Duality, monotonicity and the Wigner-Yanase-Dyson metrics

We show that, for each alpha in the interval (-1,1), the only Riemannian metrics on the space of positive definite matrices for which the alpha and -alpha-connections are mutually dual are matrix multiples fo the Wigner-Yanase-Dyson metric. If we further impose that the metric be monotone, then this set is reduced to scalar multiples of the Wigner-Yanase-Dyson metric.

Flat connections and Wigner-Yanase-Dyson metrics

On the manifold of positive definite matrices, we investigate the existence of pairs of flat affine connections, dual with respect to a given monotone metric. The connections are defined either using the $α$-embeddings and finding the duals with respect to the metric, or by means of contrast functionals. We show that in both cases, the existence of such a pair of connections is possible if and only if the metric is given by the Wigner-Yanase-Dyson skew information.

An inequality related to uncertainty principle in von Neumann algebras

Recently Kosaki proved an inequality for matrices that can be seen as a kind of new uncertainty principle. Independently, the same result was proved by Yanagi, Furuichi and Kuriyama. The new bound is given in terms of Wigner-Yanase-Dyson informations. Kosaki himself asked if this inequality can be proved in the setting of von Neumann algebras. In this paper we provide a positive answer to that question and moreover we show how the inequality can be generalized to an arbitrary operator monotone function.

Metric adjusted skew information

We extend the concept of Wigner-Yanase-Dyson skew information to something we call ``metric adjusted skew information'' (of a state with respect to a conserved observable). This ``skew information'' is intended to be a non-negative quantity bounded by the variance (of an observable in a state) that vanishes for observables commuting with the state. We show that the skew information is a convex function on the manifold of states. Uncertainty Principle and Quantum Fisher Information

We show that an inequality recently proved by Kosaki and Yanagi-Furuichi-Kuriyama [arXiv:quant-ph/0501152] has a natural geometric interpretation in terms of monotone metrics associated to Wigner-Yanase-Dyson information. Moreover we give a counterexample showing that the inequality does not hold for every monotone metric of this type.

Metric adjusted skew information: Convexity and restricted forms of superadditivity

We give a truly elementary proof of the convexity of metric adjusted skew information following an idea of Effros. We extend earlier results of weak forms of superadditivity to general metric adjusted skew informations.
