We propose a notion of a quantum universal enveloping algebra for an arbitrary Lie algebra defined by generators and relations which is based on the quantum Lie operation concept. This enveloping algebra has a PBW basis that admits the Kashiwara crystalization. We describe all skew primitive elements of the quantum universal enveloping algebra for the classical nilpotent algebras of the infinite series defined by the Serre relations and prove that the set of PBW-generators for each of these enveloping algebras coincides with the Lalonde-Ram basis of the ground Lie algebra with a skew commutator in place of the Lie operation. The similar statement is valid for Hall-Shirshov basis of any Lie algebra defined by one relation, but it is not so in general case.
In this note we explain, in terms of finite dimensional representations of Lie algebras $\mathfrak{sp}_{2\ell}\subset\mathfrak{sl}_{2\ell}$, a combinatorial coincidence of difference conditions in two constructions of combinatorial bases for standard representations of symplectic affine Lie algebras.
This article is a survey about applications of bi-quantization theory in Lie theory. We focus on a conjecture of M. Duflo. Most of the applications are coming from our article with Alberto Cattaneo and some extensions are relating discussions with my student. The end of the article is completely new. We prove that the conjecture E=1 implies the Kashiwara-Vergne conjecture. Our deformation is non geometric but uses a polynomial deformation of the coefficients.
We consider principal subspaces $W_{L(kΛ_0)}$ and $W_{N(kΛ_0)}$ of standard module $L(kΛ_0)$ and generalized Verma module $N(kΛ_0)$ at level $k\geq 1$ for affine Lie algebra of type $B_2^{(1)}$. By using the theory of vertex operator algebras, we find combinatorial bases of principal ubspaces in terms of quasi-particles. From quasi-particle bases, we obtain character formulas for $W_{L(kΛ_0)}$ and $W_{N(kΛ_0)}$.
In this paper we construct bases of standard (i.e. integrable highest weight) modules $L(Λ)$ for affine Lie algebra of type $B_2\sp{(1)}$ consisting of semi-infinite monomials. The main technical ingredient is a construction of monomial bases for Feigin-Stoyanovsky type subspaces $W(Λ)$ of $L(Λ)$ by using simple currents and intertwining operators in vertex operator algebra theory. By coincidence $W(kΛ_0)$ for $B_2\sp{(1)}$ and the integrable highest weight module $L(kΛ_0)$ for $A_1\sp{(1)}$ have the same parametrization of combinatorial bases and the same presentation $\mathcal P/\mathcal I$\…
We call a finite-dimensional complex Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ strongly rigid if its universal enveloping algebra $\Ug$ is rigid as an associative algebra, i.e. every formal associative deformation is equivalent to the trivial deformation. In quantum group theory this phenomenon is well-known to be the case for all complex semisimple Lie algebras. We show that a strongly rigid Lie algebra has to be rigid as Lie algebra, and that in addition its second scalar cohomology group has to vanish (which excludes nilpotent Lie algebras of dimension greater or equal than two). Moreover, using Kontsevit…
We construct combinatorial bases of principal subspaces of standard modules of level $k \geq 1$ with highest weight $kΛ_0$ for the twisted affine Lie algebras of type $A_{2l-1}^{(2)}$, $D_l^{(2)}$, $E_6^{(2)}$ and $D_4^{(3)}$. Using these bases we directly calculate characters of principal subspaces.
In 2002 Haviv gave a way of assigning Lie tensors to directed trivalent graphs. Weight systems on oriented chord idagrams modulo 6T can then be constructed from such tensors. In this paper we give explicit combinatorial formulas of weight systems using Manin triples constrcted from classical Lie algebras. We then compose these oriented weight systems with the averaging map to get weight systems on unoriented chord diagrams and show that they are the same as the ones obtained by Bar-Natan in 1991. In the last section we carry out calculations on certain examples.
J. Lepowsky and R. L. Wilson initiated the approach to combinatorial Rogers-Ramanujan type identities via the vertex operator constructions of representations of affine Lie algebras. In a joint work with Arne Meurman this approach is developed further in the framework of vertex operator algebras. The main ingredients of that construction are defining relations for standard modules and relations among them. The arguments involve both representation theory and combinatorics, the final results hold only for affine Lie algebras $A_1^{(1)}$ and $A_2^{(1)}$. In the present paper some of those argume…
We study the Howe dualities involving the reductive dual pairs $(O(d),spo(2m|2n))$ and $(Sp(d),osp(2m|2n))$ on the (super)symmetric tensor of $\C^d\otimes\C^{m|n}$. We obtain complete decompositions of this space with respect to their respective joint actions. We also use these dualities to derive a character formula for these irreducible representations of $spo(2m|2n)$ and $osp(2m|2n)$ that appear in these decompositions.
The main result of this paper is a combinatorial description of a basis of standard level 1 module for the twisted affine Lie algebra $A_2^{(2)}.$ This description also gives two new combinatorial identities of Göllnitz (or Rogers--Ramanujan) type. Methods used through the paper are mainly developed by J. Lepowsky, R. L. Wilson, A. Meurman and M. Primc, and the crucial role in constructions plays a vertex operator algebra approach to standard representations of affine Lie algebras.
Feigin-Stoyanovsky's type subspaces for affine Lie algebras of type $C_\ell^{(1)}$ have monomial bases with a nice combinatorial description. We describe bases of whole standard modules in terms of semi-infinite monomials obtained as "a limit of translations" of bases for Feigin-Stoyanovsky's type subspaces.
The standard modules for an affine Lie algebra $\ga$ have natural subquotients called parafermionic spaces -- the underlying spaces for the so-called parafermionic conformal field theories associated with $\ga.$ We study the case $\ga = \widehat{sl}(n+1,\C)$ for any positive integral level $k \geq 2.$ Generalizing the $\cal Z$-algebra approach of Lepowsky, Wilson and Primc, we construct a combinatorial basis for the parafermionic spaces in terms of colored partitions. The parts of these partitions represent ''Fourier coefficients'' of generalized vertex operators (parafermionic currents) and c…
This is the first of a series of papers studying combinatorial (with no ``subtractions'') bases and characters of standard modules for affine Lie algebras, as well as various subspaces and ``coset spaces'' of these modules. In part I we consider certain standard modules for the affine Lie algebra $\ga,\;\g := sl(n+1,\C),\;n\geq 1,$ at any positive integral level $k$ and construct bases for their principal subspaces (introduced and studied recently by Feigin and Stoyanovsky [FS]). The bases are given in terms of partitions: a color $i,\;1\leq i \leq n,$ and a charge $s,\; 1\leq s \leq k,$ are a…
In this paper we give a combinatorial parametrization of leading terms of defining relations for level $k$ standard modules for affine Lie algebra of type $C_{n}\sp{(1)}$. Using this parametrization we conjecture colored Rogers-Ramanujan type combinatorial identities for $n\geq 2$ and $k\geq 2$; the identity in the case $n=k=1$ is equivalent to one of Capparelli's identities.
For coherent families of crystals of affine Lie algebras of type B^{(1)}_n, D^{(1)}_n, A^{(2)}_{2n} and D^{(2)}_{n+1} we describe the combinatorial R matrix using column insertion algorithms for B,C,D Young tableaux.
By using the known description of combinatorial bases for Feigin-Stoyanovsky's type subspaces of standard modules for affine Lie algebra $\mathfrak{sl}(l+1,\mathbb{C})^{\widetilde{}}$, as well as certain intertwining operators between standard modules, we obtain exact sequences of Feigin-Stoyanovsky's type subspaces at fixed level $k$. This directly leads to systems of recurrence relations for formal characters of those subspaces.
J.~Lepowsky and R.~L.~Wilson initiated the approach to combinatorial Rogers-Ramanujan type identities via vertex operator constructions of standard (i.e. integrable highest weight) representations of affine Kac-Moody Lie algebras. A.~Meurman and M.~Primc developed further this approach for $\mathfrak{sl}(2,\mathbb C)\widetilde{}\ $ by using vertex operator algebras and Verma modules. In this paper we use the same method to construct combinatorial bases of basic modules for affine Lie algebras of type $C_{n}\sp{(1)}$ and, as a consequence, we obtain a series of Rogers-Ramanujan type identities.…
We give a new combinatorial interpretation of Howe dual pairs of the form $(\g,{\rm Sp}_{2\ell})$, where $\g$ is a Lie (super)algebra of classical type. This is done by establishing a symplectic analogue of the RSK algorithm associated to this pair, in a uniform way which does not depend on $\g$. We introduce an analogue of jeu de taquin sliding for spinor model of irreducible characters of a Lie superalgebra $\g$ to define $P$-tableau and show that the associated $Q$-tableau is given by a symplectic tableau due to King.
We describe realizations of the color analogue of the Heisenberg Lie algebra by power series in non-commuting indeterminates satisfying Heisenberg's canonical commutation relations of quantum mechanics. The obtained formulas are used to construct new operator representations of the color analogue of the Heisenberg Lie algebra. These representations are shown to be closely connected with some combinatorial identities and functional difference-differential interpolation formulae involving Euler, Bernoulli and Stirling numbers.
We define a "combinatorial Hopf algebra" as a Hopf algebra which is free (or cofree) and equipped with a given isomorphism to the free algebra over the indecomposables (resp. the cofree coalgebra over the primitives). The choice of such an isomorphism implies the existence a finer algebraic structure on the Hopf algebra and on the indecomposables (resp. the primitives). For instance a cofree-cocommutative right-sided combinatorial Hopf algebra is completely determined by its primitive part which is a pre-Lie algebra. The key example is the Connes-Kreimer Hopf algebra. The study of all these co…
Covariant tensor representations of gl(m|n) occur as irreducible components of tensor powers of the natural (m+n)-dimensional representation. We construct a basis of each covariant representation and give explicit formulas for the action of the generators of gl(m|n) in this basis. The basis has the property that the natural Lie subalgebras gl(m) and gl(n) act by the classical Gelfand-Tsetlin formulas. The main role in the construction is played by the fact that the subspace of gl(m)-highest vectors in any finite-dimensional irreducible representation of gl(m|n) carries a structure of an irredu…
Let $\gtl$ be an affine Lie algebra of type $D_{\ell}^{(1)}$ and $L(Λ)$ its standard module with a highest weight vector $v_Λ$. For a given $\Z$-gradation $\gtl = \gtl_{-1} + \gtl_0 + \gtl_1$, we define Feigin-Stoyanovsky's type subspace as $$W(Λ) = U(\gtl_1) \cdot v_Λ.$$ By using vertex operator relations for standard modules we reduce the Ponicaré-Brikhoff-Witt spanning set of $W(Λ)$ to a basis and prove its linear independence by using Dong-Lepowsky intertwining operators.
We consider the principal subspaces of certain level $k\geqslant 1$ integrable highest weight modules and generalized Verma modules for the untwisted affine Lie algebras in types $D$, $E$ and $F$. Generalizing the approach of G. Georgiev we construct their quasi-particle bases. We use the bases to derive presentations of the principal subspaces, calculate their character formulae and find some new combinatorial identities.
Given an affine Kac-Moody Lie algebra $\tilde{\mathfrak{g}}[σ]$ of arbitrary type, we determine certain minimal sets of annihilating fields of standard $\tilde{\mathfrak{g}}[σ]$-modules. We then use these sets in order to obtain a characterization of standard $\tilde{\mathfrak{g}}[σ]$-modules in terms of irreducible loop $\tilde{\mathfrak{g}}[σ]$-modules, which proves to be a useful tool for combinatorial constructions of bases for standard $\tilde{\mathfrak{g}}[σ]$-modules.
Let $\tilde{\mathfrak g}$ be an affine Lie algebra of type $A_\ell^{(1)}$. Suppose we're given a $\mathbb Z$-gradation of the corresponding simple finite-dimensional Lie algebra ${\mathfrak g}={\mathfrak g}_{-1}\oplus{\mathfrak g}_0 \oplus {\mathfrak g}_1$; then we also have the induced $\mathbb Z$-gradation of the affine Lie algebra $$\tilde{\mathfrak g}=\tilde{\mathfrak g}_{-1} \oplus \tilde{\mathfrak g}_0 \oplus \tilde{\mathfrak g}_1.$$ Let $L(Λ)$ be a standard module of level 1. Feigin-Stoyanovsky's type subspace $W(Λ)$ is the $\tilde{\mathfrak g}_1$-submodule of $L(Λ)$ generated by the hi…
We show that a set of local admissible fields generates a vertex algebra. For an affine Lie algebra $\tilde\goth g$ we construct the corresponding level $k$ vertex operator algebra and we show that level $k$ highest weight $\tilde\goth g$-modules are modules for this vertex operator algebra. We determine the set of annihilating fields of level $k$ standard modules and we study the corresponding loop $\tilde\goth g$ module---the set of relations that defines standard modules. In the case when $\tilde\goth g$ is of type $A_1^{(1)}$, we construct bases of standard modules parameterized by colored…
We compute the decomposition of representations of Yangians into g-modules for simply-laced Lie algebras g. The decomposition has an interesting combinatorial tree structure. Results depend on a conjecture of Kirillov and Reshetikhin.
For an affine Lie algebra $\hat{\mathfrak g}$ the coefficients of certain vertex operators which annihilate level $k$ standard $\hat{\mathfrak g}$-modules are the defining relations for level $k$ standard modules. In this paper we study a combinatorial structure of the leading terms of these relations for level $k=2$ standard $\hat{\mathfrak g}$-modules for affine Lie algebras of type $C_{n}\sp{(1)}$ and the main result is a construction of combinatorially parameterized relations among the coefficients of annihilating fields. It is believed that the constructed relations among relations will p…
We generalize a result on the Heisenberg Lie algebra that gives restrictions to possible Lie bialgebra cobrackets on 2-step nilpotent algebras with some additional properties. For the class of 2-step nilpotent Lie algebras coming from graphs, we describe these extra properties in a very easy graph-combinatorial way. We exhibit applications for $\mathfrak f_n$, the free 2-step nilpotent Lie algebra.
Let $\tilde{\mathfrak g}$ be an affine Lie algebra of the type $A_\ell^{(1)}$. We find a combinatorial basis of Feigin-Stoyanovsky's type subspace $W(Λ)$ given in terms of difference and initial conditions. Linear independence of the generating set is proved inductively by using coefficients of intertwining operators. A basis of $L(Λ)$ is obtained as an "inductive limit" of the basis of $W(Λ)$.
Kirillov-Reshetikhin crystals are colored directed graphs encoding the structure of certain finite-dimensional representations of affine Lie algebras. A tensor products of column shape Kirillov-Reshetikhin crystals has recently been realized in a uniform way, for all untwisted affine types, in terms of the quantum alcove model. We enhance this model by using it to give a uniform realization of the combinatorial $R$-matrix, i.e., the unique affine crystal isomorphism permuting factors in a tensor product of KR crystals. In other words, we are generalizing to all Lie types Schützenberger's slidi…
We use combinatorial description of bases of Feigin-Stoyanovsky's type subspaces of standard modules of level 1 for affine Lie algebras of types $A_\ell^{(1)}$ and $D_4^{(1)}$ to obtain character formulas. These descriptions naturally lead to systems of recurrence relations for which we also find solutions.
Trivalent plane graphs are used in various areas of mathematics which relate for instance to the colored Jones polynomial, invariants of 3-manifolds and quantum computation. Their evaluation is based on computations in the Temperley-Lieb algebra and more specifically the Jones-Wenzl projectors. We use the work by Kauffman-Lins to present a quantum combinatorial approach for evaluating a tetrahedral net. On the way we recover two equivalent definitions for the unsigned Stirling numbers of the first kind and we provide an equality for the quantized factorial using these numbers.
A previous work gave a combinatorial description of the crystal $B(\infty)$, in terms of certain simple Young tableaux referred to as the marginally large tableaux, for finite dimensional simple Lie algebras. Using this result, we present an explicit description of the crystal $B(λ)$, in terms of the marginally large tableaux, for the $G_2$ Lie algebra type. We also provide a new description of $B(\la)$, in terms of Nakajima monomials, that is in natural correspondence with our tableau description.
We derive an inductive, combinatorial definition of a polynomial-valued regular isotopy invariant of links and tangled graphs. We show that the invariant equals the Reshetikhin-Turaev invariant corresponding to the exceptional simple Lie algebra G_2. It is therefore related to G_2 in the same way that the HOMFLY polynomial is related to A_n and the Kauffman polynomial is related to B_n, C_n, and D_n. We give parallel constructions for the other rank 2 Lie algebras and present some combinatorial conjectures motivated by the new inductive definitions.
The Weyl-Kac character formula gives a beautiful closed-form expression for the characters of integrable highest-weight modules of Kac-Moody algebras. It is not, however, a formula that is combinatorial in nature, obscuring positivity. In this paper we show that the theory of Hall-Littlewood polynomials may be employed to prove Littlewood-type combinatorial formulas for the characters of certain highest weight modules of the affine Lie algebras C_n^{(1)}, A_{2n}^{(2)} and D_{n+1}^{(2)}. Through specialisation this yields generalisations for B_n^{(1)}, C_n^{(1)}, A_{2n-1}^{(2)}, A_{2n}^{(2)} an…
A Pre-Lie algebra is a vector space L endowed with a bilinear product * : L \times L to L satisfying the relation (x*y)*z-x*(y*z)= (x*z)*y-x*(z*y), for all x,y,z in L. We give an explicit combinatorial description in terms of rooted trees of the operad associated to this type of algebras and prove that it is a Koszul operad.
Rota-Baxter algebras were introduced to solve some analytic and combinatorial problems and have appeared in many fields in mathematics and mathematical physics. Rota-Baxter algebras provide a construction of pre-Lie algebras from associative algebras. In this paper, we give all Rota-Baxter operators of weight 1 on complex associative algebras in dimension $\leq 3$ and their corresponding pre-Lie algebras.
Graph cocycles for star-products are investigated from the combinatorial point of view, using Connes-Kreimer renormalization techniques. The Hochschild complex, controlling the deformation theory of associative algebras, is the ``Kontsevich representation'' of a DGLA of graphs coming from a pre-Lie algebra structure defined by graph insertions. Properties of the dual of its UEA (an odd parity analog of Connes-Kreimer Hopf algebra), are investigated in order to find solutions of the deformation equation. The solution of the initial value deformation problem, at tree-level, is unique. For linear…
A spider is an axiomatization of the representation theory of a group, quantum group, Lie algebra, or other group or group-like object. We define certain combinatorial spiders by generators and relations that are isomorphic to the representation theories of the three rank two simple Lie algebras, namely A2, B2, and G2. They generalize the widely-used Temperley-Lieb spider for A1. Among other things, they yield bases for invariant spaces which are probably related to Lusztig's canonical bases, and they are useful for computing quantities such as generalized 6j-symbols and quantum link invariant…
