The gauged $U(1)_{L_μ-L_τ}$ symmetry is the simplest possibility to explain the observed muon $g-2$, while being consistent with the neutrino oscillations through the seesaw mechanism. In this paper, we investigate if leptogenesis can work at the same time. At first glance, leptogenesis seems challenging because the right-handed neutrino masses are related to the $U(1)_{L_μ-L_τ}$ breaking scale of $10\,$-$\,100\,$GeV as required from the muon $g-2$. Contrary to this expectation, we find that non-thermal leptogenesis with the right-handed neutrino masses of $\mathcal{O}(10^{7})\,$GeV is possible. The successful scenario results in strict predictions on the neutrino oscillation parameters, which will be tested in future experiments.
A discrepancy between the experimental and theoretical results was reported for the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon. In leptogenesis scenarios which are due to a decay of right-handed neutrinos, this anomaly leads to large violations of lepton flavour within the framework of supersymmetric see-saw models. It is shown that for a hierarchical right-handed neutrino mass spectrum, we generically expect to observe μ\to e γin the near future experiment.
The evidence for dark matter signals a new class of particles at the TeV scale, which may manifest themselves indirectly through loop effects. In a simple model we show that these loop effects may be responsible for the enhanced muon anomalous magnetic moment, for the neutrino mass, as well as for leptogenesis in a novel way. This scenario can be verified at LHC experiments.
Observational evidences of nonzero neutrino masses and the existence of dark matter request physics beyond standard model. A model with extra scalars and leptonic vector-like fermions is introduced. By imposing a Z_2 symmetry, the neutrino masses as well as anomalous muon magnetic moment can be generated via one-loop effects at TeV-scale. An effort of explaining dark matter, Lithium problem, and leptogenesis is presented. This scenario can be tested at LHC and/or future experiments.
If the masses of at least two generations of right-handed neutrinos (RHNs) are near-degenerate, the scale of leptogenesis can be as low as $\sim$ 100 GeV. In this work, we study probing such resonant leptogenesis in the $B-L$ model at the LHC and future multi-TeV muon colliders via the process $Z'\to NN\to\ell^\pm\ell^\pm+{\rm jets}$, with $Z'$ the $U(1)_{B-L}$ gauge boson and $N$ the RHN. The same-sign dilepton feature of the signal makes it almost background-free, while the event number difference between positive and negative leptons is a hint for $CP$ violation, which is a key ingredient o…
We propose a renormalizable theory with minimal particle content and symmetries, that successfully explains the number of Standard Model (SM) fermion families, the SM fermion mass hierarchy, the tiny values for the light active neutrino masses, the lepton and baryon asymmetry of the Universe, the dark matter relic density as well as the muon and electron anomalous magnetic moments. In the proposed model, the top quark and the exotic fermions do acquire tree-level masses whereas the SM charged fermions lighter than the top quark gain one-loop level masses. Besides that, the tiny masses for the …
Motivated by the growing evidence for the possible lepton flavour universality violation after the first results from Fermilab's muon $(g-2)$ measurement, we revisit one of the most widely studied anomaly free extensions of the standard model namely, gauged $L_μ-L_τ$ model, to find a common explanation for muon $(g-2)$ as well as baryon asymmetry of the universe via leptogenesis. The minimal setup allows TeV scale resonant leptogenesis satisfying light neutrino data while the existence of light $L_μ-L_τ$ gauge boson affects the scale of leptogenesis as the right handed neutrinos are charged un…
The measured values for the mixture angles in neutrino oscillations suggest the existence of a symmetry of interchange of flavor between muon and tau neutrinos. Using this symmetry we analyzed the minimal seesaw model for neutrino masses, where the Majorana mass was diagonalized, and it is demonstrated that the model supports at most 3 CP violation phases and 5 real masses at high energies. Nevertheless, at low energies, only 4 parameters of mass and one relative Majorana CP phase remain. Therefore using the experimental values of the masses square differences, the mixture angles and the hiera…
It is proposed that dark matter is the origin of neutrino mass, thereby linking inexorably two undisputed (and seemingly unrelated) pieces of evidence for physics beyond the Standard Model. Leptogenesis at the TeV scale may also be possible, as well as a measurable contribution to the muon anomalous magnetic moment.
We prove that taking correctly into account the lepton flavour dependence of the CP asymmetries and washout processes, it is possible to obtain successful thermal leptogenesis from the decays of the second right-handed neutrino. The asymmetries in the muon and tau-flavour channels are then not erased by the inverse decays of the lightest right-handed neutrino, N_1. In this way, we reopen the possibility of ``thermal leptogenesis'' in models with a strong hierarchy in the right-handed Majorana masses that is typically the case in models with up-quark--neutrino Yukawa unification.
In an $SU(3)_{c}\times SU(2)_{L}\times SU(2)_{R}\times U(1)_{B-L}$ left-right symmetric framework, we present a new leptogenesis scenario parametrized by Dirac neutrino mass matrix. Benefited from the parity symmetry motivated to solve the strong CP problem, the dimensionless couplings of the mirror fields are identified to those of the ordinary fields. In particular, the mirror Dirac neutrinos have a heavy mass matrix proportional to the light mass matrix of the ordinary Dirac neutrinos. Through the $SU(2)_R$ gauge interactions, the mirror neutrinos can decay to generate a lepton asymmetry in…
Thermal leptogenesis is an attractive mechanism for generating the baryon asymmetry of the Universe. However, in supersymmetric models, the parameter space is severely restricted by the gravitino bound on the reheat temperature $T_{RH}$. Using a parametrisation of the seesaw in terms of weak-scale inputs, the low-energy footprints of thermal leptogenesis are discussed.
We propose a predictive $Q_4$ flavored 2HDM model, where the scalar sector is enlarged by the inclusion of several gauge singlet scalars and the fermion sector by the inclusion of right handed Majorana neutrinos. In our model, the $Q_4$ family symmetry is supplemented by several auxiliary cyclic symmetries, whose spontaneous breaking produces the observed pattern of SM charged fermion masses and quark mixing angles. The light active neutrino masses are generated from an inverse seesaw mechanism at one loop level thanks to a remnant preserved $Z_2$ symmetry. Our model succesfully reproduces the…
We investigate the validity of using thermal masses in the kinematics of final states in the decay rate of heavy neutrinos in leptogenesis calculations. We find that using thermal masses this way is a reasonable approximation, but corrections arise through quantum statistical distribution functions and leptonic quasiparticles.
Thermal leptogenesis, that can be viewed as a consequence of the seesaw model, is a very natural mechanism to explain the matter anti-matter asymmetry of the Universe. Recently, lepton flavours have been included in the Boltzmann equations, modifying significantly the evaluation of the efficiency of leptogenesis to explain the observed baryon asymmetry.
It is well-known that leptogenesis in low energy scale is difficult in the conventional Type-I seesaw mechanism with hierarchical right-handed neutrino masses. We show that in a class of two Higgs doublet model, where one Higgs doublet generates masses of quarks and charged leptons whereas the other Higgs doublet with a tiny vacuum expectation value generates neutrino Dirac masses, large Yukawa couplings lead to a large enough CP asymmetry of the right-handed neutrino decay. Thermal leptogenesis suitably works at low energy scale as keeping no enhancement of lepton number violating wash out ef…
Thermal leptogenesis in the canonical seesaw model in supersymmetry suffers from the incompatibility of a generic lower bound on the mass scale of the lightest right-handed neutrino and the upper bound on the reheating temperature of the Universe after inflation. This is resolved by adding an extra singlet superfield, with a discrete $Z_2$ symmetry, to the NMSSM (Next to Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model). This generic mechanism is applicable to any supersymmetric model for lowering the scale of leptogenesis.
We study the thermal leptogenesis in a hybrid model, which combines the so called split fermion model and the bulk neutrino model defined in five dimensional spacetime. This model predicts the existence of a heavy neutrino pair nearly degenerate in mass, whose decays might generate a CP violation large enough for creating the baryon asymmetry of the universe through leptogenesis. We investigate numerically the constraints this sets on the parameters of the model such as the size of the compactified fifth dimension.
In the present work we discuss baryon asymmetry in the non-thermal leptogenesis scenario and gravitino cosmology for an unstable gravitino with inflaton decay. We take into account two production mechanisms for gravitino, namely thermal production and inflaton decay. We wish to show in plots the allowed parameter space so that the BBN constraint and the requirement for the right baryon asymmetry are satisfied at the same time. However our analysis shows that it is impossible to achieve both goals simultaneously.
We reconsidered leptogenesis scenario from right-handed (s)neutrino produced by the decay of inflaton. Besides the well-investigated case that the neutrino decays instantaneously after the production, leptogenesis is possible if neutrino decays after it dominates the universe. In the latter case, right-handed (s)neutrino can decay either while it is relativistic or after it becomes non-relativistic. Especially, the first case has not been discussed seriously in literatures. Resultant lepton asymmetry and constraints from the gravitino problem are studied in broad parameter region, including al…
In the present work we study non-thermal leptogenesis and baryon asymmetry in the universe in different neutrino mass models discussed recently. For each model we obtain a formula relating the reheating temperature after inflation to the inflaton mass. It is shown that all but four cases are excluded and that in the cases which survive the inflaton mass and the reheating temperature after inflation are bounded from below and from above.
In the present work we study both thermal and non-thermal leptogenesis in all neutrino mass models describing the presently available neutrino mass patterns. We consider the Majorana CP violating phases coming from right-handed Majorana mass matrices to estimate the baryon asymmetry of the universe, for different neutrino mass models namely degenerate, inverted hierarchical and normal hierarchical models, with tribimaximal mixings. Considering two possible diagonal forms of Dirac neutrino mass matrix as either charged lepton or up-quark mass matrix, the right-handed Majorana mass matrices are …
We consider a smooth hybrid inflation scenario based on a supersymmetric SU(2)_L x SU(2)_R x U(1)_B-L model. The Higgs triplets involved in the model play a key role in inflation as well as in explaining the observed baryon asymmetry of the universe. We show that the baryon asymmetry can originate via non-thermal triplet leptogenesis from the decay of SU(2)_L triplets, whose tiny vacuum expectation values also provide masses for the light neutrinos.
We consider an extended supersymmetric SO(10) seesaw model with only doublet Higgs scalars, in which neutrino masses are suppressed by the scale of D-parity violation. Leptogenesis can occur at the TeV scale through the decay of a singlet Sigma, thereby avoiding the gravitino crisis. Washout of the asymmetry can be effectively suppressed by the absence of direct couplings of Sigma to leptons.
Properties of neutrinos may be the origin of the matter-antimatter asymmetry of the universe. In the seesaw model for neutrino masses this leads to important constraints on the properties of light and heavy neutrinos. In particular, an upper bound on the light neutrino masses of 0.1 eV can be derived. We review the present status of thermal leptogenesis with emphasis on the theoretical uncertainties and discuss some implications for lepton and quark mass hierarchies, CP violation and dark matter. We also comment on the `leptogenesis conspiracy', the remarkable fact that neutrino masses may lie…
We investigated thermal leptogenesis scenarios in the left-right symmetric extension of the standard model. In the SO(10) GUT framework, we impose the D-parity realization below GUT scale. These two conditions makes our model more restrictive and predictive. In such a case, a D-parity odd singlet in the 4-index antisymmetric tensor representation of SO(10) have a critical role. This singlet have prospects of causing a very large mass hierarchy between SU(2)L and SU(2)R triplet scalars. We test our model by computing baryogenesis via leptogenesis. The heavy right-handed neutrinos N's and the SU…
A one-flavour naturalness argument suggests that the Type I seesaw model cannot naturally explain neutrino masses and the baryon asymmetry of the Universe via hierarchical thermal leptogenesis. We prove that there is no way to avoid this conclusion in a minimal three-flavour setup. We then comment on the simplest ways out. In particular, we focus on a resolution utilising a second Higgs doublet. Such models predict an automatically SM-like Higgs boson, (maximally) TeV-scale scalar states, and low- to intermediate-scale hierarchical leptogenesis with $10^3\text{ GeV}\lesssim M_{N_1}\lesssim 10^…
The mechanism of thermal leptogenesis is investigated in the high-energy regime of braneworld cosmology. Within the simplest seesaw framework with hierarchical heavy Majorana neutrinos, we study the implications of the modified Friedmann equation on the realization of this mechanism. In contrast with the usual leptogenesis scenario of standard cosmology, where low-energy neutrino data favors a mildly strong washout regime, we find that leptogenesis in the braneworld regime is successfully realized in a weak washout regime. Furthermore, a quasi-degenerate light neutrino mass spectrum is found t…
We study the thermal leptogenesis in the scenario where the standard model is extended to include one $SU(2)_{L}$ triplet Higgs boson, in addition to three generations of the right-handed neutrinos. And in the model we introduce the coupling between the Quintessence and the right-handed neutrinos, the triplet Higgs boson, so that the light neutrino masses vary during the evolution of the universe. Assuming that the lepton number asymmetry is generated by the decays of the lightest right-handed neutrino $N_{1}$, we find the thermal leptogenesis can be characterized by four model independent par…

We review recent developments in leptogenesis on flavor effects. Their account discloses an important connection between the matter-antimatter asymmetry of the Universe and CP violation at low energies. Besides, they modify the upper bound on the neutrino masses holding in the unflavored case. In this respect, it is important to identify the exact condition for flavor effects to be relevant and for the `fully flavored' Boltzmann equations to be valid.
Thermal leptogenesis, in the seesaw model, is a popular mechanism for generating the Baryon Asymmetry of the Universe. It was noticed recently, that including lepton flavour can modify significantly the results. These proceedings aim to discuss why and when flavour matters, in the thermal leptogenesis scenario for hierarchical right-handed neutrinos. No Boltzmann Equations are introduced.
In this paper, we revisit the gravitino dark matter scenario in the presence of the bilinear $R$-parity violating interaction. In particular, we discuss a consistency with the thermal leptogenesis. For a high reheating temperature required for the thermal leptogenesis, the gravitino dark matter tends to be overproduced, which puts a severe upper limit on the gluino mass. As we will show, a large portion of parameter space of the gravitino dark matter scenario has been excluded by combining the constraints from the gravitino abundance and the null results of the searches for the superparticles …
We analyse non-thermal leptogenesis after models of Majoron hilltop inflation, where the scalar field that provides masses for the right-handed neutrinos and sneutrinos via its vacuum expectation value acts as the inflaton. We discuss different realisations of Majoron inflation models with different hilltop shapes and couplings to the right-handed (s)neutrinos. To study the non-thermally produced baryon asymmetry in these models, we numerically solve the relevant Boltzmann equations. In contrast to previous studies, we include the effects from resonant sneutrino particle production during preh…
Affleck-Dine leptogenesis after thermal inflation along the $LH_u$ direction requires $m_L^2+m_{H_u}^2 < 0$ up to the AD scale ($|L|\simeq |H_u|\sim 10^9$ GeV). We renormalised this condition from the AD scale to the soft supersymmetry breaking scale by solving the renormalisation group equations perturbatively in the Yukawa couplings to obtain a semi-analytic constraint on the soft supersymmetry breaking parameters. We also used a fully numerical method to renormalise the baryogenesis condition and constrained the Minimal Supersymmetric Cosmological Model using the resulting baryogenesis cond…
Assuming the Dirac-type neutrino masses m_D are related to quark or charged lepton masses, neutrino oscillation data indicate that right handed neutrino masses are in general strongly hierarchical. In particular, if m_D is similar to the up-type quark masses, the mass of the lightest right handed neutrino M_1<~10^6 GeV. We show that non-thermal leptogenesis by inflaton decay can yield sufficient baryon asymmetry despite this constraint, and discuss how the asymmetry is correlated with the low energy neutrino masses and CP-violating phases.
We make a simple observation that if one of the right-chiral neutrinos is very heavy or its Yukawa couplings to the standard lepton doublets are negligible, so that it effectively decouples from the see-saw mechanism, the prediction for the baryon asymmetry of the Universe resulting from leptogenesis depends, apart from the masses $M_1$ and $M_2$ of the remaining two right-chiral neutrinos, only on the element $\YY{22}$ of the neutrino Yukawa coupling. For $M_2\simgt10M_1$ the lower bound on $M_1$ and also on $T_{\rm reh}$, resulting from the requirement of 'successful leptogenesis' is then si…
We show that a mini-thermal inflation occurs naturally in a class of gauge mediation models of supersymmetry (SUSY) breaking, provided that the reheating temperature T_R of the primary inflation is much higher than the SUSY-breaking scale, say T_R > 10^{10} GeV. The reheating process of the thermal inflation produces an amount of entropy, which dilutes the number density of relic gravitinos. This dilution renders the gravitino to be the dark matter in the present universe. The abundance of the gravitinos is independent of the reheating temperature T_R, once the gravtinos are thermally produced…
In this thesis, we study the role of flavours in leptogenesis. In a first time, we review the so-called one flavour picture, where only the lightest right-handed neutrino is taken into account, and where lepton flavours are neglected. After having showed why and how lepton flavours should be included in the computation of the lepton asymmetry, we study their effect in the type I seesaw model, as well as in the type I+II seesaw model, in a specific SO(10) unification realisation. In this model, besides flavours effects, we show that the inclusion of the second lightest right-handed neutrino, to…
It is known that the radiative neutrino mass model proposed by Ma could be a consistent framework for dark matter, leptogenesis and suppressed lepton flavor violation if a neutral component of the inert doublet is identified as dark matter and the right-handed neutrinos are of O(10^7) GeV or more. In the same model we explore another scenario such that right-handed neutrinos are in TeV regions and their lightest one is dark matter. It is shown that this scenario requires fine mass degeneracy to generate the appropriate baryon number asymmetry as in the case of resonant leptogenesis. As long as…
Our present work explores the possibility of neutrino mass generation through {\em Type-I see-saw} mechanism and provides an explanation of the baryon asymmetry of the Universe via thermal leptogenesis in the framework of $Z_3$-symmetric three Higgs doublet model (3HDM) augmented with three right-handed neutrinos. Here the thermal leptogenesis is initiated by the out-of-equilibrium decay of the lightest heavy neutrino $N_1$. The constraints arising out of the scalar sector put strong bound on the model parameter $\tan β$, which in turn takes part in the computation of the lepton asymmetry $ε$.…
Leptogenesis is an attractive scenario in which neutrino masses and baryon asymmetry of the Universe are explained together under a minimal set of assumptions. After formulating the problem of initial conditions and introducing the strong thermal leptogenesis conditions as solution, we show that, within the framework provided by the \soten~model of leptogenesis, the latter lead to a set of testable predictions on the same neutrino parameters currently under experimental investigations. The emerging scenario selects the normal ordering of the neutrino mass pattern, a large value for the reactor…
Thermal leptogenesis is an attractive mechanism for generating the baryon asymmetry of the Universe. However, in supersymmetric models, the parameter space is severely restricted by the gravitino bound on the reheat temperature $T_{RH}$. For hierarchical light neutrino masses, it is shown that thermal leptogenesis {\it can} work when $T_{RH} \sim 10^{9} $ GeV. The low-energy observable consequences of this scenario are $ BR(τ\to \ell γ) \sim 10^{-8} - 10^{-9} $. For higher $T_{RH}$, thermal leptogenesis works in a larger area of parameter space, whose observable consequences are more ambiguous…
We study the evolution of a cosmological baryon asymmetry in leptogenesis when the right-handed neutrinos are produced in inflaton decays. By performing a detailed numerical study over a broad range of inflaton-neutrino couplings we show that the resulting asymmetry can be larger by two orders of magnitude or more than in thermal leptogenesis, if the reheating temperature T_{RH} is of the same order as the right-handed neutrino mass M_1. Hence, the lower limit on the baryogenesis temperature obtained in thermal leptogenesis can be relaxed accordingly.
Leptogenesis is at the heart of particle cosmology which requires physics beyond the Standard Model. There are two possibilities of realizing leptogenesis; thermal and non-thermal. Both are viable given the scale of inflation and the constraint on the reheat temperature. However non-thermal leptogenesis can leave its imprint upon cosmic micro wave background radiation. In this paper we will discuss cosmological constraints on non-thermal leptogenesis scenarios within supersymmetry.
In this work, a diagrammatic representation of thermal mass effects is derived from the $S$-matrix unitarity both in the classical and quantum Boltzmann equations. Within the example of the seesaw type-I leptogenesis, we discuss the connection of the Higgs thermal mass and the cancelations of infrared divergences in zero- and finite-temperature calculations of the right-handed neutrino decay and scattering processes.
We revisit the possibility of producing the observed baryon asymmetry of the Universe via thermal leptogenesis, where $CP$ violation comes exclusively from the low-energy phases of the neutrino mixing matrix. We demonstrate the viability of thermal flavoured leptogenesis across seven orders of magnitude $\left(10^{6}<T \text{ (GeV)}< 10^{13}\right)$, using modern numerical machinery, where the lower bound can be reached only if flavour effects are taken into account and its value depends on the allowed degree of cancellation between the tree-level and radiative contributions to the light neutr…
Motivated by the fact that the Dirac phase in the PMNS matrix is the only CP-violating parameter in the leptonic sector that can be measured in neutrino oscillation experiments, we examine the possibility that it is the dominant source of CP violation for leptogenesis caused by the out-of-equilibrium decays of heavy singlet fermions. We do so within a low-scale extended type-I seesaw model, featuring two Standard Model singlet fermions per family, in which lepton number is approximately conserved such that the heavy singlet neutrinos are pseudo-Dirac. We find that this produces a predictive mo…
Leptogenesis can successfully explain the matter-antimatter asymmetry via out-of-equilibrium decays of heavy Majorana neutrinos in the early Universe. In this article, we focus on non-resonant thermal leptogenesis and the possibility of lowering its scale. In order to do so, we calculate the lepton asymmetry produced from the decays of one and two heavy Majorana neutrinos using three-flavoured density matrix equations in an exhaustive exploration of the model parameter space. We find regions of the parameter space where thermal leptogenesis is viable at intermediate scales, $T\sim 10^{6}$ GeV.…
We study a leptogenesis scenario in which the heavy Majorana neutrinos are produced non-thermally in inflaton decays in the supersymmetric economical SU(3)_C X SU(3)_L X U(1)_X model with inflationary scenario, and for this purpose neutrino masses play the key role. Due to the inflaton with mass in the GUT scale, the model under consideration provides successful neutrino masses, which is different from ones without inflationary scenario. The lepton-number-violating interactions among the inflaton and right-handed neutrinos appear at the one-loop level, and this is a reason for non-thermal lept…
Leptogenesis appears to be a viable alternative to account for the baryon asymmetry of the universe through baryogenesis. In this context, we consider a scenario in which the standard model is extended with $S_3$ and $Z_2$ symmetry in addition to the two scalar triplets, two scalar doublets and three right handed neutrinos. Presence of scalar triplets and right-handed neutrinos in the scenarios of both type-I and type-II seesaw framework provide a different leptogenesis option and can help us to understand the matter-antimatter asymmetry with simple $S_3$ symmetry. We discuss the neutrino phen…
In a minimal model of leptogenesis, the observed baryon asymmetry is realized after high-scale reheating into the lightest sterile neutrino. We consider constraints on this scenario from the stability of the Higgs vacuum during pre-heating. Depending on the reheat temperature, the lightest sterile neutrino may be in or out of thermal equilibrium at production. Demanding stability of the Higgs vacuum during pre-heating, we find strong constraints which primarily impact the parameter space of thermal leptogenesis.
We briefly review the main aspects of leptogenesis, describing both the unflavoured and the flavoured versions of the $N_2$-dominated scenario. A study of the success rates of both classes of models has been carried out. We comment on these results and discuss corrective effects to this simplest scenario. Focusing on the flavoured case, we consider the conditions required by strong thermal leptogenesis, where the final asymmetry is fully independent of the initial conditions. Barring strong cancellations in the seesaw formula and in the flavoured decay parameters, we show that strong thermal l…
We calculate the decay rate of a Yukawa fermion in a thermal bath using finite temperature cutting rules and effective Green's functions according to the hard thermal loop resummation technique. We apply this result to the decay of a heavy Majorana neutrino in leptogenesis. Compared to the usual approach where thermal masses are inserted into the kinematics of final states, we find that deviations arise through two different leptonic dispersion relations. The decay rate differs from the usual approach by more than one order of magnitude in the temperature range which is interesting for the wea…
