We study higher-dimensional traversable wormholes in the context of Rindler-AdS/CFT. The hyperbolic slicing of a pure AdS geometry can be thought of as a topological black hole that is dual to a conformal field theory in the hyperbolic space. The maximally extended geometry contains two exterior regions (the Rindler wedges of AdS) which are connected by a wormhole. We show that this wormhole can be made traversable by a double trace deformation that violates the average null energy condition (ANEC) in the bulk. We find an analytic formula for the ANEC violation that generalizes Gao-Jafferis-Wall result to higher-dimensional cases, and we show that the same result can be obtained using the eikonal approximation. We show that the bound on the amount of information that can be transferred through the wormhole quickly reduces as we increase the dimensionality of spacetime. We also compute a two-sided commutator that diagnoses traversability and show that, under certain conditions, the information that is transferred through the wormhole propagates with butterfly speed $v_B = \frac{1}{d-1}$.
We propose a simplified protocol of quantum energy teleportation (QET) for holographic conformal field theory (CFT) in 3-dimensional anti-de Sitter space with or without black hole. As a tentative proposal, we simplify the standard QET by replacing Alice's local measurement with the local projection, which excites the system from ground state into a particular state dual to a Banados geometry. We then mimic Bob's local operation of the usual QET for extracting energy by deforming the UV surface with a local bump. Adopting the surface/state duality this deformation corresponds to local unitary.…
According to holography, entanglement is the building block of spacetime; therefore, drastic changes of entanglement will lead to interesting transitions in the dual spacetime. In this paper, we study the effect of projective measurements on the Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev (SYK) model's thermofield double state, dual to an eternal black hole in Jackiw-Teitelboim (JT) gravity. We calculate the (Renyi-2) mutual information between the two copies of the SYK model upon projective measurement of a subset of fermions in one copy. We propose a dual JT gravity model that can account for the change of entangleme…

Holography has taught us that spacetime is emergent and its properties depend on the entanglement structure of the dual theory. In this paper, we describe how changes in the entanglement due to a local projective measurement (LPM) on a subregion $A$ of the boundary theory modify the bulk dual spacetime. We find that LPMs destroy portions of the bulk geometry, yielding post-measurement bulk spacetimes dual to the complementary unmeasured region $A^c$ that are cut off by end-of-the-world branes. Using a bulk calculation in $AdS_3$ and tensor network models of holography, we show that the portion…
In a previous paper we introduced holographic software for quantum networks, inspired by work on planar para algebras. This software suggests the definition of a compressed transformation. Here we utilize the software to find a CT protocol to teleport compressed transformations. This protocol serves multiple parties with multiple persons.
By leveraging shared entanglement between a pair of qubits, one can teleport a quantum state from one particle to another. Recent advances have uncovered an intrinsically many-body generalization of quantum teleportation, with an elegant and surprising connection to gravity. In particular, the teleportation of quantum information relies on many-body dynamics, which originate from strongly-interacting systems that are holographically dual to gravity; from the gravitational perspective, such quantum teleportation can be understood as the transmission of information through a traversable wormhole…
Teleportation of finite dimensional quantum states by a non-local entangled state is studied. For a generally given entangled state, an explicit equation that governs the teleportation is presented. Detailed examples and the roles played by the dimensions of the Hilbert spaces related to the sender, receiver and the auxiliary space are discussed.

We study the properties of quantum entanglement and teleportation in the background of stationary and rotating curved space-times with extra dimensions. We show that a maximally entangled Bell state in an inertial frame becomes less entangled in curved space due to the well-known Hawking-Unruh effect. The degree of entanglement is found to be degraded with increasing the extra dimensions. For a finite black hole surface gravity, the observer may choose higher frequency mode to keep high level entanglement. The fidelity of quantum teleporation is also reduced because of the Hawking-Unruh effect…
We construct a set of quasi-local measurement operators in 2D CFT, and then use them to proceed the quantum energy teleportation (QET) protocol and show it is viable. These measurement operators are constructed out of the projectors constructed from shadow operators, but further acting on the product of two spatially separated primary fields. They are equivalently the OPE blocks in the large central charge limit up to some UV-cutoff dependent normalization but the associated probabilities of outcomes are UV-cutoff independent. We then adopt these quantum measurement operators to show that the …
We define a "holographic limit" of Lancsoz-Lovelock theories at the Lagrangian level which gives three-dimensional modified gravity theories. We also show that this limit applies to more general classes of theories in higher dimensions provided that they admit the holographic c-theorem.
After turning on an interaction that couples the two boundaries of an eternal BTZ black hole, we find a quantum matter stress tensor with negative average null energy, whose gravitational backreaction renders the Einstein-Rosen bridge traversable. Such a traversable wormhole has an interesting interpretation in the context of ER=EPR, which we suggest might be related to quantum teleportation. However, it cannot be used to violate causality. We also discuss the implications for the energy and holographic entropy in the dual CFT description.
Holographic superconductor is an important arena for holography, as it allows concrete calculations to further understand the dictionary between bulk physics and boundary physics. An important quantity of recent interest is the holographic complexity. Conflicting claims had been made in the literature concerning the behavior of holographic complexity during phase transition. We clarify this issue by performing a numerical study on one-dimensional holographic superconductor. Our investigation shows that holographic complexity does not behave in the same way as holographic entanglement entropy. …
We calculate the holographic entanglement entropy for the rotating cylindrical black holes in $d+1$ dimensions as perturbations over $AdS_{d+1}$. This is accomplished based on the first order variation of the area functional in arbitrary dimensions. For these types of black holes, the angular momentum appears at the first order of the perturbative expansion of the holographic entanglement entropy for spacetime dimensions of d +1 $\geq$ 4. We obtain a form of holographic entanglement first law in the presence of both energy and angular momentum.
We propose a way to obtain holographic cosmology models for 3+1 dimensional cosmologies vs. 3 dimensional field theories from a "dimensional reduction" procedure, obtained by integrating over the time direction, of (modifed) standard holographic duals of 3+1 dimensional field theories. The example of a modified ${\cal N}=4$ SYM vs. $AdS_5\times S^5$ is presented, and in perturbation theory doesn't match observations, though at strong coupling it might. But the proposed mechanism is more general, and it could in principle be applied to other top down holographic models.
In this paper, we have investigated the entanglement thermodynamics for $d$-dimensional charged $AdS$ black hole by studying the holographic entanglement entropy in different cases. We have first computed the holographic entanglement entropy in extremal and non-extremal cases in two different regimes, namely, the low temperature and high temperature limits. We then obtain the first law of entanglement thermodynamics for boundary field theory in the low temperature regime in $d$-dimensions.
Holographic tensor networks associated to tilings of (1+1)-dimensional de Sitter spacetime are introduced. Basic features of these networks are discussed, compared, and contrasted with conjectured properties of quantum gravity in de Sitter spacetime. Notably, we highlight a correspondence between the quantum information capacity of the network and the cosmological constant.
We propose a covariant prescription to compute holographic entanglement entropy and Poincare blocks (Global BMS blocks) in the context of three-dimensional Einstein gravity in flat space. We first present a prescription based on worldline methods in the probe limit, inspired by recent analog calculations in AdS/CFT. Building on this construction, we propose a full extrapolate dictionary and use it to compute holographic correlators and blocks away from the probe limit.
F. Scardigli and R. Casadio have considered uncertainty principles which take into account the role of gravity and possible existence of extra spatial dimensions. They have argued that the predicted number of degrees of freedom enclosed in a given spatial volume matches the holographic counting only for one of the available generalization and without extra dimensions. Taking into account the additional inevitable source of uncertainty in distance measurement, which is missed in their approach, we show that the holographic properties of the proposed uncertainty principle is recovered in the mod…
In the article we present explicit expressions for quantum fluctuations of spacetime in the case of $(4+n)$-dimensional spacetimes, and consider their holographic properties and some implications for clocks, black holes and computation. We also consider quantum fluctuations and their holographic properties in ADD model and estimate the typical size and mass of the clock to be used in precise measurements of spacetime fluctuations. Numerical estimations of phase incoherence of light from extra-galactic sources in ADD model are also presented.
We follow the spirit of a recent proposal to show that previous computations for asymptotically flat spacetimes in four dimensions at null infinity can be re-interpreted in terms of a well-defined holographic current algebra for the time component of the currents. The analysis is completed by the current algebra for the spatial components.
The holographic bound, $S<=A/4{\ell^2_P}$, asserts that the entropy $S$ of a system is bounded from above by a quarter of the area $A$ of a circumscribing surface measured in Planck areas. This bound is widely regarded as part of the elusive fundamental theory of nature. In fact, the bound is known to be valid for generic weakly gravitating isolated systems in {\it three} spatial dimensions. Nevertheless, the entropy content of a physical system is expected to be an increasing function of the number of spatial dimensions (the more the dimensions, the more ways there are to split up a given amo…
We study an analog hydrodynamic model that mimics a 3+1 AdS planar BH spacetime dual to a 2+1-dimensional superconductor. We demonstrate that the AdS$_4$ bulk and its holographic dual could be realized in nature in an analog gravity model based on fluid dynamics. In particular we mimic the metric of an $O_2$ holographic superconductor and calculate the entanglement entropy of a conveniently designed subsystem at the boundary of the analog AdS$_4$ bulk.
In arXiv:1101.3326[hep-th], a (2+1)-dimensional holographic Josephson junction was constructed, and it was shown that the DC Josephson current is proportional to the sine of the phase difference across the junction. In this paper, we extend this study to a holographic description for the (3+1)-dimensional holographic DC Josephson junction. By solving numerically the coupled differential equations, we also obtain the familiar characteristics of Josephson junctions.
We reply to the comments by P.Midodashvili about our previous paper [1]. We argue that, contrary to the conclusions in Refs. [2,3], the Generalized Uncertainty Principle proposed by Ng and van Dam in Ref. [4] is compatible with the Holographic Principle in spacetimes with extra dimensions only for a very special (and somehow unrealistic) choice of the relation between the size and mass of the clock.
We consider relativistic hydrodynamics in the limit where the number of spatial dimensions is very large. We show that under certain restrictions, the resulting equations of motion simplify significantly. Holographic theories in a large number of dimensions satisfy the aforementioned restrictions and their dynamics are captured by hydrodynamics with a naturally truncated derivative expansion. Using analytic and numerical techniques we analyze two and three-dimensional turbulent flow of such fluids in various regimes and its relation to geometric data.
We look into the $AdS$ black holes from two-dimensional gravity perspective. In this work, we extend the previous results of holographic renormalization group flows to dimensions two. By introducing a superpotential, we derive the flow equations in two-dimensional dilaton gravity. We find a quantity which monotonically decreases along flows and give some comments on holographic $c$-theorem. As examples, we show that recently studied supersymmetric $AdS$ black hole solutions generically dimensionally reduce to two-dimensional dilaton gravity, and obtain the flow equations for black hole solutio…
We studied entanglement entropy for a time dependent two dimensional holographic superconductor. We showed that the conserved charge of the system plays the role of the critical parameter to have condensation.
In holographic duality, if a boundary state has a geometric description that realizes the Ryu-Takayanagi proposal then its entanglement entropies must obey certain inequalities that together define the so-called holographic entropy cone. A large family of such inequalities have been proven under the assumption that the bulk geometry is static, using a method involving contraction maps. By using kinematic space techniques, we show that in two boundary (three bulk) dimensions, all entropy inequalities that can be proven in the static case by contraction maps must also hold in holographic states …
Holographic renormalization group flows can be interpreted in terms of effective field theory. Based on such an interpretation, a formula for the running scaling dimensions of gauge-invariant operators along such flows is proposed. The formula is checked for some simple examples from the AdS/CFT correspondence, but can be applied also in non-AdS/non-CFT cases.
We compute the supersymmetric Renyi entropy across an entangling three-sphere for five-dimensional superconformal field theories using localization. For a class of USp(2N) gauge theories we construct a holographic dual 1/2 BPS black hole solution of Euclidean Romans F(4) supergravity. The large N limit of the gauge theory results agree perfectly with the supergravity computations.
We extend the holographic construction from AdS3 to higher dimensions. In particular, we show that the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy of codimension-two surfaces in the bulk with planar symmetry can be evaluated in terms of the 'differential entropy' in the boundary theory. The differential entropy is a certain quantity constructed from the entanglement entropies associated with a family of regions covering a Cauchy surface in the boundary geometry. We demonstrate that a similar construction based on causal holographic information fails in higher dimensions, as it typically yields divergent result…
Various two-dimensional O(N) models coupled to Euclidean quantum gravity, whose intrinsic dimension is four, are shown to belong to universality classes of nongravitating statistical models in a lower number of dimensions. It is speculated that the matching critical behaviors in the gravitating and dimensionally reduced models may be manifestations of the holographic principle.
In this work, we present a holographic renormalization scheme for asymptotically anti-de Sitter spacetimes in which the dual renormalization scheme of the boundary field theory is dimensional regularization. This constitutes a new level of precision in the holographic dictionary and paves the way for the exact matching of scheme dependent quantities, such as holographic beta functions, with field theory computations. Furthermore, the renormalization procedure identifies a local source field which satisfies the equations of motion along renormalization group flows, resolving a long-standing puz…
We study the one dimensional s-wave holographic superconductor by turning on the vector potential $A_x$ in the bulk, which behaves as $A_x=A_x^{(0)} \ln z+ A_x^{(1)}$ on the boundary. By solving the model with fixed $A_x^{(0)}$, we find that if we identify the $A_x^{(0)}$ with the supercurrent $j_x$ of the holographic superconductor, the results agree with the Gindzburg- Landau theory. For example, $A_x^{(0)}$ will break the superconductivity, and the critical value of $A_x^{(0)}$ is proportional to $(T_c-T)^{3/2}$.
Recently, investigations have begun into a holographic duality for two-dimensional de Sitter space. In this paper, we evaluate the associated central charge, using a modified version of the canonical Hamiltonian method that was first advocated by Catelani {\it et al}. Our computation agrees with that of a prior work (Cadoni {\it et al}), but we argue that the method used here is, perhaps, aesthetically preferable on holographic grounds. We also confirm an agreement between the Cardy and thermodynamic entropy, thus providing further support for the conjectured two-dimensional de Sitter/conforma…
We study higher derivative corrections in holographic dual of Zamolodchikov-Polchinski theorem that states the equivalence between scale invariance and conformal invariance in unitary d-dimensional Poincare invariant field theories. From the dual holographic perspective, we find that a sufficient condition to show the holographic theorem is the generalized strict null energy condition of the matter sector in effective (d+1)-dimensional gravitational theory. The same condition has appeared in the holographic dual of the "c-theorem" and our theorem suggests a deep connection between the two, whi…
The strong coupling dynamics of a 2+1 dimensional U(1) gauge theory coupled to charged matter is holographically modeled via a top-down construction with intersecting D3- and D5-branes. We explore the resulting phase diagram at finite temperature and charge density using correlation functions of monopole operators, dual to magnetically charged particles in the higher-dimensional bulk theory, as a diagnostic.
We investigate symmetry breaking in two-dimensional field theories which have a holographic gravity dual. Being at large N, the Coleman theorem does not hold and Goldstone bosons are expected. We consider the minimal setup to describe a conserved current and a charged operator, and we perform holographic renormalization in order to find the correct Ward identities describing symmetry breaking. This involves some subtleties related to the different boundary conditions that a vector can have in the three-dimensional bulk. We establish which is the correct prescription that yields, after renormal…
The holographic Weyl anomaly associated to Chern-Simons gravity in 2n+1 dimensions is proportional to the Euler term in 2n dimensions, with no contributions from the Weyl tensor. We compute the holographic energy-momentum tensor associated to Chern-Simons gravity directly from the action, in an arbitrary odd-dimensional spacetime. We show, in particular, that the counterterms rendering the action finite contain only terms of the Lovelock type.
We propose that general D-dimensional quantum field theories are dual to (D+1)-dimensional local quantum theories which in general include objects with spin two or higher. Using a general prescription, we construct a (D+1)-dimensional theory which is holographically dual to the D-dimensional O(N) vector model. From the holographic theory, the phase transition and critical properties of the model in dimensions D>2 are described.
Within the bottom-up holographic approach to QCD, the highly excited hadrons are identified with the bulk normal modes in the fifth "holographic" dimension. We show that additional states in the same mass range can appear also from taking into consideration the 5D fields dual to higher dimensional QCD operators. The possible effects of these operators were not taken into account in almost all phenomenological applications. Using the scalar case as the simplest example, we demonstrate that the additional higher dimensional operators lead to a large degeneracy of highly excited states in the Sof…
I review the holographic techniques used to efficiently study models with Gauge-Higgs Unification (GHU) in one extra dimension. The general features of GHU models in flat extra dimensions are then reviewed, emphasizing the aspects related to electroweak symmetry breaking. Two potentially realistic models, based on SU(3) and SO(5) electroweak gauge groups, respectively, are constructed.
We present a holographic realization of large Nc massless QCD in two dimensions using a D2/D8 brane construction. The flavor axial anomaly is dual to a three dimensional Chern-Simons term which turns out to be of leading order, and it affects the meson spectrum and holographic renormalization in crucial ways. The massless flavor bosons that exist in the spectrum are found to decouple from the heavier mesons, in agreement with the general lore of non-Abelian bosonization. We also show that an external dynamical photon acquires a mass through the three dimensional Chern-Simons term as expected f…
Holographic models of superconductors successfully reproduce certain experimental features of high-temperature superconductors, such as a large gap-to-T_c ratio compared to that of conventional superconductors. By deconstructing the extra dimension of these holographic models, similar phenomenology is described by a class of models defined in the natural dimension of the superconducting system. We analyze the sensitivity of certain observables in holographic and deconstructed holographic superconductors to details of the extra-dimensional spacetime. Our results support the notion that certain …
