We derive a necessary and sufficient condition on a hyperplane arrangement in $\mathbb{P}^n$ for the associated logarithmic cotangent bundle to be ample modulo boundary. We extend this result to the orbifold setting and give some applications concerning hyperbolicity of pairs. We improve significantly the results of Darondeau-Rousseau.
We define and study jet bundles in the geometric orbifold category. We show that the usual arguments from the compact and the logarithmic settings do not all extend to this more general framework. This is illustrated by simple examples of orbifold pairs of general type that do not admit any global jet differential, even if some of these examples satisfy the Green-Griffiths-Lang conjecture. This contrasts with an important result of Demailly (2010) proving that compact varieties of general type always admit jet differentials. We illustrate the usefulness of the study of orbifold jets by establi…
We prove that the Green--Griffiths--Demailly (GGD) hyperbolicity thresholds are structurally invariant. In other words, the minimal jet order and asymptotic growth rate at which invariant jet differentials appear remain unchanged when passing from a compact complex manifold to any compact smooth analytic Deligne--Mumford stack (orbifold) with the same coarse Kähler class. We establish an orbifold Riemann--Roch formula showing that only the identity sector contributes to the leading $m^n$ term of the Euler characteristic $χ$, while all twisted sectors contribute only $O(m^{n-1})$. Together with…
In this paper, we prove that in any projective manifold, the complements of general hypersurfaces of sufficiently large degree are Kobayashi hyperbolic. We also provide an effective lower bound on the degree. This confirms a conjecture by S. Kobayashi in 1970. Our proof, based on the theory of jet differentials, is obtained by reducing the problem to the construction of a particular example with strong hyperbolicity properties. This approach relies the construction of higher order logarithmic connections allowing us to construct logarithmic Wronskians. These logarithmic Wronskians are the buil…
In this work, we investigate the positivity of logarithmic and orbifold cotangent bundles along hyperplane arrangements in projective spaces. We show that a very interesting example given by Noguchi (as early as in 1986) can be pushed further to a very great extent. Key ingredients of our approach are the use of Fermat covers and the production of explicit global symmetric differentials. This allows us to obtain some new results in the vein of several classical results of the literature on hyperplane arrangements. These seem very natural using the modern point of view of augmented base loci, a…
We discuss the behavior of Landau-Ginzburg models for toric orbifolds near the large volume limit. This enables us to express mirror symmetry as an isomorphism of Frobenius manifolds which aquire logarithmic poles along a boundary divisor. If the toric orbifold admits a crepant resolution we construct a global moduli space on the B-side and show that the associated tt^*-geometry exists globally.
We introduce the concept of directed orbifold, namely triples (X, V, D) formed by a directed algebraic or analytic variety (X, V), and a ramification divisor D, where V is a coherent subsheaf of the tangent bundle TX. In this context, we introduce an algebra of orbifold jet differentials and their sections. These jet sections can be seen as algebraic differential operators acting on germs of curves, with meromorphic coefficients, whose poles are supported by D and multiplicities are bounded by the ramification indices of the components of D. We estimate precisely the curvature tensor of the co…
Given an ideal $\mathcal I$ on a variety $X$ with toroidal singularities, we produce a modification $X' \to X$, functorial for toroidal morphisms, making the ideal monomial on a toroidal stack $X'$. We do this by adapting the methods of [Wło05], discarding steps which become redundant. We deduce functorial resolution of singularities for varieties with logarithmic structures. This is the first step in our program to apply logarithmic desingularization to a morphism $Z \to B$, aiming to prove functorial semistable reduction theorems.
Proven by A. Parshin and S. Arakelov in the early 70's, Shafaverich hyperbolicity conjecture states that a family of curves of genus $g\ge2$ parametrized by a non hyperbolic curve (\emph{i.e.} isomorphic to $\mathbb{P}^1$, $\mathbb{C}$, $\mathbb{C}^*$ or an elliptic curve) has to be isotrivial : the moduli of smooth fibres are constant. In higher dimensions, Viehweg's works on moduli of canonically polarized manifolds led him to generalize this statement in the following way: if a family of canonically polarized manifolds (parametrized by a quasi-projective base) has maximal variation, the bas…
