We study two components of the boundary of the compactification of the variety I_3 of instantons of degree three. We use the desciption of I_3 as symetric (involutive) cubo-cubic transforms deduced from the Beilinson monade. It involves some geometry of curves and surfaces in P^3. This allows us to distinguish two irreducible components which are in the closure of involutive cubo-cubic transforms. It gives us two irreducible components of the boundary of I_3. Moreover, we show that the cubo-cubic transforms of one of these components are the inverse of the other one.
We study semistable sheaves of rank $2$ with Chern classes $c_1=0$, $c_2=2$ and $c_3=0$ on the Fano 3-fold $V_5$ of Picard number $1$, degree $5$ and index $2$. We show that the moduli space of such sheaves has a component that is isomorphic to $\mathbb{P}^5$ by identifying it with the moduli space of semistable quiver representations. This provides a natural smooth compactification of the moduli space of minimal instantons, as well as Ulrich bundles of rank $2$ on $V_5$.
We study semi-stable sheaves of rank $2$ with Chern class $c_1=0$, $c_2=2$ and $c_3=0$ on the Fano 3-folds $V_4$ of Picard number $1$, degree $4$ and index $2$. We show the moduli space of such sheaves is isomorphic to the moduli space of semi-stable rank $2$ even degree vector bundles on a genus $2$ curve. This provides a natural smooth compatification of the moduli space of Ulrich bundles of rank $2$ on $V_4$.
Let $M^K_n$ be the moduli space of framed $K$-instantons over $S^4$ with instanton number $n$ when $K$ is a compact simple Lie group of classical type. Let $U^{K}_{n}$ be the Uhlenbeck partial compactification of $M^{K}_{n}$. A scheme structure on $U^{K}_{n}$ is endowed by Donaldson as an algebro-geometric Hamiltonian reduction of ADHM data. In this paper, for $K=SO(N,R)$, $N\ge5$, we prove that $U^{K}_{n}$ is an irreducible normal variety with smooth locus $M^{K}_{n}$. Hence, together with the author's previous result, the K-theoretic Nekrasov partition function for any simple classical group…
We provide a complete motivic decomposition of a twisted form of a smooth hyperplane section of Gr(3,6). This variety is a norm variety corresponding to a (3,3)-symbol.
We show that a certain compactification $\mathfrak{X}_g$ of the $\mathrm{SL}_2(\mathbb{C})$ free group character variety $\mathcal{X}(F_g, \mathrm{SL}_2(\mathbb{C}))$ is Fano. This compactification has been studied previously by the second author, and separately by Biswas, Lawton, and Ramras. Part of the proof of this result involves the construction of a large family of integral reflexive polytopes.
Here we focus on the geometry of $\pdgbar$, the compactification of the universal Picard variety constructed by L. Caporaso. In particular, we show that the moduli space of spin curves constructed by M. Cornalba naturally injects into $\pdgbar$ and we give generators and relations of the rational divisor class group of $\pdgbar$, extending previous work by A. Kouvidakis.
We study the moduli-dependent prefactor of M5-instanton corrections to the superpotential in four-dimensional F-theory compactifications. In light of the M-theory and type IIb limits and also heterotic duality, we propose that the explicit moduli dependence of the prefactor can be computed by a study of zero modes localized at intersections between the instanton and seven-branes. We present an instanton prefactor in an E_6 F-theory GUT which does not admit a heterotic dual and show that it vanishes if and only if a point of E_8 enhancement is present in the instanton worldvolume. More generica…
We present a construction of framed torsion free instanton sheaves on a projective variety containing a fixed line which further generalizes the one on projective spaces. This is done by generalizing the so called ADHM variety. We show that the moduli space of such objects is a quasi projective variety, which is fine in the case of projective spaces. We also give an ADHM categorical description of perverse instanton sheaves in the general case, along with a hypercohomological characterization of these sheaves in the particular case of projective spaces.
We construct a family of compactifications of the affine cone of the Grassmannian variety of 2-planes. We show that both the tropical variety of the Plücker ideal and familiar valuations associated to the construction of Newton-Okounkov bodies for the Grassmannian variety can be recovered from these compactifications. In this way, we unite various perspectives for constructing toric degenerations of flag varieties.
We give an affirmative answer to a conjecture proposed by Tevelev in characteristic 0 case: any variety contains a schön very affine open subvariety. Also we show that any fan supported on the tropicalization of a schön very affine variety produces a schön compactification. Using toric schemes over a discrete valuation ring, we extend tropical compatifications to the non-constant coefficient case.
We study torus-equivariant vector bundles $E$ on a complex projective variety $X$ which is either a Bott-Samelson-Demazure-Hansen variety or a wonderful compactification of a complex symmetric variety of minimal rank. We show that $E$ is nef (respectively, ample) if and only if its restriction to every torus--invariant curve in $X$ is nef (respectively, ample). We also compute the Seshadri constants $\varepsilon(E,x)$, where $x\, \in\, X$ is any point fixed by the action of a maximal torus.
Instanton bundles on $\mathbb{P}^3$ have been at the core of the research in Algebraic Geometry during the last thirty years. Motivated by the recent extension of their definition to other Fano threefolds of Picard number one, we develop the theory of instanton bundles on the complete flag variety $F:=F(0,1,2)$ of point-lines on $\mathbb{P}^2$. After giving for them two different monadic presentations, we use it to show that the moduli space $MI_F(k)$ of instanton bundles of charge $k$ is a geometric GIT quotient and the open subspace $MI^s_F(k)\subset MI_F(k)$ of stable instanton bundles has …
We use the recursive structure of the compactification of the instanton moduli space of N=2 Super Yang-Mills theory with gauge group SU(2), to construct, by inductive limit, a universal moduli space which includes all the multi-instanton moduli spaces. Furthermore, with the aim of understanding the field theoretic structure of the strong coupling expansion, we perform the Borel sum which acts on the parameter defining such a universal moduli space.
The main goal of this work is to construct and study a reasonable compactification of the strata of the moduli space of Abelian differentials. This allows us to compute the Kodaira dimension of some strata of the moduli space of Abelian differentials. The main ingredients to study the compactifications of the strata are a version of the plumbing cylinder construction for differential forms and an extension of the parity of the connected components of the strata to the differentials on curves of compact type. We study in detail the compactifications of the hyperelliptic minimal strata and of th…
We prove compactification theorems for some complete Kähler manifolds with nonnegative Ricci curvature. Among other things, we prove that a complete noncompact Kähler Ricci flat manifold with maximal volume growth and quadratic curvature decay is a crepant resolution of a normal affine algebraic variety. Furthermore, such affine variety degenerates in two steps to the unique metric tangent cone at infinity.
