Lattice QCD calculations of leptonic decay constants have now reached sub-percent precision so that isospin-breaking corrections, including QED effects, must be included to fully exploit this precision in determining fundamental quantities, in particular the elements of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) matrix, from experimental measurements. A number of collaborations have performed, or are performing, such computations. In this paper we develop a new theoretical framework, based on Infinite-Volume Reconstruction (IVR), for the computation of electromagnetic corrections to leptonic decay widths. In this method, the hadronic correlation functions are first processed theoretically in infinite volume, in such a way that the required matrix elements can be determined non-perturbatively from lattice QCD computations with finite-volume uncertainties which are exponentially small in the volume. The cancellation of infrared divergences in this framework is performed fully analytically. We also outline how this IVR treatment can be extended to determine the QED effects in semi-leptonic kaon decays with a similar degree of accuracy.
Adding a hard photon to the final state of a leptonic pseudoscalar-meson decay lifts the helicity suppression and can provide sensitivity to a larger set of operators in the weak effective Hamiltonian. Furthermore, radiative leptonic $B$ decays at high photon energy are well suited to constrain the first inverse moment of the $B$-meson light-cone distribution amplitude, an important parameter in the theory of nonleptonic $B$ decays. We demonstrate that the calculation of radiative leptonic decays is possible using Euclidean lattice QCD, and present preliminary numerical results for $D_s^+ \to …
We show results from calculations in full lattice QCD of the mass, leptonic width and radiative decay rate to eta_c of the J/psi meson. These provide few % tests of QCD. Another (1.5%) test comes from comparison of time-moments of the vector charmonium correlator with results derived from the experimental values of R(e+e- to hadrons) in the charm region.
I discuss recent developments on non-leptonic and radiative kaon decays mainly related to direct CP-violation within the combined ChPT and 1/N_c expansion approaches. In particular, I review the status of K -> pi pi, epsilon_K', direct CP-violating K+ -> 3 pi Dalitz plot slope g and decay rate asymmetries, and the Standard Model prediction for Br(K_L -> pi0 e+ e-).
Two important sources of systematic errors in lattice QCD calculations of radiative leptonic decays are unwanted exponentials in the sum over intermediate states and unwanted excited states created by the meson interpolating field. Performing the calculation using a 3d sequential propagator allows for better control over the systematic uncertainties from intermediate states, while using a 4d sequential propagator allows for better control over the systematic uncertainties from excited states. We calculate form factors using both methods and compare how reliably each controls these systematic e…
We study transition form factors for radiative and rare semi-leptonic B-meson decays into light pseudoscalar or vector mesons, combining theoretical constraints and phenomenological information from Lattice QCD, light-cone sum rules, and dispersive bounds. We pay particular attention to form factor parameterisations which are based on the so-called series expansion, and study the related systematic uncertainties on a quantitative level. In this context, we also provide the NLO corrections to the correlation function between two flavour-changing tensor currents, which enters the unitarity const…
We present a non-perturbative lattice calculation of the form factors which contribute to the amplitudes for the radiative decays $P\to \ell \bar ν_\ell γ$, where $P$ is a pseudoscalar meson and $\ell$ is a charged lepton. Together with the non-perturbative determination of the corrections to the processes $P\to \ell \bar ν_\ell$ due to the exchange of a virtual photon, this allows accurate predictions at $O(α_{em})$ to be made for leptonic decay rates for pseudoscalar mesons ranging from the pion to the $D_s$ meson. We are able to separate unambiguously and non-pertubatively the point-like co…
We calculate the J/ψ mass, leptonic width and radiative decay rate to γη_c from lattice QCD including u, d and s quarks in the sea for the first time. We use the Highly Improved Staggered Quark formalism and nonperturbatively normalised vector currents for the leptonic and radiative decay rates. Our results are: M_{J/ψ} -M_{η_c} = 116.5(3.2) MeV; Γ(J/ψ to e^+e^-) = 5.48(16) keV; Γ(J/ψ to γη_c) = 2.49(19) keV. The first two are in good agreement with experiment, with Γ(J/ψ to e^+e^-) providing a test of a decay matrix element in QCD, independent of CKM uncertainties, to 2%. At the same time res…

Applying the method of light-cone sum rules with photon distribution amplitudes, we compute the subleading-power correction to the radiative leptonic $B \to γ\ell ν$ decay, at next-to-leading order in QCD for the twist-two contribution and at leading order in $α_s$ for the higher-twist contributions, induced by the hadronic component of the collinear photon. The leading-twist hadronic photon effect turns out to preserve the symmetry relation between the two $B \to γ$ form factors due to the helicity conservation, however, the higher-twist hadronic photon corrections can yield symmetry-breaking…
In Ref. [1], a method was proposed to calculate QED corrections to hadronic self energies from lattice QCD without power-law finite-volume errors. In this paper, we extend the method to processes which occur at second-order in the weak interaction and in which there is a massless (or almost massless) leptonic propagator. We demonstrate that, in spite of the presence of the propagator of an almost massless electron, such an infinite-volume reconstruction procedure can be used to obtain the amplitude for the rare kaon decay $K^+\toπ^+ν\barν$ from a lattice quantum chromodynamics computation with…
We present a comparison of existing experimental data for the radiative leptonic decays $P\to\ellν_\ellγ$, where $P=K$ or $π$ and $\ell=e$ or $μ$, from the KLOE, PIBETA, E787, ISTRA+ and OKA collaborations with theoretical predictions based on the recent non-perturbative determinations of the structure-dependent vector and axial-vector form factors, $F_V$ and $F_A$ respectively. These were obtained using lattice QCD+QED simulations at order $O(α_{\mathrm{em}})$ in the electromagnetic coupling. We find good agreement with the KLOE data on $K\to eν_eγ$ decays from which the form factor $F^+=F_V+…
The precision of lattice QCD computations of many quantities has reached such a precision that isospin-breaking corrections, including electromagnetism, must be included if further progress is to be made in extracting fundamental information, such as the values of Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix elements, from experimental measurements. We discuss the framework for including radiative corrections in leptonic and semileptonic decays of hadrons, including the treatment of infrared divergences. We briefly review isospin breaking in leptonic decays and present the first numerical results for the …
Using an improved "analytic K-matrix model", we reconsider the extraction of the sigma/f_0(600) and f_0(980) gamma-gamma widths from gamma-gamma to pi-pi scatterings data of Crystal Ball and Belle. Our main results are summarized in Tables 3 and 4. The averaged sigma "direct width" to gamma-gamma is 0.16(3) keV which confirms a previous result of [1] and which does neither favour a large four-quark (diquark-antidiquark) nor a molecule nor a pure \bar qq component. The "direct width" of the f_0(980) of 0.28(2) keV is much larger than the four-quark expectation but can be compatible with a \bar …
We update our previous results by increasing the luminosity, the efficiency, and for the Ds+ the number of tags. We determine f{D+}=(205.8 +/- 8.5 +/- 2.5) MeV, and an interim preliminary value of f{Ds+}=(267.9 +/- 8.2 +/- 3.9) MeV, where both results are radiatively corrected. We agree with the recent most precise unquenched Lattice-QCD calculation for the D+, but are in disagreement for the Ds+. Several consequences are discussed, including the possibility of physics beyond the Standard Model.
We present a non-perturbative calculation of the form factors which contribute to the amplitudes for the radiative decays $P\to \ell \bar ν_\ell γ$, where $P$ is a pseudoscalar meson and $\ell$ is a charged lepton. Together with the non-perturbative determination of the virtual photon corrections to the processes $P\to \ell \bar ν_\ell$, this will allow accurate predictions to be made at $O(α_{em})$ for leptonic decay rates for pseudoscalar mesons ranging from the pion to the $B$ meson. We are able to separate unambiguously the point-like contribution, the square of which leads to the infrared…
Employing the QCD factorization formalism we compute $B_{u}^{-} \to γ^{\ast} \, \ell \, \bar ν_{\ell}$ form factors with an off-shell photon state possessing the virtuality of order $m_b \, Λ_{\rm QCD}$ and $m_b^2$, respectively, at next-to-leading order in QCD. Perturbative resummation for the enhanced logarithms of $m_b / Λ_{\rm QCD}$ in the resulting factorization formulae is subsequently accomplished at next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy with the renormalization-group technique in momentum space. In particular, we derive the soft-collinear factorization formulae for a variety of the subl…
The measurements of $V_{us}$ in leptonic $(K_{μ2})$ and semileptonic $(K_{l3})$ kaon decays exhibit a $3σ$ disagreement, which could originate either from physics beyond the Standard Model or some large unidentified Standard Model systematic effects. Clarifying this issue requires a careful examination of all existing Standard Model inputs. Making use of a newly-proposed computational framework and the most recent lattice QCD results, we perform a comprehensive re-analysis of the electroweak radiative corrections to the $K_{e3}$ decay rates that achieves an unprecedented level of precision of …
