Charged black holes are known to suffer from an interior instability associated with the presence of the Cauchy horizon. Recently, a hairy charged black hole was proposed that avoids the formation of a Cauchy horizon. It is natural to question whether this instability might manifest in the exterior solution. In this paper, we have analyzed the stability of this black hole. Our results show that vector perturbations are stable, along with the scalar sector for $l=0$. We have also computed the corresponding quasinormal modes (QNMs) and quasibound states (QBSs).
We study a family of four-dimensional, asymptotically flat, charged black holes that develop (charged) scalar hair as one increases their charge at fixed mass. Surprisingly, the maximum charge for given mass is a nonsingular hairy black hole with nonzero Hawking temperature. The implications for Hawking evaporation are discussed.
We revisit the superradiant stability of Kerr-Newman black holes under a charged massive scalar perturbation. We obtain a newly suitable potential which is not singular at the outer horizon when a radial equation is expressed the Schrödinger-type equation in terms of the tortoise coordinate. From the potential analysis, we find a condition for the superradiant stability of Kerr-Newman black holes.
Similar to the superradiant effect in Reissner-Nordström black hole, a charged scalar field can be amplified when impinging on the charged black hole in string theory. According to the black-hole bomb mechanism, the mass term of the incident field can works as the reflecting mirror, which may trigger the instability of black hole. We study the possible instability triggered by superradiant effect and demonstrate that the charged black hole in string theory is stable against the massive charged scalar perturbation. The reason is that there is no trapping potential well in the black hole exterior…
Motivated by the wide applications of thermal stability and phase transition, we investigate thermodynamic properties of charged BTZ black holes. We apply the standard method to calculate the heat capacity and the Hessian matrix and find that thermal stability of charged BTZ solutions depends on the choice of ensemble. To overcome this problem, we take into account cosmological constant as a thermodynamical variable. By this modification, we show that the ensemble dependency is eliminated and thermal stability conditions are the same in both ensembles. Then, we generalize our solutions to the …
In this paper we study the stability and quasi-normal modes of scalar perturbations of black holes. The static charged black hole considered here is a solution to Born-Infeld electrodynamics coupled to gravity. We conclude that the black hole is stable. We also compare the stability of it with its linear counter-part Reissner-Nordstrom black hole. The quasi-normal modes are computed using the WKB method. The behavior of these modes with the non-linear parameter, temperature, mass of the scalar field and the spherical index are analyzed in detail.
We find a new instability in the four-dimensional Reissner-Nordstrom-de Sitter black holes against charged scalar perturbations with vanishing angular momentum, $l=0$. We show that such an instability is caused by superradiance. The instability does not occur for an larger angular index, as explicitely proven for $l=1$. Our results are obtained from a numerical investigation of the time domain profiles of the perturbations.
We present new regular solutions of Einstein-charged scalar field theory in a cavity. The system is enclosed inside a reflecting mirror-like boundary, on which the scalar field vanishes. The mirror is placed at the zero of the scalar field closest to the origin, and inside this boundary our solutions are regular. We study the stability of these solitons under linear, spherically symmetric perturbations of the metric, scalar and electromagnetic fields. If the radius of the mirror is sufficiently large, we present numerical evidence for the stability of the solitons. For small mirror radius, som…
We study the stability of charged solitons in 5-dimensional Anti-de Sitter (AdS) space-time. We show that for appropriate choices of the parameters of the model these solutions become unstable to form scalar hair. We find that the existence of charged solitons with scalar hair depends crucially on the charge and the mass of the scalar field. We investigate the dependence of the spectrum of solutions on the mass of the scalar field in detail. For positive mass of the scalar field the hairy solitons can be interpreted as charged boson stars. We find that for sufficiently small value of the charg…
Can a black hole that suffers a superradiant instability evolve towards a 'hairy' configuration which is stable? We address this question in the context of Einstein-charged scalar field theory. First, we describe a family of static black hole solutions which possess charged scalar-field hair confined within a mirror-like boundary. Next, we derive a set of equations which govern the linear, spherically symmetric perturbations of these hairy solutions. We present numerical evidence which suggests that, unlike the vacuum solutions, the (single-node) hairy solutions are stable under linear perturb…
We study exact solutions of the Einstein-Maxwell equations for the interior gravitational field of static spherically symmetric charged compact spheres. The spheres consist of an anisotropic fluid with a charge distribution that gives rise to a static radial electric field. The density of the fluid has the form $ρ(r) = ρ_o + αr^2$ (here $ρ_o$ and $α$ are constants) and the total charge $q(r)$ within a sphere of radius $r$ has the form $q = βr^3$ (with $β$ a constant). We evaluate the critical values of $M/R$ for these spheres as a function of $Q/R$ and compare these values with those given by …
We study exact solutions of the Einstein-Maxwell equations for the interior gravitational field of static spherically symmetric charged compact spheres. The spheres are composed of a perfect fluid with a charge distribution that creates a static radial electric field. The inertial mass density of the fluid has the form $ρ(r) = ρ_o + αr^2$ ($ρ_o$ and $α$ are constants) and the total charge $q(r)$ within a sphere of radius $r$ has the form $q = βr^3$ ($β$ is a constant). We evaluate the critical values of $M/R$ for these spheres as a function of $Q/R$ and compare these values with those given by…
It has been shown recently that the charged black hole can be scalarized if Maxwell field minimally couples with a complex scalar which has nonnegative nonlinear potential. We firstly prove that such scalarization cannot be a result of continuous phase transition for general scalar potential. Furthermore, we numerically find that it is possible that the RN black hole will be scalarized by a first order phase transition spontaneously and extreme RN black hole is not stable in micro-canonical ensemble. In addition, considering a massless scalar perturbation, we compute the quasi-normal modes of …
We use the canonical energy method of Hollands and Wald to study the stability properties of asymptotically flat, stationary solutions to a very general class of theories, consisting of a set of coupled scalar fields and p-form gauge fields, minimally coupled to gravity. We find that, provided certain very weak assumptions are made on the coupling coefficients, the canonical energy method can be extended to this class of theories. In particular, we construct a quadratic form E on initial data perturbations, with the properties that E > 0 on all perturbations indicates stability, while E < 0 on…
We study the stability of charged rotating black holes in a consistent truncation of Type $IIB$ Supergravity on $AdS_5 \times S^5$ that degenerate to extremal black holes with zero entropy. These black holes have scaling properties between charge and angular momentum similar to those of Fermi surface-like operators in a subsector of ${\cal N}=4$ SYM. By solving the equation of motion for a massless scalar field in this background, using matched asymptotic expansion followed by a numerical solution scheme, we are able to compute its Quasi-Normal modes, and analyze it's regime of (in)stability. …
For charged black holes in Horava-Lifshitz gravity, a second order phase transition takes place in extended phase space where the cosmological constant is taken as thermodynamic pressure. We relate the second order nature of phase transition to the fact that the phase transition occurs at a sharp temperature and not over a temperature interval. Once we know the continuity of the first derivatives of the Gibbs free energy, we show that all the Ehrenfest equations are readily satisfied. We study the effect of the perturbation of the cosmological constant as well as the perturbation of the electr…
We analyze the stability of scalarized charged black holes in the Einstein-Maxwell-Scalar (EMS) theory with quadratic coupling. These black holes are labelled by the number of $n=0,1,2,\cdots$, where $n=0$ is called the fundamental black hole and $n=1,2,\cdots$ denote the $n$-excited black holes. We show that the $n=0$ black hole is stable against full perturbations, whereas the $n=1,2$ excited black holes are unstable against the $s(l=0)$-mode scalar perturbation. This is consistent with the EMS theory with exponential coupling, but it contrasts to the $n=0$ scalarized black hole in the Einst…
We construct new regular black hole solutions by matching the de Sitter solution and the Reissner-Nordstrom solution with a timelike thin shell. The thin shell is assumed to have mass but no pressure and obeys an equation of motion derived from Israel's junction conditions. By investigating the equation of motion for the shell, we obtain stationary solutions of charged regular black holes and examine stability of the solutions. Stationary solutions are found in limited ranges of 0.87L < m < 1.99L, and they are stable against small radial displacement of the shell with fixed values of m, M, and…
We study linear and nonlinear stability of asymptotically AdS$_4$ solutions in Einstein-Maxwell-scalar theory. After summarizing the set of static solutions we first examine thermodynamical stability in the grand canonical ensemble and the phase transitions that occur among them. In the second part of the paper we focus on nonlinear stability in the microcanonical ensemble by evolving radial perturbations numerically. We find hints of an instability corner for vanishingly small perturbations of the same kind as the ones present in the uncharged case. Collapses are avoided, instead, if the char…
In this article we study the mechanical stability of spherically symmetric thin shells with charge, in Einstein-Maxwell and Einstein-Born-Infeld theories. We analyze linearized perturbations preserving the symmetry, for shells around vacuum and shells surrounding non charged black holes.
We investigate the stability of motion and the thermodynamics in the case of spherically symmetric solutions in $f(T)$ gravity using the perturbative approach. We consider small deviations from general relativity and we extract charged black hole solutions for two charge profiles, namely with or without a perturbative correction in the charge distribution. We examine their asymptotic behavior, we extract various torsional and curvature invariants, and we calculate the energy and the mass of the solutions. Furthermore, we study the stability of motion around the obtained solutions, by analyzing…
Electrically charged black holes with flat event horizon in anti-de Sitter space have received much attention due to various applications in Anti-de Sitter/Conformal Field Theory (AdS/CFT) correspondence, from modeling the behavior of quark-gluon plasma to superconductor. Crucial to the physics on the dual field theory is the fact that when embedded in string theory, black holes in the bulk may become vulnerable to instability caused by brane pair-production. Since dilaton arises naturally in the context of string theory, we study the effect of coupling dilaton to Maxwell field on the stabilit…
A complex scalar field on a charged black hole in a cavity is known to experience a superradiant instability. We investigate possible final states of this instability. We find hairy black hole solutions of a fully coupled system of Einstein gravity and a charged scalar field. The black holes are surrounded by a reflecting mirror. We also investigate the stability of these black holes.
In this paper, we construct thin-shell wormholes from charged black string through cut and paste procedure and investigate its stability. We assume modified generalized Chaplygin gas as a dark energy fluid (exotic matter) present in the thin layer of matter-shell. The stability of these constructed thin-shell wormholes is investigated in the scenario of linear perturbations. We conclude that static stable as well as unstable configurations are possible for cylindrical thin-shell wormholes.
In this paper we construct charged thin-shell wormholes in (2+1)-dimensions applying the cut-and -paste technique implemented by Visser, from a BTZ black hole which was discovered by Banados, Teitelboim and Zanelli, and the surface stress are determined using the Darmois-Israel formalism at the wormhole throat. We analyzed the stability of the shell considering phantom-energy or generalised Chaplygin gas equation of state for the exotic matter at the throat. We also discussed the linearized stability of charged thin-shell wormholes around the static solution.
This paper studies the stability of warm inflationary solutions when the viscous pressure is taken into account. The latter is a very natural and physically motivated ingredient of warm inflation and is seen to widen the stability range of warm inflation. The spectral index parameters, $n_{s}$, $n_{T}$, and their ratio are derived. The corresponding WMAP7 data are used to fix some parameters of the model. Two specific examples are discussed in detail: (i) a potential given by $V(ϕ, T) = v_{1}(ϕ)\, + \, v_{2}(T)$, and (ii) a potential of the form $V(ϕ, T) = α\, v_{1}(ϕ) \, v_{2}(T)$. In both ca…
In this paper, we consider the first order correction of the entropy and temperature in a charged black hole with a scalar field. Here, we apply such correction for the different cases of black holes. These corrections are due to the thermal fluctuations of statistical physics. Also, we take advantage of such corrections and study the $ P - V $ critically and phase transition. Also, we investigate the effect of correction on the critical point and stability of the system. We obtain modified thermodynamics quantities and find effects of thermal fluctuations in the stability of the black hole. W…
We present spontaneous scalarization of charged black holes (BHs) which is induced by the coupling of the scalar field to the electromagnetic field strength and the double-dual Riemann tensor $L^{μναβ}F_{μν}F_{αβ}$ in a scalar-vector-tensor theory. In our model, the scalarization can be realized under the curved background with a non-trivial electromagnetic field, such as Reissner-Nordstr$\ddot{\rm o}$m Black Holes (RN BHs). Firstly, we investigate the stability of the constant scalar field around RN BHs in the model, and show that the scalar field can suffer a tachyonic instability. Secondly,…
A mathematical model of the evolution of plane perturbations in the cosmological statistical system of completely degenerated scalar-charged fermions with the Higgs scalar interaction is formulated. A complete closed system of differential equations describing the unperturbed state of a homogeneous and isotropic system and a system of self-consistent equations describing the evolution of small perturbations are constructed.
We examine the stability of charged Lovelock black hole solutions under vector type and scalar type perturbations. We find the suitable master variables for the stability analysis; the equations for these variables are the Schrodinger type equations with two components and these Schrodinger operators are symmetric. By these master equations, we show that charged Lovelock Black holes are stable under vector type perturbations. For scalar type perturbations, we show the criteria for the instability and check these numerically. In our previous paper, we have shown that nearly extremal black holes…
We investigated the superradiance and stability of the novel 4D charged Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet black hole which is recently inspired by Glavan and Lin [Phys. Rev. Lett. 124, 081301 (2020)]. We found that the positive Gauss-Bonnet coupling consant $α$ enhances the superradiance, while the negative $α$ suppresses it. The condition for superradiant instability is proved. We also worked out the quasinormal modes (QNMs) of the charged Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet black hole and found that the real part of all the QNMs live beyond the superradiance condition and the imaginary parts are all negative. Therefo…
The radial motion of a self-graviting charged dust and stability condition of the static charged dust spheres are considered. The stability is possible for the bound states of the weakly charged layer with abnormal charge with respect to the active mass.
A criterion of thermal stability is derived for electrically charged quantum} black holes having large horizon area (compared to Planck area), as an inequality between the mass of the black hole and its microcanonical entropy. The derivation is based on key results of Loop Quantum Gravity and equilibrium statistical mechanics of a grand canonical ensemble, with Gaussian fluctuations around an equilibrium thermal configuration assumed here to be a quantum isolated horizon. No aspect of classical black hole geometry is used to deduce the stability criterion. Since, no particular form of the mass…
In this paper we construct a charged thin-shell gravastar model within the context of noncommutative geometry. To do so, we choose the interior of the nonsingular de Sitter spacetime with an exterior charged noncommutative solution by cut-and-paste technique and apply the generalized junction conditions. We then investigate the stability of a charged thin-shell gravastar under linear perturbations around the static equilibrium solutions as well as the thermodynamical stability of the charged gravastar. We find the stability regions by choosing appropriate parameter values which is located suff…
We study the electromagnetic field equation along with the WKB approximation. The boson tunneling phenomenon from charged rotating black ring(CRBR) is analyzed. It is examined that reserve radiation consistent with CRBR can be computed in general by neglecting back reaction and self-gravitational of the radiated boson particle. The calculated temperature depends upon quantum gravity and CRBR geometry. We also examine the corrected tunneling rate/probability of boson particles by assuming charge as well as energy conservation laws and the quantum gravity. Furthermore, we study the graphical beh…
The stability of a class of electrically charged fluid spheres under radial perturbations is studied. Among these spheres there are regular stars, overcharged tension stars, regular black holes, quasiblack holes, and quasinonblack holes, all of which have a Reissner-Nordström exterior. We formulate the dynamical perturbed equations by following the Chandrasekhar approach and investigate the stability against radial perturbations through numerical methods. It is found that (i) under certain conditions that depend on the adiabatic index of the radial perturbation, there are stable charged stars …
The fundamental role played by black holes in many areas of physics makes it highly important to explore the nature of their stability. The stability of charged Reissner-Nordström black holes to {\it neutral} (gravitational and electromagnetic) perturbations was established almost four decades ago. However, the stability of these charged black holes under {\it charged} perturbations has remained an open question due to the complexity introduced by the well-known phenomena of superradiant scattering: A charged scalar field impinging on a charged Reissner-Nordström black hole can be {\it amplifi…
The superradiant stability of a Kerr-Newman black hole and charged massive scalar perturbation is investigated. We treat the black hole as a background geometry and study the equation of motion of the scalar perturbation. From the radial equation of motion, we derive the effective potential experienced by the scalar perturbation. By a careful analysis of this effective potential, it is found that when the inner and outer horizons of Kerr-Newman black hole satisfy $\frac{r_-}{r_+}\leqslant\frac{1}{3}$ and the charge-to-mass ratios of scalar perturbation and black hole satisfy $ \frac{q}{μ}\frac…
Criteria for thermal stability of charged rotating black holes of any dimension are derived, for horizon areas that are large relative to the Planck area (in these dimensions). The derivation is based on generic assumptions of quantum geometry based on some results of loop quantum gravity, and equilibrium statistical mechanics of the Grand Canonical ensemble. There is no explicit use of classical spacetime geometry in this analysis. The only assumption is that the mass of the black hole is a function of its horizon area, charge and angular momentum. Our stability criteria are then tested in de…
In this paper, the thermodynamics and the stability of horizon of the charged AdS black hole surrounded by quintessence and cloud of strings in d-dimensional spacetime are studied via the scalar field scattering and the charged particle absorption. The cosmological constant is interpreted as a thermodynamics variable. During the study, we consider the case where the energy of the particle(scalar field) is related to the internal energy of the black hole. Furthermore, we also consider another assumption, which is proposed in [Phys. Rev. D 100, no.10, 104022 (2019)]. This assumption considers th…
The entropy principle shows that, for self-gravitating perfect fluid, the Einstein field equations can be derived from the extrema of the total entropy, and the thermodynamical stability criterion are equivalent to the dynamical stability criterion. In this paper, we recast the dynamical criterion for the charged self-gravitating perfect fluid in Einstein-Maxwell theory, and further give the criterion of the star with barotropic condition. In order to obtain the thermodynamical stability criterion, first we get the general formula of the second variation of the total entropy for charged perfec…
This paper develops a new solution of gravitational vacuum star in the background of charged Kiselev black holes as an exterior manifold. We explore physical features and stability of thin-shell gravastars with radial perturbation. The matter thin layer located at thin-shell greatly affects stable configuration of the developed structure. We assume three different choices of matter distribution such as barotropic, generalized Chaplygin gas and generalized phantomlike equation of state. The last two models depend on the shell radius, also known as variable equation of state. For barotropic mode…
