We analyze the renormalization group fixed point of the two-dimensional Ising model at criticality. In contrast with expectations from tensor network renormalization (TNR), we show that a simple, explicit analytic description of this fixed point using operator-algebraic renormalization (OAR) is possible. Specifically, the fixed point is characterized in terms of spin-spin correlation functions. Explicit error bounds for the approximation of continuum correlation functions are given.
We consider the planar Ising model in a finite square box and we replace the temperature parameter with a function depending on the magnetization. This creates a feedback from the spin configuration onto the parameter, which drives the system towards the critical point. Using the finite-size scaling results of arXiv:0811.4507, we show that, when the size of the box grows to infinity, the temperature concentrates around the critical temperature of the planar Ising model on the square lattice.
The purpose of this modest note is to point out that the proof of the recent result of Huchcroft concerning continuity of phase transition in Bernoulli percolation is applicable to the setting of the Ising model with free boundary condition. This observation, together with a recent result of Aizenman, Duminil-Copin, and Sidoravicius implies that the Ising model on amenable quasi-transitive graph with exponential growth undergoes a second order phase transition.
In this essay, we briefly discuss recent developments, started a decade ago in the seminal work of Smirnov and continued by a number of authors, centered around the conformal invariance of the critical planar Ising model on $\mathbb{Z}^2$ and, more generally, of the critical Z-invariant Ising model on isoradial graphs (rhombic lattices). We also introduce a new class of embeddings of general weighted planar graphs (s-embeddings), which might, in particular, pave the way to true universality results for the planar Ising model.
On the space of Ising configurations on the 2-d square lattice, we consider a family of non Gibbsian measures introduced by using a pair Hamiltonian, depending on an additional inertial parameter $q$. These measures are related to the usual Gibbs measure on $\Z^2$ and turn out to be the marginal of the Gibbs measure of a suitable Ising model on the hexagonal lattice. The inertial parameter $q$ tunes the geometry of the system. The critical behaviour and the decay of correlation functions of these measures are studied thanks to relation with the Random Cluster model.
In this note we overview recent convergence results for correlations in the critical planar nearest-neighbor Ising model. We start with a short discussion of the combinatorics of the model and a definition of fermionic and spinor observables. After that, we illustrate our approach to spin correlations by a derivation of two classical explicit formulae in the infinite-volume limit. Then we describe the convergence results (as the mesh size tends to zero, in arbitrary planar domains) for fermionic correlators, energy-density and spin expectations. Finally, we discuss scaling limits of mixed corr…
Here is the first part of the summary of my work on random Ising model using real-space renormalization group (RSRG), also known as a Migdal-Kadanoff one. This approximate renormalization scheme was applied to the analysis thermodynamic properties of the model, and of probabilistic properties of a pair correlator, which is a fluctuating object in disordered systems. The Dyson-Ising ferromagnet is a one-dimensional Ising model with a power law interaction. When the power is between -1 and -2, the model has a phase transition. Van Enter and Le Ny proved that at sufficiently low temperatures the decimation renormalization group transformation is not defined in the sense that the renormalized measure is not a Gibbs measure. We consider a modified model in which the nearest neighbor couplings are much larger than the other couplings. For a family of Hamiltonians which includes critical cases, we prove that the first step of the renormalization group transforma…
A braiding operation defines a real-space renormalization group for anyonic chains. The resulting renormalization group flow can be used to define a quantum scaling limit by operator-algebraic renormalization. It is illustrated how this works for the Ising chain, also known as transverse-field Ising model. In this case, the quantum scaling limit results in the vacuum state of the well-known Ising CFT. Distinguishing between the braiding and its inverse is directly related to the chiral sectors of the Ising CFT. This has direct implications for the simulation of CFTs on topological quantum comp…
We try to design a simple model exhibiting self-organized criticality, which is amenable to a rigorous mathematical analysis. To this end, we modify the generalized Ising Curie-Weiss model by implementing an automatic control of the inverse temperature. For a class of symmetric distributions whose density satisfies some integrability conditions, we prove that the sum $S_n$ of the random variables behaves as in the typical critical generalized Ising Curie-Weiss model. The fluctuations are of order $n^{3/4}$, and the limiting law is $C\exp(-λx^4)\,dx$ where $C$ and $λ$ are suitable positive cons…
We study the evolution of the probability density of ensembles of iterates of the logistic map that advance towards and finally remain at attractors of representative dynamical regimes. We consider the mirror families of superstable attractors along the period-doubling cascade, and of chaotic-band attractors along the inverse band-splitting cascade. We examine also their common aperiodic accumulation point. The iteration time progress of the densities of trajectories is determined via the action of the Frobenius-Perron (FP) operator. As a difference with the study of individual orbits, the ana…
We consider the sequence of Gibbs measures of Ising models with Kac interaction defined on a periodic two-dimensional discrete torus near criticality. Using the convergence of the Glauber dynamic proven by H. Weber and J.C. Mourrat and a method by H. Weber and P. Tsatsoulis, we show tightness for the sequence of Gibbs measures of the Ising-Kac model near criticality and characterise the law of the limit as the $Φ^4_2$ measure on the torus. Our result is very similar to the one obtained by M. Cassandro, R. Marra and E. Presutti on $\mathbb{Z}^2$, but our strategy takes advantage of the dynamic,…
