In this paper we develop a general approach to dimer models analogous to Krichever's scheme in the theory of integrable systems. We start with a Riemann surface and the simplest generic meromorphic functions on it and demonstrate how to obtain integrable dimer models. These are dimer models on doubly periodic bipartite graphs with quasi-periodic positive weights. Dimer models with periodic weights and Harnack curves are recovered as a special case. This generalization from Harnack curves to general M-curves leads to transparent algebro-geometric structures. In particular explicit formulas for the Ronkin function and surface tension as integrals of meromorphic differentials on M-curves are obtained. Furthermore we describe the variational principle for the height function in the quasi-periodic case. Based on Schottky uniformizations of Riemann surfaces we present concrete computational results including computing the weights and sampling dimer configurations with them. The computational results are in complete agreement with the theoretical predictions.
In this paper we study the connection between dimers and Harnack curves discovered in math-ph/0311005. We prove that every Harnack curve arises as a spectral curve of some dimer model. We also prove that the space of Harnack curve of given degree is homeomorphic to a closed octant and that the areas of the amoeba holes and the distances between the amoeba tentacles give these global coordinates. We characterize Harnack curves of genus zero as spectral curves of isoradial dimers and also as minimizers of the volume under their Ronkin function with given boundary conditions.
We study random surfaces which arise as height functions of random perfect matchings (a.k.a. dimer configurations) on an weighted, bipartite, doubly periodic graph G embedded in the plane. We derive explicit formulas for the surface tension and local Gibbs measure probabilities of these models. The answers involve a certain plane algebraic curve, which is the spectral curve of the Kasteleyn operator of the graph. For example, the surface tension is the Legendre dual of the Ronkin function of the spectral curve. The amoeba of the spectral curve represents the phase diagram of the dimer model. F…
The number of monomers, in a monomer-dimer mean-field model with an attractive potential, fluctuates according to the central limit theorem when the parameters are outside the critical curve. At the critical point the model belongs to the same universality class of the mean-field ferromagnet. Along the critical curve the monomer and dimer phases coexist.
This paper provides a comprehensive study of the dimer model on infinite minimal graphs with Fock's elliptic weights [arXiv:1503.00289]. Specific instances of such models were studied in [arXiv:052711, arXiv:1612.09082, arXiv1801.00207]; we now handle the general genus 1 case, thus proving a non-trivial extension of the genus 0 results of [arXiv:math-ph/0202018, arXiv:math/0311062] on isoradial critical models. We give an explicit local expression for a two-parameter family of inverses of the Kasteleyn operator with no periodicity assumption on the underlying graph. When the minimal graph sati…
We introduce a correspondence between dimer models (and hence superconformal quivers) and the quantum Teichmuller space of the Riemann surfaces associated to them by mirror symmetry. Via the untwisting map, every brane tiling gives rise to a tiling of the Riemann surface with faces surrounding punctures. We explain how to obtain an ideal triangulation by dualizing this tiling. In order to do so, tiling nodes of valence greater than 3 (equivalently superpotential terms of order greater than 3 in the corresponding quiver gauge theories) must be decomposed by the introduction of 2-valent nodes. F…
We study a large class of critical two-dimensional Ising models namely critical Z-invariant Ising models on periodic graphs, example of which are the classical square, triangular and honeycomb lattice at the critical temperature. Fisher introduced a correspondence between the Ising model and the dimer model on a decorated graph, thus setting dimer techniques as a powerful tool for understanding the Ising model. In this paper, we give a full description of the dimer model corresponding to the critical Z-invariant Ising model. We prove that the dimer characteristic polynomial is equal (up to a c…
We study the octahedron relation (also known as the $A_{\infty}$ $T$-system), obeyed in particular by the partition function for dimer coverings of the Aztec Diamond graph. For a suitable class of doubly periodic initial conditions, we find exact solutions with a particularly simple factorized form. For these, we show that the density function that measures the average dimer occupation of a face of the Aztec graph, obeys a system of linear recursion relations with periodic coefficients. This allows us to explore the thermodynamic limit of the corresponding dimer models and to derive exact "arc…

We introduce a new class of discrete approximations of planar domains that we call "hedgehog domains". In particular, this class of approximations contains two-step Aztec diamonds and similar shapes. We show that fluctuations of the height function of a random dimer tiling on hedgehog discretizations of a planar domain converge in the scaling limit to the Gaussian Free Field with Dirichlet boundary conditions. Interestingly enough, in this case the dimer model coupling function satisfies the same Riemann-type boundary conditions as fermionic observables in the Ising model. In addition, using t…
Let S be a flat surface of genus g with cone type singularities. Given a bipartite graph G isoradially embedded in S, we define discrete analogs of the 2^{2g} Dirac operators on S. These discrete objects are then shown to converge to the continuous ones, in some appropriate sense. Finally, we obtain necessary and sufficient conditions on the pair (S,G) for these discrete Dirac operators to be Kasteleyn matrices of the graph G. As a consequence, if these conditions are met, the partition function of the dimer model on G can be explicitly written as an alternating sum of the determinants of thes…
