Quantum gates are the essential block for quantum computer. High-dimensional quantum gates exhibit remarkable advantages over their two-dimensional counterparts for some quantum information processing tasks. Here we present a family of entanglement-based optical controlled-SWAP gates on $\mathbb{C}^{2}\otimes \mathbb{C}^{d}\otimes \mathbb{C}^{d}$. With the hybrid encoding, we encode the control qubits and target qudits in photonic polarization and spatial degrees of freedom, respectively. The circuit is constructed using only $(2+3d)$ ($d\geq 2$) linear optics, beating an earlier result of 14 linear optics with $d=2$. The circuit depth 5 is much lower than an earlier result of 11 with $d=2$. Besides, the fidelity of the presented circuit can reach 99.4\%, and it is higher than the previous counterpart with $d=2$. Our scheme are constructed in a deterministic way without any borrowed ancillary photons or measurement-induced nonlinearities. Moreover, our approach allows $d>2$.
The ability to distribute high-quality entanglement between remote parties is a necessary primitive for many quantum communication applications. A large range of schemes for realizing the long-distance delivery of remote entanglement has been proposed, both for bipartite and multipartite entanglement. For assessing the viability of these schemes, knowledge of the time at which entanglement is delivered is crucial. Specifically, if the communication task requires multiple remote-entangled quantum states and these states are generated at different times by the scheme, the earlier states will nee…
Quantum transduction between microwave and optics can be realized by quantum teleportation if given reliable microwave-optical entanglement, namely entanglement-based quantum transduction. To realize this protocol, an entangled source with high-fidelity between the two frequencies is necessary. In this paper, we study the microwave and optical entanglement generation based on a generic cavity electro-optomechanical system in the strong coupling regime. Splittings are shown in the microwave and optical output spectra and the frequency entanglement between the two modes is quantified. We show th…
Quantum transduction refers to the coherent conversion between microwave and optical states, which can be achieved by quantum teleportation if given high fidelity microwave-optical entanglement, namely entanglement-based quantum transduction. Reliable microwave-optical entanglement can be generated using various platforms. In this paper, we base the discussion on piezo-optomechanical system and make the teleportation induced conversion scheme more concrete in the framework of quantum channel theory. By comparing the quantum capacity between the entanglement-based conversion channel and the tra…
We theoretically proposed one of the approaches achieving the quantum entanglement between light and microwave by means of electro-optic effect. Based on the established full quantum model of electro-optic interaction, the entanglement characteristics between light and microwave are studied by using the logarithmic negativity as a measure of the steady-state equilibrium operating point of the system. The investigation shows that the entanglement between light and microwave is a complicated function of multiple physical parameters, the parameters such as ambient temperature, optical detuning, m…
Entanglement, while being critical in many quantum applications, is difficult to characterize experimentally. While entanglement witnesses based on the fidelity to the target entangled state are efficient detectors of entanglement, they in general underestimate the amount of entanglement due to errors during state preparation and measurement. Therefore, to detect entanglement more robustly in the presence of such control errors, we introduce a 'subspace' witness that detects a broader class of entangled states with strictly larger violation than the conventional state-fidelity witness at the c…
In recent development of quantum technologies, a frequency conversion of quantum signals has been studied widely. We investigate the optic-microwave entanglement that is generated by applying an electro-optomechanical frequency conversion scheme to one mode in an optical two-mode squeezed vacuum state. We quantify entanglement of the converted two-mode Gaussian state, where surviving entanglement of the state is analyzed with respect to the parameters of the electro-optomechanical system. Furthermore, we show that there exists an upper bound for the entanglement that survives after the convers…
We propose a curious protocol for swapping the intra-photon entanglement between path and polarization degrees of freedom of a single photon to inter-photon entanglement between two spatially separated photons which have never interacted. This is accomplished by using an experimental setup consisting of three suitable Mach-Zehnder interferometers along with number of beam splitters, polarization rotators and detectors. Using the same setup, we have also demonstrated an interesting quantum state transfer protocol, symmetric between Alice and Bob. Importantly, the Bell-basis discrimination is no…
We study the potential of adaptive optics (AO) to protect entanglement of high-dimensional photonic orbital-angular-momentum (OAM) states against turbulence-induced phase distortions. We demonstrate that AO is able to reduce crosstalk among the OAM modes and, consequently, the entanglement decay as well as photon losses. A test of the AO-stabilized output state against high-dimensional Bell inequalities shows that the transmitted entanglement allows for secure communication, even in the strong scintillation regime.
The quantum nature of the state of a bosonic quantum field manifests itself in its entanglement, coherence, or optical nonclassicality which are each known to be resources for quantum computing or metrology. We provide quantitative and computable bounds relating entanglement measures with optical nonclassicality measures. These bounds imply that strongly entangled states must necessarily be strongly optically nonclassical. As an application, we infer strong bounds on the entanglement that can be produced with an optically nonclassical state impinging on a beam splitter. For Gaussian states, we…
It is widely accepted that quantum entanglement between otherwise independent sensors can yield a measurement precision beyond that achievable when the same resources are employed without entanglement \cite{Helstrom1969, Holevo1973a, Caves1980a, Caves1981, Wootters1981, Yurke1986, Wu1986, Xiao1987, Slusher1987, Shapiro1989, Wineland1992, Polzik1992, Kitagawa1993, Braunstein1994, Wineland1994, Sanders1995, Bollinger1996, Ou1997, Dowling1998,Soerensen1998, Brif1999, Childs2000, Fleischhauer2000, Meyer2001, Geremia2003, Giovannetti2004, Kok2004, Leibfried2004, Leibfried2005, Giovannetti2006, Naga…
We demonstrate, theoretically and experimentally, the generation of hexapartite modal entanglement by the optical parametric oscillator (OPO) operating above the oscillation threshold. We show that the OPO generates a rich structure of entanglement among sets of six optical sideband modes interacting through the non-linear crystal. The class of quantum states thus produced can be controlled by a single parameter, the power of the external laser that pumps the system. Our platform allows for the generation of massive entanglement among many optical modes with well defined but vastly different f…
Entanglement is an essential ingredient for building a quantum network that can have many applications. Understanding how entanglement is distributed in a network is a crucial step to move forward. Here we study the conservation and distribution of Gaussian entanglement in a linear network using a new quantifier for bipartite entanglement. We show that the entanglement can be distributed through a beam-splitter in the same way as the transmittance and the reflectance. The requirements on the entangled states and the type of networks to satisfy this relation are presented explicitly. Our result…
Implementations of many quantum communication protocols require sources of photon pairs. However, optimization of the properties of these photons for specific applications is an open problem. We theoretically demonstrate the possibility of extending the maximal distance of secure quantum communication when a photon pair source and standard fibers are used in a scenario where Alice and Bob do not share a global time reference. It is done by manipulating the spectral correlation within a photon pair and by optimizing chromatic dispersion in transmission links. Contrary to typical expectations, w…
Networking superconducting quantum computers is a longstanding challenge in quantum science. The typical approach has been to cascade transducers: converting to optical frequencies at the transmitter and to microwave frequencies at the receiver. However, the small microwave-optical coupling and added noise have proven formidable obstacles. Instead, we propose optical networking via heralding end-to-end entanglement with one detected photon and teleportation. In contrast to cascaded direct transduction, our scheme absorbs the low optical-microwave coupling efficiency into the heralding step, th…
The optical activity of a chiral medium is discussed from the view point of transfer of energy. The absorbed energy of the polarized light in the optical active medium is transferred to the mechanical rotation of the chiral molecule. They acquire the helicity dependent geometric phase due to passage of the polarized light which loses energy by having an optical rotation. The entanglement of a polarized photon and fermion is the very source of this behavior. This theoretical knowledge has been reflected in an experimental study with six essential and five non-essential amino acids.
We study entanglement dynamics in dispersive optomechanical systems consisting of two optical modes and a mechanical oscillator inside an optical cavity. The two optical modes interact with the mechanical oscillator, but not directly with each other. The appearance of optical entanglement witnesses non-classicality of the oscillator. We study the dependence of the entanglement dynamics with the optomechanical coupling, the mean photon number in the cavity and the oscillator temperature. An experimental realization with ultracold atomic ensembles is proposed.
We propose a method to enhance bipartite and tripartite entanglement in cavity magnomechanics using an optical parametric amplifier (OPA). We analyze this system and identified parametric regimes where different types of entanglement are enhanced. We show that a proper choice of the phase of the parametric amplifier leads to the enhancement of the bipartite entanglements. Moreover, the tripartite entanglement is also significantly enhanced in the presence of OPA. The OPA not only enhances the strength of entanglement but also increases the domain of entanglement over a wider space of detunings…
