Mobility support in IPv6 networks is ready for release as an RFC, stimulating major discussions on improvements to meet real-time communication requirements. Sprawling hot spots of IP-only wireless networks at the same time await voice and videoconferencing as standard mobile Internet services, thereby adding the request for multicast support to real-time mobility. This paper briefly introduces current approaches for seamless multicast extensions to Mobile IPv6. Key issues of multicast mobility are discussed. Both analytically and in simulations comparisons are drawn between handover performance characteristics, dedicating special focus on the M-HMIPv6 approach.
Delay and Delay Variation Constrained Algorithm based on VNS Algorithm for RP Management in Mobile IPv6
Multi-Access or Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) is being deployed by 4G/5G operators to provide computational services at lower latencies. Federating MECs across operators expands capability, capacity, and coverage but gives rise to two issues - third-party authentication and application mobility - for continuous service during roaming without re-authentication. In this work, we propose a Federated State transfer and 3rd-party Authentication (FS3A) mechanism that uses a transparent proxy to transfer the information of both authentication and application state across operators to resolve these issu…
Multi-Access Edge computing (MEC) and Fog computing provide services to subscribers at low latency. There is a need to form a federation among 3GPP MEC and fog to provide better coverage to 3GPP subscribers. This federation gives rise to two issues - third-party authentication and application mobility - for continuous service during handover from 3GPP MEC to fog without re-authentication. In this paper, we propose: 1) a proxy-based state transfer and third-party authentication (PS3A) that uses a transparent proxy to transfer the authentication and application state information, and 2) a token-…
The coded caching scheme originally proposed by Maddah-Ali and Niesen (MAN) transmits coded multicast messages from a server to users equipped with caches via a capacitated shared-link and was shown to be information theoretically optimal within a constant multiplicative factor. This work extends the MAN scheme to a class of two-hop wired-wireless networks including one server connected via fronthaul links to a layer of $H$ helper nodes (access points/base stations), which in turns communicate via a wireless access network to $K$ users, each equipped with its own cache. Two variants are consid…
The next generation Internet is deemed to be heterogeneous in nature and mobile devices connected to the Internet are expected to be equipped with different wireless network interfaces. As seamless mobility is important in such networks, handover between different network types, called vertical handover, is an important issue in such networks. While proposing standards like Mobile IPv6 (MIPv6) and Proxy Mobile IPv6 (PMIPv6) for mobility management protocols, one important challenge being addressed by IETF work groups and the research community is flow mobility in multi-homed heterogeneous wire…
The exponential growth of the number of multihomed mobile devices is changing the way how we can connect to the Internet. Our mobile devices are demanding for more network resources, in terms of traffic volume and QoS requirements. Unfortunately, it is very hard to a multihomed device to be simultaneously connected to the network through multiple links. The current work enhances the network access of multihomed devices agnostically to the deployed access technologies. This enhancement is achieved by using simultaneously all of the mobile devices interfaces, and by routing each individual data …
We envision future mobile networks to be human-centric supporting interest-aware delivery, where an interest maybe based on behavior, such as mobility pattern, location, or web browsing (or user profile) such as affiliation, attributes, or activity. An essential capability in future networks will be the ability to provide scalable group communication. Current communication paradigms, including unicast and multicast, require explicit identification of destination nodes (through node IDs or group membership protocols), while directory services translate logical, interest-specific queries into de…
