In this work, a microscopic effective nucleon-nucleon interaction based on the Dirac-Brueckner-Hartree-Fock $G$ matrix starting from a bare nucleon-nucleon interaction is used to explore the $α$-decay half-lives of the nuclei near $N=Z$ line. Specifically, the $α$-nucleus potential is constructed by doubly folding the effective nucleon-nucleon interaction with respect to the density distributions of both the $α$-cluster and daughter nucleus. Moreover, the $α$-cluster preformation factor is extracted by a cluster formation model. It is shown that the calculated half-lives can reproduce the experimental data well. Then, the $α$-decay half-lives that are experimentally unavailable for the nuclei around $N=Z$ are predicted, which are helpful for searching for the new candidates of $α$-decay in future experiments. In addition, by analyzing the proton-neutron correlation energy and two protons-two neutrons correlation energy of $Z=52$ and $Z=54$ isotopes, the $α$-cluster preformation factor evolution with $N$ is explained. Furthermore, it is found that the two protons-two neutrons interaction plays more important role in $α$-cluster preformation than the proton-neutron interaction. Meanwhile, proton-neutron interaction results in the odd-even effect of the $α$-cluster preformation factor.
In present work, the unfavored $\mathcalα$ decay half-lives and $\mathcalα$ preformation probabilities of closed shell nuclei related to ground and isomeric states around $Z=82$, $N=82$ and 126 shell closures are investigated by adopting two-potential approach from the perspective of valence nucleon (hole) and isospin asymmetry of the parent nucleus. The results indicate that $\mathcalα$ preformation probability is linear dependence on $N_p N_n$ or $N_p N_n I$, the same as the case of favored $\mathcalα$ decay in our previous work [X.-D. Sun \textit{et al.}, Phys. Rev. C 94, 024338 (2016)]. $N…
The ground-state spin and parity of a formed daughter in the radioactive Alpha-emitter is expected to influence the preformation probability of the Alpha and daughter clusters inside it. We investigate the Alpha and daughter preformation probability inside odd-A and doubly-odd radioactive nuclei when the daughter and parent are of different spin and/or parity. We consider only the ground-state to ground-state unfavored decays. This is to extract precise information about the effect of the difference in the ground states spin-parity of the involved nuclei far away any influences from the excita…

In this work, we systematically study the $α$ decay preformation factors $P_α$ and $α$ decay half-lives of 152 nuclei around $Z$ = 82, $N$ = 126 closed shells based on a generalized liquid drop model while $P_α$ is extracted from the ratio of the calculated $α$ decay half-life to the experimental one. The results show that there is an obvious linear relationship between $P_α$ and the product of valance protons (holes) $N_p$ and valance neutrons (holes) $N_n$. At the same time, we extract the $$P_α$ values of even-even nuclei around $\emph{Z}$ = 82, $\emph{N}$ = 126 closed shells from the work …
In this work, we systematically investigate the favored $α$-decay half-lives and $α$ preformation probabilities of both odd-$A$ and doubly-odd nuclei related to ground and isomeric states around the doubly magic cores at $Z=82$, $N=82$ and at $Z=82$, $N=126$, respectively, within a two-potential approach from the view of the valence nucleon (or hole). The results show that the $α$ preformation probability is linear related to $N_\text{p}N_\text{n}$ or $N_\text{p}N_\text{n}I$, where $N_\text{p}$, $N_\text{n}$, and $I$ are the number of valence protons (or holes), the number of valence neutrons …

Systematic alpha-nucleus folding potentials are used to analyze alpha-decay half-lives of superheavy nuclei. Preformation factors of about several per cent are found for all nuclei under study. The systematic behavior of the preformation factors and the volume integrals of the potentials allows to predict alpha-decay energies and half-lives for unknown nuclei. Shell closures can be determined from measured alpha-decay energies using the discontinuity of the volume integral at shell closures. For the first time a double shell closure is predicted for Z_magic = 132, N_magic = 194, and A_magic = …

$α$ decay is usually associated with both ground and low-lying isomeric states of heavy and superheavy nuclei, and the unpaired nucleon plays a key role on $α$ decay. In this work, we systematically studied the $α$ decay half-lives of odd-$A$ nuclei, including both favored and unfavored $α$ decay within the two-potential approach based on the isospin dependent nuclear potential. The $α$ preformation probabilities are estimated by using an analytic formula taking into account the shell structure and proton-neutron correlation, and the parameters are obtained through the $α$ decay half-lives dat…
The universal curve is one of the simple ways to get preliminary information about the Alpha-decay half-life times of heavy nuclei. We try to find parameterization for the universal curve of Alpha decay based on semi-microscopic calculations, starting from the realistic M3Y-Reid nucleon-nucleon interaction. Within the deformed density-dependent cluster model, the penetration probability and the assault frequency are calculated using the WKB penetration probability. The deformations of daughter nuclei and the ground-state spin and parity of the involved nuclei are considered. We found that it i…
The formation of $α$ particle on nuclear surface has been a fundamental problem since the early age of nuclear physics. It strongly affects the $α$ decay lifetime of heavy and superheavy elements, level scheme of light nuclei, and the synthesis of the elements in stars. However, the $α$-particle formation in medium-mass nuclei has been poorly known despite its importance. Here, based on the $^{48}{\rm Ti}(p,pα)^{44}{\rm Ca}$ reaction analysis, we report that the $α$-particle formation in a medium-mass nucleus $^{48}{\rm Ti}$ is much stronger than that expected from a mean-field approximation, …
Background: The deformation of the nuclei involved in the cluster decay of heavy nuclei affect seriously their half-lives against the decay. Purpose: We investigate the description of the different decay stages in both the optimum orientation and the orientation-averaged pictures of the cluster decay process. Method: We consider the decays of 232,233,234U and 236,238Pu isotopes. The quantum mechanical knocking frequency and penetration probability based on the Wentzel-Kramers-Brillouin approximation are used to find the decay width. Results: We found that the orientation-averaged decay width i…
In present work, we systematically study the $α$ decay half-lives of 170 even-even nuclei with $60 \leqslant Z \leqslant 118$ within the two-potential approach while the $α$ decay preformation factor $P_α$ is obtained by the cluster-formation model. The calculated results can well reproduce the experimental data. In addition, we extend this model to predict the $α$ decay half-lives of 64 even-even nuclei with $104 \leqslant Z \leqslant 128$ whose $α$ decay is energetically allowed or observed but not yet quantified. For comparing, the two famous models i.e. SemFIS proposed by D. Poenaru ${et\ …
We considered the systematics of $α$-decay (AD) half-life (HL) of super-heavy nuclei versus the decay energy and the total $α$-kinetic energy. We calculated the HL using the experimental Q_{$α$} values. The computed half-lives are compared with the experimental data and also with the existing empirical estimates and are found in good agreement. Also, we obtained $α$-preformation factors from the ratio between theoretical and experimental results for some super heavy nuclei SHN and evaluated the standard deviation. The results indicate the acceptability of the approach.
Exotic cluster decay of very heavy nuclei is studied using the microscopic nuclear potentials obtained by folding density dependent M3Y effective interaction with the densities of the cluster and the daughter nuclei. The microscopic nuclear potential, Coulomb interaction and the centrifugal barrier arising out of spin-parity conservation are used to obtain the potential between the cluster and the daughter nuclei. Half life values are calculated in the WKB framework and the preformation factors are extracted. The latter values are seen to have only a very weak dependence on the mass of the emi…
The modes of decay for the even-even isotopes of superheavy nuclei of Z = 118 and 120 with neutron number $160 \leq N \leq 204$ are investigated in the framework of the axially deformed relativistic mean field model. The asymmetry parameter $η$ and the relative neutron-proton asymmetry of the surface to the center ($R_η$) are estimated for the ground state density distributions of the nuclei. We suggest that the resulting asymmetry parameter $η$ and the relative neutron-proton asymmetry $R_η$ of the density play a crucial role in the preformation factor of the decay half life.
Nuclei with $A>282$ have been studied in the Relativistic Mean Field approach using the force FSU Gold and a zero range pairing interaction. The Euler-Lagrange equations have been solved in the co-ordinate space. Alpha nucleus potential has been constructed with the DDM3Y1 interaction, which has an exponential density dependence, in the double folding model using the nucleon densities in the daughter nucleus and the $α$ particle. Half lives of $α$ decay have been calculated for tunneling of the $α$ particle through the potential barrier in the WKB approximation and assuming a constant preforma…
$α$ decay is a common and important process for natural radioactivity of heavy and superheavy nuclei. The $α$ decay half-lives for even-even nuclei from Z=62 to Z=118 are systematically researched based on the two-potential approach with a quasi-stationary state approximation. To describe the deviations between experimental half-lives and calculated results due to the nuclear shell structure, a hindrance factor related with $α$ particle preformation probability is introduced. Our results can well reproduce the experimental data equally to the density-dependent cluster model and the generalized…
$α$ decay occurs in both ground states and isomers of nuclei. In this work, we use the two-potential approach to systematically study whether isomeric states play a key role on $α$ particle clustering or not. The results indicate the ratios of $α$ decay preformation probabilities of isomers to ground states are found to be around 1.
In a previous article published in Phys. Rev. C 94 (2016) 014309 we have shown for the first time that the best dynamical trajectory during the deformation toward fission of the superheavy nucleus $^{286}$Fl is a linearly increasing radius of the light fragment, $R_2$. This macroscopic-microscopic result reminds us about the $α$ or cluster preformation at the nuclear surface, assumed already in 1928, and proved microscopically many times. This time we give more detailed arguments for the neighboring nucleus $^{282}$Cn. Also similar figures are presented for heavy nuclei $^{240}$Pu and $^{252}$…
In this paper, we have calculated the $α$-decay half-lives of superheavy nuclei with $106 \leq Z \leq 126$ and a neutron number of $150 \leq N \leq 200$ within proximity potentials and deformed-spherical Coulomb potentials by using $WS4$ $α$-decay energy and the semi-classical Wentzel-Kramers-Brillouin approximation for penetration probability. Besides, we have included the preformation factor within the cluster-formation model. We have investigated magic numbers and submagic numbers in the mentioned region; with high probability 162, 178, and 184 are predicted as neutron magic numbers. We als…
The $\mathcalα$ decay half-life of unknown nucleus $^{297}$Og is predicted within two-potential approach, and $\mathcalα$ preformation probabilities of 64 odd-$A$ nuclei in the region of proton numbers $82<Z<126$ and neutron numbers $152<N<184$ from $^{251}$Cf to $^{295}$Og are extracted. In addition, based on the latest experimental data, a new set of parameters for $\mathcalα$ preformation probabilities considering the shell effect and proton-neutron interaction are obtained. The predicted $\mathcalα$ decay half-life of $^{297}$Og is 0.16 ms within a factor of 4.97 as well as the spin and pa…
In the present work, we systematically study the $\mathcalα$ decay preformation factors $P_α$ within the cluster-formation model and $\mathcalα$ decay half-lives by the proximity potential 1977 formalism for nuclei around $Z=82$, $N=126$ closed shells. The calculations show that the realistic $P_α$ is linearly dependent on the product of valance protons (holes) and valance neutrons (holes) $N_pN_n$. It is consistent with our previous works [X.-D. Sun \textit{et al.}, \href{https://journals.aps.org/prc/abstract/10.1103/PhysRevC.94.024338}{ Phys. Rev. C 94, 024338 (2016)}, J.-G. Deng \textit{et …
A systematic study on $α$-decay half-lives for the nuclei in the range $93\leq Z \leq 118$ is done by employing various versions of proximity potentials. To obtain the more reliable results, the deformation terms are included up to hexadecapole ($β_{4}$) in the spherical-deformed nuclear and Coulomb interaction potentials. The favored $α$-decays process in this region are categorized as the even-even, odd A, and odd-odd nuclei, first, and second they are grouped into two parts as a ground state to ground state and ground state to isomeric states transition. Due to their root-mean-square deviat…
The $α$-decay chains of $^{288-287}115$ are studied along with the possible cluster decay modes by using the preformed cluster model (PCM). The calculated $α$-decay half-lives are compared with experimental data and other model calculations. The calculated Q-values, penetration probabilities and preformation probabilities factors for $α$-decay suggest that $^{283}_{170}113$,$^{287}_{172}115$ and $^{272}_{165}107$ parent nuclei are more stable against the $α$-decay. These alpha decay chains are further explored for the possibilities of cluster decay. Decay half lives of different cluster from d…
Considering the preformation probability of the two emitted protons in the parent nucleus, we extend the Coulomb and proximity potential model (CPPM) to systematically study two-proton (2p) radioactivity half-lives of the nuclei close to proton drip line. The proximity potential chosen is Prox. 81 proposed by Blocki et al. in 1981. Furthermore, we apply this model to predict the half-lives of possible 2p radioactive candidates whose 2p radioactivity is energetically allowed or observed but not yet quantified in the evaluated nuclear properties table NUBASE2016. The predicted results are in goo…
We investigate the formation distance ($R_0$) from the center of the radioactive parent nucleus at which the emitted cluster is most probably formed. The calculations are microscopically performed starting from solving the time-independent Schrödinger wave equation for the $α$-core system, using nuclear potential based on the Skyrme-SLy4 nucleon-nucleon interaction and folding Coulomb potential, to determine the incident and transmitted wave functions of the system. Our results advocate that the emitted cluster is mostly formed in the pre-surface region of the nucleus, under the effect of Paul…
Characteristic quantities such as the penetration and preformation probabilities, assault frequency and tunneling times in the tunneling description of alpha decay of heavy nuclei are explored to reveal their sensitivity to neutron numbers in the vicinity of the magic neutron number $N$ = 126. Using realistic nuclear potentials, the sensitivity of these quantities to the parameters of the theoretical approach is also tested. An investigation of the region from $N=116$ to $N=132$ in Po nuclei reveals that the tunneling $α$ particle spends the least amount of time with an $N=126$ magic daughter …
We have performed large-scale shell-model calculations of the half-lives and neutron-branching probabilities of the r-process waiting point nuclei at the magic neutron numbers N=50, 82, and 126. The calculations include contributions from allowed Gamow-Teller and first-forbidden transitions. We find good agreement with the measured half-lives for the N=50 nuclei with charge numbers Z=28-32 and for the N=82 nuclei 129Ag and 130Cd. The contribution of forbidden transitions reduce the half-lives of the N=126 waiting point nuclei significantly, while they have only a small effect on the half-lives…
A simple phenomenological model, based on the Świ{\c a}tecki idea for evaluation of the spontaneous fission half-lives is proposed. The model contains only one adjustable parameter fixed to the data for even-even nuclei and two additional hindrance factors to the life-times, which give the effect of odd particles. A good agreement with the experimental data for all fissioning nuclei is achieved.
It is shown, that the Gamow-like model with only one adjustable parameter - radius constant is able to reproduce well the alpha-decay half-lives for all even-even nuclei with the proton number larger than 50. The systematics for odd-A and odd-odd isotopes can be also well described when ones introduces an additional hindrance factor. Similar model based on the W. J. Swiatecki idea from 1955 is developed to reproduce the spontaneous fission half-lives of transactinide nuclei. The achieved accuracy of reproduction of the data is better than that obtained in more advanced theories.
In recent years, artificial neural network (ANN) has been successfully applied in nuclear physics and some other areas of physics. This study begins with the calculations of α-decay half-lives for some neutron-deficient nuclei using Coulomb and proximity potential model (CPPM), temperature dependent Coulomb and proximity potential model (CPPMT), Royer empirical formula, new Ren B (NRB) formula, and a trained artificial neural network model (TANN ). By comparison with experimental values, the ANN model is found to give very good descriptions of the half-lives of the neutron-deficient nuclei. Mo…
The $α$- decay half-lives of the superheavy nuclei are systematically studied using different versions of proximity potential and a exact method to calculate Coulomb potential between spherical and deformed nuclei in the framework of the double folding model. To reproduce the $α$-decay half-life, the experimental $α$-decay energy and Wentzel-Kramers-Brillouin approximation have been used. It is found that the computed values by the Ng$\hat{o}$ 80 are in good compromise with the experimental half-lives in comparison with other versions. Also, by using this version and within $Q_{WS4}$ for deter…
The experimentally available data on the alpha decay half lives and Q? values for 96 superheavy nuclei are used to fix the parameters for a modified version of the Brown empirical formula through two fitting procedures which enables its comparison with similar fits using Viola-Seaborg and Royer formulas. The new expressions provide very good agreement with experimental data having fewer or the same number of parameters. All formulas with the obtained parameters are then extrapolated to generate half lives predictions for 125 unknown superheavy alpha emitters. The nuclei where the employed empi…
We systematically calculate the spontaneous fission half-lives for heavy and superheavy nuclei between U and Fl isotopes. The spontaneous fission process is studied within the semi-empirical WKB approximation. The potential barrier is obtained using a generalized liquid drop model, taking into account the nuclear proximity, the mass asymmetry, the phenomenological pairing correction, and the microscopic shell correction. Macroscopic inertial-mass function has been employed for the calculation of the fission half-life. The results reproduce rather well the experimental data. Relatively long hal…
In the present work we calculate the allowed $β^-$-decay half-lives of nuclei with $Z = 20 -30$ and N $\leq$ 50 systematically under the framework of the nuclear shell model. A recent study shows that some nuclei in this region belong to the island of inversion. We perform calculation for $fp$ shell nuclei using KB3G effective interaction. In the case of Ni, Cu, and Zn, we used JUN45 effective interaction. Theoretical results of $Q$ values, half-lives, excitation energies, log$ft$ values, and branching fractions are discussed and compared with the experimental data. In the Ni region, we also c…
We have applied the Coulomb and proximity potential model,CPPM to calculate the half lives for various clusters decay of the selected even-even isotopes of the chosen nuclei. These nuclei are Hf, W, Os, Pt, and Hg in the 5d transition metal region in the periodic table with atomic number 72 greater or equal Z less than or equal 80. Furthermore, the half-lives are calculated using the universal formula for cluster decay. The calculated half-lives of alpha decay for the chosen isotopes are in good agreement with the experimental data, especially with the CPPM results. The alpha and cluster decay…
We have constructed new proximity function particularly for interaction between two superheavy nuclei based on the experimental alpha decay half-lives. The new proximity function is used to produce the alpha decay half-lives of superheavy nuclei whose experimental values are known. The new proximity function produces the alpha decay half-lives close to the experiments. Hence we can conclude that the new proximity function can be used to study the interaction between two superheavy nuclei.
The formation of superheavy nuclei in $^{48}Ca+^{232}Th$, $^{238}U$, $^{242,244}Pu$ and $^{248}Cm$ reactions and their subsequent decay are studied within the quantum mechanical fragmentation theory (QMFT) and the QMFT based preformed cluster-decay model (PCM) of Gupta and collaborators. According to QMFT, all these $^{48}Ca$-induced reactions are cold fusion reactions with relative excitation energies larger than for the $Pb$-induced cold fusion reactions and smaller than for the lighter beam i.e. $Mg$, $Si$ or $S$-induced hot fusion reactions. The same reactions were first suggested by Gupta…
Alpha-decay half-lives for 104,105,106Te and 108,109,110Xe close above the doubly-magic 100Sn are calculated from systematic double-folding potentials. The derived alpha preformation factors are compared to results for 212,213,214Po and 216,217,218Rn above the doubly-magic 208Pb. Alpha-decay energies of Q_alpha = 5.42 \pm 0.07 MeV and 4.65 \pm 0.15 MeV are predicted for 104Te and 108Xe; the corresponding half-lives are T_{1/2} approx 5 ns for 104Te and of the order of 60 μs for 108Xe. Additionally, the properties of rotational bands in 104Te are analyzed, and the first excited 2+ state in 104T…
Cluster decays half-lives of elements with proton numbers between 56 < Zp < 120 are calculated by applying temperature dependent proximity potential approach. for showing the influence of temperature on cluster decays, we compared the results among temperature dependent and inde-pendent case with experimental values. The obtained results of the present investigation reveal that we have more accurate results for temperature dependent proximity potential in comparison to ignoring one. In the present work, we find that results provided with temperature dependent prox-imity model are reasonable es…
We give results of microscopic calculations for the half-lives of various proton-rich nuclei in the mass region A=60-90, which are involved in the astrophysical rp-process, and which are needed as input parameters of numerical simulations in Nuclear Astrophysics. The microscopic formalism consists of a deformed QRPA approach that involves a selfconsistent quasiparticle deformed Skyrme Hartree-Fock basis and residual spin-isospin separable forces in both the particle-hole and particle-particle channels. The strength of the particle-hole residual interaction is chosen to be consistent with the S…
A selfconsistent approach based on a deformed HF+BCS+QRPA method with density-dependent Skyrme forces is used to describe beta+ decay properties in even-even deformed proton rich nuclei. Residual spin-isospin forces are included in the particle-hole and particle-particle channels. The quasiparticle basis contains neutron-neutron and proton-proton pairing correlations in the BCS approach, while neutron-proton pairing interaction is treated as a residual force in QRPA. We discuss the sensitivity of Gamow-Teller strength distributions and beta+/EC half-lives to deformation, pairing and the streng…
It is common to study the strong decay of a heavy nucleus as a tunneling phenomenon where the $α$ ($^4$He) or a light nuclear cluster tunnels through the Coulomb barrier formed by its interaction with the heavier daughter nucleus. The position and width of the Coulomb barrier are determined by the total interaction potential between the two daughter nuclei. We examine the effects of including nonlocality and deformation in the interaction potential by calculating the half-lives, $t_{1/2}$, and thereby phenomenological preformation factors of several nuclei which have the possibility of decayin…
Recently synthesis of superheavy nuclei has been achieved in hot fusion reactions. A systematic theoretical calculation of alpha decay half-lives in this region of the periodic system, may be useful in the identification of new nuclei in these type of reactions. Alpha decay half-lives are obtained in the framework of the barrier penetration theory, built with the use of proximity and Coulomb forces. It is estimated from a classical viewpoint, a possible angular momentum maximum value for odd and odd-odd nuclei alpha particles. The masses of the nuclei are obtained from a macro-microscopic mode…
