In the present paper, we give a complete description of the group of holomorphic automorphisms of the Cox construction of a simplicial fan equivariant with respect to a large enough connected complex Lie subgroup of the large torus acting on the Cox construction. We then apply this description to find the groups of holomorphic automorphisms of rational moment-angle manifolds, including Calabi--Eckmann manifolds and Hopf manifolds. We also calculate the groups of equivariant automorphisms of complete simplicial toric varieties. This paper is the first in a series of two papers dedicated to studying the automorphism groups of toric stacks with applications to complex geometry.
We define the equivariant Cox ring of a normal variety with algebraic group action. We study algebraic and geometric aspects of this object and show how it is related to the ordinary Cox ring. Then, we specialize to the case of normal rational varieties of complexity one under the action of a connected reductive group G. We show that the G-equivariant Cox ring is then a finitely generated integral normal G-algebra. Under a mild additional condition, we give a presentation by generators and relations of its subalgebra of U-invariants, where U is the unipotent part of a Borel subgroup of G. The …
We study the Cox realization of an affine variety, i.e., a canonical representation of a normal affine variety with finitely generated divisor class group as a quotient of a factorially graded affine variety by an action of the Neron-Severi quasitorus. The realization is described explicitly for the quotient space of a linear action of a finite group. A universal property of this realization is proved, and some results on the divisor theory of an abstract semigroup emerging in this context are given. We show that each automorphism of an affine variety can be lifted to an automorphism of the Co…
For a relatively minimal surface fibration $f: X\to C$, the equivariant automorphism group of $f$ is, roughly speaking, the group of automorphisms of $X$ preserving the fibration structure. We present a classification of such fibrations of fibre genus $g\ge 1$ with smooth generic fibre over an arbitrary algebraically closed field $\mathbf{k}$ whose equivariant automorphism group is infinite.
Thanks to the theory of Coxeter groups, we produce the first family of Calabi-Yau manifolds $X$ of arbitrary dimension $n$, for which $\Bir(X)$ is infinite and the Kawamata-Morrison movable cone conjecture is satisfied. For this family, the movable cone is explicitly described; it's fractal nature is related to limit sets of Kleinian groups and to the Apollonian Gasket. Then, we produce explicit examples of (biregular) automorphisms with positive entropy on some Calabi-Yau manifolds.
We characterize the irreducible polynomials that occur as a characteristic polynomial of an automorphism of an even unimodular lattice of given signature, generalizing a theorem of Gross and McMullen. As part of the proof, we give a general criterion in terms of Witt groups for a bilinear form equipped with an action of a group G over a discretely valued field to contain a unimodular G-stable lattice.
The Getzler's formula relates the S_n-equivariant Hodge-Deligne polynomial of the space of ordered tuples of distinct points on a given variety X with the Hodge-Deligne polynomial of X. We obtain the analogue of this formula for the case when X has a nontrivial automorphism group. Collecting together all strata of $\mathcal{M}_2$ with different automorphism groups, we derive a formula for the S_n-equivariant Euler characteristic of $\mathcal{M}_{2,n}$.
Let $X$ be a projective surface or a hyperkähler manifold and $G \le Aut(X)$. We give a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of a non-trivial $G$-equivariant fibration on $X$. We also show that two automorphisms $g_i$ of positive entropy and polarized by the same nef divisor are the same up to powers, provided that either $X$ is not an abelian surface or the $g_i$ share at least one common periodic point. The surface case is known among experts, but we treat this case together with the hyperkähler case using the same language of hyperbolic lattice and following Ratcliffe or Ogu…
Let $γ$ be an automorphism of a polarized complex projective manifold $(M,L)$. Then $γ$ induces an automorphism $γ_k$ of the space of global holomorphic sections of the $k$-th tensor power of $L$, for every $k=1,2,...$; for $k\gg 0$, the Lefschetz fixed point formula expresses the trace of $γ_k$ in terms of fixed point data. More generally, one may consider the composition of $γ_k$ with the Toeplitz operator associated to some smooth function on $M$. Still more generally, in the presence of the compatible action of a compact and connected Lie group preserving $(M,L,γ)$, one may consider induce…
In this paper we study the geometry of the $14$ families of K3 surfaces of Picard number four with finite automorphism group, whose Néron-Severi lattices have been classified by È.B. Vinberg. We provide projective models, we identify the degrees of a generating set of the Cox ring and in some cases we prove the unirationality of the associated moduli space.
We identify a certain universal Landau-Ginzburg model as a mirror of the big equivariant quantum cohomology of a (not necessarily compact or semipositive) toric manifold. The mirror map and the primitive form are constructed via Seidel elements and shift operators for equivariant quantum cohomology. Primitive forms in non-equivariant theory are identified up to automorphisms of the mirror.
We present an algorithm to compute the automorphism group of a Mori dream space. As an example calculation, we determine the automorphism groups of singular cubic surfaces with general parameters. The strategy is to study graded automorphisms of affine algebras graded by a finitely generated abelian groups and apply the results to the Cox ring. Besides the application to Mori dream spaces, our results could be used for symmetry based computing, e.g. for Gröbner bases or tropical varieties.
For a variety $X$, a big $\mathbb{Q}$-divisor $L$ and a closed connected subgroup $G \subset \mathrm{Aut}(X, L)$ we define a $G$-invariant version of the $δ$-threshold. We prove that for a Fano variety $(X, -K_X)$ and a connected subgroup $G \subset \mathrm{Aut}(X)$ this invariant characterizes $G$-equivariant uniform $K$-stability. We also use this invariant to investigate $G$-equivariant $K$-stability of some Fano varieties with large groups of symmetries, including spherical Fano varieties. We also consider the case of $G$ being a finite group.
Let $X$ be a compact complex manifold in Fujiki's class $\mathcal{C}$, i.e., admitting a big $(1,1)$-class $[α]$. Consider $\text{Aut}(X)$ the group of biholomorphic automorphisms and $\text{Aut}_{[α]}(X)$ the subgroup of automorphisms preserving the class $[α]$ via pullback. We show that $X$ admits an $\text{Aut}_{[α]}(X)$-equivariant Kähler model: there is a bimeromorphic holomorphic map $σ\colon \widetilde{X}\to X$ from a Kähler manifold $\widetilde{X}$ such that $\text{Aut}_{[α]}(X)$ lifts holomorphically via $σ$. There are several applications. We show that $\text{Aut}_{[α]}(X)$ is a Lie …
Let $G$ be a finite group acting effectively on the complex affine plane. If the $G$-action commutes with an étale endomorphism $f$ of the affine plane and the order of $G$ is even then the endomorphism $f$ is an automorphism.
Let $G$ be a reductive group. We prove that a family of polynomial actions of $G$ on $\mathbb{C}^2$, holomorphically parametrized by an open Riemann surface, is linearizable. As an application, we show that a particular class of reductive group actions on $\mathbb{C}^3$ is linearizable. The main step of our proof is to establish a certain restrictive Oka property for groups of equivariant algebraic automorphisms of $\mathbb{C}^2$.
We classify rational surfaces for which the image of the automorphisms group in the group of linear transformations of the Picard group is the largest possible. This answers a question raised by Arthur Coble in 1928, and can be rephrased in terms of periodic orbits of a birational action of an infinite Coxeter group on ordered point sets in the projective plane modulo projective equivalence. We also outline the classification of non-rational surfaces with large automorphism groups.
We show that a compact Kaehler manifold X is a complex torus if both the continuous part and discrete part of some automorphism group G of X are infinite groups, unless X is bimeromorphic to a non-trivial G-equivariant fibration. Some applications to dynamics are given.
We study equivariant affine embeddings of homogeneous spaces and their equivariant automorphisms. An example of a quasiaffine, but not affine, homogeneous space with finitely many equivariant automorphisms is presented. We prove the solvability of any connected group of equivariant automorphisms for an affine embedding with a fixed point and finitely many orbits. This is applied to studying the orbital decomposition for algebraic monoids and canonical embeddings of quasiaffine homogeneous spaces, i.e., those affine embeddings associated with the coordinate algebras of homogeneous spaces, provi…
We study faithful actions with a dense orbit of abelian unipotent groups on quintic del Pezzo varieties over a field of characteristic zero. Such varieties are forms of linear sections of the Grassmannian of planes in a 5-dimensional vector space. We characterize which smooth forms admit these types of actions and show that in case of existence, the action is unique up to equivalence by automorphisms. We also give a similar classification for mildly singular quintic del Pezzo threefolds and surfaces.
Let $D$ be a domain in $C^n$ and $G$ a topological group which acts effectively on $D$ by holomorphic automorphisms. In this paper we are interested in projective linearizations of the action of $G$, i.e. a linear representation of $G$ in some $C^{N+1}$ and an equivariant imbedding of $D$ into $¶^N$ with respect to this representation. The domains we discuss here are open connected sets defined by finitely many real polynomial inequalities or connected finite unions of such sets. Assume that the group $G$ acts by birational automorphisms. Our main result is the equivalence of the following con…
We study the actions of a Lie group $G$ by birationally extendible automorphisms on a domain $D\subset C^n$. For a large class of such domains defined by polynomial inequalities, all automorphisms are of this type. In the cases 1) $G$ has finitely many components or 2) the degree of the automorphisms is bounded, we prove that the action of $G$ is projectively linearizable, i.e. there exist a linear representation of $G$ on some $ C^{N+1}$ and a holomorphic $G$-equivariant embedding $i: D\to P^N$, which is a restriction of a rational mapping. As a corollary we obtain as many rational invariant …
For a smooth finite cyclic covering over a projective space of dimension greater than one, we show that the group of automorphisms acts faithfully on the cohomology except for a few cases. In characteristic zero, we study the equivariant deformation theory and automorphism groups for complex cyclic coverings. The proof uses the decomposition of the sheaf of differential forms due to Esnault and Viehweg. In positive characteristics, a lifting criterion of automorphisms reduces the faithfulness problem to characteristic zero. To apply this criterion, we prove the degeneration of the Hodge-de Rha…
We prove two results about the natural representation of a group G of automorphisms of a normal projective threefold X on its second cohomology. We show that if X is minimal then G, modulo a normal subgroup of null entropy, is embedded as a Zariski-dense subset in a semi-simple real linear algebraic group of real rank < 3. Next, we show that X is a complex torus if the image of G is an almost abelian group of positive rank and the kernel is infinite, unless X is equivariantly non-trivially fibred.
Let $G$ be an algebraic group and $Γ$ a finite subgroup of automorphisms of $G$. Fix also a possibly ramified $Γ$-covering $\widetilde{X} \to X$. In this setting one may define the notion of $(Γ,G)$-bundles over $\widetilde{X}$ and, in this paper, we give a description of these objects in terms of $\mathcal{H}$-bundles on $X$, for an appropriate group $\mathcal{H}$ over $X$ which depends on the local type of the $(Γ,G)$-bundles we intend to parametrize. This extends, and along the way clarifies, an earlier work of Balaji and Seshadri.
