Following the previous authors works (joint with I.A.Dynnikov) we develop a theory of the discrete analogs of the differential-geometrical (DG) connections in the triangulated manifolds. We study a nonstandard discretization based on the interpretation of DG Connection as linear first order (''triangle'') difference equation acting on the scalar functions of vertices in any simplicial manifold. This theory appeared as a by-product of the new type of discretization of the special Completely Integrable Systems, such as the famous 2D Toda Lattice and corresponding 2D stationary Schrodinger operators. A nonstandard discretization of the 2D Complex Analysis based on these ideas was developed in our recent work closely connected with this one. A complete classification theory is constructed here for the Discrete DG Connections based on the mixture of the abelian and nonabelian features.
Discretization Program of the famous Completely Integrable Systems and associated Linear Operators was developed in 1990s. In particular, specific properties of the second order difference operators on the triangulated manifolds and equilateral triangle lattices were studied in the works of S.Novikov and I.Dynnikov since 1996. They involve factorization of operators, the so-called Laplace Transformations, new discretization of Complex Analysis and new discretization of $GL_n$ connections on the triangulated $n$-manifolds. The general theory of the new type discrete $GL_n$ connections was devel…
In this short note, we prove that the space of all admissible piecewise linear metrics parameterized by length square on a triangulated manifolds is a convex cone. We further study Regge's Einstein-Hilbert action and give a much more reasonable definition of discrete Einstein metric than our former version in \cite{G}. Finally, we introduce a discrete Ricci flow for three dimensional triangulated manifolds, which is closely related to the existence of discrete Einstein metrics.
Consider a surface $Ω$ with a boundary obtained by gluing together a finite number of equilateral triangles, or squares, along their boundaries, equipped with a flat unitary vector bundle. Let $Ω^δ$ be the discretization of this surface by a bi-periodic lattice with enough symmetries, scaled to have mesh size $δ$. We show that the logarithm of the product of non-zero eigenvalues of the discrete Laplacian acting on the sections of the bundle is asymptotic to \[ A|Ω^δ|+B|\partialΩ^δ|+C\logδ+D+o(1). \] Here $A$ and $B$ are lattice-dependent constants; $C$ is an explicit constant depending on the …
This work revisits, from a geometric perspective, the notion of discrete connection on a principal bundle, introduced by M. Leok, J. Marsden and A. Weinstein. It provides precise definitions of discrete connection, discrete connection form and discrete horizontal lift and studies some of their basic properties and relationships. An existence result for discrete connections on principal bundles equipped with appropriate Riemannian metrics is proved.
The search for universality in random triangulations of manifolds, like those featuring in (Euclidean) Dynamical Triangulations, is central to the random geometry approach to quantum gravity. In case of the 3-sphere, or any other manifold of dimension greater than two for that matter, the pursuit is held back by serious challenges, including the wide open problem of enumerating triangulations. In an attempt to bypass the toughest challenges we identify a restricted family of triangulations, of which the enumeration appears less daunting. In a nutshell, the family consists of triangulated 3-sph…
In a way similar to the continuous case formally, we define in different but equivalent manners the difference discrete connection and curvature on discrete vector bundle over the regular lattice as base space. We deal with the difference operators as the discrete counterparts of the derivatives based upon the differential calculus on the lattice. One of the definitions can be extended to the case over the random lattice. We also discuss the relation between our approach and the lattice gauge theory and apply to the discrete integrable systems.
A non-traditional approach to the discretization of differential-geometrical connections was suggested by the authors in 1997. At the same time we started studying first order difference ``black and white triangle operators (equations)'' on triangulated surfaces with a black and white coloring or triangles. In this work, we develop the theory of these operators and equations, showing their similarity with complex derivatives.
We review some of our recent work on the conformal geometry corresponding to the triangulated surfaces used in 2-dimensional simplicial quantum gravity. In particular, we discuss the regularized Liouville action associated with random Regge triangulations and its connection with Hodge-Deligne theory.
The spectral transformation technique for symmetric R_{II} polynomials is developed. Use of this technique reveals that the nonautonomous discrete modified KdV (nd-mKdV) lattice is directly connected with the R_{II} chain. Hankel determinant solutions to the semi-infinite nd-mKdV lattice are also presented.
We generalize our previous results (Theorem 1 and Corollary 2 in arXiv:1412.4114) and Theorem 1 in arXiv:1502.00668) on the existence of an $L^2$-energy gap for Yang-Mills connections over closed four-dimensional manifolds and energies near the ground state (occupied by flat, anti-self-dual, or self-dual connections) to the case of Yang-Mills connections with arbitrary energies. We prove that for any principal bundle with compact Lie structure group over a closed, four-dimensional, Riemannian manifold, the $L^2$ energies of Yang-Mills connections on a principal bundle form a discrete sequence …
Compatibility conditions are investigated for planar network structures consisting of nodes and connecting bars; these conditions restrict the elongations of bars and are analogous to the compatibility conditions of deformation in continuum mechanics. The requirement that the deformations remain planar imposes compatibility. Compatibility for structures with prescribed lengths and its linearization is considered. For triangulated structures, compatibility is expressed as a polynomial equation in the lengths of edges of the star domain surrounding each interior node. The continuum limits of the…
We study discrete Schroedinger operators with analytic potentials. In particular, we are interested in the connection between the absolutely continuous spectrum in the almost periodic case and the spectra in the periodic case. We prove a weak form of a precise conjecture relating the two. We also bound the measure of the spectrum in the periodic case in terms of the Lyapunov exponent in the almost periodic case. In the proofs, we use a partial generalization of Chambers' formula. As an additional application of this generalization, we provide a new proof of Herman's lower bound for the Lyapuno…
Over the past few years it has been discovered that an "observable" can be set up on the lattice which obeys the discrete Cauchy-Riemann equations. The ensuing condition of discrete holomorphicity leads to a system of linear equations which can be solved to yield the Boltzmann weights of the underlying lattice model. Surprisingly, these are the well known Boltzmann weights which satisfy the star-triangle or Yang-Baxter equations at criticality. This connection has been observed for a number of exactly solved models. I briefly review these developments and discuss how this connection can be mad…
A discrete nonlinear system is analysed in case of open chain boundary conditions at the ends. It is shown that the integrability of the system remains intact, by obtaining a modified set of Lax equations which automatically take care of the boundary conditions. The same Lax pair also conforms to the conditions stipulated by Sklyanin [5]. The quantum inverse problem is set up and the diagonalisation is carried out by the method of sparation of variables. Bäcklund transformations are then derived under the modified boundary conditions using the classical r-matrix . Finally by quantising the Bäc…
We start by presenting a generalization of a discrete wave equation that is particularly satisfied by the entries of the matrix coefficients of the refinement equation corresponding to the multiresolution analysis of Alpert. The entries are in fact functions of two discrete variables and they can be expressed in terms of the Legendre polynomials. Next, we generalize these functions to the case of the ultraspherical polynomials and show that these new functions obey two generalized eigenvalue problems in each of the two discrete variables, which constitute a generalized bispectral problem. At t…
We introduce the tau-function of a rational d-connection and its isomonodromy transformations. We show that in a continuous limit our tau-function agrees with the Jimbo-Miwa-Ueno tau-function, compute the tau-function for the isomonodromy transformations leading to difference Painleve V and difference Painleve VI equations, and prove that the gap probability for a wide class of discrete random matrix type models can be viewed as the tau-function for an associated d-connection.
We explore the connection between the transfer matrix formalism and discrete complex analysis approach to the two dimensional Ising model. We construct a discrete analytic continuation matrix, analyze its spectrum and establish a direct connection with the critical Ising transfer matrix. We show that the lattice fermion operators of the transfer matrix formalism satisfy, as operators, discrete holomorphicity, and we show that their correlation functions are Ising parafermionic observables. We extend these correspondences also to outside the critical point. We show that critical Ising correlati…
