In this study, we present a novel approach to mimetic gravity incorporating a non-zero nonmetricity tensor with vanishing torsion and curvature, establishing a generalized mimetic-$f(Q)$ gravity framework. Using the Lagrange multiplier method, we have obtained and discussed characteristics of the theory's field equations. In order to study cosmic evolution given by the hybrid scale factor, we implemented the reconstruction method in two different ways. In the first case, we have obtained corresponding Lagrange multiplier $η$ and potential $U$ for the specific $f(Q)=f(Q)=Q-6λM^2\big(\frac{Q}{6M^2}\big)^α$ function, while in the second scenario we have recovered $f(Q)$ functional and mimetic potential for the given Lagrange multiplier $η_0+γH^2$. Subsequently, we explore the fundamental properties of the $f(Q)=Q-6λM^2\big(\frac{Q}{6M^2}\big)^α$ model and analyse the energy conditions to establish its validity. Our findings indicate that the framework introduced herein allows for the derivation of a wide range of viable cosmological models that satisfy energy constraints that are necessary in description of the accelerated expansion.
In this work we explore two possible scenarios that can be considered to extend a recent proposed model by the authors known as reconstructed mimetic cosmology. This study is complemented with an statistical analysis for each case. The first scenario considers the inclusion of matter production as a possible source of cosmic expansion in the reconstructed mimetic model, at effective level was found that this construction can cross the phantom divide, the model evolves from quintessence to phantom dark energy. The second scenario corresponds to a construction of an interacting scheme for the da…
In the framework of the mimetic approach, we study the $f(R,R_{μν}R^{μν})$ gravity with the Lagrange multiplier constraint and the scalar potential. We introduce field equations for the discussed theory and overview their properties. By using the general reconstruction scheme we obtain the power law cosmology model for the $f(R,R_{μν}R^{μν})=R+d(R_{μν}R^{μν})^p$ case as well as the model that describes symmetric bounce. Moreover, we reconstruct model, unifying both matter dominated and accelerated phases, where ordinary matter is neglected. Using inverted reconstruction scheme we recover speci…
We explore the mimetic gravity formulation with the inclusion of a scalar field potential namely, $V(ϕ)$. However, we are not considering any {\it a priori} specific form this term. By means of the Chevallier-Polarski-Linder parametrization for the parameter state of the fluid we can construct an explicit function for such potential in terms of the cosmological redshift and obtain analytical solutions in the mimetic gravity approach. We revise some cosmological implications of these results and additionally we perform a numerical reconstruction for the potential $V$ as a function of the mimeti…
We illustrate a general reconstruction procedure for mimetic gravity. Focusing on a bouncing cosmological background, we derive general properties that must be satisfied by the function $f(\Boxϕ)$ implementing the limiting curvature hypothesis. We show how relevant physical information can be extracted from power law expansions of $f$ in different regimes, corresponding e.g. to the very early universe or to late times. Our results are then applied to two specific models reproducing the cosmological background dynamics obtained in group field theory and in loop quantum cosmology, and we discuss…
In this work, we extend the bottom-up reconstruction framework of $F(R)$ gravity to other modified gravities, and in particular for $f(ϕ)R$ and mimetic $F(R)$ gravities. We investigate which are the important conditions in order for the method to work, and we study several viable cosmological evolutions, focusing on the inflationary era. Particularly, for the $f(ϕ)R$ theory case, we specify the functional form of the Hubble rate and of the scalar-to-tensor ratio as a function of the $e$-foldings number and accordingly, the rest of the physical quantities and also the slow-roll and the correspo…
In this paper, we investigate the late-time cosmic acceleration in mimetic $f(R,T)$ gravity with Lagrange multiplier and potential in a Universe containing, besides radiation and dark energy, a self-interacting (collisional) matter. We obtain through the modified Friedmann equations, the main equation that can describe the cosmological evolution and with several models from $Q(z)$ and the well known particular model $f(R, T)$, we perform an analysis of the late-time evolution. We examine the behavior of the Hubble parameter, the dark energy equation of state and the total effective equation of…
In this work, we analyse static spherically symmetric solutions in the framework of mimetic gravity, an extension of general relativity where the conformal degree of freedom of gravity is isolated in a covariant fashion. Here we extend previous works by considering in addition a potential for the mimetic field. An appropriate choice of such potential allows for the reconstruction of a number of interesting cosmological and astrophysical scenarios. We explicitly show how to reconstruct such a potential for a general static spherically symmetric space-time. A number of applications and scenarios…
We present a detailed investigation of the dynamical behavior of mimetic gravity with a general potential for the mimetic scalar field. Performing a phase-space and stability analysis, we show that the scenario at hand can successfully describe the thermal history of the universe, namely the successive sequence of radiation, matter, and dark-energy eras. Additionally, at late times the universe can either approach a de Sitter solution, or a scaling accelerated attractor where the dark-matter and dark-energy density parameters are of the same order, thus offering an alleviation of the cosmic co…
Mimetic gravity is a Weyl-symmetric extension of General Relativity, related to the latter by a singular disformal transformation, wherein the appearance of a dust-like perfect fluid can mimic cold dark matter at a cosmological level. Within this framework, it is possible to provide an unified geometrical explanation for dark matter, the late-time acceleration, and inflation, making it a very attractive theory. In this review, we summarize the main aspects of mimetic gravity, as well as extensions of the minimal formulation of the model. We devote particular focus to the reconstruction techniq…
Using Mukhanov-Chamseddine mimetic approach, we study $F(R)$ gravity with scalar potential and Lagrange multiplier constraint. As we demonstrate, for a given $F(R)$ gravity and for suitably chosen mimetic potential, it is possible to realize inflationary cosmology consistent with Planck observations. We also investigate the de Sitter solutions of the mimetic $F(R)$ theory and study the stability of the solutions, when these exist, towards linear perturbations, with the unstable solutions, which can provide a mechanism for graceful exit from inflation. Finally, we describe a reconstruction meth…
In this paper we propose and extensively study mimetic $f({\cal G})$ modified gravity models, with various scenarios of cosmological evolution, with or without extra matter fluids. The easiest formulation is based on the use of Lagrange multiplier constraint. In certain versions of this theory, it is possible to realize accelerated expansion of the Universe or even unified evolution which includes inflation with dark energy, and at the same time in the same theoretical framework, dark matter is described by the theory. This is achieved by the re-parametrization of the metric tensor, which intr…
We study mimetic $F(R)$ gravity with potential and Lagrange multiplier constraint. In the context of these theories, we introduce a reconstruction technique which enables us to realize arbitrary cosmologies, given the Hubble rate and an arbitrarily chosen $F(R)$ gravity. We exemplify our method by realizing cosmologies that are in concordance with current observations (Planck data) and also well known bouncing cosmologies. The attribute of our method is that the $F(R)$ gravity can be arbitrarily chosen, so we can have the appealing features of the mimetic approach combined with the known featu…
We propose the mimetic $F(R)$ theory and investigate the early-time and late-time acceleration in such theory. It is demonstrated that inflation consistent with observable data may be realized in such theory. The reconstruction of realistic $Λ$CDM era is also possible as well as the unification of early-time inflation with late-time acceleration or bounce universe. It is stressed that specific universe evolution is governed by mimetic $F(R)$ theory which is different from convenient $F(R)$ gravity. The corresponding examples are presented. Mimetic $F(R)$ gravity is generalized by the addition …
We combine the unimodular gravity and mimetic gravity theories into a unified theoretical framework, which is proposed to provide a suggestive proposal for a framework that may assist in the discussion and solution search of the cosmological constant problem and of the dark matter issue. After providing the formulation of the unimodular mimetic gravity and investigating all the new features that the vacuum unimodular gravity implies, by using the underlying reconstruction method, we realize some well known cosmological evolutions, with some of these being exotic for the ordinary Einstein-Hilbe…
We extend the idea of mimetic gravity to a Randall-Sundrum II braneworld model. As for the 4-dimensional mimetic gravity, we isolate the conformal degree of freedom of 5-dimensional gravity in a covariant manner. We assume the bulk metric to be made up of a non-dynamical scalar field $Φ$ and an auxiliary metric $\tilde{\cal{G}}_{AB}$ so that ${\cal{G}}_{AB}= \tilde{\cal{G}}^{CD}\,Φ_{,C}\,Φ_{,D}\,\tilde{\cal{G}}_{AB}$ where $A, B, ...$ are the bulk spacetime indices. Then we show that the induced conformal degree of freedom on the brane as an induced scalar field, plays the role of a mimetic fi…
We study the first cosmological implications of the mimetic theory of massive gravity recently proposed by Chamseddine and Mukhanov. This is a novel theory of ghost-free massive gravity which additionally contains a mimetic dark matter component. In an echo of other modified gravity theories, there are self-accelerating solutions which contain a ghost instability. In the ghost-free region of parameter space, the effect of the graviton mass on the cosmic expansion history amounts to an effective negative cosmological constant, a radiation component, and a negative curvature term. This allows us…
Mimetic gravity analysis has been studied as a theory in various types of general relativity extensions, such as mimetic f(R) gravity, mimetic f(R, T) gravity, mimetic f(R, G) gravity, etc., in the literature. This paper presents a set of equations arising from mimetic conditions and studies cosmic inflation with a combination of mimetic f(G) gravity and swampland dS conjectures. We analyze and evaluate these results. Therefore, we first thoroughly introduce the mimetic f(G) gravity and calculate some cosmological parameters such as the scalar spectral index, the tensor-to-scalar ratio, and th…
We investigate the possibility of dark matter being a pure geometrical effect, rather than a particle or a compact object, by exploring a specific modified gravity model: mimetic dark matter. We present an alternative formulation of the theory, closer to the standard cosmological perturbation theory framework. We make manifest the presence of arbitrary parameters and extra functions, both at background level and at first order in perturbation theory. We present the full set of independent equations of motion for this model, and we discuss the amount of tuning needed to match predictions of the…
In this paper, we propose a simple parametrization of the Hubble parameter H in order to explain the late time cosmic acceleration. We show that our proposal covers many models obtained in different schemes of parametrization under one umbrella. We demonstrate that a simple modification in the functional form of Hubble parameter can give rise to interesting cosmological phenomena such as big rip singularity, bounce and others. We have also constrained the model parameters using the latest 28 points of H(z) data for three cases which admit transition from deceleration to acceleration.
A variant of the accelerating cosmology reconstruction program is developed for $f(R)$ gravity. Reconstruction schemes in terms of e-foldings and by using an auxiliary scalar field are developed. An example of a model with a transient phantom behavior without real matter is explicitly discussed in both schemes. Detailed comparison of the two schemes of reconstruction is presented. It seems to support physical non-equivalence of the two frames.
Based on General Relativity (GR) we consider two different cosmological scenarios in where reconstruct the energy exchange (Q) between cold dark matter (DM) fluid and dark energy (DE) fluid, which is modelled with a DE varying equation of state (EoS) parameter ω. We here investigate the main cosmological effects on the growth rate of matter density perturbations (fσ8), on the effective Hubble friction term (Heff ), on the effective Newton constant (Geff ) and on the growth index of the linear matter fluctuations (γ). Our study demonstrates that in the coupled models the evolution of these quan…
The equation of state (EoS) of dark energy plays an important role in the evolution of the universe and arouses great interests in recent years. With the progress on observational technique, precise constraint on the EoS of dark energy becomes possible. In this paper, we reconstruct the EoS of dark energy and cosmic expansion using Gaussian processes (GP) from the most up-to-date Pantheon compilation of type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia), which consists of 1048 finely calibrated SNe Ia. The reconstructed EoS of dark energy has large uncertainty due to its dependence on the second order derivative of …
The primordial curvature fluctuation spectrum is reconstructed by the cosmic inversion method using the five-year WMAP data of the cosmic microwave background temperature anisotropy. We apply the covariance matrix analysis and decompose the reconstructed spectrum into statistically independent band-powers. The statistically significant deviation from a simple power-law spectrum suggested by the analysis of the first-year data is not found in the five-year data except possibly at one point near the border of the wavenumber domain where accurate reconstruction is possible.
In this paper, we consider a simple form of expansion history of Universe referred to as the hybrid expansion law - a product of power-law and exponential type of functions. The ansatz by construction mimics the power-law and de Sitter cosmologies as special cases but also provides an elegant description of the transition from deceleration to cosmic acceleration. We point out the Brans-Dicke realization of the cosmic history under consideration. We construct potentials for quintessence, phantom and tachyon fields, which can give rise to the hybrid expansion law in general relativity. We invest…
The possibility of a non-gravitational interaction between the dark matter and the dark energy has been reconstructed using some recent datasets. The crucial aspect is that the interaction is not parametrized at the outset, but rather reconstructed directly from the data in a non-parametric way. The Cosmic Chronometer Hubble data, the Pantheon Supernova compilation of CANDELS and CLASH Multy-Cycle Treasury programs obtained by the HST, and the Baryon Acoustic Oscillation Hubble data have been considered in this work. The widely accepted Gaussian Process is used for the reconstruction. The resu…
The present thesis is devoted to the non-parametric reconstruction of some cosmological parameters using diverse observational datasets. The Universe is assumed to be spatially homogeneous and isotropic, thus described by the FLRW metric. The first chapter provides a brief introduction to cosmology and focuses on the reconstruction methods. An assessment of the cosmic distance-duality relation is discussed in chapter 2. In chapter 3, a non-parametric reconstruction of the cosmological jerk parameter is carried out. Chapter 4 explores the possibility of a non-gravitational interaction in the co…
The kinetic Sunyaev Zel'dovich (kSZ) and moving lens effects, secondary contributions to the cosmic microwave background (CMB), carry significant cosmological information due to their dependence on the large-scale peculiar velocity field. Previous work identified a promising means of extracting this cosmological information using a set of quadratic estimators for the radial and transverse components of the velocity field. These estimators are based on the statistically anisotropic components of the cross-correlation between the CMB and a tracer of large scale structure, such as a galaxy redshi…
We develop a deep learning technique to infer the non-linear velocity field from the dark matter density field. The deep learning architecture we use is an "U-net" style convolutional neural network, which consists of 15 convolution layers and 2 deconvolution layers. This setup maps the 3-dimensional density field of $32^3$-voxels to the 3-dimensional velocity or momentum fields of $20^3$-voxels. Through the analysis of the dark matter simulation with a resolution of $2 {h^{-1}}{\rm Mpc}$, we find that the network can predict the the non-linearity, complexity and vorticity of the velocity and …
We use a combination of observational data in order to reconstruct the free function of f(T) gravity in a model-independent manner. Starting from the data-driven determined dark-energy equation-of-state parameter we are able to reconstruct the f(T) form. The obtained function is consistent with the standard ΛCDM cosmology within 1σ confidence level, however the best-fit value experiences oscillatory features. We parametrise it with a sinusoidal function with only one extra parameter comparing to ΛCDM paradigm, which is a small oscillatory deviation from it, close to the best-fit curve, and ins…

We present a new approach of the reconstruction method based on the use of the cosmic parameters instead of a time law for the scale factor. This allows the derivation and analysis of a set of new non-trivial cosmological solutions for $f(R)$-gravity. A number of simple examples are given.
A variant of the accelerating cosmology reconstruction program is developed for $f(R)$ gravity and for a modified Yang-Mills/Maxwell theory. Reconstruction schemes in terms of e-foldings and by using an auxiliary scalar field are developed and carefully compared, for the case of $f(R)$ gravity. An example of a model with a transient phantom behavior without real matter is explicitly discussed in both schemes. Further, the two reconstruction schemes are applied to the more physically interesting case of a Yang-Mills/Maxwell theory, again with explicit examples. Detailed comparison of the two sc…
In light of the statistical performance of cosmological observations, in this work we present an improvement on the Gaussian reconstruction of the Hubble parameter data $H(z)$ from Cosmic Chronometers, Supernovae Type Ia and Clustering Galaxies in a model-independent way in order to use them to study new constraints in the Horndeski theory of gravity. First, we have found that the prior used to calibrate the Pantheon supernovae data significantly affects the reconstructions, leading to a 13$σ$ tension on the $H_0$ value. Second, according to the $χ^{2}$-statistics, the reconstruction carried o…
Using the reconstruction technique with an auxiliary field, we investigate which $F(R)$ gravities can produce the matter bounce cosmological solutions. Owing to the specific functional form of the matter bounce Hubble parameter, the reconstruction technique leads, after some simplifications, to the same Hubble parameter as in the matter bounce scenario. Focusing the study to the large and small cosmic time $t$ limits, we were able to find which $F(R)$ gravities can generate the matter bounce Hubble parameter. In the case of small cosmic time limit, which corresponds to large curvature values, …
Given observations of B-mode polarization power spectrum of the cosmic microwave background (CMB), we can reconstruct power spectra of primordial tensor modes from the early Universe without assuming their functional form such as a power-law spectrum. Shape of the reconstructed spectra can then be used to probe the origin of tensor modes in a model-independent manner. We use the Fisher matrix to calculate the covariance matrix of tensor power spectra reconstructed in bins. We find that the power spectra are best reconstructed at wavenumbers in the vicinity of $k\approx 6\times 10^{-4}$ and $5\…
