Using Kostant's weight multiplicity formula, we describe and enumerate the terms contributing a nonzero value to the multiplicity of a positive root $μ$ in the adjoint representation of $\mathfrak{sl}_{r+1}(\mathbb{C})$, which we denote $L(\tildeα)$, where $\tildeα$ is the highest root of $\mathfrak{sl}_{r+1}(\mathbb{C})$. We prove that the number of terms contributing a nonzero value in the multiplicity of the positive root $μ=α_i+α_{i+1}+\cdots+α_j$ with $1\leq i\leq j\leq r$ in $L(\tildeα)$ is given by the product $F_{i}\cdot F_{r-j+1}$, where $F_n$ is the $n^{\text{th}}$ Fibonacci number. Using this result, we show that the $q$-multiplicity of the positive root $μ=α_i+α_{i+1}+\cdots+α_j$ with $1\leq i\leq j\leq r$ in the representation $L(\tildeα)$ is precisely $q^{r-h(μ)}$, where $h(μ)=j-i+1$ is the height of the positive root $μ$. Setting $q=1$ recovers the known result that the multiplicity of a positive root in the adjoint representation of $\mathfrak{sl}_{r+1}(\mathbb{C})$ is one.
Consider the weight $λ$ which is the sum of all simple roots of a simple Lie algebra. Using Kostant's weight multiplicity formula we describe and enumerate the contributing terms to the multiplicity of the zero weight in the representation with highest weight $λ$. We prove that in Lie algebras of type $A$ and $B$, the number of contributing terms to the multiplicity of the zero-weight space in the representation with highest weight $λ$ is given by a Fibonacci number, and that in Lie algebras of type $C$ and $D$, the analogous result is given by a multiple of a Lucas number.
Kostant's weight $q$-multiplicity formula is an alternating sum over a finite group known as the Weyl group, whose terms involve the $q$-analog of Kostant's partition function. The $q$-analog of the partition function is a polynomial-valued function defined by $\wp_q(ξ)=\sum_{i=0}^k c_i q^i$, where $c_i$ is the number of ways the weight $ξ$ can be written as a sum of exactly $i$ positive roots of a Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$. The evaluation of the $q$-multiplicity formula at $q = 1$ recovers the multiplicity of a weight in an irreducible highest weight representation of $\mathfrak{g}$. In this…
The $q$-analog of Kostant's weight multiplicity formula is an alternating sum over a finite group, known as the Weyl group, whose terms involve the $q$-analog of Kostant's partition function. This formula, when evaluated at $q=1$, gives the multiplicity of a weight in a highest weight representation of a simple Lie algebra. In this paper, we consider the Lie algebra $\mathfrak{sl}_4(\mathbb{C})$ and give closed formulas for the $q$-analog of Kostant's weight multiplicity. This formula depends on the following two sets of results. First, we present closed formulas for the $q$-analog of Kostant'…
We study multiplicity space signatures in tensor products of representations of $\mathfrak{sl}_2$ and $U_q(\mathfrak{sl}_2)$, and give some applications. We completely classify definite multiplicity spaces for generic tensor products of $\mathfrak{sl}_2$ Verma modules. This provides a classification of a family of unitary representations of a basic quantized quiver variety, one of the first such classifications for any quantized quiver variety. We use multiplicity space signatures to provide the first real critical point lower bound for generic $\mathfrak{sl}_2$ master functions. As a corollar…
Given a simple Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$, Kostant's weight $q$-multiplicity formula is an alternating sum over the Weyl group whose terms involve the $q$-analog of Kostant's partition function. For $ξ$ (a weight of $\mathfrak{g}$), the $q$-analog of Kostant's partition function is a polynomial-valued function defined by $\wp_q(ξ)=\sum c_i q^i$ where $c_i$ is the number of ways $ξ$ can be written as a sum of $i$ positive roots of $\mathfrak{g}$. In this way, the evaluation of Kostant's weight $q$-multiplicity formula at $q = 1$ recovers the multiplicity of a weight in a highest weight represen…
Let $F$ be a totally real field, $\mathfrak{p}$ an unramified place of $F$ dividing $p$ and $\overline{r}: \mathrm{Gal}(\overline{F}/F)\rightarrow\mathrm{GL}_2(\overline{\mathbb{F}}_p)$ a continuous irreducible modular representation. The work of Buzzard, Diamond and Jarvis associates to $\overline{r}$ an admissible smooth representation of $\mathrm{GL}_2(F_\mathfrak{p})$ on the mod $p$ cohomology of Shimura curves attached to indefinite division algebras which split at $\mathfrak{p}$. When $\overline{r}|_{\mathrm{Gal}(\overline{F_\mathfrak{p}}/F_\mathfrak{p})}$ is tamely ramified and generic …
Let $F$ be a non-Archimedean local field. Let $G$ be an algebraic group over $F$. A $G$-variety $X$ defined over $F$ is said to be multiplicity-free if for any admissible irreducible representation $π$ of $G(F)$ the following takes place: $\dim Hom_{G(F)}(\mathcal{S}(X(F)), π) \le 1$ where $\mathcal{S}(X(F))$ is the space of Schwartz functions on $X(F)$. In this thesis we prove that $\mathbb{P}\mathfrak{gl}_{2}(F)$ is multiplicity-free as a $PGL_{2}(F)\times PGL_{2}(F)$-variety.
Let $\mathbb{H}_n$ be the $(2n+1)$-dimensional Heisenberg group and $K$ a closed subgroup of $U(n)$ acting on $\mathbb{H}_n$ by automorphisms such that $(K,\mathbb{H}_n)$ is a Gelfand pair. Let $G=K\ltimes\mathbb{H}_n$ be the semidirect product of $K$ and $\mathbb{H}_n$. Let $\mathfrak{g}\supset\mathfrak{k}$ be the respective Lie algebras of $G$ and $K$, and $\operatorname{pr}: \mathfrak{g}^{*}\longrightarrow\mathfrak{k}^{*}$ the natural projection. For coadjoint orbits $\mathcal{O}^{G}\subset\mathfrak{g}^{*}$ and $\mathcal{O}^{K}\subset\mathfrak{k}^{*}$, we denote by $n\big(\mathcal{O}^{G},\m…
Let $G=K\ltimes\mathbb{R}^n$, where $K$ is a compact connected subgroup of $O(n)$ acting on $\mathbb{R}^n$ by rotations. Let $\mathfrak{g}\supset\mathfrak{k}$ be the respective Lie algebras of $G$ and $K$, and $pr: \mathfrak{g}^{*}\longrightarrow\mathfrak{k}^{*}$ the natural projection. For admissible coadjoint orbits $\mathcal{O}^{G}\subset\mathfrak{g}^{*}$ and $\mathcal{O}^{K}\subset\mathfrak{k}^{*}$, we denote by $n(\mathcal{O}^{G},\mathcal{O}^{K})$ the number of $K$-orbits in $\mathcal{O}^{G}\cap pr^{-1}(\mathcal{O}^{K})$, which is called the Corwin-Greenleaf multiplicity function. Let $π\…
Let $\mathfrak{o}$ be the ring of integers of a non-archimedean local field with the maximal ideal $\wp$ and the finite residue field of characteristic $p.$ Let $\mathbf{G}$ be the General Linear or Special Linear group with entries from the finite quotients $\mathfrak{o}/\wp^\ell$ of $\mathfrak{o}$ and $\mathbf{U}$ be the subgroup of $\mathbf{G}$ consisting of upper triangular unipotent matrices. We prove that the induced representation $\mathrm{Ind}^{\mathbf{G}}_{\mathbf{U}}(θ)$ of $\mathbf{G}$ obtained from a ${\it non-degenerate}$ character $θ$ of $\mathbf{U}$ is multiplicity free for all …
For a finite dimensional unital complex simple Jordan superalgebra $J$, the Tits-Kantor-Koecher construction yields a 3-graded Lie superalgebra $\mathfrak g_\flat\cong \mathfrak g_\flat(-1)\oplus\mathfrak g_\flat(0)\oplus\mathfrak g_\flat(1)$, such that $\mathfrak g_\flat(-1)\cong J$. Set $V:=\mathfrak g_\flat(-1)^*$ and $\mathfrak g:=\mathfrak g_\flat(0)$. In most cases, the space $\mathcal P(V)$ of superpolynomials on $V$ is a completely reducible and multiplicity-free representation of $\mathfrak g$, with a decomposition $\mathcal P(V):=\bigoplus_{λ\inΩ}V_λ$, where $\left(V_λ\right)_{λ\inΩ}…
We remove the semisimple condition in the mod-$p$ local-global compatibility result of arXiv:2106.10674. Namely, assuming flatness of $π_{\mathfrak{m}}^\vee$ and $\overlineσ_{\mathfrak{m}}|_{\mathrm{Gal}_{F^+_{\mathfrak{p}}}}$ being multiplicity free, we prove that $H^{n-1}_{\text{ét}}(\mathbb{P}_{\mathbb{C}_p}^{n-1}, \mathcal{F}_{π_{\mathfrak{m}}[\mathfrak{m}]})$ determines $\overlineσ_{\mathfrak{m}}|_{\mathrm{Gal}_{F^+_{\mathfrak{p}}}}$ uniquely. We give remarks on our assumptions at the end of this note.
We consider the quantum symmetric pair $(\mathcal{U}_q(\mathfrak{su}(3)), \mathcal{B})$ where $\mathcal{B}$ is a right coideal subalgebra. We prove that all finite-dimensional irreducible representations of $\mathcal{B}$ are weight representations and are characterised by their highest weight and dimension. We show that the restriction of a finite-dimensional irreducible representation of $\mathcal{U}_q(\mathfrak{su}(3))$ to $\mathcal{B}$ decomposes multiplicity free into irreducible representations of $\mathcal{B}$. Furthermore we give explicit expressions for the highest weight vectors in th…
In this paper, we study the representations of the periplectic Lie superalgebra using the Duflo-Serganova functor. Given a simple $\mathfrak{p}(n)$-module $L$ and a certain element $x\in \mathfrak{p}(n)$ of rank $1$, we give an explicit description of the composition factors of the $\mathfrak{p}(n-1)$-module $DS_x(L)$, which is defined as the homology of the complex $$ΠM \xrightarrow{x} M \xrightarrow{x} ΠM.$$ In particular, we show that this $\mathfrak{p}(n-1)$-module is multiplicity-free. We then use this result to give a simple explicit combinatorial formula for the superdimension of a simp…
Let $\mathfrak g$ be a simple Lie algebra over $\mathbb C$ and let $e \in \mathfrak g$ be nilpotent. We consider the finite $W$-algebra $U(\mathfrak g,e)$ associated to $e$ and the problem of determining the variety $\mathcal E(\mathfrak g,e)$ of 1-dimensional representations of $U(\mathfrak g,e)$. For $\mathfrak g$ of low rank, we report on computer calculations that have been used to determine the structure of $\mathcal E(\mathfrak g,e)$, and the action of the component group $Γ_e$ of the centralizer of $e$ on $\mathcal E(\mathfrak g,e)$. As a consequence, we provide two examples where the n…
The multiplicity of a weight $μ$ in an irreducible representation of a simple Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ with highest weight $λ$ can be computed via the use of Kostant's weight multiplicity formula. This formula is an alternating sum over the Weyl group and involves the computation of a partition function. In this paper we consider a $q$-analog of Kostant's weight multiplicity and present a SageMath program to compute $q$-multiplicities for the simple Lie algebras.
Let $G$ be a linear connected non-compact real simple Lie group and let $K\subset G$ be a maximal compact subgroup of $G$. Suppose that the centre of $K$ isomorphic to $\mathbb{S}^1$ so that $G/K$ is a global Hermitian symmetric space. Let $θ$ be the Cartan involution of $G$ that fixes $K$. Let $Λ$ be a uniform lattice in $G$ such that $θ(Λ)=Λ.$ Suppose that $G$ is one of the groups $SU(p,q), p<q-1, q\ge 5, SO_0(2,q)$, $Sp(n,\mathbb{R}), n\ne 4, SO^*(2n), n\ge 9.$ Then there exists a unique irreducible unitary representation $\mathcal{A}_\mathfrak{q}$ associated to a proper $θ$-stable paraboli…
We study the category $\mathcal{F}_n$ of finite-dimensional integrable representations of the periplectic Lie superalgebra $\mathfrak{p}(n)$. We define an action of the Temperley--Lieb algebra with infinitely many generators and defining parameter $0$ on the category $\mathcal{F}_n$ by translation functors. We also introduce combinatorial tools, called weight diagrams and arrow diagrams for $\mathfrak{p}(n)$ resembling those for $\mathfrak{gl}(m|n)$. Using the Temperley--Lieb algebra action and the combinatorics of weight and arrow diagrams, we then calculate the multiplicities of standard and…
Let $\ell\in\mathbb{N}$ with $\ell>2$ and $I:=\mathbb{Z}/2\ell\mathbb{Z}$. In this paper we give a new realization of the crystal of affine $\widehat{\mathfrak{sl}}_{\ell}$ using the modular representation theory of the affine Hecke algebras $H_n$ of type $A$ and their level two cyclotomic quotients with Hecke parameter being a primitive $2\ell$th root of unity. We realized the Kashiwara operators for the crystal as the functors of taking socle of certain two-steps restriction and of taking head of certain two-steps induction. For any finite dimensional irreducible $H_n$-module $M$, we prove t…
We prove effectiveness of certain representations of Hecke-Kiselman monoids of type A constructed by Ganyushkin and Mazorchuk and also construct further classes of effective representations for these monoids. As a consequence the effective dimension of monoids of type A is determined. We also show that odd Fibonacci numbers appear as the cardinality of certain bipartite HK-monoids and count the number of multiplicity free elements in any HK-monoid of type A.
Let $(G,G_1)$ be a symmetric pair of holomorphic type, and we consider a pair of Hermitian symmetric spaces $D_1=G_1/K_1\subset D=G/K$, realized as bounded symmetric domains in complex vector spaces $\mathfrak{p}^+_1\subset\mathfrak{p}^+$ respectively. Then the universal covering group $\widetilde{G}$ of $G$ acts unitarily on the weighted Bergman space $\mathcal{H}_λ(D)\subset\mathcal{O}(D)$ on $D$. Its restriction to the subgroup $\widetilde{G}_1$ decomposes discretely and multiplicity-freely, and its branching law is given explicitly by Hua-Kostant-Schmid-Kobayashi's formula in terms of the …
Let $\mathfrak{g}_m=\mathfrak{sl}(2)\ltimes V(m)$, $m\ge 1$, where $V(m)$ is the irreducible $\mathfrak{sl}(2)$-module of dimension $m+1$ viewed as an abelian Lie algebra. It is known that the isomorphism classes of uniserial $\mathfrak{g}_m$-modules consist of a family, say of type $Z$, containing modules of arbitrary composition length, and some exceptional modules with composition length $\le 4$. Let $V$ and $W$ be two uniserial $\mathfrak{g}_m$-modules of type $Z$. In this paper we obtain the $\mathfrak{sl}(2)$-module decomposition of $\text{soc}(V\otimes W)$ by giving explicitly the highe…
The classical Pieri formula gives a multiplicity free expansion of an irreducible module with a fundamental one for the complex general linear group. In this article we replace the tensor product by the fusion product and prove an analogue Pieri formula for higher level Demazure modules for the affine Lie algebra $\widehat{\mathfrak{sl}}_{n+1}$. To be more precise, we show that the fusion product of an arbitrary stable Demazure module with a fundamental module admits a multiplicity free excellent filtration and the successive quotients are described explicitly. As a consequence, we derive recu…
Let $n\geq 0$ denote an integer. Let $\mathscr M_n$ denote the space of Dunkl monogenics of degree $n$ associated with the reflection group $\mathbb Z_2^3$. The universal Bannai--Ito algebra $\mathfrak{BI}$ is a unital associative algebra over $\mathbb C$ generated by $X,Y,Z$ and the relations assert that each of \begin{gather*} \{X,Y\}-Z, \qquad \{Y,Z\}-X, \qquad \{Z,X\}-Y \end{gather*} commutes with $X,Y,Z$. When the multiplicity function $k$ is real-valued the space $\mathscr M_n$ supports a $\mathfrak{BI}$-module in terms of the symmetries of the spherical Dirac--Dunkl operator. Under the …
设$F$是非阿基米德局部域,整数环$\mathfrak{o}_F. Let $ G=GL_N(F)$, $ K=GL_N(\mathfrak{o}_F)$ and $ π $ a supercuspidal representation of $ G $. We show that there exist a unique irreducible smooth representation $ τ $ of $ K $, such that the restriction to $ K $ of a smooth irreducible representation $ π' $ of $ G $ contains $ τ $ if and only if $ pi' $ is isomorphic to $ π \otimes × \circ \det $, where $ × $ is an unramified quasicharacter of $ F^{ \times } $. Let $X$ denote the non-compact globally Hermitian symmetric space of type $DIII$, namely, $\text{SO}(n,\mathbb{H})/\text{U}(n)$. Let $Λ$ be a uniform torsionless lattice in $\text{SO}(n,\mathbb{H})$. In this note we construct certain complex analytic submanifolds in the locally symmetric space $X_Γ:=Γ\backslash \text{SO}(n,\mathbb{H})/\text{U}(n)$ for certain finite index sub lattices $Γ\subset Λ$ and show that their dual cohomology classes in $H^*(X_Γ;\mathbb{C})$ are not in the image of the Matsushima homomorphism $H^*(X_u; \mathbb{C})\to H^*(X_Γ;\mathbb{C})$, where $X_u=\text{SO}(2n)/\text{…
