We introduce quasi-BPS categories for twisted Higgs bundles, which are building blocks of the derived category of coherent sheaves on the moduli stack of semistable twisted Higgs bundles over a smooth projective curve. Under some condition (called BPS condition), the quasi-BPS categories are non-commutative analogues of Hitchin integrable systems.
We begin the study of these quasi-BPS categories by focusing on a conjectural symmetry which swaps the Euler characteristic and the weight. Our conjecture is inspired by the Dolbeault Geometric Langlands equivalence of Donagi--Pantev, by the Hausel--Thaddeus mirror symmetry, and by the $χ$-independence phenomenon for BPS invariants of curves on Calabi-Yau threefolds.
We prove our conjecture in the case of rank two and genus zero. In higher genus, we prove a derived equivalence of rank two stable twisted Higgs moduli spaces as a special case of our conjecture.
In a separate paper, we prove a version of our conjecture for the topological K-theory of quasi-BPS categories and we discuss the relation between quasi-BPS categories and BPS invariants of the corresponding local Calabi-Yau threefold.
We define the concept of Pi-stability, a generalization of mu-stability of vector bundles, and argue that it characterizes N=1 supersymmetric brane configurations and BPS states in very general string theory compactifications with N=2 supersymmetry in four dimensions.

We construct explicitly noncommutative deformations of categories of holomorphic line bundles over higher dimensional tori. Our basic tools are Heisenberg modules over noncommutative tori and complex/holomorphic structures on them introduced by A. Schwarz. We obtain differential graded (DG) categories as full subcategories of curved DG categories of Heisenberg modules over the complex noncommutative tori. Also, we present the explicit composition formula of morphisms, which in fact depends on the noncommutativity.
We prove a closed formula for leading Gopakumar- Vafa BPS invariants of local Calabi-Yau geometries given by the canonical line bundles of toric Fano surfaces. It shares some similar features with Goettsche-Yau-Zaslow formula: Connection with Hilbert schemes, connection with quasimodular forms, and quadratic property after suitable transformation. In Part I of this paper we will present the case of projective plane, more general cases will be presented in Part II.
We introduce a class of orders on $P^d$ called Geigle-Lenzing orders and show that they have tilting bundles. Moreover we show that their module categories are equivalent to the categories of coherent sheaves on Geigle-Lenzing spaces introduced in Herschend, Iyama, Minamoto and Oppermann.
We study a class of flat bundles, of finite rank $N$, which arise naturally from the Donaldson-Thomas theory of a Calabi-Yau threefold $X$ via the notion of a variation of BPS structure. We prove that in a large $N$ limit their flat sections converge to the solutions to certain infinite dimensional Riemann-Hilbert problems recently found by Bridgeland. In particular this implies an expression for the positive degree, genus $0$ Gopakumar-Vafa contribution to the Gromov-Witten partition function of $X$ in terms of solutions to confluent hypergeometric differential equations.
We show that the residual categories of quadric surface bundles are equivalent to the (twisted) derived categories of some scheme under the following hypotheses. Case 1: The quadric surface bundle has a smooth section. Case 2: The total space of the quadric surface bundle is smooth and the base is a smooth surface. We provide two proofs in Case 1 describing the scheme as the hyperbolic reduction and as a subscheme of the relative Hilbert scheme of lines, respectively. In Case 2, the twisted scheme is obtained by performing birational transformations to the relative Hilbert scheme of lines. Fin…
We show that a standard conic bundle over a minimal rational surface is rational and its Jacobian splits as the direct sum of Jacobians of curves if and only if its derived category admits a semiorthogonal decomposition by exceptional objects and the derived categories of those curves. Moreover, such a decomposition gives the splitting of the intermediate Jacobian also when the surface is not minimal.
We construct the categories of standard vector bundles over schemes and define direct sum and tensor product. These categories are equivalent to the usual categories of vector bundles with additional properties. The tensor product is strictly associative, strictly commutative with line bundles, and strictly functorial on base change.
We show that the Poincaré bundle gives a fully faithful embedding from the derived category of a curve of sufficiently high genus into the derived category of its moduli space of bundles of rank $r$ with fixed determinant of degree 1. Moreover we show that a twist of the embedding, together with 2 exceptional line bundles, gives the start of a semi-orthogonal decomposition. This generalises results of Narasimhan and Fonarev-Kuznetsov, who embedded the derived category of a single copy of the curve, for rank 2.
The aim of this paper is to establish an equivalence of certain categories of Higgs bundles on a non-isotrivial elliptic surface $π: X \rightarrow C$ with $χ(X) > 0$ and certain categories of Parabolic Higgs bundles on $C$
We consider the compactification of the E8xE8 heterotic string on a K3 surface with "the spin connection embedded in the gauge group" and the dual picture in the type IIA string (or F-theory) on a Calabi-Yau threefold X. It turns out that the same X arises also as dual to a heterotic compactification on 24 point-like instantons. X is necessarily singular, and we see that this singularity allows the Ramond-Ramond moduli on X to split into distinct components, one containing the (dual of the heterotic) tangent bundle, while another component contains the point-like instantons. As a practical app…
We present equivalences between certain categories of vector bundles on projective varieties, namely cokernel bundles, Steiner bundles, syzygy bundles, and monads, and full subcategories of representations of certain quivers. As an application, we provide decomposability criteria for such bundles.
We construct an equivalence of categories from a strong categorical sl(2) action, following the work of Chuang-Rouquier. As an application, we give an explicit, natural equivalence between the derived categories of coherent sheaves on cotangent bundles to complementary Grassmannians.
We show that the projectivization of the exceptional rank 2 vector bundle on an arbitrary smooth V14 Fano threefold after a certain natural flop turns into the projectivization of an instanton vector bundle on a smooth cubic threefold. And vice versa, starting from a smooth cubic threefold with an instanton vector bundle of charge 2 on it we reconstruct V14 threefold. Relying on the geometric properties of the above correspondence we prove that the orthogonals to the exceptional pairs in the bounded derived categories of coherent sheaves on a smooth V14 threefold and on the corresponding cubic…
We show a surprising link between singularity theory and the invariant subspace problem of nilpotent operators as recently studied by C. M. Ringel and M. Schmidmeier, a problem with a longstanding history going back to G. Birkhoff. The link is established via weighted projective lines and (stable) categories of vector bundles on those. The setup yields a new approach to attack the subspace problem. In particular, we deduce the main results of Ringel and Schmidmeier for nilpotency degree p from properties of the category of vector bundles on the weighted projective line of weight type (2,3,p), …
We introduce the notion of (twisted) quiver representations in abelian categories and study the category of such representations. We construct standard resolutions and coresolutions of quiver representations and study basic homological properties of the category of representations. These results are applied in the case of parabolic vector bundles and framed coherent sheaves.
We construct exceptional sequences of line bundles of maximal length on a family of surfaces isogenous to a higher product of unmixed type with $p_g=q=0$.
We show that a triangulated motivic category admits categorical Thom isomorphisms for vector bundles with an additional structure if and only if the generalized motivic cohomology theory represented by the tensor unit object admits Thom classes. We also show that the stable $\mathbb{A}^1$-derived category does not admit Thom isomorphisms for oriented vector bundles and, more generally, for symplectic bundles. In order to do so we compute the first homology sheaves of the motivic sphere spectrum and show that the class in the coefficient ring of $\mathbb{A}^1$-homology corresponding to the seco…
In a work of Costa and Miró-Roig state the following conjecture: Every smooth complete toric Fano variety has a full strongly exceptional collection of line bundles. The goal of this article is to prove it for toric Fano 3-folds.
We give a complete description of the two-dimensional moduli spaces of stable Higgs bundles of rank 2 over complex projective line with one irregular singular point, having a regular leading-order term, and endowed with a generic compatible parabolic structure such that the parabolic degree of the Higgs bundle is 0. Our method relies on elliptic fibrations of the rational elliptic surface, an equivalence of categories between irregular Higgs bundles and some sheaves on a ruled surface, and an analysis of stability conditions.
We construct five families of two-dimensional moduli spaces of parabolic Higgs bundles (respectively local systems) by taking the equivariant Hilbert scheme of a certain finite group acting on the cotangent bundle of an elliptic curve. We show that the Hilbert scheme of m points of these surfaces is again a moduli space of parabolic Higgs bundles (respectively local systems), confirming a conjecture of Boalch in these cases and extending a result of Gorsky--Nekrasov--Rubtsov. Using the McKay correspondence we establish the autoduality conjecture for the derived categories of the moduli spaces …
We prove that the derived category $D(C)$ of a generic curve of genus greater than one embeds into the derived category $D(M)$ of the moduli space $M$ of rank two stable bundles on $C$ with fixed determinant of odd degree.
We study matrix factorizations of a section W of a line bundle on an algebraic stack. We relate the corresponding derived category (the category of D-branes of type B in the Landau-Ginzburg model with potential W) with the singularity category of the zero locus of W generalizing a theorem of Orlov. We use this result to construct push-forward functors for matrix factorizations with relatively proper support.
