Scattering in a model of a massive quantum-mechanical particle, an ``electron'', interacting with massless, relativistic bosons, ``photons'', is studied. The interaction term in the Hamiltonian of our model describes emission and absorption of ``photons'' by the ``electron''; but ``electron-positron'' pair production is suppressed. An ultraviolet cutoff and an (arbitrarily small, but fixed) infrared cutoff are imposed on the interaction term. In a range of energies where the propagation speed of the dressed ``electron'' is strictly smaller than the speed of light, unitarity of the scattering matrix is proven, provided the coupling constant is small enough; (asymptotic completeness of Compton scattering). The proof combines a construction of dressed one--electron states with propagation estimates for the ``electron'' and the ``photons''.
Under the effect of suitable time-periodic magnetic fields, the velocity of a charged particle grows exponentially in $t$; this phenomenon provides the asymptotic completeness for wave operators with slowly decaying potentials. These facts were shown under some restrictions for time-periodic magnetic fields and the range of wave operators. In this study, we relax these restrictions and finally obtain the asymptotic completeness of wave operators. Additionally, we show them under generalized conditions, which are truly optimal for time-periodic magnetic fields. Moreover, we provide a uniform re…
We consider an abstract pseudo-Hamiltonian for the nuclear optical model, given by a dissipative operator of the form $H = H_V - i C^* C$, where $H_V = H_0 + V$ is self-adjoint and $C$ is a bounded operator. We study the wave operators associated to $H$ and $H_0$. We prove that they are asymptotically complete if and only if $H$ does not have spectral singularities on the real axis. For Schrödinger operators, the spectral singularities correspond to real resonances.
We review recent results obtained in the scattering theory of dissipative quantum systems representing the long-time evolution of a system $S$ interacting with another system $S'$ and susceptible of being absorbed by $S'$. The effective dynamics of $S$ is generated by an operator of the form $H = H_0 + V - \mathrm{i} C^* C$ on the Hilbert space of the pure states of $S$, where $H_0$ is the self-adjoint generator of the free dynamics of $S$, $V$ is symmetric and $C$ is bounded. The main example is a neutron interacting with a nucleus in the nuclear optical model. We recall the basic objects of …
We give a criterion of asymptotic completeness and provide a representation of the scattering matrix for the scattering couple $(A_{0},A)$, where $A_{0}$ and $A$ are semi-bounded self-adjoint operators in $L^{2}(M,{\mathscr B},m)$ such that the set $\{u\in D(A_{0})\cap D(A):A_{0}u=Au\}$ is dense. No sort of trace-class condition on resolvent differences is required. Applications to the case in which $A_{0}$ corresponds to the free Laplacian in $L^{2}({\mathbb R}^{n})$ and $A$ describes the Laplacian with self-adjoint boundary conditions on rough compact hypersurfaces are given.
We show asymptotic completeness for linear massive Dirac fields on the Schwarzschild-Anti-de Sitter spacetime. The proof is based on a Mourre estimate. We also construct an asymptotic velocity for this field.
We consider mathematical models of the weak decay of the vector bosons $W^{\pm}$ into leptons. The free quantum field hamiltonian is perturbed by an interaction term from the standard model of particle physics. After the introduction of high energy and spatial cut-offs, the total quantum hamiltonian defines a self-adjoint operator on a tensor product of Fock spaces. We study the scattering theory for such models. First, the masses of the neutrinos are supposed to be positive: for all values of the coupling constant, we prove asymptotic completeness of the wave operators. In a second model, neu…
We show asymptotic completeness for the charged Klein-Gordon equation in the exterior De Sitter-Reissner-Nordström spacetime when the product of the charge of the black hole with the charge of Klein-Gordon field is small enough. We then interpret scattering as asymptotic transports along principal null geodesics in a Kaluza-Klein extension of the original spacetime.
We give a short description of the proof of asymptotic-completeness for NLS-type equations, including time dependent potential terms, with radial data in three dimensions. We also show how the method applies for the two-body Quantum Scattering case.
