Nickel (II) oxide, NiO, a wide band gap Mott insulator characterized by strong Coulomb repulsion between d-electrons and displaying antiferromagnetic order at room temperature, has gained attention in recent years as a very promising candidate for applications in a broad set of areas, including chemistry and metallurgy to spintronics and energy harvesting. Here, we report on the synthesis of polycrystalline NiO fabricated using spray-pyrolysis technique, which is a deposition technique able to produce quite uniform films of pure and crystalline materials without the need of high vacuum or inert atmospheres. We then characterized the composition and structure of our NiO thin films using X-ray diffraction, and atomic force and scanning electron microscopies, respectively. We completed our study by looking at the phononic and magnonic properties of our NiO thin films via Raman spectroscopy, and at the ultrafast electron dynamics by using optical pump probe spectroscopy. We found that our NiO samples display the same phononic and magnonic dispersion expected for single crystal NiO at room temperature, and that electron dynamics in our system is similar to those of previously reported NiO mono- and poli-crystalline systems synthesized with different techniques. These results prove that spray-pyrolysis can be used as affordable and large-scale fabrication technique to synthetize strongly correlated materials for a large set of applications.
High oxidation potential indicates anodes have high oxidation power and high current efficiency for organics oxidation. In this paper, we prepared Ti/Cu-SnO2 anodes using spray pyrolysis method. The Ti/Cu-SnO2 anodes have an ultra-high oxidation potential of about 2.7 V vs NHE, suitable for use in wastewater treatment. The Ti/Cu-SnO2 anodes exhibit the preferred orientation along (110) plane at high Cu doped concentration. First-principles calculations suggest that work function of Cu-SnO2 increases with the Cu doping concentration. It is obtained that the preferred (110) plane and the high wo…
Thin films of uniformly distributed Fe2O3 nanoparticles have been prepared on single crystal silicon and glass substrates by a spray pyrolysis technique in a single step using a mixture of water and ferrocene dissolved in xylene. The size distribution of nanoparticles is found to be in the range of 20 nm to 30 nm. The films have been characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and Raman spectroscopy techniques. The uniformity of the grown film was evident from the electron microscopic images on both the substrates. The crystallinity and band gap were investigated using X-r…
The Fe-doped CuO thin films were deposited onto glass substrates by Spray pyrolysis technique. The structural, micro-structural, optical and electrical properties of the synthesized samples were investigated in details. The X-Ray diffraction (XRD), Raman and Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, confirmed that the studied samples exhibit single phase monoclinic structure of CuO. The UV-VIS spectrophotometer mentioned that the transmittance increases to 80 % when increasing the Fe concentration. Furthermore, the band gap energy of the obtained CuO was 1.29 eV. This value was slightly …
Nickel and antimony co-doped Ti/SnO2 (Ti/Ni-Sb-SnO2) anodes were prepared by spray pyrolysis. Effects of nickel concentration on the structure and onset potential for oxygen evolution of Ti/Ni-Sb-SnO2 anodes have been systematically investigated. XRD analyses suggest that SnO2 thin films grow in preferential orientation along (101) plane as the nickel concentration increases. The enhanced onset potential of oxygen is above 2.4 V vs NHE due to the introduction of nickel doping, and increases slightly with the nickel concentration. The calculated results show that work function of Ni/Sb co-doped…
In the present study, Mg-doped ZnO (MZO) nanofilms (NF) were grown by spray pyrolysis technique. X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns have shown an intense peak oriented along (002) crystalline plane confirming crystalline origin of grown MZO films. Atomic force microscopy (AFM) data revealed that the average roughness decreased significantly upon Mg doping from 20.3 nm to 4.72 nm. Ambient temperature photoluminescence spectra accounted for four emission bands in the visible spectral region due to the presence of various intrinsic defect centres in the films. The non-linear absorption coefficient …
We report on a comprehensive theoretical and experimental investigation of thermal conductivity in indium-tin-oxide (ITO) thin films with various Ga concentrations (0-30 at. %) deposited by spray pyrolysis technique. X-Ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy have shown a structural transformation in the range 15-20 at. % Ga from the nanocrystalline to the amorphous phase. Room temperature femtosecond time domain thermoreflectance measurements showed nonlinear decrease of thermal conductivity in the range 2.0-0.5 W/(m K) depending on Ga doping level. Comparing density functional …

Laser stimulated second and third harmonic generation effects in Fluorine doped tin oxide (F:SnO2) nanostructures versus the fluorine content is presented. The F:SnO2 nanostructures have been fabricated at various fluorine doping concentrations by spray pyrolysis technique. The films exhibit polycrystalline nature with a preferential growth orientation along (1 1 0) diffraction plane as evident from x-ray diffraction studies. The optical transmittance of the F:SnO2 films has increased from 68 percent to 80 percent. Photoluminescence studies revealed that strong violet emission peak corresponds…
In this work, nonlinear optical properties of Na: ZnO thin films (Na: ZnO) have been experimentally elaborated. The principal possibility to operate the nonlinear optical features using external laser beams is shown. The Na: ZnO films were synthesized by spray pyrolysis technique at a deposition temperature equal to about 400 C. XRD graph reveals that the grown films were polycrystalline in nature with a dominant peak corresponding to (0 0 2) plane. Despite the difference in the ionic radii of the Na and Zn, an angle shift in the XRD peak was not observed, whereas there was a significant chang…
The modification and tailoring the characteristics of nanostructured materials are of great interest due to controllable and unusual inherent properties in such materials. A simple spray pyrolysis technique is used to prepare pure and La-doped ZnO films. The influence of La concentration (0, 0.33, 0.45, 0.66, 0.92 and 1.04 at. %) on the structural, optical, and magnetic properties of ZnO was investigated. The exact nominal compositions of the prepared films were determined from the field emission scanning electron microscope occupied with EDX. X-ray diffraction confirmed that the samples posse…
In this study, we have delineated the preparation and influence of Fe doping on microstructural and optical properties of the pristine and Fe incorporated TiO$_2$ thin film with different Fe concentrations (0, 2, 4, 6, and 8 at.% ). The samples are prepared by easier and cost-saving way of spray pyrolysis technique (SPT) using Ti(OCH$_2$CH$_2$CH$_2$CH$_3$)$_4$ as a precursor of mother material. The effect of Fe in the microstructure and phase formation of TiO$_2$ thin films is investigated by XRD analysis. XRD investigation depicts that the pristine product corresponds to anatase phase of TiO$…
