In this paper, we establish the global well-posedness of the incompressible magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) system on $n-$dimensional $(n\geq 2)$ periodic boxes with either no magnetic diffusivity (non-resistive case) or no fluid viscosity (non-viscous case) under assumption that initial magnetic fields are sufficiently close to the background magnetic field ${\bf e}_n=(0,\cdots,0,1)$. In Eulerian coordinates, we develop novel time-weighted energy estimates and commutator estimates involving Riesz transforms in negative Sobolev spaces to handle two distinct dissipation cases under different initial symmetry assumptions. The analysis becomes much more difficult and delicate in three- or higher-dimensional cases. In particular, for the three-dimensional and non-resistive case, compared with the regularity requirement proposed by Pan, Zhou and Zhu {\it [Arch. Ration. Mech. Anal. 2018]}, our result relaxes it from $H^{11}(\mathbb{T}^3)$ to $H^{\frac{9}{2}+}(\mathbb{T}^3)$. And we further establish precise decay rates and growth bounds for both $u(t)$ and $\partial_n(u(t),b(t))$ in Sobolev norms. For the three-dimensional and non-viscous case, we prove the first nonlinear stability result near the background field $\mathbf{e}_3 = (0,0,1)$. This sharply contrasts with the recent blow-up results on the 3D incompressible Euler equations by Elgindi {\it [Ann. Math. 2021]}, Chen-Hou {\it [Commun. Math. Phys. 2021]} and by Chen-Hou {\it [arXiv:2210.07191]}. Our results show that, under certain symmetry assumptions, magnetic fields near the background field provide enhanced dissipations and suppress potential blow-up mechanisms in non-viscous MHD system.
In this paper, we consider the Cauchy problem for the one-dimensional compressible isentropic magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) equations with no vacuum at infinity, but the initial vacuum can be permitted inside the region. By deriving a priori $ν$ (resistivity coefficient)-independent estimates, we establish the non-resistive limit of the global strong solutions with large initial data. Moreover, as a by-product, the global well-posedness of strong solutions for both the compressible resistive MHD equations and non-resistive MHD equations are also established, respectively.
In the paper, we consider the Cauchy problem of the non-resistive MHD equations in homogeneous Besov spaces. We prove the local existence and uniqueness of the solution to the non-resistive MHD equations by using the iterative scheme and compactness arguments. Our obtained result improves considerably the recent results in \cite{C,W}.
Whether or not the solution to 2D resistive MHD equations is globally smooth remains open. This paper establishes the global regularity of solutions to the 2D almost resistive MHD equations, which require the dissipative operators $\mathcal{L}$ weaker than any power of the fractional Laplacian. The result is an improvement of the one of Fan et al. (Global Cauchy problem of 2D generalized MHD equations, Monatsh. Math., 175 (2014), pp. 127-131) which ask for $α>0, β=1$.
In this paper, we will show that solutions of the three-dimensional non-resistive and non-diffusive MHD-Boussinesq system are globally regular if the initial data is axisymmetric and the swirl components of the velocity and the magnetic vorticity are zero. Our main result extends previous ones on the three-dimensional non-resistive MHD system and non-diffusive Boussinesq system, and the method used here can also be applied to the magnetic Rayleigh-Bénard convection system.
The purpose of this paper is to study the incompressible non-resistive MHD equations in $\mathbb{R}^3$. We establish the global well-posedness of classical solutions if the initial data is axially symmetric and the swirl components of the velocity and magnetic vorticity vanish. In particular, the special axially symmetric initial data can be arbitrarily large and satisfy low regularity assumptions.
In this paper, we establish the continuous dependence for the non-resistive MHD equations in Sobolev spaces. Our obtained result fills considerably the recent result [C. Fefferman, D. McCormick, J. Robinson and J. Rodrigo, Higher order commutator estimates and local existence for the non-resistive MHD equations and related models, J. Funct. Anal. 267 (2014), 1035--1056] for the continuous dependence on initial data. We also show that this result is optimal. More precisely, we proved that the data-to-solution map is not uniform continuous dependence in Sobolev spaces.
In this paper, we prove the a priori estimates in Sobolev spaces for the free-boundary compressible inviscid magnetohydrodynamics equations with magnetic diffusion under the Rayleigh-Taylor physical sign condition. Our energy estimates are uniform in the sound speed. As a result, we can prove the convergence of solutions of the free-boundary compressible resistive MHD equations to the solution of the free-boundary incompressible resistive MHD equations, i.e., the incompressible limit. The key observation is that the magnetic diffusion together with elliptic estimates directly controls the Lore…
In this paper, we investigate the Cauchy problem of the compressible non-resistive MHD on $\mathbb{R}^2$ with vacuum as far field density. We prove that the 2D Cauchy problem has a unique local strong solution provided the initial density and magnetic field decay not too slow at infinity. Furthermore, if the initial data satisfies some additional regularity and compatibility conditions, the strong solution becomes a classical one. Additionally, we establish a blowup criterion for the 2D compressible non-resistive MHD depending solely on the density and magnetic fields.
In this paper, we investigate the Cauchy problem of the nonhomogeneous incompressible non-resistive MHD on $\mathbb{R}^2$ with vacuum as far field density and prove that the 2D Cauchy problem has a unique local strong solution provided that the initial density and magnetic field decay not too slow at infinity. Furthermore, if the initial data satisfy some additional regularity and compatibility conditions, the strong solution becomes a classical one.
This paper establishes the local-in-time existence and uniqueness of strong solutions in $H^{s}$ for $s > n/2$ to the viscous, non-resistive magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) equations in $\mathbb{R}^{n}$, $n=2, 3$, as well as for a related model where the advection terms are removed from the velocity equation. The uniform bounds required for proving existence are established by means of a new estimate, which is a partial generalisation of the commutator estimate of Kato & Ponce (Comm. Pure Appl. Math. 41(7), 891-907, 1988).
In this paper, we prove the global well-posedness for the three-dimensional magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) equations with zero viscosity and axisymmetric initial data. First, we analyze the problem corresponding to the Sobolev regularities $ H^s\times H^{s-2}$, with $ s>5/2$. Second, we address the same problem but for the Besov critical regularities $ B_{p,1}^{3/p+1}\times B_{1,p}^{3/p-1}$, $2\leq p\leq \infty$. This case turns out to be more subtle as the Beale-Kato-Majda criterion is not known to be valid for rough regularities.
In this paper, we consider a two-dimensional non-resistive magnetohydrodynamic model, taking the fluctuation of absolute temperature into account. Combining the method of weak convergence developed by Lions [20], Feireisl et al. [7, 8] from compressible Navier-Stokes(- Fourier) system and the new technique of variable reduction proposed by Vasseur et al. [26] and refined by Novotny et al. [22] from compressible two-fluid models, weak solutions are shown to exist globally in time with finite energy initial data. The result is the first one on global solvability to full compressible, viscous, no…
In general, the resistivity is inversely proportional to the electrical conductivity, and is usually taken to be zero when the conducting fluid is of extremely high conductivity (e.g., ideal conductors). In this paper, we first establish the global well-posedness of strong solution to an initial-boundary value problem of the one-dimensional compressible, viscous, heat-conductive, non-resistive MHD equations with general heat-conductivity coefficient and large data. Then, the non-resistive limit is justified and the convergence rates are obtained, provided the heat-conductivity satisfies some g…
In this paper, we consider the three-dimensional full compressible viscous non-resistive MHD system. Global well-posedness is proved for an initial-boundary value problem around a strong background magnetic field. It is also shown that the unique solution converges to the steady state at an almost exponential rate as time tends to infinity. The proof is based on the celebrated two-tier energy method, due to Guo and Tice [\emph{Arch. Ration. Mech. Anal.}, 207 (2013), pp. 459--531; \emph{Anal. PDE.}, 6 (2013), pp. 287--369], reformulated in Lagrangian coordinates. The obtained result may be view…
This paper establishes the local-in-time existence and uniqueness of solutions to the viscous, non-resistive magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) equations in $\mathbb{R}^d$, $d=2,3$, with initial data $B_0\in H^s(\mathbb{R}^d)$ and $u_0\in H^{s-1+\varepsilon}(\mathbb{R}^d)$ for $s>d/2$ and any $0<\varepsilon<1$. The proof relies on maximal regularity estimates for the Stokes equation. The obstruction to taking $\varepsilon=0$ is explained by the failure of solutions of the heat equation with initial data $u_0\in H^{s-1}$ to satisfy $u\in L^1(0,T;H^{s+1})$; we provide an explicit example of this phenome…
We address the analyticity and large time decay rates for strong solutions of the Hall-MHD equations. By Gevrey estimates, we show that the strong solution with small initial date in $H^r(\mathbb{R}^3)$ with $r>\f 52$ becomes analytic immediately after $t>0$, and the radius of analyticity will grow like $\sqrt{t}$ in time. Upper and lower bounds on the decay of higher order derivatives are also obtained, which extends the previous work by Chae and Schonbek (J. Differential Equations 255 (2013), 3971--3982).
In this paper, we provide a much simplified proof of the main result in [Lin, Xu, Zhang, arXiv:1302.5877] concerning the global existence and uniqueness of smooth solutions to the Cauchy problem for a 2D incompressible viscous and non-resistive MHD system under the assumption that the initial data are close to some equilibrium states. Beside the classical energy method, the interpolating inequalities and the algebraic structure of the equations coming from the incompressibility of the fluid are crucial in our arguments. We combine the energy estimates with the $L^\infty$ estimates for time sli…
This paper solves the global well-posedness and stability problem on a special $2\frac12$-D compressible viscous non-resistive MHD system near a steady-state solution. The steady-state here consists of a positive constant density and a background magnetic field. The global solution is constructed in $L^p$-based homogeneous Besov spaces, which allow general and highly oscillating initial velocity. The well-posedness problem studied here is extremely challenging due to the lack of the magnetic diffusion, and remains open for the corresponding 3D MHD equations. Our approach exploits the enhanced …
We are concerned with the uniform regularity estimates of solutions to the two dimensional compressible non-resistive magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) equations with the no-slip boundary condition on velocity in the half plane. Under the assumption that the initial magnetic field is transverse to the boundary, the uniform conormal energy estimates are established for the solutions to compressible MHD equations with respect to small viscosity coefficients. As a direct consequence, we proved the inviscid limit of solutions from viscous MHD systems to the ideal MHD systems in $L^\infty$ sense. It shows…
In this paper, we mainly investigate the Cauchy problem of the non-resistive MHD equation. We first establish the local existence in the homogeneous Besov space $\dot{B}^{\frac{d}{p}-1}_{p,1}\times \dot{B}^{\frac{d}{p}}_{p,1}$ with $p<\infty$, and give a lifespan $T$ of the solution which depends on the norm of the Littlewood-Paley decomposition of the initial data. Then, we prove that if the initial data $(u^n_0,b^n_0)\rightarrow (u_0,b_0)$ in $\dot{B}^{\frac{d}{p}-1}_{p,1}\times \dot{B}^{\frac{d}{p}}_{p,1}$, then the corresponding existence times $T_n\rightarrow T$, which implies that they h…
In this paper, we address the space-time decay properties for strong solutions to the incompressible viscous resistive Hall-MHD equations. We obtained the same space-time decay rates as those of the heat equation. Based on the temporal decay results in \cite{cs}, we find that one can obtain weighted estimates of the magnetic field $B$ by direct weighted energy estimate, and then by regarding the magnetic convection term as a forcing term in the velocity equations, we can obtain the weighted estimates for the vorticity, which yields the corresponding estimates for the velocity field. The higher…
In this paper we prove the existence of solutions to the viscous, non-resistive magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) equations on the whole of $\mathbb{R}^{n}$, $n=2,3$, for divergence-free initial data in certain Besov spaces, namely $\boldsymbol{u}_{0} \in B^{n/2-1}_{2,1}$ and $\boldsymbol{B}_{0} \in B^{n/2}_{2,1}$. The a priori estimates include the term $\int_{0}^{t} \| \boldsymbol{u}(s) \|_{H^{n/2}}^{2} \, \mathrm{d} s$ on the right-hand side, which thus requires an auxiliary bound in $H^{n/2-1}$. In 2D, this is simply achieved using the standard energy inequality; but in 3D an auxiliary estimate i…
We consider the dynamics of a layer of an incompressible electrically conducting fluid interacting with the magnetic field in a two-dimensional horizontally periodic setting. The upper boundary is in contact with the atmosphere, and the lower boundary is a rigid flat bottom. We prove the global well-posedness of the inviscid and resistive problem with surface tension around a non-horizontal uniform magnetic field; moreover, the solution decays to the equilibrium almost exponentially. One of the key observations here is an induced damping structure for the fluid vorticity due to the resistivity…
We study by a combination of analytical and numerical Evans function techniques multi-D viscous and inviscid stability and associated transverse bifurcation of planar slow Lax MHD shocks in a channel with periodic boundary conditions. Notably, this includes the first multi-D numerical Evans function study for viscous MHD. Our results suggest that, rather than a planar shock, a nonplanar traveling wave with the same normal velocity is the typical mode of propagation in the slow Lax mode. Moreover, viscous and inviscid stability transitions appear to agree, answering (for this particular model a…
The current paper establishes the global well-posedness issue for the full viscous MHD equations in the axisymmetric setting. Global solutions are obtained in critical Besov spaces uniformly to the viscosity when the resistivity is fixed in the spirit of \cite{AKH,Hassainia,hz0}. Furthermore, strong convergence in the resolution spaces with a rate of convergence is also studied.
This paper is concerned with the asymptotic behaviors of global strong solutions to the incompressible non-resistive viscous magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) equations with large initial perturbations in two-dimensional periodic domains in Lagrangian coordinates. First, motivated by the odevity conditions imposed in [Arch. Ration. Mech. Anal. 227 (2018), 637--662], we prove the existence and uniqueness of strong solutions under some class of large initial perturbations, where the strength of impressive magnetic fields depends increasingly on the $H^2$-norm of the initial perturbation values of both v…
In this paper, we study the energy equality for weak solutions to the non-resistive MHD equations with physical boundaries. Although the equations of magnetic field $b$ are of hyperbolic type, and the boundary effects are considered, we still prove the global energy equality provided that $ u \in L^{q}_{loc}\left(0, T ; L^{p}(Ω)\right) \text { for any } \frac{1}{q}+\frac{1}{p} \leq \frac{1}{2}, \text { with } p \geq 4,\text{ and } b \in L^{r}_{loc}\left(0, T ; L^{s}(Ω)\right) \text { for any } \frac{1}{r}+\frac{1}{s} \leq \frac{1}{2}, \text { with } s \geq 4 $. In particular, compared with the…
In this paper, we study the global existence of classical solutions to the three dimensional incompressible viscous magneto-hydrodynamical system without magnetic diffusion on periodic boxes, i.e., with periodic boundary conditions. We work in Eulerian coordinate and employ a time-weighted energy estimate to prove the global existence result, under the assumptions that the initial magnetic field is close enough to an equilibrium state and the initial data have some symmetries.
This paper focuses on the 2D compressible magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) equations without magnetic diffusion in a periodic domain. We present a systematic approach to establishing the global existence of smooth solutions when the initial data is close to a background magnetic field. In addition, stability and large-time decay rates are also obtained. When there is no magnetic diffusion, the magnetic field and the density are governed by forced transport equations and the problem considered here is difficult. This paper implements several key observations and ideas to maximize the enhanced dissipat…
We consider a two-dimensional MHD model describing the evolution of viscous, compressible and electrically conducting fluids under the action of vertical magnetic field without resistivity. Existence of global weak solutions is established for any adiabatic exponent γ>1. Inspired by the approximate scheme proposed in [15], we consider a two-level approximate system with artificial diffusion and pressure term. At the first level, we prove global well-posedness of the regularized system and establish uniform-in-εestimates to the regular solutions. At the second level, we show global existence of…
In this paper, we consider the Cauchy problem to the planar non-resistive magnetohydrodynamic equations without heat conductivity, and establish the global well-posedness of strong solutions with large initial data. The key ingredient of the proof is to establish the a priori estimates on the effective viscous flux and a newly introduced "transverse effective viscous flux" vector field inducted by the transverse magnetic field. The initial density is assumed only to be uniformly bounded and of finite mass and, in particular, the vacuum and discontinuities of the density are allowed.
Extending our previous results for artificial viscosity systems, we show, under suitable spectral hypotheses, that shock wave solutions of compressible Navier--Stokes (cNS) and magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) equations undergo Hopf bifurcation to nearby time-periodic solutions. The main new difficulty associated with physical viscosity and the corresponding absence of parabolic smoothing is the need to show that the difference between nonlinear and linearized solution operators is quadratically small in $H^s$ for data in $H^s$. We accomplish this by a novel energy estimate carried out in Lagrangian…
In this paper, we consider a layer of a viscous incompressible electrically conducting fluid interacting with the magnetic filed in a horizontally periodic setting. The upper boundary bounded by a free boundary and below bounded by a flat rigid interface. We prove the global well-posedness of the problem for both the case with and without surface tension. Moreover, we show that the global solution decays to the equilibrium exponentially in the case with surface tension, however the global solution decays to the equilibrium at an almost exponential rate in the case without surface tension.
This paper concerns the viscous and non-resistive MHD systems which govern the motion of electrically conducting fluids interacting with magnetic fields. We consider an initial-boundary value problem for both compressible and (nonhomogeneous and homogeneous) incompressible fluids in an infinite flat layer. We prove the global well-posedness of the systems around a uniform magnetic field which is vertical to the layer. Moreover, the solution converges to the steady state at an almost exponential rate as time goes to infinity. Our proof relies on a two-tier energy method for the reformulated sys…
In this paper, we prove a blow-up criterion in terms of the magnetic field $H$ and the mass density $ρ$ for the strong solutions to the $3$D compressible isentropic MHD equations with zero magnetic diffusion and initial vacuum. More precisely, we show that the $L^\infty$ norms of $(H,ρ)$ control the possible blow-up (see \cite{olga}\cite{zx}) for strong solutions, which means that if a solution of the compressible isentropic non-resistive MHD equations is initially smooth and loses its regularity at some later time, then the formation of singularity must be caused by losing the bound of the $L…
We prove the non-uniqueness of weak solutions to 3D hyper viscous and resistive MHD in the class $L^γ_tW^{s,p}_x$, where the exponents $(s,γ,p)$ lie in two supercritical regimes. The result reveals that the scaling-invariant Ladyženskaja-Prodi-Serrin (LPS) condition is the right criterion to detect non-uniqueness, even in the highly viscous and resistive regime beyond the Lions exponent. In particular, for the classical viscous and resistive MHD, the non-uniqueness is sharp near the endpoint $(0,2,\infty)$ of the LPS condition. Moreover, the constructed weak solutions admit the partial regular…
Extending our previous work in the strictly parabolic case, we show that a linearly unstable Lax-type viscous shock solution of a general quasilinear hyperbolic--parabolic system of conservation laws possesses a translation-invariant center stable manifold within which it is nonlinearly orbitally stable with respect to small $L^1\cap H^3$ perturbations, converging time-asymptotically to a translate of the unperturbed wave. That is, for a shock with $p$ unstable eigenvalues, we establish conditional stability on a codimension-$p$ manifold of initial data, with sharp rates of decay in all $L^p$.…
Global small-time approximate null and Lagrangian controllability of the viscous non-resistive MHD system in a $3D$ domain with Navier type boundary conditions
