We prove the weak Harnack inequality for the functions $u$ which belong to the corresponding De Giorgi classes $DG^{-}(Ω)$ under the additional assumption that $u\in L^{s}_{loc}(Ω)$ with some $s> 0$. In particular, our result covers new cases of functionals with a variable exponent or double-phase functionals under the non-logarithmic condition.
We prove Harnack's inequality for bounded weak solutions to quasilinear second order elliptic equations with generalized Orlicz growth conditions. Our approach covers new cases of variable exponent and (p,q) growth conditions.
We study unbounded weak supersolutions of elliptic partial differential equations with generalized Orlicz (Musielak--Orlicz) growth. We show that they satisfy the weak Harnack inequality with optimal exponent provided that they belong to a suitable Lebesgue or Sobolev space. Furthermore, we establish the sharpness of our central assumptions.
We study minimizers of non-autonomous functionals \begin{align*} \inf_u \int_Ωφ(x,|\nabla u|) \, dx \end{align*} when $φ$ has generalized Orlicz growth. We consider the case where the upper growth rate of $φ$ is unbounded and prove the Harnack inequality for minimizers. Our technique is based on "truncating" the function $φ$ to approximate the minimizer and Harnack estimates with uniform constants via a Bloch estimate for the approximating minimizers.
We prove continuity up to the boundary of the minimizer of an obstacle problem and higher integrability of its gradient under generalized Orlicz growth. The result recovers similar results obtained in the special cases of polynomial growth, variable exponent growth and produces new results for Orlicz and double phase growth.
We prove local $C^{0,α}$- and $C^{1,α}$-regularity for the local solution to an obstacle problem with non-standard growth. These results cover as special cases standard, variable exponent, double phase and Orlicz growth.
We study the following boundary value problem (P)\ \ \ \ \ {-\mathrm{div}(a(|\nabla u|)\nabla u)=f(x,u),\ & in $Ω$, u=0, & on $\partialΩ$} with nonhomogeneous principal part. By assuming the nonlinearity $f(x, t)$ being subcritical growth, some abstract results of problem (P) are obtained: (1) Regularity; (2) Orlicz-Sobolev versus Hölder local minimizer; (3) Strong comparison principle. Applying these abstract results and critical point theory, we prove the existence of multiple solutions of problem (P) in an Orlicz-Sobolev space.
In this note we consider problems related to parabolic partial differential equations in geodesic metric measure spaces, that are equipped with a doubling measure and a Poincaré inequality. We prove a location and scale invariant Harnack inequality for a minimizer of a variational problem related to a doubly non-linear parabolic equation involving the p-Laplacian. Moreover, we prove the sufficiency of the Grigor'yan--Saloff-Coste theorem for general p > 1 in geodesic metric spaces. The approach used is strictly variational, and hence we are able to carry out the argument in the metric setting.
We study properties of $\mathcal{A}$-harmonic and $\mathcal{A}$-superharmonic functions involving an operator having generalized Orlicz-growth embracing besides Orlicz case also natural ranges of variable exponent and double-phase cases. In particular, Harnack's Principle and Minimum Principle are provided for $\mathcal{A}$-superharmonic functions and boundary Harnack inequality is proven for $\mathcal{A}$-harmonic functions.
We study energy functionals obtained by adding a possibly discontinuous potential to an interaction term modeled upon a Gagliardo-type fractional seminorm. We prove that minimizers of such non-differentiable functionals are locally bounded, Hölder continuous, and that they satisfy a suitable Harnack inequality. Hence, we provide an extension of celebrated results of M. Giaquinta and E. Giusti to the nonlocal setting. To do this, we introduce a particular class of fractional Sobolev functions, reminiscent of that considered by E. De Giorgi in his seminal paper of 1957. The flexibility of these …
In this paper, we establish pointwise estimates for supersolutions of quasilinear elliptic equations with structural conditions involving a generalized Orlicz growth in terms of a Wolff type potential. As a consequence, under the extra assumption, we obtain that the supersolutions satisfy a Harnack inequality and local Hölder continuity.
We study the qualitative properties of functions belonging to the corresponding De Giorgi classes \begin{equation*} \int\limits_{B_{r(1-σ)}(x_{0})}\,\varPhi(x, |\nabla(u-k)_{\pm}|)\,dx \leqslant γ\,\int\limits_{B_{r}(x_{0})}\,\varPhi\bigg(x, \frac{(u-k)_{\pm}}{σr}\bigg)\,dx, \end{equation*} where $σ$, $r \in (0,1)$, $k\in \mathbb{R}$ and the function $\varPhi$ satisfies the non-logarithmic condition \begin{equation*} \bigg(r^{-n}\int\limits_{B_{r}(x_{0})}[\varPhi\big(x,\frac{v}{r}\big)]^{s}\,dx\bigg)^{\frac{1}{s}}\bigg(r^{-n}\int\limits_{B_{r}(x_{0})}[\varPhi\big(x,\frac{v}{r}\big)]^{-t}\,dx\b…
We study asymptotic behavior of sub-solutions to non-uniformly elliptic equations with nonstandard growth. In particular, Harnack type inequalities are proved. Our approach gives new results for the cases with (p,q) nonlinearity and generalized Orlicz growth.
We state and prove a general Harnack inequality for minimizers of nonlocal, possibly degenerate, integro-differential operators, whose model is the fractional p-Laplacian.
We show local Hölder continuity of quasiminimizers of functionals with non-standard (Musielak--Orlicz) growth. Compared with previous results, we cover more general minimizing functionals and need fewer assumptions. We prove Harnack's inequality and a Morrey type estimate for quasiminimizers. Combining this with Ekeland's variational principle, we obtain local Hölder continuity for $ω$-minimizers.
We consider a nonlinear eigenvalue problem for some elliptic equations governed by general operators including the $p$-Laplacian. The natural framework in which we consider such equations is that of Orlicz-Sobolev spaces. we exhibit two positive constants $λ_{0}$ and $λ_{1}$ with $λ_{0}\leqλ_{1}$ such that $λ_1$ is an eigenvalue of the problem while any value $λ<λ_{0}$ cannot be so. By means of Harnack-type inequalities and a strong maximum principle, we prove the isolation of $λ_{1}$ on the right side. We emphasize that throughout the paper no $Δ_2$-condition is needed.
A way to measure the lower growth rate of $φ:Ω\times [0,\infty) \to [0,\infty)$ is to require $t \mapsto φ(x,t)t^{-r}$ to be increasing in $(0,\infty)$. If this condition holds with $r=1$, then \[ \inf_{u\in f+W^{1, φ}_0(Ω)}\int_Ωφ(x, |\nabla u|) \, dx \] with boundary values $f\in W^{1,φ}(Ω)$ does not necessary have a minimizer. However, if $φ$ is replaced by $φ^p$, then the growth condition holds with $r=p > 1$ and thus (under some additional conditions) the corresponding energy integral has a minimizer. We show that a sequence $(u_p)$ of such minimizers convergences when $p \to 1^+$ in a su…
Under appropriate assumptions on the $N(Ω)$-fucntion, the De Giorgi process is presented in the framework of Musielak-Orlicz-Sobolev space to prove the Hölder continuity of fully nonlinear elliptic problems. As the applications, the Hölder continuity of the minimizers for a class of the energy functionals in Musielak-Orlicz-Sobolev spaces is proved; and furthermore, the Hölder continuity of the weak solutions for a class of fully nonlinear elliptic equations is provided.
The aim of this paper is to study the heterogeneous optimization problem \begin{align*} \mathcal {J}(u)=\int_Ω(G(|\nabla u|)+qF(u^+)+hu+λ_{+}χ_{\{u>0\}} )\text{d}x\rightarrow\text{min}, \end{align*} in the class of functions $ W^{1,G}(Ω)$ with $ u-φ\in W^{1,G}_{0}(Ω)$, for a given function $φ$, where $W^{1,G}(Ω)$ is the class of weakly differentiable functions with $\int_ΩG(|\nabla u|)\text{d}x<\infty$. The functions $G$ and $F$ satisfy structural conditions of Lieberman's type that allow for a different behavior at $0$ and at $\infty$. {}{Moreover, $F$ allows for a subcritical growth.} Given …

We study minimizers of the Dirichlet phi-energy integral with generalized Orlicz growth. We prove the Kellogg property, the set of irregular points has zero capacity, and give characterizations of semiregular boundary points. The results are new ever for the special cases double phase and Orlicz growth.
In this paper we prove the Lipschitz regularity for local minimizers of convex variational integrals of the form \[ \mathfrak{F}( v, Ω)= \int_Ω \! F(x, Dv(x)) \, dx, \] where, for ${n > 2}$ and $N\ge 1$, $Ω$ is a bounded open set in $\mathbb{R}^n$, $u \in W^{1,1}(Ω, \mathbb{R}^N)$ and the energy density $F:Ω\times \mathbb{R}^{N \times n}\to \mathbb{R}$ satisfies the so called variable growth conditions. The main novelty of the paper is that we assume an almost critical regularity in the Orlicz Sobolev setting for the energy density as a function of the $x$ variable.
We show that quasi-minimizers of non-homogeneous energy functionals on metric measure spaces are locally Hölder continuous and satisfy the Harnack inequality. We assume that the spaces are doubling and support a Poincaré inequality. The proof is based on the De Giorgi method, combined with the "expansion of positivity" technique.
We consider the optimization problem of minimizing $\int_ΩG(|\nabla u|)+λχ_{\{u>0\}} dx$ in the class of functions $W^{1,G}(Ω)$ with $u-ϕ_0\in W_0^{1,G}(Ω)$, for a given $ϕ_0\geq 0$ and bounded. $W^{1,G}(Ω)$ is the class of weakly differentiable functions with $\int_ΩG(|\nabla u|) dx<\infty$. The conditions on the function G allow for a different behavior at 0 and at $\infty$. We prove that every solution u is locally Lipschitz continuous, that they are solution to a free boundary problem and that the free boundary, $\partial\{u>0\}\cap Ω$, is a regular surface. Also, we introduce the notion o…

We establish local $C^{1,α}$-regularity for some $α\in(0,1)$ and $C^α$-regularity for any $α\in(0,1)$ of local minimizers of the functional \[ v\ \mapsto\ \int_Ωϕ(x,|Dv|)\,dx, \] where $ϕ$ satisfies a $(p,q)$-growth condition. Establishing such a regularity theory with sharp, general conditions has been an open problem since the 1980s. In contrast to previous results, we formulate the continuity requirement on $ϕ$ in terms of a single condition for the map $(x,t)\mapsto ϕ(x,t)$, rather than separately in the $x$- and $t$-directions. Thus we can obtain regularity results for functionals without…
Under appropriate assumptions on the $N(Ω)$-fucntion, the $L^{Φ(A(x,\cdot))}$ estimate for the gradient of the minimizers of a class of energy functional in Musielak-Orlicz-Sobolev space $W^{1,A(x,\cdot)}$ is presented by using Calderón-Zygmund decomposition.
We investigate the De Giorgi-Nash-Moser theory for minimizers of mixed local and nonlocal functionals modeled after \[ v \mapsto \int_{\mathbb{R}^{n}}\int_{\mathbb{R}^{n}}\dfrac{|v(x)-v(y)|^{p}}{|x-y|^{n+sp}}\,dxdy+\int_Ωa(x)|Dv|^{q}\,dx, \] where $0<s<1<p \le q$ and $a(\cdot) \ge 0$. In particular, we prove Hölder regularity and Harnack's inequality under possibly sharp assumptions on $s,p,q$ and $a(\cdot)$.
For a class of functionals having the $(p,q)$-growth, we establish an improved range of exponents $p$, $q$ for which the Lavrentiev phenomenon does not occur. The proof is based on a standard mollification argument and Young convolution inequality. Our contribution is two-fold. First, we observe that it is sufficient to regularise only bounded functions. Second, we exploit the $L^{\infty}$ bound on the function rather than the $L^p$ estimate on the gradient. Our proof does not rely on the properties of minimizers to variational problems but it is rather a consequence of the underlying Musielak…
