We study the Chow groups and the Chow motives of the wonderful compactifications $Y_{\mathcal{G}}$ of arrangements of subvarieties. We prove a natural decomposition of the Chow motive of $Y_\mathcal{G}$, in particular of the Fulton-MacPherson configuration space $X[n]$. We prove formulas for the rational Chow motives of moduli spaces of semistable vector bundles and Higgs bundles of rank 3 and coprime degree on a smooth projective curve. Our approach involves identifying criteria to lift identities in (a completion of) the Grothendieck group of effective Chow motives to isomorphisms in the category of Chow motives. For the Higgs moduli space, we use motivic Bialynicki-Birula decompositions associated to a scaling action with variation of stability and wall-crossing for moduli spaces of rank 2 pairs, which occur in the fixed locus of this action.

In this paper, the Lawson homology and morphic cohomology are defined on the Chow motives. We also define the rational coefficient Lawson homology and morphic cohomology of the Chow motives of finite quotient projective varieties. As a consequence, we obtain a formula for the Hilbert scheme of points on a smooth complex projective surface. Further discussion concerning generic finite maps is given. Moreover, we construct a map from local Hilbert functor to local cohomology. We prove that the Chow motive of an anisotropic projective homogeneous variety of type F4 is isomorphic to the direct sum of twisted copies of a generalized Rost motive. In particular, we provide an explicit construction of a generalized Rost motive for a generically splitting variety for a symbol in K_3^M(k)/3. We also establish a motivic isomorphism between two anisotropic non-isomorphic projective homogeneous varieties of type F4. All our results hold for Chow motives with integral coefficients.

Kimura) with the Conjectures of Beilinson, Bloch and Murre on the existence of a filtration on the Chow ring CH(X). This note is about the Chow groups of a certain family of smooth cubic fourfolds. This family is characterized by the property that each cubic fourfold $X$ in the family has an involution such that the induced involution on the Fano variety $F$ of lines in $X$ is symplectic and has a $K3$ surface $S$ in the fixed locus. The main result establishes a relation between $X$ and $S$ on the level of Chow motives. As a consequence, we can prove finite-dimensionality of the motive of certain members of the family.
