The rational generalized integrating factors for first-order ODEs

We describe a solving semi-decision method based on examination of the rational structures of the generalized integrating factors of first-order ODEs. We propose a conjecture that for some family of equations of the type dy/dx=P(x,y)/Q(x,y), with P and Q polynomials only in y (or in x), the general form of the structures of generalized integrating factors are rational in y (or in x). In such a way one can obtain a differential-algebraic polynomial system for undetermined parameters of the structures. The successful solution of this system (it is sufficient to find any particular solution) automatically leads to finding the general solutions of ODEs.

Integrating factors for second order ODEs

A systematic algorithm for building integrating factors of the form mu(x,y), mu(x,y') or mu(y,y') for second order ODEs is presented. The algorithm can determine the existence and explicit form of the integrating factors themselves without solving any differential equations, except for a linear ODE in one subcase of the mu(x,y) problem. Reducing triangular systems of ODEs with rational coefficients, with applications to coupled Regge-Wheeler equations

We concisely summarize a method of finding all rational solutions to an inhomogeneous rational ODE system of arbitrary order (but solvable for its highest order terms) by converting it into a finite dimensional linear algebra problem. Finding Liouvillian first integrals of rational ODEs of any order in finite terms

Hypergeometric solutions for third order linear ODEs

In this paper we present a decision procedure for computing pFq hypergeometric solutions for third order linear ODEs, that is, solutions for the classes of hypergeometric equations constructed from the 3F2, 2F2, 1F2 and 0F2 standard equations using transformations of the form {x -> F(x), y -> P(x) y}, where F(x) is rational in x and P(x) is arbitrary. Non-Liouvillian solutions for second order linear ODEs

There exist sound literature and algorithms for computing Liouvillian solutions for the important problem of linear ODEs with rational coefficients. Determining Liouvillian First Integrals for Dynamical Systems in the Plane

Here we present/implement an algorithm to find Liouvillian first integrals of dynamical systems in the plane. In \cite{JCAM}, we have introduced the basis for the present implementation. The particular form of such systems allows reducing it to a single rational first order ordinary differential equation (rational first order ODE). We present a set of software routines in Maple 10 for solving rational first order ODEs. The package present commands permitting research incursions of some algebraic properties of the system that is being studied.

On the preservation of second integrals by Runge-Kutta methods

One can elucidate integrability properties of ordinary differential equations (ODEs) by knowing the existence of second integrals (also known as weak integrals or Darboux polynomials for polynomial ODEs). However, little is known about how they are preserved, if at all, under numerical methods. A Semi-Algorithmic Search for Lie Symmetries

In [Solving second order ordinary differential equations by extending the Prelle-Singer method, J. Phys. A: Math.Gen., 34, 3015-3024 (2001)] we defined a function (we called S) associated to a rational second order ordinary differential equation (rational 2ODE) that is linked to the search of an integrating factor. In this work we investigate the relation between these $S$-functions and the Lie symmetries of a rational 2ODE. Based on this relation we can construct a semi-algorithmic method to find the Lie symmetries of a 2ODE even in the case where it presents no Lie point symmetries.
