On the failure of subadditivity of the Wigner-Yanase entropy

It was recently shown by Hansen that the Wigner-Yanase entropy is, for general states of quantum systems, not subadditive with respect to decomposition into two subsystems, although this property is known to hold for pure states. We investigate the question whether the weaker property of subadditivity for pure states with respect to decomposition into more than two subsystems holds. This property would have interesting applications in quantum chemistry. We show, however, that it does not hold in general, and provide a counterexample.

Metric adjusted skew information

We extend the concept of Wigner-Yanase-Dyson skew information to something we call ``metric adjusted skew information'' (of a state with respect to a conserved observable). This ``skew information'' is intended to be a non-negative quantity bounded by the variance (of an observable in a state) that vanishes for observables commuting with the state. We show that the skew information is a convex function on the manifold of states. On the multifractal dimensions and statistical properties of critical ensembles characterized by the three classical Wigner-Dyson symmetry classes

We introduce a power-law banded random matrix model for the third of the three classical Wigner-Dyson ensembles, i.e., the symplectic ensemble. A detailed analysis of the statistical properties of its eigenvectors and eigenvalues, at criticality, is presented. Fixed energy universality for generalized Wigner matrices

We prove the Wigner-Dyson-Mehta conjecture at fixed energy in the bulk of the spectrum for generalized symmetric and Hermitian Wigner matrices. Previous results concerning the universality of random matrices either require an averaging in the energy parameter or they hold only for Hermitian matrices if the energy parameter is fixed. We develop a homogenization theory of the Dyson Brownian motion and show that microscopic universality follows from mesoscopic statistics.

Bulk Universality for Wigner Matrices

We consider $N\times N$ Hermitian Wigner random matrices $H$ where the probability density for each matrix element is given by the density $ν(x)= e^{- U(x)}$. We prove that the eigenvalue statistics in the bulk is given by Dyson sine kernel provided that $U \in C^6(\RR)$ with at most polynomially growing derivatives and $ν(x) \le C e^{- C |x|}$ for $x$ large. The proof is based upon an approximate time reversal of the Dyson Brownian motion combined with the convergence of the eigenvalue density to the Wigner semicircle law on short scales.

Universality for Random Matrix Flows with Time-dependent Density

We show that the Dyson Brownian Motion exhibits local universality after a very short time assuming that local rigidity and level repulsion hold. These conditions are verified, hence bulk spectral universality is proven, for a large class of Wigner-like matrices, including deformed Wigner ensembles and ensembles with non-stochastic variance matrices whose limiting densities differ from the Wigner semicircle law.

Cusp Universality for Random Matrices II: The Real Symmetric Case

We prove that the local eigenvalue statistics of real symmetric Wigner-type matrices near the cusp points of the eigenvalue density are universal. Together with the companion paper [arXiv:1809.03971], which proves the same result for the complex Hermitian symmetry class, this completes the last remaining case of the Wigner-Dyson-Mehta universality conjecture after bulk and edge universalities have been established in the last years.
