For a nice-enough category $\mathcal{C}$, we construct both the morphism category ${\rm H}(\mathcal{C})$ of $\mathcal{C}$ and the category ${\rm mod}\mbox{-}\mathcal{C}$ of all finitely presented contravariant additive functors over $\mathcal{C}$ with values in Abelian groups. The main theme of this paper, is to translate some representation-theoretic attributes back and forth from one category to the other. This process is done by using an appropriate functor between these two categories, an approach which seems quite promising in particular when we show that many of almost split sequences are preserved by this functor. We apply our results to the case of wide subcategories of module categories to obtain certain auto-equivalences over them. Another part of the paper deals with Auslander algebras arising from algebras of finite representation type. In fact, we apply our results to study the Auslander-Reiten translates of simple modules over such algebras. In the last parts, we try to recognize particular components in the stable Auslander-Reiten quiver of Auslander algebras arising from self-injective algebras of finite representation type.
We present a very natural but yet useful criterion to detect vanishing of essential algebras of a Green biset functor $A$ by means of morphisms. We introduce the morphisms $Inf:A \rightarrow A_G$ and $Res:A_G\rightarrow A$ to prove that the class of groups for which the essential algebras do not vanish is the same for $A$ and any shifted functor $A_G$. We use the kernel of $Res$ to give a characterization of the seeds of simple $A_G$-modules which are not obtained as pullback of simple $A$-modules.
We study the existence and uniqueness of minimal right determiners in various categories. Particularly in a Hom-finite hereditary abelian category with enough projectives, we prove that the Auslander-Reiten-Smalø-Ringel formula of the minimal right determiner still holds. As an application, we give a formula of minimal right determiners in the category of finitely presented representations of strongly locally finite quivers.
This is a generalization of some results of Ma-Sauter from module categories over artin algebras to more general functor categories (and partly to exact categories). In particular, we generalize the definition of a faithfully balanced module to a faithfully balanced subcategory and find the generalizations of dualities and characterizations from Ma-Sauter.
We analyze Auslander-Reiten quivers of functorially finite resolving subcategories. Chapter 1 gives a short introduction into the basic definitions and theorems of Auslander-Reiten theory in A-mod. We generalize these definitions and theorems in Chapter 2 and prove generalizations of the first and one and a half Brauer-Thrall conjecture for functorially finite resolving subcategories. Moreover, we show that sectional paths in Auslander-Reiten-quivers are invariants of decompositions of morphisms into sums of compositions of irreducible morphisms between indecomposable modules and are strongly …
We study hearts of cotorsion pairs in triangulated and exact categories. We give a sufficient and necessary condition when the hearts have enough projectives. We also show in such condition they are equivalent to functor categories over cohearts of the cotorsion pairs.
We show that every simple transitive $2$-representation of the $2$-category of projective functors for a certain quotient of the quadratic dual of the preprojective algebra associated with a tree is equivalent to a cell $2$-representation.
We study rooted cluster algebras and rooted cluster morphisms which were introduced in \cite{ADS13} recently and cluster structures in $2$-Calabi-Yau triangulated categories. An example of rooted cluster morphism which is not ideal is given, this clarifies a doubt in \cite{ADS13}. We introduce the notion of frozenization of a seed and show that an injective rooted cluster morphism always arises from a frozenization and a subseed. Moreover, it is a section if and only if it arises from a subseed. This answers the Problem 7.7 in \cite{ADS13}. We prove that an inducible rooted cluster morphism is…
The cluster morphism category of an hereditary algebra was introduced in [5] to show that the picture space of an hereditary algebra of finite representation type is a $K(π,1)$ for the associated picture group, thereby allowing for the computation of the homology of picture groups of finite type as carried out in [7] for the case of $A_n$. In this paper we show that the cluster morphism category is a $CAT(0)$-category for hereditary algebras of finite or tame type with only small tubes. As a consequence, we get that the classifying space of the cluster morphism category is a locally $CAT(0)$ s…
Almost split sequences lie in the heart of Auslander-Reiten theory. This paper deals with the structure of almost split sequences with certain ending terms in the morphism category of an Artin algebra $Λ$. Firstly we try to interpret the Auslander-Reiten translates of particular objects in the morphism category in terms of the Auslander-Reiten translations within the category of $Λ$-modules, and then use them to calculate almost split sequences. In classical representation theory of algebras, it is quite important to recognize the midterms of almost split sequences. As such, another part of th…
In the previous article "Hearts of twin cotorsion pairs on exact categories", we introduced the notion of the heart for any cotorsion pair on an exact category with enough projectives and injectives, and showed that it is an abelian category. In this paper, we construct a half exact functor from the exact category to the heart. This is analog of the construction of Abe and Nakaoka for triangulated categories. We will also use this half exact functor to find out a sufficient condition when two different hearts are equivalent.
In this paper we continue the project of generalizing tilting theory to the category of contravariant functors $Mod(C)$, from a skeletally small preadditive category $C$ to the category of abelian groups. We introduced the notion of a a generalized tilting category $T$, and extended Happel's theorem to $Mod(C)$. We proved that there is an equivalence of triangulated categories $D^b (Mod(C))\cong Db (Mod(T))$. In the case of dualizing varieties, we proved a version of Happel's theorem for the categories of finitely presented functors. We also proved in this paper, that there exists a relation b…
$τ$-cluster morphism categories, introduced by Buan and Marsh, are a generalization of cluster morphism categories (defined by Igusa and Todorov). We show the classifying space of such a category is a cube complex, generalizing results of Igusa and Todorov and Igusa. Furthermore, the fundamental group of this space is the picture group of the algebra, first defined by Igusa, Todorov, and Weyman. Finally, we show that for Nakayama algebras, this space is a $K(π,1)$. The key step is a combinatorial proof that, for Nakayama algebras, 2-simple minded collections are characterized by pairwise compa…
We define locally wide finitary 2-categories by relaxing the definition of finitary 2-categories to allow infinitely many objects and isomorphism classes of 1-morphisms and infinite dimensional hom-spaces of 2-morphisms. After defining related concepts including transitive 2-representations in this setting, we provide a new method of constructing coalgebra 1-morphisms associated to transitive 2-representations of locally wide weakly fiat 2-categories, and demonstrate that any such transitive 2-representation is equivalent to a certain subcategory of the category of comodule 1-morphisms over th…
The concept of a morphism determined by an object provides a method to construct or classify morphisms in a fixed category. We show that this works particularly well for triangulated categories having Serre duality. Another application of this concept arises from a reformulation of Freyd's generating hypothesis.
We develop an obstruction theory for the existence and uniqueness of a solution to the gluing problem for a destriction functor and apply it to some well-known biset functors. The obstruction groups for this theory are reduced cohomology groups of a category ${\mathcal D}_G$, whose objects are the sections $(U,V)$ of $G$ with $V\neq 1$, and whose morphisms are defined as a generalization of morphisms in the orbit category. Using this obstruction theory, we calculate the obstruction group for the Dade group of a $p$-group when $p$ is odd.
We prove the existence of cluster characters for Hom-infinite cluster categories. For this purpose, we introduce a suitable mutation-invariant subcategory of the cluster category. We sketch how to apply our results in order to categorify any skew-symmetric cluster algebra. More applications and a comparison to Derksen-Weyman-Zelevinsky's results will be given in a future paper.
We show that direct summands of certain additive functors arising as bifunctors with a fixed argument in an abelian category are again of that form whenever the fixed argument has finite length or, more generally, satisfies the descending chain condition on images of nested endomorphisms. In particular, this provides a positive answer to a conjecture of M. Auslander in the case of categories of finite modules over artin algebras. This implies that the covariant Ext functors are the only injectives in the category of defect-zero finitely presented functors on such categories.
We give a construction of triangulated categories as quotients of exact categories where the subclass of objects sent to zero is defined by a triple of functors. This includes the cases of homotopy and stable module categories. These categories naturally fit into a framework of relative derived categories, and once we prove that there are decent resolutions of complexes, we are able to prove many familiar results in homological algebra.
Relative theories(=closed subfunctors) are considered in exact, triangulated and extriangulated categories by Dräxler-Reiten-Smalø-Solberg-Keller, Beligiannis and Herschend-Liu-Nakaoka, respectively. We give a construction method of closed subfunctors from given half exact functors which contains existing constructions. Moreover, if an extriangulated category has enough projective objects, then every closed subfunctor is obtained by this construction.
We describe a procedure for constructing morphisms in additive categories, combining Auslander's concept of a morphism determined by an object with the existence of flat covers. Also, we show how flat covers are turned into projective covers, and we interprete these constructions in terms of adjoint functors.
We study certain Schur functors which preserve singularity categories of rings and we apply them to study the singularity category of triangular matrix rings. In particular, combining these results with Buchweitz-Happel's theorem, we can describe singularity categories of certain non-Gorenstein rings via the stable category of maximal Cohen-Macaulay modules. Three concrete examples of finite-dimensional algebras with the same singularity category are discussed.
Tilting theory has been a very important tool in the classification of finite dimensional algebras of finite and tame representation type, as well as, in many other branches of mathematics. Happel [Ha] proved that generalized tilting induces derived equivalences between module categories, and tilting complexes were used by Rickard [Ri] to develop a general Morita theory of derived categories. In the other hand, functor categories were introduced in representation theory by M. Auslander and used in his proof of the first Brauer- Thrall conjecture and later on, used systematically in his joint w…
In this survey, we first present basic facts on A-infinity algebras and modules including their use in describing triangulated categories. Then we describe the Quillen model approach to A-infinity structures following K. Lefevre's thesis. Finally, starting from an idea of V. Lyubashenko's, we give a conceptual construction of A-infinity functor categories using a suitable closed monoidal category of cocategories. In particular, this yields a natural construction of the bialgebra structure on the bar construction of the Hochschild complex of an associative algebra.
We introduce Nakayama functors for coalgebras and investigate their basic properties. These functors are expressed by certain (co)ends as in the finite case discussed by Fuchs, Schaumann, and Schweigert. This observation allows us to define Nakayama functors for Frobenius tensor categories in an intrinsic way. As applications, we establish the categorical Radford $S^4$-formula for Frobenius tensor categories and obtain some related results. These are generalizations of works of Etingof, Nikshych, and Ostrik on finite tensor categories and some known facts on co-Frobenius Hopf algebras.
Highest weight categories are described in terms of standard objects and recollements of abelian categories, working over an arbitrary commutative base ring. Then the highest weight structure for categories of strict polynomial functors is explained, using the theory of Schur and Weyl functors. A consequence is the well-known fact that Schur algebras are quasi-hereditary.
Let $k$ be a commutative $\mathbb{Q}$-algebra. We study families of functors between categories of finitely generated $R$-modules which are defined for all commutative $k$-algebras $R$ simultaneously and are compatible with base changes. These operations turn out to be Schur functors associated to $k$-linear representations of symmetric groups. This result is closely related to Macdonald's classification of polynomial functors.
We study liftings of abelian model structures to categories of chain complexes and construct a realization functor from the derived category of a Grothendieck abelian category equipped with a cofibrantly generated, hereditary abelian model structure to the homotopy category of that model structure.
We obtain Morita invariant versions of Eilenberg-Watts type theorems, relating Deligne products of finite linear categories to categories of left exact as well as of right exact functors. This makes it possible to switch between different functor categories as well as Deligne products, which is often very convenient. For instance, we can show that applying the equivalence from left exact to right exact functors to the identity functor, regarded as a left exact functor, gives a Nakayama functor. The equivalences of categories we exhibit are compatible with the structure of module categories ove…
From certain triangle functors, called non-negative functors, between the bounded derived categories of abelian categories with enough projective objects, we introduce their stable functors which are certain additive functors between the stable categories of the abelian categories. The construction generalizes a previous work by Hu and Xi. We show that the stable functors of non-negative functors have nice exactness property and are compatible with composition of functors. This allows us to compare conveniently the homological properties of objects linked by the stable functors. Particularly, …
We study finitary 2-categories associated to dual projection functors for finite dimensional associative algebras. In the case of path algebras of admissible tree quivers (which includes all Dynkin quivers of type A) we show that the monoid generated by dual projection functors is the Hecke-Kiselman monoid of the underlying quiver and also obtain a presentation for the monoid of indecomposable subbimodules of the identity bimodule.
In this paper we describe an inductive machinery to investigate asymptotic behaviors of homology groups and related invariants of representations of certain graded combinatorial categories over a commutative Noetherian ring $k$, via introducing inductive functors which generalize important properties of shift functors of $\mathrm{FI}$-modules. In particular, a sufficient criterion for finiteness of Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of finitely generated representations of these categories is obtained. As applications, we show that a few important infinite combinatorial categories appearing in rep…
We consider all Bott-Samelson varieties ${\rm BS}(s)$ for a fixed connected semisimple complex algebraic group with maximal torus $T$ as the class of objects of some category. The class of morphisms of this category is an extension of the class of canonical (inserting the neutral element) morphisms ${\rm BS}(s)\hookrightarrow{\rm BS}(s')$, where $s$ is a subsequence of $s'$. Every morphism of the new category induces a map between the $T$-fixed points but not necessarily between the whole varieties. We construct a contravariant functor from this new category to the category of graded $H^\bulle…
Auslander and Kleiner proved in 1994 an abstract version of Green correspondence for pairs of adjoint functors between three categories. They produce additive quotients of certain subcategories giving the classical Green correspondence in the special setting of modular representation theory. Carlson, Peng and Wheeler showed in 1998 that Green correspondence in the classical setting of modular representation theory is actually an equivalence between triangulated categories with respect to a non standard triangulated structure. In the present note we first define and study a version of relative …
Consider the obvious functor from the unbounded derived category of all finitely generated modules over a left noetherian ring $R$ to the unbounded derived category of all modules. We answer the natural question whether this functor defines an equivalence onto the full subcategory of complexes with finitely generated cohomology modules in two special cases. If $R$ is a quasi-Frobenius ring of infinite global dimension, then this functor is not full. If $R$ has finite left global dimension, this functor is an equivalence. We also prove variants of the latter assertion for left coherent rings, f…
