We measure the branching ratio of the purely leptonic decay of the D+ meson with unprecedented precision as B(D+ -> mu+ nu) = (3.82 +/- 0.32 +/- 0.09)x10^(-4), using 818/pb of data taken on the psi(3770) resonance with the CLEO-c detector at the CESR collider. We use this determination to derive a value for the pseudoscalar decay constant fD+, combining with measurements of the D+ lifetime and assuming |Vcd| = |Vus|. We find fD+ = (205.8 +/- 8.5 +/- 2.5) MeV. The decay rate asymmetry [B(D+ -> mu+ nu)-B(D- -> mu- nu)]/[B(D+ -> mu+ nu)+B(D- -> mu- nu)] = 0.08 +/- 0.08, consistent with no CP violation. We also set 90% confidence level upper limits on B(D+ -> tau+ nu) < 1.2x10^(-3) and B(D+ -> e+ nu) < 8.8x10^(-6).
We have computed the form factors for B --> pi and D --> K(pi) semileptonic decays on the lattice by using full non-perturbative O(a) improvement, in the quenched approximation. Our results are expressed in terms of few parameters which describe the q^2-dependence and normalization of the form factors.
We determine the masses and decay constants of pseudoscalar mesons $ D $, $ D_s $, and $ K $ in quenched lattice QCD with exact chiral symmetry. For 100 gauge configurations generated with single-plaquette action at $ β= 6.1 $ on the $ 20^3 \times 40 $ lattice, we compute point-to-point quark propagators for 30 quark masses in the range $ 0.03 \le m_q a \le 0.80 $, and measure the time-correlation functions of pseudoscalar and vector mesons. The inverse lattice spacing $ a^{-1} $ is determined with the experimental input of $ f_π$, while the strange quark bare mass $ m_s a = 0.08 $, and the ch…

Lepton-flavor-violating decays of light pseudoscalars, $P=π^0,η,η'\toμe$, are stringently suppressed in the Standard Model up to tiny contributions from neutrino oscillations, so that their observation would be a clear indication for physics beyond the Standard Model. However, in effective field theory such decays proceed via axial-vector, pseudoscalar, or gluonic operators, which are, at the same time, probed in spin-dependent $μ\to e$ conversion in nuclei. We derive master formulae that connect both processes in a model-independent way in terms of Wilson coefficients, and study the implicati…
Analyzing 600/pb of e+e- collisions at 4170 MeV center-of-mass energy with the CLEO-c detector, we measure the branching fraction B(Ds+ -> tau+ nu)=(5.52\pm 0.57\pm 0.21)% using the tau+ -> rho^+ anti-nu decay mode. Combining with other CLEO measurements of B(Ds+ -> tau+ nu) we determine the pseudoscalar decay constant fDs = (259.7\pm 7.8\pm 3.4) MeV consistent with the value obtained from our Ds+ -> mu+ nu measurement of (257.6\pm 10.3\pm 4.3) MeV. Combining these measurements we find a value of fDs=(259.0 \pm 6.2\pm 3.0) MeV, that differs from the most accurate prediction based on unquenched…
We evaluate the decay branching ratios of $χ_{c1}\to PS$, in a quark model parametrization scheme, where $P$ and $S$ stand for pseudoscalar and scalar meson, respectively. An interesting feature of this decay process is that the $c\bar{c}$ annihilate via the pQCD hair-pin diagram is supposed to be dominant. Hence, this decay process should be sensitive to the quark components of the final-state light mesons, and would provide a great opportunity for testing the mixing relations among the scalar mesons, i.e. $f_0(1370)$, $f_0(1500)$ and $f_0(1710)$, by tagging the final state pseudoscalar meson…
We aim to explore the production rate of the pseudoscalar glueball in $J/ψ$ radiative decay by lattice QCD in quenched approximation. The calculation is performed on three anisotropic lattices with the spatial lattice spacing ranging from 0.222(2) fm to 0.110(1) fm. As a calibration of some systematical uncertainties, we first extract the $M1$ form factor $\hat{V}(0)$ of the process $J/ψ\toγη_{c}$ and get the result $\hat{V}(0)=1.933(41)$ in the continuum limit, which gives the partial width $Γ(J/ψ\toγη_{c})=2.47(11)$ keV. These results are in agreement with that of previous lattice studies. A…
Strong decays of vector ($^3S_1$) mesons to the pair of pseudoscalar ($^1S_0$) mesons are considered in the framework of the microscopic decay mechanism and the relativistic quark model based on the quasipotential approach. The quark-antiquark potential, which was previously used for the successful description of meson spectroscopy and electroweak decays, is employed as the source of the $q\bar q$ pair creation. The relativistic structure of the decay matrix element, relativistic contributions and boosts of the meson wave functions are comprehensively taken into account. The calculated rates o…
We carry out a $U$-spin symmetry analysis for CP violation in $B^- $ decays into three light $π^-π^-π^+$, $π^- K^-K^+$, $K^-K^-K^+$ and $K^- π^-π^+$ mesons. We clarify some subtle points in constructing decay amplitudes with $U=0$ formed by the two negatively charged light mesons in the final states. $U$-spin conserving momentum independent and momentum dependent decay amplitudes, and $U$-spin violating decay amplitudes due to quark mass difference are constructed.
We investigate the $O(α_s v^2)$ correction to the process of pseudoscalar quarkonium decay to two photons in nonrelativistic QCD (NRQCD) factorization framework. The short-distance coefficient associated with the relative-order $v^2$ NRQCD matrix element is determined to next-to-leading order in $α_s$ through the perturbative matching procedure. Some technical subtleties encountered in calculating the ${O(α_s)$ QCD amplitude are thoroughly addressed.
We introduce a parametrization scheme for $J/ψ(ψ^\prime)\to VP$ where the effects of SU(3) flavor symmetry breaking and doubly OZI-rule violation (DOZI) can be parametrized by certain parameters with explicit physical interpretations. This scheme can be used to clarify the glueball-$q\bar{q}$ mixing within the pseudoscalar mesons. We also include the contributions from the electromagnetic (EM) decays of $J/ψ$ and $ψ^\prime$ via $J/ψ(ψ^\prime)\to γ^*\to VP$. Via study of the isospin violated channels, such as $J/ψ(ψ^\prime)\to ρη$, $ρη^\prime$, $ωπ^0$ and $ϕπ^0$, reasonable constraints on the E…
A sample of 3.79 million psi(2S) decays observed in the BES detector is used to study the decays of charmonium to axialvector plus pseudoscalar mesons. The branching fraction for psi(2S) to b1pi agrees with expectations. A contrasting behavior between the psi(2S) and the J/psi decays to K1K cannot be accommodated by an adjustment of the singlet-triplet axialvector mixing angle.
In this paper we extend our analyses of the decay constant and distribution amplitude with an improved holographic wavefunction to the heavy-light pseudoscalar mesons. In the evaluations, the helicity-dependence of the holographic wavefunction is considered; and an independent mass scale parameter is employed to moderate the strong suppression induced by the heavy quark. Under the constraints from decay constants and masses of pseudoscalar mesons, the $χ^2$-analyses for the holographic parameters exhibit a rough consistence with the results obtained by fitting the Regge trajectory. With the fi…
The electromagnetic decay contributions to $J/ψ(ψ^\prime)\to VP$, where $V$ and $P$ stand for vector and pseudoscalar meson, respectively, are investigated in a vector meson dominance (VMD) model. We show that $J/ψ(ψ^\prime)\to γ^*\to VP$ can be constrained well with the available experimental information. We find that this process has significant contributions in $ψ^\prime\to VP$ and may play a key role in understanding the deviations from the so-called "12% rule" for the branching ratio fractions between $ψ^\prime\to VP$ and $J/ψ\to VP$. We also address that the "12% rule" becomes very empir…
We study the scaling of the $^3S_1-^1S_0$ meson mass splitting and the pseudoscalar weak decay constants with the mass of the meson, as seen in the available experimental data. We use an effective light-front QCD-inspired dynamical model regulated at short-distances to describe the valence component of the pseudoscalar mesons. The experimentally known values of the mass splittings, decay constants (from global lattice-QCD averages) and the pion charge form factor up to 4 [GeV/c]$^2$ are reasonably described by the model
We present our model-independent and data-driven method to describe pseudoscalar meson transition form factors in the space- and (low-energy) time-like regions. The method is general and conforms a toolkit applicable to any other form factor, of one and two variables, with the potential to include both high- and low-energy QCD constraints altogether. The method makes use of analyticity and unitary properties of form factors, it is simple, systematic and can be improved upon by including new data. In the present discussion, the method is used to show the impact of experimental data for precisio…
New light pseudoscalars, such as axion-like particles, appear in many well-motivated extensions of the Standard Model and provide an exciting target for present and future experiments. We study the experimental sensitivity for such particles by revising the CHARM exclusion contour, updating bounds from LHCb and presenting prospects for NA62 and SHiP. We first consider a simplified model of a light pseudoscalar $A$ and then propose a model-independent approach applicable to any spin-0 boson light enough to be produced in B-meson decays. As illustration, we provide upper bounds on $\text{BR}(B \…
Global fits to charmless B --> PP decays in the framework of flavor SU(3) symmetry are updated and improved without reference to the \sin2βmeasured from the charmonium decay modes. Fit results directly constrain the (\barρ,\barη) vertex of the unitarity triangle, and are used to predict the branching ratios and CP asymmetries of all decay modes, including those of the B_s system. Different schemes of SU(3) breaking in decay amplitude sizes are analyzed. The major breaking effect between strangeness-conserving and strangeness-changing decays can be accounted for by including a ratio of decay co…
We review the physics of purely leptonic decays of $π^\pm$, $K^\pm$, $D^{\pm}$, $D_s^\pm$, and $B^\pm$ pseudoscalar mesons. The measured decay rates are related to the product of the relevant weak-interaction-based CKM matrix element of the constituent quarks and a strong interaction parameter related to the overlap of the quark and antiquark wave-functions in the meson, called the decay constant $f_P$. The interplay between theory and experiment is different for each particle. Theoretical predictions of $f_B$ that are needed in the $B$ sector can be tested by measuring $f_{D^+}$ and $f_{D_s^+…
The analysis of 60 1/pb data collected on the psi(3770) resonance with the CLEO-c detector has produced the first statistically significant signal for D+ -> mu+ nu decay and led to the measurement of the decay branching fraction B(D+ -> mu+ nu) = (3.5 +- 1.4 +- 0.6) x 10-4 and the pseudoscalar decay constant f_D = (202 +- 41 +- 17) MeV.
In this paper the dynamical spin effects of the light-front holographic wavefunctions for light pseudoscalar mesons are studied using two different assumptions. These improved wavefunctions are then confronted with a number of sensitive hadronic observables: the decay constants of $π$ and $K$ mesons, their $ξ$-moments, the pion-to-photon transition form factor, and the pure annihilation $\bar{B}_{s}\to π^+ π^-$ and $\bar{B}_{d}\to K^+K^-$ decays. Taking $f_π$, $f_{K}$ and their ratio $f_{K}/f_π$ as constraint conditions, the $χ^2$ analyses for holographic parameters, including the mass scale p…

Mass dependences of the total production rates per hadronic Z decay of all light-flavour hadrons measured so far at LEP are extrapolated to the zero mass limit (m=0) using phenomenological laws of hadron production related to the spin, isospin, strangeness content and mass of the particles. The vector-to-pseudoscalar and meson-to-baryon ratios at m=0 are found to be: rho^+ / 3 pi^+ = 1.2 +/- 0.3 and pi^+ / p = 2.9 +/- 0.3, in good agreement with the predictions of quark combinatorics.
The pseudoscalar-vector-vector correlator is constructed using two meson multiplets in the vector and two in the pseudoscalar channel. The parameters are constrained by the operator product expansion at leading order where two or all three momenta are considered as large. Demanding in addition the Brodsky-Lepage limit one obtains (in the chiral limit) a pion-vector-vector correlator with only one free parameter. The singly virtual pion transition form factor and the decay width of omega to pion and photon are independent of this parameter and can serve as cross-checks of the results. The free …
Flavor SU(3) symmetry, including $30\%$ first order SU(3) breaking, has been shown to describe adequately a vast amount of data for charmed meson decays to two pseudoscalar mesons and to a vector and a pseudoscalar meson. We review a recent dramatic progress achieved by applying a high order perturbation expansion in flavor SU(3) breaking and treating carefully isospin breaking. We identify a class of U-spin related $D^0$ decays to pairs involving charged pseudoscalar or vector mesons, for which high-precision nonlinear amplitude relations are predicted. Symmetry breaking terms affecting these…
We review here the physics of purely leptonic decays of pi-, K-, D+, Ds+, and B- pseudoscalar mesons. The measured decay rates are related to the product of the relevant weak interaction based CKM matrix element of the constituent quarks and a strong interaction parameter related to the overlap of the quark and anti-quark wave-functions in the meson, called the decay constant fP. The interplay between theory and experiment is different for each particle. Theoretical predictions that are necessary in the B sector can be tested, for example, in the charm sector. One such measurement, that of fDs…
In this paper we explore the decay $η_b --> τ^+ τ^-$ as a probe for a light pseudoscalar or a light axial vector state. We estimate the standard model branching ratio for this decay to be $~4\times 10^{-9}$. We show that considerably larger branching ratios, up to the present experimental limit of ~8%, is possible in models with a light pseudoscalar or a light axial vector state. As we do not include possible mixing effects between the light pseudoscalar and the $η_b$, our results should be reliable when the pseudoscalar mass is away from the $η_b$ mass.
Based on the branching fractions of J/psi(psi(2S))-> VP from different collaborations, the pseudoscalar mixing is extensively discussed with a well established phenomenological model. The mixing angle is determined to be -14 degree by fitting to the new world average if only quark content is considered. After taking into account the gluonic content in eta and eta prime simultaneously, the investigation shows that eta favors only consisting of light quarks, while the gluonic content of eta prime is Z_{eta prime}^2=0.30\pm0.24.
A search for the light pseudoscalar sgoldstino production in three-body K- decay K- --> pi-pi0 P has been performed with the ISTRA+ detector exposed to the 25 GeV negative secondary of the U-70 proton synchrotron. No signal is seen. Upper limits for the branching ratio at 90% confidence level vary between 2.0 10**-5 and 0.5 10**-5 in the effective mass m(P) range from 0 up to 190 MeV. Our results improve the limits published by the E787 Collaboration in the mass interval between 0 and 120 MeV and are the first ones at higher masses.
We show that the newly measured branching ratios of vector charmonia ($J/ψ$, $ψ^\prime$ and $ψ(3770))$ into $γP$, where $P$ stands for light pseudoscalar mesons $π^0$, $η$, and $η^\prime$, can be well understood in the framework of vector meson dominance (VMD) in association with the $η_c$-$η(η^\prime)$ mixings due to the axial gluonic anomaly. These two mechanisms behave differently in $J/ψ$ and $ψ^\prime\to γP$. A coherent understanding of the branching ratio patterns observed in $J/ψ(ψ^\prime)\to γP$ can be achieved by self-consistently including those transition mechanisms at hadronic leve…
In 60 inverse-pb of data taken on the psi(3770) resonance with the CLEO-c detector, we find 8 D+ -> mu+ nu decay candidates that are mostly signal, containing only 1 estimated background. Using this statistically compelling sample, we measure a value of B(D+ -> mu+ nu) = (3.5 +/- 1.4 +/- 0.6) x10^(-4), and determine fD+=(202 +/- 41 +/-17) MeV.

The ratio of partial widths Gamma(D_s^+ --> mu^+ nu_mu)/Gamma(D_s^+ --> phi pi^+) is measured to be 0.143 +/- 0.018 +/- 0.006 allowing a determination of the pseudoscalar decay constant f_{D_s} = (283 +/- 17 +/- 7 +/- 14) MeV. The errors are statistical, systematic, and from the D_s^+ --> phi pi^+ branching ratio, respectively.
Using data collected on the psi(3770) resonance and near the Ds*+ Ds- peak production energy by the CLEO-c detector, we study the decays of the possible D->PP modes and report measurements of or upper limits on all branching fractions for Cabibbo-favored, singly-Cabibbo-suppressed, and doubly-Cabibbo-suppressed D->PP decays except modes involving K0L (and except D0->K+ pi-). We normalize with respect to the Cabibbo-favored D modes, D0->K- pi+, D+->K- pi+ pi+, and Ds+->K+ K0S.
We report results of searches for charmless hadronic B meson decays to pseudoscalar(pi^+-,K^+-,Pi^0 or Ks^0)-vector(Rho, K* or Omega) final states. Using 9.7 million BBbar pairs collected with the CLEO detector, we report first observation of B^- --> Pi^-Rho^0, B^0 --> Pi^+-Rho^-+ and B^- --> Pi^-Omega, which are expected to be dominated by hadronic b --> u transitions. The measured branching fractions are (10.4+3.3-3.4+-2.1)x10^-6, (27.6+8.4-7.4+-4.2)x10^-6 and (11.3+3.3-2.9+-1.4)x10^-6, respectively. Branching fraction upper limits are set for all the other decay modes investigated.
Using 53 pb$^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ annihilation data taken at $\sqrt{s}=3.686$ GeV, a comprehensive study has been made of the radiative decays of samples of 5.1 million $J/ψ$ and 24.5 million $ψ(2S)$ into pairs of pseudoscalar mesons, $π^+π^-$, $π^0π^0$, $K^+K^-$, $K_S^0K_S^0$, and $ηη$. Product branching fractions for the radiative decays of $J/ψ$ and $ψ(2S)$ to scalar resonances $f_0(1370,1500,1710,2100, \text{and} 2200)$, and tensor resonances $f_2(1270,1525, \text{and} 2230)$ have been determined, and are discussed in relation to predicted glueballs. For $ψ(2S)$ radiative decays the search fo…
With 14 Million psi' events, many two-body decay channels are studied, which include Vector Pseudoscalar, Vector Tensor, Pseudoscalar Pseudoscalar channels. Based on systematical measurements for charmonium decay, 12% rule is tested, the phase between strong and electromagnetic amplitudes is studied. In addition, hadronic and radiative transitions of charmonia are measured to improve experimental accuracy and test theoretical calculations.
The absolute branching fraction of $D^+ \to μ^+ ν$ has been directly measured by an analysis of a data sample of about 33 ${\rm pb^{-1}}$ collected around $\sqrt{s}=3.773$ GeV with the BES-II at the BEPC. At these energies, $D^-$ meson is produced in pair as $e^+e^-\to D^{+} D^{-}$. A total of $5321 \pm 149 \pm 160$ $D^-$ mesons are reconstructed from this data set. In the recoil side of the tagged $D^-$ mesons, $2.67\pm1.74$ purely leptonic decay events of $D^+ \to μ^+ ν$ are observed. This yields a branching fraction of $BF(D^+ \to μ^+ ν_μ) = (0.122^{+0.111}_{-0.053}\pm 0.010)%$, and a corre…
Radiative decays of the radially excited charmonium resonance, ψ(2S), into ππ, K Kbar and ηηfinal states have been measured in a sample of 3.96 * 10^6 ψ(2S) events collected by the BES collaboration. The branching ratios B(ψ(2S) -> γf_{2}(1270)) = (2.27 +- 0.26 +- 0.39) * 10^{-4} and B(ψ(2S) -> γf_0(1710)) * B(f_0(1710) -> K^+ K^-) = (5.59 +- 1.12 +- 0.93) * 10^{-5} are obtained. When compared to the corresponding radiative J/ψdecays, the observed ψ(2S) radiative decay rates into γf_2(1270) and γf_0(1710) are consistent with the 15% rule.

We present a new determination of the Ds decay constant, f_{Ds} using 5 million continuum charm events obtained with the CLEO II detector. Our value is derived from our new measured ratio of widths for Ds -> mu nu/Ds -> phi pi of 0.173+/- 0.021 +/- 0.031. Taking the branching ratio for Ds -> phi pi as (3.6 +/- 0.9)% from the PDG, we extract f_{Ds} = (280 +/- 17 +/- 25 +/- 34){MeV}. We compare this result with various model calculations.
