Defining gravitational subsystems has long been challenging due to the lack of the conventional notion of locality in gravity. In this work, we define gravitational subsystems from the observable spacetime subregions of a set of well-defined accelerating observers. We study the most general horizons of accelerating observers and find that in a general spacetime, only spacelike surfaces satisfying a global condition could become horizons of well-defined accelerating observers, which we name the Rindler-convexity condition. The entanglement entropy associated with a Rindler-convex region is proportional to the area of the enclosing surface. The subregions defined from this observer perspective is named the generalized Rindler wedge. This provides a physical origin for defining gravitational subsystems associated with one type of Type III von Neumann subalgebra. We propose the holographic interpretation of generalized Rindler wedges and provide evidence from the observer correspondence, the subregion subalgebra duality, and the equality of the entanglement entropy, respectively. We introduce time/space cutoffs in the bulk to substantiate this proposition, generalize it, and establish a holographic observer concordance framework, which asserts that the partitioning of degrees of freedom through observation is holographically concordant.
A problem related to some Green functions found by Guimarães and Linet in the manifold of a straight cosmic string continued in the Rindler space is investigated.
We consider interacting massive scalar quantum field theory in the future Rindler wedge. This is a model example of quantum field theory in curved space--time. On this simple example we show how dynamics of correlation functions depends on the choice of initial Cauchy surface, basis of modes and on the choice of initial state build with the use of the corresponding creation and annihilation operators. We show which choice of modes in the future Rindler wedge respects Poincare symmetry. But we do not restrict our attention only to these modes and the corresponding state.
We investigate the relation between the time-ordered vacuum correlation functions for interacting real scalar fields in Minkowski spacetime and in the Rindler wedge. The correlation functions are constructed perturbatively within the in-in formalism, often employed in calculations in more general spacetimes. We prove to all orders in perturbation theory that the time-ordered vacuum correlation functions can be calculated in the in-in formalism with internal vertices restricted to any Rindler wedge containing the external points. This implies that the Minkowski in-in (or in-out) perturbative ex…
The Wightman functions in the Rindler portion of Minkowski space-time are presented for any value of the temperature and for massless spin fields up to s=1 and the renormalized stress tensor relative to Minkowski vacuum is discussed. A gauge ambiguity in the vector case is pointed out.
Photons and thermal photons are studied in the Rindler Wedge employing Feynman's gauge and canonical quantization. A Gupta-Bleuler-like formalism is explicitly implemented. Non thermal Wightman functions and related (Euclidean and Lorentzian) Green functions are explicitly calculated and their complex time analytic structure is analyzed using the Fulling-Ruijsenaars master function. The invariance of the advanced minus retarded fundamental solution is checked and a Ward identity discussed. It is suggested the KMS condition can be implemented to define thermal states also dealing with unphysica…
We derive the solutions of gravitational waves in the future (F) expanding and the past (P) shrinking Kanser spacetimes as well as in the left (L) and right (R) Rindler wedges in the Regge-Wheeler gauge. The solutions for all metric components are obtained in an analytic form in each region. We identify the master variables, which are equivalent to massless scalar fields, to describe the gravitational degrees of freedom for the odd parity and even parity modes under the transformation in the two-dimensional plane symmetric space. Then, the master variables are quantized, and we develop the qua…
The thermal partition function of photons in any covariant gauge and gravitons in the harmonic gauge, propagating in a Rindler wedge, are computed using a local $ζ$-function regularization approach. The correct Planckian leading order temperature dependence $T^4$ is obtained in both cases. For the photons, the existence of a surface term giving a negative contribution to the entropy is confirmed, as earlier obtained by Kabat, but this term is shown to be gauge dependent in the four-dimensional case and, therefore is discarded. It is argued that similar terms could appear dealing with any integ…
One of the striking features of QED is that charged particles create a coherent cloud of photons. The resultant coherent state vectors of photons generate a non-trivial representation of the localized algebra of observables that do not support a representation of the Lorentz group: Lorentz symmetry is spontaneously broken. We show in particular that Lorentz boost generators diverge in this representation, a result shown also in [1] (See also [2]). Localization of observables, for example in the Rindler wedge, uses Poincaré invariance in an essential way [3]. Hence in the presence of charged fi…
In this note, we explain how asymptotically globally AdS spacetimes can be given an alternate dual description as entangled states of a pair of hyperbolic space CFTs, which are associated with complementary Rindler wedges of the AdS geometry. The reduced density matrix encoding the state of the degrees of freedom in one of these CFTs describes the physics in a single wedge, which we can think of as the region of spacetime accessible to an accelerated observer in AdS. For pure AdS, this density matrix is thermal, and we argue that the microstates in this thermal ensemble correspond to spacetime…
In this paper, we study the AdS-Rindler reconstruction. The CFT operators naively given by the holographic dictionary for the AdS-Rindler reconstruction contain tachyonic modes, which are inconsistent with the causality and unitarity of the CFT. Therefore, the subregion duality and the entanglement wedge reconstruction do not hold. We also find that the tachyonic modes in the AdS-Rindler patch lead to arbitrary high-energy or trans-Planckian modes in the global AdS. It means that the mode expansion of the Rindler patch is sensitive to the UV limit of the theory, that is, quantum gravity. In ad…
The thermal Euclidean Green functions for Photons propagating in the Rindler wedge are computed employing an Euclidean approach within any covariant Feynman-like gauge. This is done by generalizing a formula which holds in the Minkowskian case. The coincidence of the found $(\be=2π)$-Green functions and the corresponding Minkowskian vacuum Green functions is discussed in relation to the remaining static gauge ambiguity already found in previous papers. Further generalizations to more complicated manifolds are discussed. Ward identities are verified in the general case.
Different AdS-Rindler wedges can be mapped to each other using bulk isometries. In this paper we address how the boundary representations corresponding to the AdS-Rindler wedges transform under such isometries. We show that when a bulk wedge is mapped to another using a bulk isometry, their boundary representations are mapped by the conformal transformation corresponding to the isometry. We comment on the import of this result on the relation between AdS/CFT and quantum error correction.
The worldline of a uniformly accelerated localized observer in Minkowski space is restricted in the Rindler wedge, where the observer can in principle arrange experiments repeatedly, and the Cauchy problem for quantum fields in that Rindler wedge can be well defined. However, the observer can still receive the signals sourced by the events behind the past horizon, and coordinatize those events in terms of some kind of observational coordinates. We construct such observational coordinates in some simple cases with the localized observers in Minkowski, de Sitter, and Schwarzschild-like spacetime…
We have analyzed the Unruh problem in the frame of quantum field theory and have shown that the Unruh quantization scheme is valid in the double Rindler wedge rather than in Minkowski spacetime. The double Rindler wedge is composed of two disjoint regions ($R$- and $L$-wedges of Minkowski spacetime) which are causally separated from each other. Moreover the Unruh construction implies existence of boundary condition at the common edge of $R$- and $L$-wedges in Minkowski spacetime. Such boundary condition may be interpreted as a topological obstacle which gives rise to a superselection rule proh…
Quantum entanglement of the Minkowski vacuum state between left and right Rindler wedges generates thermal behavior in the right Rindler wedge, which is known as the Unruh effect. In this letter, we show that there is another consequence of this entanglement, namely entanglement-induced quantum radiation emanating from a uniformly accelerated object. We clarify why it is in agreement with our intuition that incoming and outgoing energy fluxes should cancel each other out in a thermalized state.
In the holographic correspondence, subregion duality posits that knowledge of the mixed state of a finite spacelike region of the boundary theory allows full reconstruction of a specific region of the bulk, known as the entanglement wedge. This statement has been proven for local bulk operators. In this paper, specializing first for simplicity to a Rindler wedge of AdS$_3$, we find that generic curves within the wedge are in fact not fully reconstructible with entanglement entropies in the corresponding boundary region, even after using the most general variant of hole-ography, which was recen…

We study higher-dimensional traversable wormholes in the context of Rindler-AdS/CFT. The hyperbolic slicing of a pure AdS geometry can be thought of as a topological black hole that is dual to a conformal field theory in the hyperbolic space. The maximally extended geometry contains two exterior regions (the Rindler wedges of AdS) which are connected by a wormhole. We show that this wormhole can be made traversable by a double trace deformation that violates the average null energy condition (ANEC) in the bulk. We find an analytic formula for the ANEC violation that generalizes Gao-Jafferis-Wa…
