This paper studies the structure and stability of boundaries in noncollapsed $\text{RCD}(K,N)$ spaces, that is, metric-measure spaces $(X,\mathsf{d},\mathscr{H}^N)$ with lower Ricci curvature bounded below. Our main structural result is that the boundary $\partial X$ is homeomorphic to a manifold away from a set of codimension 2, and is $N-1$ rectifiable. Along the way we show effective measure bounds on the boundary and its tubular neighborhoods. These results are new even for Gromov-Hausdorff limits $(M_i^N,\mathsf{d}_{g_i},p_i) \rightarrow (X,\mathsf{d},p)$ of smooth manifolds with boundary, and require new techniques beyond those needed to prove the analogous statements for the regular set, in particular when it comes to the manifold structure of the boundary $\partial X$.
The key local result is an $ε$-regularity theorem, which tells us that if a ball $B_{2}(p)\subset X$ is sufficiently close to a half space $B_{2}(0)\subset \mathbb{R}^N_+$ in the Gromov-Hausdorff sense, then $B_1(p)$ is biHölder to an open set of $\mathbb{R}^N_+$. In particular, $\partial X$ is itself homeomorphic to $B_1(0^{N-1})$ near $B_1(p)$. Further, the boundary $\partial X$ is $N-1$ rectifiable and the boundary measure $\mathscr{H}^{N-1}_{\partial X}$ is Ahlfors regular on $B_1(p)$ with volume close to the Euclidean volume.
Our second collection of results involve the stability of the boundary with respect to noncollapsed mGH convergence $X_i\to X$. Specifically, we show a boundary volume convergence which tells us that the $N-1$ Hausdorff measures on the boundaries converge $\mathscr{H}^{N-1}_{\partial X_i}\to \mathscr{H}^{N-1}_{\partial X}$ to the limit Hausdorff measure on $\partial X$. We will see that a consequence of this is that if the $X_i$ are boundary free then so is $X$.
In this short note we announce a regularity theorem for Kähler-Ricci flow on a compact Fano manifold (Kähler manifold with positive first Chern class) and its application to the limiting behavior of Kähler-Ricci flow on Fano 3-manifolds. Moreover, we also present a partial $C^0$ estimate to the Kähler-Ricci flow under the regularity assumption, which extends previous works on Kähler-Einstein metrics and shrinking Kähler-Ricci solitons (cf. \cite{Ti90}, \cite{DoSu12}, \cite{Ti12}, \cite{PSS12}). The detailed proof will appear in \cite{TiZh13}.
Ge-Jiang (Geom Funct Anal 27:1231-1256, 2017) proved global $\varepsilon$-regularity for 4-dimensional Ricci flow with bounded scalar curvature. In this note, we extend this result to 4-dimensional Ricci flow with integral bound on the scalar curvature.
In this short note we review some known results on the structure and regularity of spaces with lower Ricci curvature bounds. We present some known and new open questions about next steps.
In this paper, we will establish a regularity theory for the Kähler-Ricci flow on Fano $n$-manifolds with Ricci curvature bounded in $L^p$-norm for some $p > n$. Using this regularity theory, we will also solve a long-standing conjecture for dimension 3. As an application, we give a new proof of the Yau-Tian-Donaldson conjecture for Fano 3-manifolds. The results have been announced in \cite{TiZh12b}.
A closed four dimensional manifold cannot possess a non-flat Ricci soliton metric with arbitrarily small $L^2$-norm of the curvature. In this paper, we localize this fact in the case of shrinking Ricci solitons by proving an $\varepsilon$-regularity theorem, thus confirming a conjecture of Cheeger-Tian. As applications, we will also derive structural results concerning the degeneration of the metrics on a family of complete non-compact four dimensional shrinking Ricci solitons without a uniform entropy lower bound. In the appendix, we provide a detailed account of the equivariant good chopping…
In [Cheeger-Tian 2005], Cheeger-Tian proved an $ε$-regularity theorem for $4$-dimensional Einstein manifolds without volume assumption. They conjectured that similar results should hold for critical metrics with constant scalar curvature, shrinking Ricci solitons, Ricci flows in $4$-dimensional manifolds and higher dimensional Einstein manifolds. In this paper we consider all these problems. First, we construct counterexamples to the conjecture for $4$-dimensional critical metrics and counterexamples to the conjecture for higher dimensional Einstein manifolds. For $4$-dimensional shrinking Ric…
Assuming a lower bound on the Ricci curvature of a complete Riemannian manifold, for $p< 1/2$ we show the existence of bounds on the local $L^p$ norm of the Ricci curvature that depend only on the dimension and which improve with volume collapse.
We survey some recent developments in the study of collapsing Riemannian manifolds with Ricci curvature bounded below, especially the locally bounded Ricci covering geometry and the Ricci flow smoothing techniques. We then prove that if a Calabi-Yau manifold is sufficiently volume collapsed with bounded diameter and sectional curvature, then it admits a Ricci-flat Kähler metrictogether with a compatible pure nilpotent Killing structure: this is related to an open question of Cheeger, Fukaya and Gromov.
We construct a global homeomorphism from any 3D Ricci limit space to a smooth manifold, that is locally bi-Holder. This extends the recent work of Miles Simon and the second author, and we build upon their techniques. A key step in our proof is the construction of local "pyramid Ricci flows", existing on uniform regions of spacetime, that are inspired by Hochard's partial Ricci flows.
We prove that for any complete three-manifold with a lower Ricci curvature bound and a lower bound on the volume of balls of radius one, a solution to the Ricci flow exists for short time. Actually our proof also yields a (non-canonical) way to flow and regularize some interior region of a non-complete initial data satisfying the aformentioned bounds.
We prove a Lipschitz-Volume rigidity theorem for the non-collapsed Gromov-Hausdorff limits of manifolds with Ricci curvature bounded from below. This is a counterpart of the Lipschitz-Volume rigidity in Alexandrov geometry.
We consider Type I Ricci flows and obtain integral estimates for the curvature tensor valid up to, and including, the singular time. Our estimates partially extend to higher dimensions a curvature estimate recently shown to hold in dimension three by Kleiner and Lott. To do this we adapt the technique of quantitative stratification, introduced by Cheeger and Naber, to this setting.
We propose a new approach to the study of compact Riemannian manifolds with nonnegative Ricci curvature and strictly convex boundary or positive Ricci curvature and convex boundary. Several conjectures are formulated. Some partial results that support these conjectures are established.
We prove that complete Riemannian manifolds with polynomial growth and Ricci curvature bounded from below, admit uniform Poincaré inequalities. A global, uniform Poincaré inequality for horospheres in the universal cover of a closed, $n$-dimensional Riemannian manifold with pinched negative sectional curvature follows as a corollary.
We consider the problem of when a smooth Ricci flow, for positive time, that attains smooth initial data in a weak sense must be smooth down to the initial time. We obtain curvature estimates for an example where this fails. We prove a positive result in the case that the flow satisfies a lower IC1 curvature bound, equivalent to a lower Ricci bound in three dimensions. As an application, we prove that Gromov-Hausdorff limits of WPIC1 manifolds are WPIC1.
We show that a simply-connected closed four-dimensional Ricci flow whose Ricci curvature is uniformly bounded below and whose volume does not approach zero must converge to a $C^{0}$ orbifold at any finite-time singularity, so has an extension through the singularity via orbifold Ricci flow. Moreover, a Type-I blowup of the flow based at any orbifold point converges to a flat cone in the Gromov-Hausdorff sense, without passing to a subsequence. In addition, we prove $L^{p}$ bounds for the curvature tensor on time-slices for any $p<2$. In higher dimensions, we show that every singular point of …
We first extend Cheeger-Colding Almost Splitting Theorem to smooth metric measure spaces. Arguments utilizing this extension of the Almost Splitting Theorem show that if a smooth metric measure space has almost nonnegative Bakry-Emery Ricci curvature and a lower bound on volume, then its fundamental group is almost abelian. Second, if the smooth metric measure space has Bakry-Emery Ricci curvature bounded from below then the number of generators of the fundamental group is uniformly bounded. These results are extensions of theorems which hold for Riemannian manifolds with Ricci curvature bound…
Let $(M,g)$ be a compact manifold with Ricci curvature almost bounded from below and $π:\bar{M}\to M$ be a normal, Riemannian cover. We show that, for any nonnegative function $f$ on $M$, the means of $føπ$ on the geodesic balls of $\bar{M}$ are comparable to the mean of $f$ on $M$. Combined with logarithmic volume estimates, this implies bounds on several topological invariants (volume entropy, simplicial volume, first Betti number and presentations of the fundamental group) in Ricci curvature $L^p$-bounded from below.
Using methods of A. Grigor'yan and L. Saloff-Coste we prove that on a manifold with a conical end the heat kernel has a Gaussian bound. This result is applied to asymptotically conical Kähler manifolds. It is a result of the author and R. Goto that a crepant resolution of a Ricci-flat Kähler cone admits a Ricci-flat Kähler metric asymptotic to the cone metric in every Kähler class. We prove the sharp rate of convergence of the metric to the cone metric. For compact Kähler classes this is the same as for the Ricci-flat ALE metrics of P. Kronheimer and D. Joyce.
We consider the Kähler-Ricci flow $\frac{\partial}{\partial t}g_{i\bar{j}} = g_{i\bar{j}} - R_{i\bar{j}}$ on a compact Kähler manifold $M$ with $c_1(M) > 0$, of complex dimension $k$. We prove the $ε$-regularity lemma for the Kähler-Ricci flow, based on Moser's iteration. Assume that the Ricci curvature and $\int_M |\rem|^k dV_t$ are uniformly bounded along the flow. Using the $ε$-regularity lemma we derive the compactness result for the Kähler-Ricci flow. Under our assumptions, if $k \ge 3$ in addition, using the compactness result we show that $|\rem| \le C$ holds uniformly along the flow. T…
Let $X$ be a compact Kähler manifold. We prove that the Kähler-Ricci flow starting from arbitrary closed positive $(1,1)$-currents is smooth outside some analytic subset. This regularity result is optimal meaning that the flow has positive Lelong numbers for short time if the initial current does. We also prove that the flow is unique when starting from currents with zero Lelong numbers.
Inspired by the idea of Colding-Minicozzi in [CM1], we define (mean curvature flow) entropy for submanifolds in a general ambient Riemannian manifold. In particular, this entropy is equivalent to area growth of a closed submanifold in a closed ambient manifold with non-negative Ricci curvature. Moreover, this entropy is monotone along the mean curvature flow in a closed Riemannian manifold with non-negative sectional curvatures and parallel Ricci curvature. As an application, we show the partial regularity of the limit of mean curvature flow of surfaces in a three dimensional Riemannian manifo…
In this paper, we explore the limit structure of a sequence of Riemannian manifolds with Bakry-Émery Ricci curvature bounded below in the Gromov-Hausdorff topology. By extending the techniques established by Cheeger-Cloding for Riemannian manifolds with Ricci curvature bounded below, we prove that each tangent space at a point of the limit space is a metric cone. We also analyze the singular structure of the limit space analogous to a work of Cheeger-Colding-Tian. Our results will be applied to study the limit space of a sequence of Kähler metrics arising from solutions of certain complex Mong…
In this note, we obtain a sharp volume estimate for complete gradient Ricci solitons with scalar curvature bounded below by a positive constant. Using Chen-Yokota's argument we obtain a local lower bound estimate of the scalar curvature for the Ricci flow on complete manifolds. Consequently, one has a sharp estimate of the scalar curvature for expanding Ricci solitons; we also provide a direct (elliptic) proof of this sharp estimate. Moreover, if the scalar curvature attains its minimum value at some point, then the manifold is Einstein.
In this paper we discuss and prove $ε$-regularity theorems for Einstein manifolds $(M^n,g)$, and more generally manifolds with just bounded Ricci curvature, in the collapsed setting. A key tool in the regularity theory of noncollapsed Einstein manifolds is the following: If $x\in M^n$ is such that $Vol(B_1(x))>v>0$ and that $B_2(x)$ is sufficiently Gromov-Hausdorff close to a cone space $B_2(0^{n-\ell},y^*)\subset \mathbb{R}^{n-\ell}\times C(Y^{\ell-1})$ for $\ell\leq 3$, then in fact $|Rm|\leq 1$ on $B_1(x)$. No such results are known in the collapsed setting, and in fact it is easy to see wi…
In this work, we study the H\"older regularity of the Kähler- Ricci flow on compact Kähler manifolds with semi-ample canonical line bundle. By adapting the method in the work of Hein-Tosatti on collapsing Calabi-Yau metrics, we obtain a uniform spatial Hölder estimate of the Kähler-Ricci flow for all time.
In this note we prove a new ε-regularity theorem for the Ricci flow. Let (M^n,g(t)) with t\in [-T,0] be a Ricci flow and H_{x} the conjugate heat kernel centered at a point (x,0) in the final time slice. Substituting H_{x} into Perelman's W-functional produces a monotone function W_{x}(s) of s \in [-T,0], the pointed entropy, with W_{x}(s) <= 0, and W_{x}(s) = 0 iff (M,g(t)) is isometric to the trivial flow on R^n. Our main theorem asserts the following: There exists an ε>0, depending only on T and on lower scalar curvature and μ-entropy bounds for (M,g(-T)), such that W_{x_0}(s) > -εimplies |…
We show that for certain locally collapsing initial data with Ricci curvature bounded below, one could start the Ricci flow for a definite period of time. This provides a Ricci flow smoothing tool, with which we find topological conditions that detect the collapsing infranil fiber bundles over controlled Riemannian orbifolds among those locally collapsing regions with Ricci curvature bounded below. In the appendix, we also provide a local distance distortion estimate for certain Ricci flows with collapsing initial data.
We establish some important inequalities under a lower weighted Ricci curvature bound on Finsler manifolds. Firstly, we establish a relative volume comparison of Bishop-Gromov type. As one of the applications, we obtain an upper bound for volumes of the Finsler manifolds. Further, when the S-curvature is bounded on the whole manifold, we obtain a theorem of Bonnet-Myers type on Finsler manifolds. Finally, we obtain a sharp Poincaré-Lichnerowicz inequality by using integrated Bochner inequality, from which we obtain a sharp lower bound for the first eigenvalue on the Finsler manifolds.
A local cut point is by definition a point that disconnectes its sufficiently small neighborhood. We show that there exists an upper bound for the degree of a local cut point in a metric measure space satisfying the generalized Bishop--Gromov inequality. As a corollary, we obtain an upper bound for the number of ends of such a space. We also obtain some obstruction conditions for the existence of a local cut point in a metric measure space satisfying the Bishop--Gromov inequality or the Poincaré inequality. For example, the measured Gromov--Hausdorff limits of Riemannian manifolds with a lower…
In this paper, we study the long-term behavior of the conical Kähler-Ricci flow on Fano manifold $M$. First, based on our work of locally uniform regularity for the twisted Kähler-Ricci flows, we obtain a long-time solution to the conical Kähler-Ricci flow by limiting a sequence of these twisted flows. Second, we study the uniform Perelman's estimates of the twisted Kähler-Ricci flows. After that, we prove that the conical Kähler-Ricci flow must converge to a conical Kähler-Einstein metric if there exists one.
In this paper, we prove that the Kahler Ricci flow converges to a Kahler Einstein metric when E_1 energy is small. We also prove that E_1 is bounded from below if and only if the K energy is bounded from below in the canonical class.
We consider smooth complete solutions to Ricci flow with bounded curvature on manifolds without boundary in dimension three. Assuming an open ball at time zero of radius one has curvature bounded from below by -1, then we prove estimates which show that compactly contained subregions of this ball will be smoothed out by the Ricci flow for a short but well defined time interval. The estimates we obtain depend only on the initial volume of the ball and the distance from the compact region to the boundary of the initial ball. Versions of these estimates for balls of radius r follow using scaling …
For Riemannian manifolds with a measure $(M,g, e^{-f} dvol_g)$ we prove mean curvature and volume comparison results when the $\infty$-Bakry-Emery Ricci tensor is bounded from below and $f$ is bounded or $\partial_r f$ is bounded from below, generalizing the classical ones (i.e. when $f$ is constant). This leads to extensions of many theorems for Ricci curvature bounded below to the Bakry-Emery Ricci tensor. In particular, we give extensions of all of the major comparison theorems when $f$ is bounded. Simple examples show the bound on $f$ is necessary for these results.
We discuss in which sense general metric measure spaces possess a first order differential structure. Building on this, we then see that on spaces with Ricci curvature bounded from below a second order calculus can be developed, permitting to define Hessian, covariant/exterior derivatives and Ricci curvature.
Let $M$ be a compact Riemannian manifold of nonnegative Ricci curvature and $Σ$ a compact embedded 2-sided minimal hypersurface in $M$. It is proved that there is a dichotomy: If $Σ$ does not separate $M$ then $Σ$ is totally geodesic and $M\setminusΣ$ is isometric to the Riemannian product $Σ\times(a,b)$, and if $Σ$ separates $M$ then the map $i_*:π_1(Σ)\rightarrow π_1(M)$ induced by inclusion is surjective. This surjectivity is also proved for a compact 2-sided hypersurface with mean curvature $H\geq(n-1)\sqrt{k}$ in a manifold of Ricci curvature $Ric_M\geq-(n-1)k,k>0$, and for a free boundar…
We draw elliptic regularity results for 4-manifolds with an elliptic system, without Sobolev constant control. Direct use of analysis is circumvented; the results come mainly through geometric and topological arguments. In contrast to our previous paper, which worked predominantly on the scale of the curvature radius, the results here provide curvature controls on a fixed scale.
We prove a rigidity result for non-negative scalar curvature perturbations of the Euclidean metric on $\mathbb{R^n}$ , which may be regarded as a weak version of the rigidity statement of the positive mass theorem. We prove our result by analyzing long time solutions of Ricci DeTurck flow. As a byproduct in doing so, we extend known $L^p$ bounds and decay rates for Ricci DeTurck flow and prove regularity of the flow at the initial data.
Let $M^{n+1}$ be an orientable compact Riemannian manifold with positive Ricci curvature. We prove that the Almgren-Pitts width of $M^{n+1}$ is achieved by an orientable index $1$ minimal hypersurface with multiplicity $1$ and optimal regularity. This extends to dimensions $n+1\geq 8$ the results of Ketover-Marques-Neves arXiv:1601.04514v1 [math.DG] and X. Zhou arXiv:1504.00966v2 [math.DG].
We show that for a noncollapsing sequence of closed, connected, oriented Riemannian manifolds with Ricci curvature uniformly bounded from below and diameter uniformly bounded above, Gromov-Hausdorff convergence essentially agrees with intrinsic flat convergence.

This paper explores and ties together three themes. The first is to establish regularity of a metric tensor, on a manifold with boundary, on which there are given Ricci curvature bounds, on the manifold and its boundary, and a Lipschitz bound on the mean curvature of the boundary. The second is to establish geometric convergence of a (sub)sequence of manifolds with boundary with such geometrical bounds and also an upper bound on the diameter and a lower bound on injectivity and boundary injectivity radius, making use of the first part. The third theme involves the uniqueness and conditional st…
On closed Riemannian manifolds with Bakry-Émery Ricci curvature bounded from below and bounded gradient of the potential function, we obtain lower bounds for all positive eigenvalues of the Beltrami-Laplacian instead of the drifted Laplacian. The lower bound of the $k$th eigenvalue depends on $k$, Bakry-Émery Ricci curvature lower bound, the gradient bound of the potential function, and the dimension and diameter upper bound of the manifold, but the volume of the manifold is not involved. Especially, these results apply to closed manifolds with Ricci curvature bounded from below.
We study non-collapsed Gromov-Hausdorff limits of Kähler manifolds with Ricci curvature bounded below. Our main result is that each tangent cone is homeomorphic to a normal affine variety. This extends a result of Donaldson-Sun, who considered non-collapsed limits of polarized Kähler manifolds with two-sided Ricci curvature bounds.
We consider four extended Ricci flow systems---that is, Ricci flow coupled with other geometric flows---and prove dynamical stability of certain classes of stationary solutions of these flows. The systems include Ricci flow coupled with harmonic map flow (studied abstractly and in the context of Ricci flow on warped products), Ricci flow coupled with both harmonic map flow and Yang-Mills flow, and Ricci flow coupled with heat flow for the torsion of a metric-compatible connection. The methods used to prove stability follow a program outlined by Guenther, Isenberg, and Knopf, which uses maximal…
