We update our previous results by increasing the luminosity, the efficiency, and for the Ds+ the number of tags. We determine f{D+}=(205.8 +/- 8.5 +/- 2.5) MeV, and an interim preliminary value of f{Ds+}=(267.9 +/- 8.2 +/- 3.9) MeV, where both results are radiatively corrected. We agree with the recent most precise unquenched Lattice-QCD calculation for the D+, but are in disagreement for the Ds+. Several consequences are discussed, including the possibility of physics beyond the Standard Model.
I describe CLEO-c purely leptonic decay results leading to fD+=(222.6 +/- 16.7^{+2.8}_{-3.4}) MeV, fDs+=(280.1 +/- 11.6 +/- 6.0) MeV, and fDs+/fD+=1.26 +/- 0.11 +/-0.03. Form-factor measurements in Cabibbo favored and suppressed pseudoscalar decays are presented. Some comparisons are made with theoretical predictions.
Using e+e- collision data in the sqrt{s} = 4 GeV energy region, CLEO-c has made extensive studies of semileptonic and leptonic decays of the D0, D+, and Ds+ charmed mesons. We report recent measurements of absolute branching fractions, form factors, and decay constants that serve as precision tests of theoretical calculations.
We report on recent measurements of hadronic, semileptonic and leptonic $D$ decays taken using ~57 pb^-1 of data collected on the psi'' resonance using the CLEO-c detector.
We begin with giving some motivation for the study of charm semileptonic and fully leptonic decays. We turn next to a discussion of semileptonic absolution branching fraction results form CLEO-c. Two exciting high statistics results on fully leptonic decays of the D+ -> mu+ nu and Ds+ -> mu+ nu from CLEO-c and BaBar are reviewed. We turn next to a discussion of recent results on charm meson decay to pseudo-scalar l nu decays from FOCUS, BaBar, and CLEO-c. We conclude with a review of charm meson decay into Vector l nu.
Recent CLEO-c results on open charm physics at the psi(3770) are presented. Measurements of hadronic and semileptonic branching fractions of the D0 and D+ mesons are discussed as well as the leptonic decay D+ to mu+ nu_mu and determination of the D meson decay constant.
The CLEO-c experiment, running at charm threshold, has measured many charmed meson properties. Here I summarize results on leptonic and semileptonic decays of D mesons, as well as measurements hadronic decay strong phases that are relevant to the extraction of the CKM angle gamma from B decays.
The CLEO-c research program will include studies of leptonic, semileptonic and hadronic charm decays, searches for exotic and gluonic matter, and test for physics beyond the Standard Model. The experiment and the CESR accelerator were modified to efficiently operate at center-of-mass energies between 3 and 5 GeV. Data at the ψ(3770) resonance were recorded with the CLEO-c detector in September 2003 beginning a new era in the exploration of the charm sector.

We review the recent experimental results on D and Ds meson leptonic decays from CLEO-c, Belle, and BABAR, which results in the decay constants f_D= (206.7 +- 8.9) MeV and f_Ds= (257.3 +- 5.3) MeV. The latter is an average obtained by the Heavy Flavor Averaging Group (HFAG). Comparisons with Lattice QCD (LQCD) calculations are discussed.
In this work, we investigate the radiative leptonic decays D_(s)^- \to γ\ell \barν(\ell = e, μ) at tree level within the non-relativistic consistuent quark model and the effective Lagrangian for the heavy flavor decays. We find that the contributions for the three Feynman diagrams are all important. With the full calculation, the decay branching ratios are of the order of 10^-5 for D_s^- \to γ\ell \barνand 10^-6 for D^- \to γ\ell \barν, respectively. These decays can be measured at B factories and future CLEO-C experiments to determine the decay constants f_D_s and f_D.
We present recent results from the CLEO Collaboration on leptonic decay rates of $D$ and $D_s$ near $c\bar{c}$ production threshold. From these decay rates, we extract the decay constants, f_D = (222.6+-16.7^{+2.8}_{-3.4}) MeV, f_Ds = (274+-10+-5) MeV, and the ratio f_Ds/f_D = 1.23+-0.11+-0.03.
The study of the purely leptonic decays of the ground charged vector mesons is very interesting and significant in determining the CKM matrix elements, obtaining the decay constant of vector mesons, examining the lepton flavor universality, and searching for new physics beyond the standard model. These purely leptonic decays of the ground charged vector mesons are induced by the weak interactions within the standard model, and usually have very small branching ratios, ${\cal B}(ρ^{-}{\to}{\ell}^{-}ν_{\ell})$ ${\sim}$ ${\cal O}(10^{-13})$, ${\cal B}(K^{{\ast}-}{\to}{\ell}^{-}ν_{\ell})$ ${\sim}$…
We investigate purely leptonic decays of leptons $ł^{\prime-}\to l^-\barν_lν_{l^{\prime}}$ to distinguish Dirac or Majorana neutrinos. We derive the differences of the decay width (and associated quantities) between the two neutrino hypotheses by the effect of identical particles. Evidence from experimental data makes the hypothesis of Majorana neutrinos very unlikely and our results strongly favor the hypothesis of Dirac neutrinos (in the standard three-neutrino theory). Moreover, our exploration for decay widths can be extended to the polarization angles of leptons, which will inspire new in…
A review of the experimental status of purely leptonic ${B^0_{[s]}\to\ell^+\ell^-}$ decays is given and the new analysis of ${B^0_{[s]}\toμ^+μ^-}$ observables with the LHCb experiment is presented. The new results are the most precise single experiment measurements of the quantities to date and are consistent with the Standard Model. However, they also match the recent anomalies found in $b\to s\ell\ell$ transitions excellently.
Using 4.68 fb^{-1} of e^+e^- annihilation data collected with the CLEO II detector we have studied tau radiative decays tau --> mu nu nu gamma and tau --> e nu nu gamma. For a 10 MeV minimum photon energy in the tau rest frame, the branching fraction of a tau radiatively decaying to a muon is measured to be (3.61+-0.16+-0.35)*10^{-3}, and to an electron is (1.75+-0.06+-0.17)*10^{-2}. The branching fractions are in agreement with the Standard Model theoretical predictions. All quoted results are preliminary.
Using 4.68 fb^{-1} of e^+e^- annihilation data collected with the CLEO II detector at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring (CESR) we have studied tau radiative decays tau -> mu nu nu gamma and tau -> e nu nu gamma. For a 10 MeV minimum photon energy in the tau rest frame, the branching fraction of radiative tau decay to a muon or electron is measured to be (3.61+-0.16+-0.35)*10^{-3} or (1.75+-0.06+-0.17)*10^{-2}, respectively. The branching fractions are in agreement with the Standard Model theoretical predictions.
I report preliminary CLEO-c results on purely leptonic decays of the Ds using 195/pb of data at 4.170 GeV. We measure fDs = 280.1 +/- 11.6 +/- 6.0 MeV, and fDs/fD+ = 1.26 +/- 0.11 +/- 0.03.
Rare lepton decays of the B(s), D and K mesons are sensitive probes of New Physics. In particular, the search for the decays $B^0_(s) -> μ^+ μ^-$ provides information on the presence of new (pseudo-)scalar particles. LHCb is well suited for these analyses due to its large acceptance and trigger efficiency, as well as its excellent invariant mass resolution and lepton identification capabilities. The status of these analyses with $\sim1$ fb$^{-1}$ of pp collisions collected by LHCb in 2011 at $\sqrt{s}=7$ TeV is reviewed.
We present a review of the searches for very rare decays to muonic final states performed at LHCb using 1.0 fb-1 of pp collisions at 7 TeV centre of mass energy. Flavour changing neutral current processes, such as B->mumu and B->mumumumu are highly suppressed in the Standard Model (SM). Such decays therefore allow contributions from new processes or new heavy particles to significantly modify the expected SM rates. Charged lepton flavour violating processes, such as the neutrino-less tau->mumumu decay, have vanishingly small decay rates in the SM, but can be significantly enhanced in extended …
We present the first evidence of the decay B- --> tau- nu_tau-bar using 414 fb^-1 of data collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e- collider. Events are tagged by fully reconstructing one of the B mesons in hadronic modes. We detect the signal with a significance of 3.5 standard deviations including systematics, and measure the branching fraction to be Br(B- --> tau- nu_tau-bar) = (1.79 +0.56-0.49(stat) +0.46-0.51(syst))*10^-4. This implies that f_B = 0.229 +0.036-0.031(stat) +0.034-0.037(syst) GeV and is the first direct measurement of t…
A comprehensive review of weak decays of charmed hadrons ($D^{0/+}$, $D^+_s$ and $Λ^+_c$) based on analyses of the threshold data from $e^+e^-$ annihilation in the BESIII experiment is presented. Current experimental challenges and successes in understanding decays of the charmed hadrons are discussed. Precise calibrations of QCD and tests of the Standard Model are provided by measurements of purely leptonic and semi-leptonic decays of charmed hadrons, and lepton universality is probed in purely leptonic decays of charmed mesons to three generations of leptons. Quantum correlations in threshol…
I report final CLEO-c results on the purely leptonic decays of the D_s^+ -> l^+ nu, for the cases when l^+ is a mu^+ or tau^+, when it decays into pi^+ anti-nu, using 314/pb of data at 4.170 GeV. I also include preliminary results from the tau^+ -> e^+ nu anti-nu channel using 195/pb. Combining both we measure f_{D_s}= 275 +/- 10 +/- 5 MeV, and f_{D_s^+}/{f_{D^+}=1.24 +/- 0.10 =/- 0.03 .
Branching fractions of B^0s decays into specific CP eigenstates are presented, and these and other results are combined in world averages to evaluate implications on the width difference between mass or CP eigenstates, ΔΓ_s. New results on purely leptonic decays of B hadrons from the Tevatron and B factories are also presented.
We review the physics of purely leptonic decays of $π^\pm$, $K^\pm$, $D^{\pm}$, $D_s^\pm$, and $B^\pm$ pseudoscalar mesons. The measured decay rates are related to the product of the relevant weak-interaction-based CKM matrix element of the constituent quarks and a strong interaction parameter related to the overlap of the quark and antiquark wave-functions in the meson, called the decay constant $f_P$. The leptonic decay constants for $π^\pm$, $K^\pm$, $D^{\pm}$, $D_s^\pm$, and $B^\pm$ mesons can be obtained with controlled theoretical uncertainties and high precision from {\it ab initio} lat…
In this Letter we describe a search for lepton flavor violation (LFV) in the bottomonium system. We search for leptonic decays of Upsilon(nS)(n=1,2, and 3) into muon and tau using the data collected with the CLEO III detector. We identify the tau lepton using its leptonic decay into electron and utilize multidimensional likelihood fitting with PDF shapes measured from independent data samples. We report our estimates of 95% CL upper limits on LFV branching fractions of Upsilon mesons. We interpret our results in terms of the exclusion plot for the energy scale of a hypothetical new interaction…
The purely leptonic decays Ds -> tau nu and Ds -> mu nu are studied in a sample of four million hadronic Z decays collected with the ALEPH detector at the LEP e+e- collider from 1991 to 1995. The branching fractions are extracted from a combination of two analyses, one optimized to select Ds -> tau nu decays with tau -> e nu nubar or mu nu nubar, and the other optimized for Ds-> mu nu decays. The results are used to evaluate the Ds decay constant, within the Standard Model: fDs = [285 +- 19(stat) +- 40 (syst)] MeV

We measure the branching ratio of the purely leptonic decay of the D+ meson with unprecedented precision as B(D+ -> mu+ nu) = (3.82 +/- 0.32 +/- 0.09)x10^(-4), using 818/pb of data taken on the psi(3770) resonance with the CLEO-c detector at the CESR collider. We use this determination to derive a value for the pseudoscalar decay constant fD+, combining with measurements of the D+ lifetime and assuming |Vcd| = |Vus|. We find fD+ = (205.8 +/- 8.5 +/- 2.5) MeV. The decay rate asymmetry [B(D+ -> mu+ nu)-B(D- -> mu- nu)]/[B(D+ -> mu+ nu)+B(D- -> mu- nu)] = 0.08 +/- 0.08, consistent with no CP viol…
Recent BaBar results on rare B decays involving flavour-changing neutral currents or purely leptonic final states are presented. New measurements of the CP asymmetries in B -> K* gamma, B -> K*2(1430) gamma, and b -> s gamma are reported, as well as a new measurement of the B -> K* gamma branching fraction. Also reported are updated limits on B -> mu nu and recent measurements of B -> K* l+ l- and b -> s l+ l-. The data sample comprises 123 10^6 Y4S -> B Bbar decays collected with the BaBar detector at the PEP-II e+e- storage ring.
We report the first measurement of the forward-backward asymmetry and the ratios of Wilson coefficients A_9/A_7 and A_10/A_7 in B to K*l+l-, obtained using 386M BBbar pairs that were collected at the Y(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+ e- collider. We also summarise the results obtained by Belle in searches for purely leptonic B decays, with emphasis on their impact on models of physics beyond the Standard Model.
Using the CLEO II detector we have performed the first search for $CP$ violation in tau lepton decay. CP violation in lepton decay does not occur in the minimal standard model but can occur in extensions such as the multi-Higgs doublet model. It appears as a characteristic difference between the $τ^+$ and $τ^-$ decay angular distributions for the semi-leptonic decay modes such as $τ^- \to K^0 π^- ν$. We define an observable asymmetry to exploit this and find no evidence for any CP violation.
We have studied the leptonic decay D^+_s to tau^+ nu_tau, via the decay channel tau^+ to e^+ nu_e anti-nu_tau, using a sample of tagged D_s^+ decays collected near the D^*_s D_s peak production energy in e^+ e^- collisions with the CLEO-c detector. We obtain B(D^+_s to tau^+ nu_tau) = (5.30 +- 0.47 +- 0.22) % and determine the decay constant f_Ds = (252.5 +- 11.1 +- 5.2) MeV, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic.
Leptoquarks are hypothetical new particles, which couple quarks directly to leptons. They experienced a renaissance in recent years as they are prime candidates to explain the so-called \textit{flavor anomalies}, i.e. the deviations between the Standard Model predictions and measurements in $b\to s\ell^{+}\ell^{-}$ and $b\to cτν$ processes and in the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon. At the one-loop level these particles unavoidably generate effects in the purely leptonic processes like $Z\to\ell^{+}\ell^{-}$, $Z\toν\barν$, $W\to\ellν$ and $h\to\ell^{+}\ell^{-}$ and can even generate non-…
In light of recent experimental information from the CLEO, BaBar, KTeV, and Belle collaborations, we investigate some consequences of the possibility that a light spin-one particle is responsible for the three Sigma^+ -> p mu^+ mu^- events observed by the HyperCP experiment. In particular, allowing the new particle to have both vector and axial-vector couplings to ordinary fermions, we systematically study its contributions to various processes involving b-flavored mesons, including B-Bbar mixing as well as leptonic, inclusive, and exclusive B decays. Using the latest experimental data, we ext…

With the recent measurements of purely leptonic $D^+_{(s)}$ decays and semileptonic $D$ decays in conjunction with decay constants $f_{D^+_{(s)}}$ and form factors $f^{π(K)}_+(0)$ calculated in LQCD, we extract the magnitudes of $V_{cd}$ and $V_{cs}$ to be $|V_{cd}|=0.218\pm0.005$ and $|V_{cs}|=0.987\pm0.016$. Compared to those given in PDG2013, the precisions of these newly extracted $|V_{cd}|$ and $|V_{cs}|$ are improved by more than 2.0 and 1.5 factors, respectively. With the newly extracted $|V_{cd}|$ and $|V_{cs}|$ together with other CKM matrix elements given in PDG2013, we check the uni…

We test whether or not the tau lepton manifests the same couplings as the mu lepton by investigating the relative decay rates in purely leptonic D+ meson decays. Specifically, we place the first upper limit on the ratio R=Gamma(D+ -> tau+ nu)/Gamma(D+ -> mu+ nu). We use 281 inverse pb of data accumulated at the psi(3770) resonance with the CLEO-c detector, to determine B(D+ -> tau+ nu) < 2.1 x 10^(-3) at 90% confidence level (C. L.). The ratio of R to the Standard Model expectation of 2.65 then is <1.8 at 90% C. L., consistent with the prediction of lepton universality.

We present a freeze-in realization of the Dirac neutrinogenesis in which the decaying particle that generates the lepton-number asymmetry is in thermal equilibrium. As the right-handed Dirac neutrinos are produced non-thermally, the lepton-number asymmetry is accumulated and partially converted to the baryon-number asymmetry via the rapid sphaleron transitions. The necessary CP-violating condition can be fulfilled by a purely thermal kinetic phase from the wavefunction correction in the lepton-doublet sector, which has been neglected in most leptogenesis-based setup. Furthermore, this conditio…
The growing experimental indication of Lepton Flavour Universality Violation (LFUV) both in charged- and neutral-current semileptonic B-decays, has triggered many theoretical interpretations of such non-standard phenomena. Focusing on popular scenarios where the explanation of these anomalies requires New Physics at the TeV scale, we emphasise the importance of including electroweak corrections to obtain trustable predictions for the models in question. We find that the most important quantum effects are the modifications of the leptonic couplings of the W and Z vector bosons and the generatio…
Lepton flavour universality (LFU) in B-decays is revisited by considering a class of semileptonic operators defined at a scale Lambda above the electroweak scale v. The importance of quantum effects, so far neglected in the literature, is emphasised. We construct the low-energy effective Lagrangian taking into account the running effects from Lambda down to v through the one-loop renormalization group equations (RGE) in the limit of exact electroweak symmetry and QED RGEs from v down to the 1 GeV scale. The most important quantum effects turn out to be the modification of the leptonic coupling…
Purely leptonic $B$ meson decays provide unique probes for physics Beyond the Standard Model. We study the impact of a scalar leptoquark, $S_1$, on $B \to μ\barν$ decay. We find that, for $m_{S_1}\sim 1$ TeV, the $S_1$ leptoquark can modify the $B \to μ\barν$ rate significantly. Such a leptoquark can in prinicple also alter the $B \to τ\barν$ rate. However, current searches from LHC and low energy physics provide some constraints on the parameter space.
Flavour-changing neutral-current processes, such as $b\to s \ell^+\ell^-$, are forbidden at tree level in the Standard Model and hence might receive comparatively large corrections from new particles. This document highlights recent measurements from LHCb on $b\to s \ell^+\ell^-$ and purely-leptonic decays, including tests of lepton flavour universality and searches for lepton flavour violation.
We search for the purely leptonic decay $B^{\pm} \to μ^{\pm} ν_μ$ in the full BaBar dataset, having an integrated luminosity of approximately 426 fb$^{-1}$. We adopt a fully inclusive approach, where the signal candidate is identified by the highest momentum lepton in the event and the companion $B$ is inclusively reconstructed without trying to identify its decay products. We set a preliminary upper limit on the branching fraction of $\BR(B^{\pm} \to μ^{\pm} ν_μ) < 1.3 \times 10^{-6}$ at the 90% confidence level, using a Bayesian approach.
This article reports on the feasibility of testing of the symmetry under reversal in time in a purely leptonic system constituted by positronium atoms using the J-PET detector. The present state of T symmetry tests is discussed with an emphasis on the scarcely explored sector of leptonic systems. Two possible strategies of searching for manifestations of T violation in non-vanishing angular correlations of final state observables in the decays of metastable triplet states of positronium available with J-PET are proposed and discussed. Results of a pilot measurement with J-PET and assessment of…
