We consider metric measure spaces $(X,\mathsf{d},\mathscr{H}^N)$ satisfying the properties (ETR), (LBD), and with an almost everywhere connected regular set. In particular, these assumptions are fulfilled by non-collapsed RCD$(K,N)$ spaces without boundary, as well as by non-collapsed strong Kato limit spaces without boundary. For both classes, we study orientability in the sense of metric currents, establish stability of orientation under pointed Gromov--Hausdorff convergence, and show that the pointed Gromov--Hausdorff limit coincides with the local flat limit.
We establish topological regularity and stability of N-dimensional RCD(K,N) spaces (up to a small singular set), also called non-collapsed RCD(K,N) in the literature. We also introduce the notion of a boundary of such spaces and study its properties, including its behavior under Gromov-Hausdorff convergence.
In this short note we provide several conjectures on the regularity of measured Gromov-Hausdorff limit spaces of Riemannian manifolds with Ricci curvature bounded below, from the point of view of the synthetic treatment of lower bounds on Ricci curvature for metric measure spaces.
The volume entropy of a compact metric measure space is known to be the exponential growth rate of the measure lifted to its universal cover at infinity. For a compact Riemannian $n$-manifold with a negative lower Ricci curvature bound and a upper diameter bound, it was known that it admits an almost maximal volume entropy if and only if it is diffeomorphic and Gromov-Hausdorff close to a hyperbolic space form. We prove the quantitative rigidity of almost maximal volume entropy for $\operatorname{RCD}$-spaces with a negative lower Ricci curvature bound and Riemannian manifolds with a negative …
In this paper we study the family of embeddings $Φ_t$ of a compact $RCD^*(K,N)$ space $(X,d,m)$ into $L^2(X,m)$ via eigenmaps. Extending part of the classical results by Bérard, Bérard-Besson-Gallot, known for closed Riemannian manifolds, we prove convergence as $t\downarrow 0$ of the rescaled pull-back metrics $Φ_t^*g_{L^2}$ in $L^2(X,m)$ induced by $Φ_t$. Moreover we discuss the behavior of $Φ_t^*g_{L^2}$ with respect to measured Gromov-Hausdorff convergence and $t$. Applications include the quantitative $L^p$-convergence in the noncollapsed setting for all $p<\infty$, a result new even for …
Inspired by a recent work of Wang-Zhao, in this note we prove that for a fixed $n$-dimensional closed Riemannian manifold $(M^n, g)$, if an $\mathrm{RCD}(K, n)$ space $(X, \mathsf{d}, \mathfrak{m})$ is Gromov-Hausdorff close to $M^n$, then there exists a regular homeomorphism $F$ from $X$ to $M^n$ such that $F$ is Lipschitz continuous and that $F^{-1}$ is Hölder continuous, where the Lipschitz constant of $F$, the Hölder exponent and the Hölder constant of $F^{-1}$ can be chosen arbitrary close to $1$. This is sharp in the sense that in general such a map cannot be improved to being bi-Lipschi…
We prove an upper bound on the rank of the abelianised revised fundamental group (called "revised first Betti number") of a compact $RCD^{*}(K,N)$ space, in the same spirit of the celebrated Gromov-Gallot upper bound on the first Betti number for a smooth compact Riemannian manifold with Ricci curvature bounded below. When the synthetic lower Ricci bound is close enough to (negative) zero and the aforementioned upper bound on the revised first Betti number is saturated (i.e. equal to the integer part of $N$, denoted by $\lfloor N \rfloor$), then we establish a torus stability result stating th…
Gromov hyperbolic spaces have become an essential concept in geometry, topology and group theory. Here we extend Ancona's potential theory on Gromov hyperbolic manifolds and graphs of bounded geometry to a large class of Schrödinger operators on Gromov hyperbolic metric measure spaces, unifying these settings in a common framework ready for applications to singular spaces such as RCD spaces or minimal hypersurfaces. Results include boundary Harnack inequalities and a complete classification of positive harmonic functions in terms of the Martin boundary which is identified with the geometric Gr…
We prove pointwise and $L^{p}$-gradient comparison results for solutions to elliptic Dirichlet problems defined on open subsets of a (possibly non-smooth) space with positive Ricci curvature (more precisely of an $\mathrm{RCD}(K,N)$ metric measure space, with $K>0$ and $N\in (1,\infty)$). The obtained Talenti-type comparison is sharp, rigid and stable with respect to $L^{2}$/measured-Gromov-Hausdorff topology; moreover, several aspects seem new even for smooth Riemannian manifolds. As applications of such Talenti-type comparison, we prove a series of improved Sobolev-type inequalities, and an …
We prove that a compact stratied space satises the Riemannian curvature-dimension condition RCD(K, N) if and only if its Ricci tensor is bounded below by K $\in$ R on the regular set, the cone angle along the stratum of codimension two is smaller than or equal to 2$π$ and its dimension is at most equal to N. This gives a new wide class of geometric examples of metric measure spaces satisfying the RCD(K, N) curvature-dimension condition, including for instance spherical suspensions, orbifolds, K{ä}hler-Einstein manifolds with a divisor, Einstein manifolds with conical singularities along a curv…
We prove that if $M$ is a closed $n$-dimensional Riemannian manifold, $n \ge 3$, with ${\rm Ric}\ge n-1$ and for which the optimal constant in the critical Sobolev inequality equals the one of the $n$-dimensional sphere $\mathbb{S}^n$, then $M$ is isometric to $\mathbb{S}^n$. An almost-rigidity result is also established, saying that if equality is almost achieved, then $M$ is close in the measure Gromov-Hausdorff sense to a spherical suspension. These statements are obtained in the ${\rm RCD}$-setting of (possibly non-smooth) metric measure spaces satisfying synthetic lower Ricci curvature bo…
With $(X,\mathfrak{d},\mathfrak{m})$ an $\mathrm{RCD}^*(K,N)$ space for some $K\in\mathbf{R}$, $N\in [1,\infty)$, let $H$ be the self-adjoint Laplacian induced by the underlying Cheeger form. Given $α\in [0,1]$ we introduce the $α$-Kato class of potentials on $(X,\mathfrak{d},\mathfrak{m})$, and given a potential $V:X\to \mathbf{R}$ in this class, with $H_V$ the natural self-adjoint realization of the Schrödinger operator $H+V$ in $L^2(X,\mathfrak{m})$, we use Brownian coupling methods and perturbation theory to prove that for all $t>0$ there exists an explicitly given constant $A(V,K,α,t)<\in…

In \cite{CC1}, Cheeger-Colding considered manifolds with lower Ricci curvature bound and gave some almost rigidity results about warped products including almost metric cone rigidity and quantitative splitting theorem. As a generalization of manifolds with lower Ricci curvature bound, for metric measure spaces in $RCD(K, N)$, $1<N<\infty$, splitting theorem \cite{Gi13} and "volume cone implies metric cone" rigidity for balls and annuluses of a point \cite{PG} have been proved. In this paper we will generalize Cheeger-Colding's \cite{CC1} result about "almost volume cone implies almost metric c…
We establish a structure theorem for minimizing sequences for the isoperimetric problem on noncompact $\mathsf{RCD}(K,N)$ spaces $(X,\mathsf{d},\mathcal{H}^N)$. Under the sole (necessary) assumption that the measure of unit balls is uniformly bounded away from zero, we prove that the limit of such a sequence is identified by a finite collection of isoperimetric regions possibly contained in pointed Gromov--Hausdorff limits of the ambient space $X$ along diverging sequences of points. The number of such regions is bounded linearly in terms of the measure of the minimizing sequence. The result f…

Aim of this paper is to discuss convergence of pointed metric measure spaces in absence of any compactness condition. We propose various definitions, show that all of them are equivalent and that for doubling spaces these are also equivalent to the well known measured-Gromov-Hausdorff convergence. Then we show that the curvature conditions $CD(K,\infty)$ and $RCD(K,\infty)$ are stable under this notion of convergence and that the heat flow passes to the limit as well, both in the Wasserstein and in the $L^2$-framework. We also prove the variational convergence of Cheeger energies in the natura…
We prove that for a suitable class of metric measure spaces, the abstract notion of tangent module as defined by the first author can be isometrically identified with the space of $L^2$-sections of the `Gromov-Hausdorff tangent bundle'. The class of spaces $({\rm X},{\sf d},{\mathfrak m})$ we consider are PI spaces that for every $\varepsilon>0$ admit a countable collection of Borel sets $(U_i)$ covering ${\mathfrak m}$-a.e.\ ${\rm X}$ and corresponding $(1+\varepsilon)$-biLipschitz maps $φ_i:U_i\to{\mathbb R}^{k_i}$ such that $(φ_i)_*{\mathfrak m}\lower3pt\hbox{$|_{U_i}$}\ll\mathcal L^{k_i}$.…
In this article we study stability and compactness w.r.t. measured Gromov-Hausdorff convergence of smooth metric measure spaces with integral Ricci curvature bounds. More precisely, we prove that a sequence of $n$-dimensional Riemannian manifolds subconverges to a metric measure space that satisfies the curvature-dimension condition $CD(K,n)$ in the sense of Lott-Sturm-Villani provided the $L^p$-norm for $p>\frac{n}{2}$ of the part of the Ricci curvature that lies below $K$ converges to $0$. The results also hold for sequences of general smooth metric measure spaces $(M,g_M, e^{-f}\mbox{vol}_M…
The goal of the paper is four-fold. In the setting of non-smooth spaces with Ricci curvature lower bounds (more precisely RCD(K,N) metric measure spaces): - we develop an intrinsic theory of Laplacian bounds in viscosity sense and in a pointwise, heat flow related, sense, showing their equivalence also with Laplacian bounds in distributional sense; - relying on these tools, we establish a PDE principle relating lower Ricci curvature bounds to the preservation of Laplacian lower bounds under the evolution via the $p$-Hopf-Lax semigroup, for general exponents $p\in[1,\infty)$. This principle adm…
This paper studies the structure and stability of boundaries in noncollapsed $\text{RCD}(K,N)$ spaces, that is, metric-measure spaces $(X,\mathsf{d},\mathscr{H}^N)$ with lower Ricci curvature bounded below. Our main structural result is that the boundary $\partial X$ is homeomorphic to a manifold away from a set of codimension 2, and is $N-1$ rectifiable. Along the way we show effective measure bounds on the boundary and its tubular neighborhoods. These results are new even for Gromov-Hausdorff limits $(M_i^N,\mathsf{d}_{g_i},p_i) \rightarrow (X,\mathsf{d},p)$ of smooth manifolds with boundary…
We study decreasing rearrangements of functions defined on (possibly non-smooth) metric measure spaces with Ricci curvature bounded below by $K>0$ and dimension bounded above by $N\in (1,\infty)$ in a synthetic sense, the so called $CD(K,N)$ spaces. We first establish a Polya-Szego type inequality stating that the $W^{1,p}$-Sobolev norm decreases under such a rearrangement and apply the result to show sharp spectral gap for the $p$-Laplace operator with Dirichlet boundary conditions (on open subsets), for every $p\in (1,\infty)$. This extends to the non-smooth setting a classical result of Bér…
The aim of this paper is to provide new stability results for sequences of metric measure spaces $(X_i,d_i,m_i)$ convergent in the measured Gromov-Hausdorff sense. By adopting the so-called extrinsic approach of embedding all metric spaces into a common one $(X,d)$, we extend the results of Gigli-Mondino-Savaré by providing Mosco convergence of Cheeger's energies and compactness theorems in the whole range of Sobolev spaces $H^{1,p}$, including the space $BV$, and even with a variable exponent $p_i\in [1,\infty]$. In addition, building on the results of Ambrosio-Stra-Trevisan, we provide local…
In this paper we introduce a synthetic notion of Riemannian Ricci bounds from below for metric measure spaces (X,d,m) which is stable under measured Gromov-Hausdorff convergence and rules out Finsler geometries. It can be given in terms of an enforcement of the Lott, Sturm and Villani geodesic convexity condition for the entropy coupled with the linearity of the heat flow. Besides stability, it enjoys the same tensorization, global-to-local and local-to-global properties. In these spaces, that we call RCD(K,\infty) spaces, we prove that the heat flow (which can be equivalently characterized ei…
