Let $X\subset\A^{2r}$ be a real curve embedded into an even-dimensional affine space. In the main result of this paper, we characterise when the r-th secant variety to $X$ is an irreducible component of the algebraic boundary of the convex hull of the real points $X(\R)$ of $X$. This fact is then applied to 4-dimensional SO(2)-orbitopes and to the so called Barvinok-Novik orbitopes to study when they are basic closed as semi-algebraic sets. We study two components of the boundary of the compactification of the variety I_3 of instantons of degree three. We use the desciption of I_3 as symetric (involutive) cubo-cubic transforms deduced from the Beilinson monade. It involves some geometry of curves and surfaces in P^3. This allows us to distinguish two irreducible components which are in the closure of involutive cubo-cubic transforms. It gives us two irreducible components of the boundary of I_3. Moreover, we show that the cubo-cubic transforms of one of these components are the inverse of the other one.

We study the boundary behavior of the invariant of $K3^{[2]}$-type manifolds with antisymplectic involution, which we obtained using equivariant analytic torsion. We show the algebraicity of the singularity of the invariant by using the asymptotic of equivariant Quillen metrics and equivariant $L^2$-metrics. We prove that, in some cases, the invariant coincides with Yoshikawa's invariant for 2-elementary K3 surfaces. Hence, in these cases, our invariant is expressed as the Petersson norm of a Borcherds product and a Siegel modular form.

We give a recursive formula, expressed in terms of the characteristic tuples, for the Betti numbers of the boundary of the Milnor fiber of an irreducible quasi-ordinary surface. The singular locus of the surface consists of two components, and for each component we introduce a sequence of increasingly simpler surfaces. Our recursion depends on a detailed comparison of these two sequences. We indicate how we expect pieces of these associated surfaces to glue together to reconstruct the Milnor fiber and its boundary.
