In this work, we investigate how entanglement between two massive quantum particles trapped in harmonic oscillator potentials is generated after they interact with propagating modes of the quantized gravitational field. Specifically, we consider only the entanglement arising from the coherent contribution of the gravitational field to investigate its causal structure. We employ the Feynman-Vernon influence functional approach, within which the contribution of the coherent gravitational field to entanglement generation can be traced to the commutation relation of the gravitational field. Our analysis shows that entanglement does not arise instantaneously after the interaction begins. Instead, there is a time delay proportional to the separation between the two particles before entanglement begins to develop. This result shows that the entanglement arising from the coherent contribution of the gravitational field exhibits a causal structure. The magnitude of the resulting entanglement is generally very small. However, when the initial quantum states of the two particles are prepared as separable squeezed states, the resulting entanglement can be enhanced, with the magnitude of the enhancement depending exponentially on the squeezing parameter.
The energy gap between the first excited state and the ground state is calculated for the quantized anharmonic oscillator in the framework of the functional renormalization group method. The compactly supported smooth regulator is used which includes various types of regulators as limiting cases. It was found that the value of the energy gap depends on the regulator parameters. We argue that the optimization based on the disappearance of the false, broken symmetric phase of the model leads to the Litim's regulator. The least sensitivity on the regulator parameters leads however to an IR regula…
In recent years, the import of quantum information techniques in quantum gravity opened new perspectives in the study of the microscopic structure of spacetime. We contribute to such a program by establishing a precise correspondence between the quantum information formalism of tensor networks (TN), in the case of projected entangled-pair states (PEPS) generalised to a second-quantized framework, and group field theory (GFT) states, and by showing how, in this quantum gravity approach, discrete spatial manifolds arise as entanglement patterns among quanta of space, having a dual representation…
The area dependence of entanglement entropy of a free scalar field is often understood in terms of coupled harmonic oscillators. In Schrodinger quantization, the Gaussian nature of ground state wave-function for these oscillators is sufficient to provide the exact form of the reduced density matrix and its eigenvalues, thus giving the entanglement entropy. However, in polymer quantization, the ground state is not Gaussian and the formalism which can provide the exact analytical form of the reduced density matrix is not yet known. In order to address this issue, here we treat the interaction be…
Motivated by quantum gravity, semi-classical theory, and quantum theory on curved spacetimes, we study the system of an oscillator coupled to two spin-1/2 particles. This model provides a prototype for comparing three types of dynamics: the full quantum theory, the classical oscillator with spin backreaction, and spins propagating on a fixed oscillator background. From nonperturbative calculations of oscillator and entanglement entropy dynamics, we find that entangled tripartite states produce novel oscillator trajectories, and that the three systems give equivalent dynamics for sufficiently w…
We formulate the second quantization of a charged scalar field in homogeneous, time-dependent electromagnetic fields, in which the Hamiltonian is an infinite system of decoupled, time-dependent oscillators for electric fields, but it is another infinite system of coupled, time-dependent oscillators for magnetic fields. We then employ the quantum invariant method to find various quantum states for the charged field. For time-dependent electric fields, a pair of quantum invariant operators for each oscillator with the given momentum plays the role of the time-dependent annihilation and the creat…
We study the quantum entanglement of coupled Pais-Uhlenbeck oscillators using the formalism of thermo-field dynamics. The entanglement entropy is computed for the specific cases of two and a ring of $N$ coupled Pais-Uhlenbeck oscillators of fourth order. It is shown that the entanglement entropy depends on the temperatures, frequencies and coupling parameters of the different degrees of freedom corresponding to harmonic oscillators. We also make remarks on the appearance of instabilities of higher-derivative oscillators in the context of AdS/CFT correspondence. Finally, we advert to the inform…
We study the entanglement entropy of harmonic oscillators in noncommutative phase space. We propose a new definition of quantum Rényi entropy based on Wigner functions in noncommutative phase space. Using the Rényi entropy, we calculate the entanglement entropy of the ground state of the 2D isotropic harmonic oscillators. We find that for some values of the noncommutative parameters, the harmonic oscillators can be entangled in noncommutative phase space. This is a new entanglement-like effect caused by the noncommutativity of the phase space.
We study the non-equilibrium dynamics of two coupled oscillators interacting with their own heat baths of quantum scalar fields at different temperature $T_1$ and $T_2$ with bilinear couplings between them. We particularly focus on the entanglement or inseparability property of their quantum states. The critical temperatures of two respective oscillators, $T_{1c}$ and $T_{2c}$, higher than which the entanglement disappears, can be determined. It is found that when two damping parameters are largely different, say $γ_1 \ll γ_2$, the critical temperature $T_{1c}$ with respect to the frequency $Ω…
Quantum entanglement, induced by spatial noncommutativity, is investigated for an anisotropic harmonic oscillator. Exact solutions for the system are obtained after the model is re-expressed in terms of canonical variables, by performing a particular Bopp's shift to the noncommuting degrees of freedom. Employing Simon's separability criterion, we find that the states of the system are entangled provided a unique function of the (mass and frequency) parameters obeys an inequality. Entanglement of Formation for this system is also computed and its relation to the degree of anisotropy is discusse…
We investigate the quantum entanglement of systems of coupled harmonic oscillators on the basis of thermo-field dynamics (TFD). For coupled harmonic oscillators at equilibrium, the extended entanglement entropy is derived using the TFD method, and it is demonstrated to be controlled by temperature and coupling parameters. For non-equilibrium systems, in addition to temperature and coupling parameters, the time dependence of the extended entanglement entropy is calculated in accordance with the dissipative von Neumann equation, and the dissipative dynamics of the systems of coupled harmonic osc…
In this work, we explore the effects of a quantum quench on the entanglement measures of a two-body coupled oscillator system having quartic interaction. We use the invariant operator method, under a perturbative framework, for computing the ground state of this system. We give the analytical expressions for the total and reduced density matrix of the system having non-Gaussian, quartic interaction terms. Using this reduced density matrix, we show the analytical calculation of two entanglement measures viz., Von Neumann entanglement entropy using replica trick and Renyi entanglement entropy. F…
We develop an approach in solving exactly the problem of three-body oscillators including general quadratic interactions in the coordinates for arbitrary masses and couplings. We introduce a unitary transformation of three independent angles to end up with a diagonalized Hamiltonian. Using the representation theory of the group $SU(3)$, we explicitly determine the solutions of the energy spectrum. Considering the ground state together with reduced density matrix, we derive the corresponding purity function that is giving rise to minimal and maximal entanglement under suitable conditions. The c…
We study the time evolution of the entanglement entropy in the short and long-range coupled harmonic oscillators that have well-defined continuum limit field theories. We first introduce a method to calculate the entanglement evolution in generic coupled harmonic oscillators after quantum quench. Then we study the entanglement evolution after quantum quench in harmonic systems that the couplings decay effectively as $1/r^{d+α}$ with the distance $r$. After quenching the mass from non-zero value to zero we calculate numerically the time evolution of von Neumann and Rényi entropies. We show that…
This is the second of a series of three papers examining how viable it is for entanglement to be sustained at high temperatures for quantum systems in thermal equilibrium (Case A), in nonequilibrium (Case B) and in nonequilibrium steady state conditions (Case C). The system we analyze here consists of two coupled quantum harmonic oscillators each interacting with its own bath described by a scalar field, set at temperatures $T_1 > T_2$. For \textit{constant bilinear inter-oscillator coupling} studied here (Case C1) owing to the Gaussian nature, the problem can be solved exactly at arbitrary te…
Composite structure of particles somewhat modifies their statistics, compared to the pure Bose- or Fermi-ones. The spin-statistics theorem, so, is not valid anymore. Say, $π$-mesons, excitons, Cooper pairs are not ideal bosons, and, likewise, baryons are not pure fermions. In our preceding papers, we studied bipartite composite boson (i.e. quasiboson) systems via a realization by deformed oscillators. Therein, the interconstituent entanglement characteristics such as entanglement entropy and purity were found in terms of the parameter of deformation. Herein, we perform an analogous study of co…
The bi-partite Gaussian state, corresponding to an anisotropic harmonic oscillator in a noncommutative-space, is investigated with the help of the Simon's separability condition (generalized Peres-Horodecki criterion). It turns out that, in order to exhibit the entanglement between the noncommutative co-ordinates, the parameters (mass and frequency) have to satisfy an unique constraint equation. Exact solutions for the system are obtained after diagonalizing the model, keeping the intrinsic symplectic structure intact. It is shown that, the identification of the entangled degrees of freedom is…
We study general entanglement properties of the excited states of the one dimensional translational invariant free fermions and coupled harmonic oscillators. In particular, using the integrals of motion, we prove that these Hamiltonians independent of the gap (mass) has infinite excited states that can be described by conformal field theories with integer or half-integer central charges. In the case of free fermions, we also show that because of the huge degeneracy in the spectrum, even a gapless Hamiltonian can have excited states with an area-law. Finally, we study the universal average enta…
The mathematical basis for the Gaussian entanglement is discussed in detail, as well as its implications in the internal space-time structure of relativistic extended particles. It is shown that the Gaussian entanglement shares the same set of mathematical formulas with the harmonic oscillator in the Lorentz-covariant world. It is thus possible to transfer the concept of entanglement to the Lorentz-covariant picture of the bound state which requires both space and time separations between two constituent particles. These space and time variables become entangled as the bound state moves with a…
