Our study presents a time-resolved X-ray spectral analysis of Mkn 421, using AstroSat observations taken during different epochs between 2016 and 2019. The variability of the source in X-rays is utilized to investigate the evolution of its spectral properties. Each observation period was divided into segments of about 10 ks, and we employed three forms of particle distributions: broken-power law (BPL), log-parabola (LP), and power-law with maximum electron energy (xi-max model) undergoing synchrotron losses to fit the broad X-ray spectrum in each segment. We observed that all of these models provided good fits to the spectra. In the case of the broken-power law model, we investigated the relationship between normalized particle density at an energy less than the break energy and the index before the break. The results revealed an inverse correlation between the index and particle density with no time delay. Additionally, correlations between spectral parameters were used to determine the pivot energy. We observed that the pivot energy remained the same across the observations. For xi-max and LP models, we define analogous pivot energies and show that they also do not vary, indicating the model-independent nature of the result. The constant pivot energy suggests that the source's variability arises from index variations and not due to changes in the normalization. Consequently, parameters such as magnetic field strength, Doppler factor, etc., do not contribute to the source's variability. Instead, variations are primarily associated with the acceleration or escape timescales of emitted particles within the source.
We present a time-resolved X-ray spectral study of the high energy peaked blazar Mkn 421 using simultaneous broadband observations from the LAXPC and SXT instruments on-board AstroSat. The ~ 400 ksec long observation taken during 3-8 January, 2017 was divided into segments of 10 ksecs. Each segment was fitted using synchrotron emission from particles whose energy distribution was represented by a log-parabola model. We also considered particle energy distribution models where (i) the radiative cooling leads to a maximum energy (ξ max model), (ii) the system has energy dependent diffusion (EDD)…

We present the results of timing and spectral analysis of the HMXB pulsar, Cen X-3, with the help of observations carried out using the Large Area X-ray Proportional Counter (LAXPC) on board $\textit{AstroSat}$. As part of our analysis, we sampled the source properties during 4 different observation epochs covering two widely different intensity states. We obtain a timing solution and report precise measurements of the spin and orbital parameters corresponding to these observational epochs. The pulse profiles during the two intensity states reveal dramatically varying shapes within a time span…
We present the results from the multi-wavelength monitoring observations of the Narrow-Line Seyfert 1 galaxy Mrk 335 with AstroSat. We analysed both the X-ray (SXT & LAXPC) and UV (UVIT) data of the source at two epochs, separated by ~18 days. The source was in a low flux state during the observations, and the X-ray spectra were found to be harder than usual. The presence of soft X-ray excess was identified in the observations, and the broadband X-ray continuum was modelled with power-law and blackbody (modified by intrinsic absorption) and a distant neutral reflection component. We did not fi…
We report the broadband spectro-temporal study of the poorly studied accreting neutron star (NS) low mass X-ray binary (LMXB) 4U 1724-30 using data from Soft X-ray Telescope (SXT) and Large Area X-ray Proportional Counters (LAXPC) instruments on board AstroSat. The dim persistent LMXB source was observed with AstroSat over 4 epochs in 2017, all of which corresponded to a low-luminosity non-thermal emission dominated (hard/island) emission state with modest spectral evolution. All the X-ray broadband spectra can be modelled by a combination of thermal emission from the NS boundary layer (BL) or…
We present a detailed spectral and timing analysis of Cygnus X-1 with multi-epoch observations, during $2016$ to $2019$, by SXT and LAXPC on-board AstroSat. We model the spectra in broad energy range of $0.5\!-\!70.0\,\rm{keV}$ to study the evolution of spectral properties while Cygnus X-1 transited from hard state to an extreme soft state via intermediate states in 2017. Simultaneous timing features are also examined by modelling the power density spectra in $3.0\!-\!50.0\,\rm{keV}$ . We find that during high-soft state observations, made by AstroSat on Oct $24,\,2017$ (MJD $58050$), the ener…
LMC X-1, a persistent, rapidly rotating, extra-galactic, black hole X-ray binary (BHXB) discovered in 1969, has always been observed in its high soft state. Unlike many other BHXBs, the black hole mass, source distance and binary orbital inclination are well established. In this work, we report the results of simultaneous broadband spectral studies of LMC X-1 carried out using the data from Soft X-ray Telescope and Large Area X-ray Proportional Counter aboard AstroSat as observed on 2016 November 26$^{th}$ and 2017 August 28$^{th}$. The combined spectrum was modelled with a multicolour blackbo…
The study of short-term variability properties in AGN jets has the potential to shed light on their particle acceleration and emission mechanisms. We report results from a four-day coordinated multi-wavelength campaign on the highly-peaked blazar (HBL) Mkn 421 in 2019 January. We obtained X-ray data from AstroSAT, BVRI photometry with the Whole Earth Blazar Telescope (WEBT), and TeV data from FACT to explore short-term multi-wavelength variability in this HBL. The X-ray continuum is rapidly variable on time-scales of tens of ks. Fractional variability amplitude increases with energy across the…
We present timing and spectral results of 2018 outburst of Cepheus X-4, observed twice by AstroSat at luminosity of $2.04 \times 10^{37}$ erg s$^{-1}$ and $1.02 \times 10^{37}$ erg s$^{-1}$ respectively. The light curves showed strong pulsation and co-related X-ray intensity variation in SXT (0.5--8.0 keV) and LAXPC (3--60 keV) energy bands. Spin-period and spin-down rate of the pulsar were determined from two observations as $65.35080\pm0.00014$ s , $(-2.10\pm0.8)\times10^{-12}$ Hz s$^{-1}$ at an epoch MJD 58301.61850 and $65.35290\pm0.00017$ s, $(-1.6\pm0.8)\times10^{-12}$ Hz s$^{-1}$ for an…

We present a detailed analysis of GRB 151006A, the first GRB detected by Astrosat CZT Imager (CZTI). We study the long term spectral evolution by exploiting the capabilities of \emph{Fermi} and \emph{Swift} satellites at different phases, which is complemented by the polarization measurement with the CZTI. While the light curve of the GRB in different energy bands show a simple pulse profile, the spectrum shows an unusual evolution. The first phase exhibits a hard-to-soft (HTS) evolution until $\sim16-20$\,s, followed by a sudden increase in the spectral peak reaching a few MeV. Such a dramati…
