submanifolds of log Calabi-Yau manifolds equipped with the complete Ricci-flat Kähler metric constructed by Tian-Yau. We prove that if $X$ is a Tian-Yau manifold, and if the compact Calabi-Yau manifold at infinty admits a single special Lagrangian, then $X$ admits infinitely many disjoint special Lagrangians. In complex dimension $2$, we prove that if $Y$ is a del Pezzo surface, or a rational elliptic surface, and $D\in |-K_{Y}|$ is a smooth divisor with $D^2=d$, then $X= Y\backslash D$ admits a special Lagrangian torus fibration, as conjectured by …
Let $M$ be a hyperkaehler manifold, and $η$ a closed, positive (1,1)-form which is degenerate everywhere on $M$. We associate to $η$ a family of complex structures on $M$, called a degenerate twistor family, and parametrized by a complex line. When $η$ is a pullback of a Kaehler form under a Lagrangian fibration $L$, all the fibers of degenerate twistor family also admit a Lagrangian fibration, with the fibers isomorphic to that of $L$. Degenerate twistor families can be obtained by taking limits of twistor families, as one of the Kahler forms in the hyperkahler triple goes to $η$.
Ancient solutions arise in the study of Ricci flow singularities. Motivated by the work of Fateev on 3-dimensional ancient solutions we construct high dimensional ancient solutions to Ricci flow on spheres and complex projective spaces as well as the twistor spaces over a compact quaternion-Kahler manifold. Differing from Fateev's examples most of our examples are non-collapsed. The construction of this paper, different from the ad hoc anastz of Fateev, is systematic, generalizing (as well as unifying) the previous constructions of Einstein metrics by Bourguignon-Karcher, Jensen, and Ziller in…
