Several methods for studying the nature of a resonance are applied to resonances recently discovered in the bottonomium and charmonium sectors. We employ the effective-range expansion, the saturation of the width and compositeness of a resonance, as well as direct fits to data. The latter stem from generic $S$-matrix parameterization that account for relevant dynamical features associated to channels that couple strongly in an energy region around the resonance masses, in which their thresholds also lie. We report on results obtained with these methods for the resonances $Z_b(10610)$, $Z_b(10650)$, $Z_{cs}(3985)$, $Z_c(3900)$, $X(4020)$, $X(6900)$, $X(6825)$, and $P_{cs}(4459)$.
Recently the concept of compositeness has been developed so as to distinguish whether interested hadrons are hadronic molecules or not. Here, in terms of compositeness, we investigate $\bar{K} N$ molecular structure of the $Λ(1405)$ resonance with the $Λ(1405)$ radiative decay and $K \bar{K}$ molecular structure of the $a_{0} (980)$ and $f_{0} (980)$ resonances with the $a_{0} (980)$-$f_{0} (980)$ mixing.
The structure of the hadron resonances attracts much attention, in association with the recent observations of various exotic hadrons which do not fit well in the conventional picture. These findings urge us to consider various new configurations such as the multiquark states and the hadronic molecules. However, it is a subtle problem to define a proper classification scheme for the hadron structure, and the nonzero decay width of the hadron resonances makes the analysis complicated. In this paper, we summarize the recent developments in the studies of the structure of the hadron resonances, f…
The composite nature of a shallow bound state is studied by using the weak-binding relation, which connects the compositeness of the bound state with observables. We first show that the previous weak-binding relation cannot be applied to the system with a large effective range. To overcome this difficulty, we introduce the finite-range correction by redefining the typical length scale in the weak-binding relation. A method to estimate the uncertainty of the compositeness is proposed. It is numerically demonstrated that the range correction enlarges the applicable region of the weak-binding rel…
We develop a theoretical framework to investigate the two-body composite structure of a resonance as well as a bound state from its wave function. For this purpose, we introduce both one-body bare states and two-body scattering states, and define the compositeness as a fraction of the contribution of the two-body wave function to the normalization of the total wave function. Writing down explicitly the wave function for a resonance state obtained with a general separable interaction, we formulate the compositeness in terms of the position of the resonance pole, the residue of the scattering am…
A new handed interaction between subconstituents of quarks could be at the origin of some small parity violating effects in one-jet inclusive production. Within a few years, the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) will be used as a polarized proton-proton collider. In this context, we analyse the possibilities of disentangling some new parity violating effects from the standard spin asymmetries which are expected due to the Standard Model QCD-Weak interference. We also explore the possibilities of placing some more stringent limits on the quark compositeness scale $Λ$ thanks to measurements…
We present the recent developments in the studies of the structure of hadron resonances, focusing on the compositeness in terms of the hadronic degrees of freedom. We discuss the model dependence of the compositeness, and show that the structure of the near-threshold bound states and resonances is model-independently determined. The applications to various hadrons are summarized.
The internal structure of exotic hadron candidates are studied from the viewpoint of the compositeness of near-threshold states. We focus on the Weinberg's weak-binding relation between the experimental observables and the compositeness of the state. First we extend the relation for quasibound states within the framework of the effective field theory. Next, considering the correction term, we develop a systematic method to estimate the uncertainty of compositeness in the weak-binding relation. Finally, applying the extended relation and the error evaluation method, we conclude that the structu…

Recently, the compositeness, defined as the norm of a two-body wave function for bound and resonance states, has been investigated to discuss the internal structure of hadrons in terms of hadronic molecular components. From the studies of the compositeness, it has been clarified that the two-body wave function of a bound state can be extracted from the residue of the scattering amplitude at the bound state pole. Of special interest is that the two-body wave function from the scattering amplitude is automatically normalized. In particular, while the compositeness is unity for energy-independent…
The non-relativistic wave function framework is applied to study the production and decay of the exotic hadrons which can be effectively described as bound states of other hadrons. Employing the factorized formulation, we investigate the production of exotic hadrons in the multiproduction processes at high energy hadronic colliders with the help of event generators. This study provides crucial information for the measurements of the relevant exotic hadrons.
We discuss the only two viable realizations of fermion compositeness described by a calculable relativistic effective field theory consistent with unitarity, crossing symmetry and analyticity: chiral-compositeness vs goldstino-compositeness. We construct the effective theory of $\mathcal{N}$ Goldstini and show how the Standard Model can emerge from this dynamics. We present new bounds on either type of compositeness, for quarks and leptons, using dilepton searches at LEP, dijets at the LHC, as well as low-energy observables and precision measurements. Remarkably, a scale of compositeness for G…
We study the interesting problem of interaction and identification of the hadronic molecules which seem to be deuteron-like structure. In particular, we propose a binding mechanism in which One Boson Exchange Potential plus Yukawa screen-like potential is applied in their relative s-wave state. We propose the dipole-like interaction between two color neutral states to form a hadronic molecule. For the identification of the hadronic molecules, the Weinberg's compositeness theorem is used to distinguish the molecule from confined (elementary) state. The present formalism predict some di-hadronic…
The anomalous dimensions of hadronic interpolators contain dynamical information on the properties of the associated hadron states. We point out that they provide, in particular, a link by which gauge-invariant information on exotic contributions to hadronic wavefunctionals can be obtained from approximate gravity duals for QCD. This is demonstrated by the holographic description of a dominant tetraquark component in the lightest scalar mesons.
Within a chiral $SU(15)$ gauge theory in which the Standard Model fermions are bound states of massless preons, we show that proton-decay operators are likely induced at the compositeness scale, $Λ_{\rm pre}$. Our estimate of the limit imposed by searches for proton decays is $Λ_{\rm pre} > 10^4 \, {\rm TeV}^{1/2} \, C_8^{1/4} \, m_{\cal Q}^{1/2}$, where $C_8$ is a rescaled coefficient of an 8-prebaryon operator induced by $SU(15)$ dynamics, and $m_{\cal Q}$ is the mass of a composite vectorlike quark. The latter has a lower limit related to the mass of a composite vectorlike lepton, which in …
Quark-lepton compositeness is a well-known beyond the Standard Model (SM) scenario with heavy exotic particles like leptoquarks (LQs) and leptogluons (LGs) etc. These particles can couple to leptons and jets simultaneously. In this letter, we use the recent CMS scalar LQ search data in the $eejj$ and $eej$ channels to probe this scenario. We recast the data in terms of a color octet partner of the SM electron (or a first generation spin-1/2 LG) that couples to an electron and a gluon via a dimension five operator suppressed by the quark-lepton compositeness scale ($Λ$). By combining different …
We investigate a recently proposed UV-complete composite Higgs scenario in the light of the first LHC runs. The model is based on a $SU(4)$ gauge group with global flavour symmetry breaking $SU(5) \to SO(5)$, giving rise to pseudo Nambu-Goldstone bosons in addition to the Higgs doublet. This includes a real and a complex electroweak triplet with exotic electric charges. Including these, as well as constraints on other exotic states, we show that LHC measurements are not yet sensitive enough to significantly constrain the model's low energy constants. The Higgs potential is described by two par…

We classify the meson and baryon long lived resonances considering quarks with electric charge 5/3 and $-4/3$ (in units of $\vert e\vert$) predicted by some 3-3-1 models. Some of these exotic resonances have the usual electric charges $0,\pm1$, others have $\pm(3,4,5)$, and the lightest ones decaying only into leptons plus known resonances. We propose another heavy $SU(3)_H$ global symmetry under which hadrons involving only exotic quarks can be constructed.
We estimate the reach of the 14 TeV LHC and future hadronic and leptonic colliders in the parameter space of the minimal composite Higgs model, outlining the complementarity of direct resonance searches and indirect information from the measurements of the Higgs boson couplings. The reach on electroweak charged spin-one resonances, taken here as representative direct signatures, is obtained from the current 8 TeV LHC limits by an extrapolation procedure which we outline and validate. The impact of electroweak precision tests, and their possible improvement at future colliders, is also quantifi…
These are the miniproceedings of the workshop "Exotic hadronic atoms, deeply bound kaonic nuclear states and antihydrogen: present results, future challenges," which was held at the European Centre for Theoretical Nuclear Physics and Related Studies (ECT*), Trento (Italy), June 19-24, 2006. The document includes a short presentation of the topics, the list of participants, and a short contribution from each speaker.
I report on the state of hadronic physics and spectroscopy as reflected in contributions to the HEP2005 Europhysics Conference. Topics of interest include lattice field theory calculations of the hadron spectrum, the continuing quest to account for the proton's spin, pentaquarks, high-statistics Dalitz-plot analyses, excited charmed--strange mesons, quarkonium spectroscopy, and the new levels associated with the charmonium spectrum. I also reflect on the goals of hadronic physics and assess the current state of the art.
Exotic mesons are striking predictions of quantum chromodynamics that go beyond the quark model. They can provide great insight into understanding phenomena such as asymptotic freedom, confinement, and dynamical symmetry breaking. This work analyzes hadronic decays of exotic mesons, with a focus on the lightest one, the $J^{PC}=1^{-+}$ $π_{1}$, in a fully relativistic formalism. The relativistic spin wave functions of normal and exotic mesons are constructed based on unitary representations of the Poincare group. The radial wave functions are obtained from phenomenological considerations of th…
The structures of the hyperon resonance $Λ(1405)$ and the scalar mesons $σ$, $f_{0}(980)$, and $a_{0}(980)$ are investigated based on the coupled-channels chiral dynamics with finite volume effect. The finite volume effect is utilized to extract the coupling constant, compositeness, and mean squared distance between two constituents of a Feshbach resonance state as well as a stable bound state. In this framework, the real-valued size of the resonance can be defined from the downward shift of the resonance pole according to the decreasing finite box size $L$ on a given closed channel. As a resu…
In this talk, multiquarks are studied microscopically in a standard quark model. In pure ground-state pentaquarks the short-range interaction is computed and it is shown to be repulsive, a narrow pentaquark cannot be in the groundstate. As a possible excitation, an additional quark-antiquark pair is then considered, and this is suggested to produce linear molecular system, with a narrow decay width. This excitation may be energetically favourable to the p-wave excitation suggested by the other pentaquark models. Here, the quarks assemble in three hadronic clusters, and the central hadron provi…
In this paper we investigate the Exotic Charmonium (EC) production in $γγ$ interactions present in proton-proton, proton-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus collisions at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) energies as well as for the proposed energies of the Future Circular Collider (FCC). Our results demonstrate that the experimental study of these processes is feasible and can be used to constrain the theoretical decay widths and shed some light on the configuration of the considered multiquark states.
We investigate the possibilities of using measurements in present and future experiments on heavy ion collisions to answer some longstanding problems in hadronic physics, namely identifying hadronic molecular states and exotic hadrons with multiquark components. The yields of a selected set of exotic hadron candidates in relativistic heavy ion collisions are discussed in the coalescence model in comparison with the statistical model. We find that the yield of a hadron is typically an order of magnitude smaller when it is a compact multiquark state, compared to that of an excited hadronic state…
Discriminating hadronic molecular and multi-quark states is a long standing problem in hadronic physics. We propose here to utilize relativistic heavy ion collisions to resolve this problem, as exotic hadron yields are expected to be strongly affected by their structures. Using the coalescence model, we find that the exotic hadron yield relative to the statistical model result is typically an order of magnitude smaller for a compact multi-quark state, and larger by a factor of two or more for a loosely bound hadronic molecule. We further find that some of the newly proposed heavy exotic states…
We report on a recent computation of the transitions of exotic bottomonium to standard bottomonium and light quark hadrons. We work under the assumption that the $Υ(10753)$ and $Υ(11020)$ can be described as the lowest laying and first excitation $1^{--}$ hybrid bottomonium states, respectively. The computation has two distinct parts: the heavy quark transition matrix elements, which are obtained in a nonrelativistic EFT incorporating the heavy quark, multipole and adiabatic expansions; and the hadronization of the gluonic operators into the light-meson final states. The single mesons producti…
New resonances with masses of order a few ${\rm TeV}$ might be discovered at the LHC. We show that no resonance that couples to electrons only through Standard Model interactions can decay to both $e^+e^-$and $γγ$ with significant branching ratios. This means that finding both electron-positron and two-photon final states is evidence that electrons couple directly to the new physics associated with the resonance and furthermore that the resonance is not spin-1. The least fine-tuned such examples involve electron compositeness. One such example, Kaluza Klein excitations of the graviton in the v…
In the last decades, the number of exotic candidates which are beyond the conventional quark model has grown dramatically. At the same time, numerous theoretical interpretations, such as tetraquark, hybrid, hadroquarkonium and hadronic molecule, have been proposed to understand their nature. In principle, all the configurations with the same quantum numbers can mix with each other. Thus at present we aim at identifying the prominent component. As an extended object, a hadronic molecule has some distinguishable features from other more compact configurations. In the end, the two $Z_b$ states ar…
The diquark exotics which couple to a pair of quarks are predicted by the Compositeness and Superstring inspired E_{6} model. We study the single production of scalar diquarks at LHeC based gamma p collider options. The background for three jet final states are examined through appropriate kinematical cuts. We discuss the possibility of measurements for the charges of scalar diquarks (qq and qq').
Identifying hadronic molecular states and/or hadrons with multi-quark components either with or without exotic quantum numbers is a long standing challenge in hadronic physics. We suggest that studying the production of these hadrons in relativistic heavy ion collisions offer a promising resolution to this problem as yields of exotic hadrons are expected to be strongly affected by their structures. Using the coalescence model for hadron production, we find that compared to the case of a non-exotic hadron with normal quark numbers, the yield of an exotic hadron is typically an order of magnitud…
We predict several new exotic doubly-heavy hadronic resonances, inferring from the observed exotic bottomonium-like and charmonium-like narrow states $X(3872)$, $Z_b(10610)$, $Z_b(10650)$, $Z_c(3900)$, and $Z_c(4020/4025)$. We interpret the binding mechanism as mostly molecular-like isospin-exchange attraction between two heavy-light mesons in a relative S-wave state. We then generalize it to other systems containing two heavy hadrons which can couple through isospin exchange. The new predicted states include resonances in meson-meson, meson-baryon, baryon-baryon, and baryon-antibaryon channel…
Conventionally invariant mass or transverse momentum techniques have been used to probe for any formation of some exotic or unusual resonance states in high energy collision. In this work, we have applied symmetry scaling based complex network approach to study exotic resonance/hadronic states utilizing the clustering coefficients and associated scaling parameter extracted with the complex network based technique of Visibility Graph. We have analyzed the data of Pb-Pb collision data sample at 2.76 TeV from ALICE Collaboration and analyzed different patterns of symmetry scaling, scale-freeness,…
Heavy ion collisions (HIC) at high energies are excellent ways for producing heavy hadrons and composite particles. With upgraded detectors at RHIC and LHC, it has become possible to measure hadrons beyond their ground states. Therefore, HIC provide a new method for studying exotic hadrons that are either hadronic molecular states or compact multiquark systems. Because their structures are related to the fundamental properties of QCD, studying exotic hadrons is currently one of the most active areas of research in hadron physics. Experiments carried out at various accelerator facilities have i…
Lots of charmonium-like structures have been observed in the last two decades. Most of them have quantum numbers that can be formed by a pair of charm and anticharm quarks, thus it is difficult to unambiguously identify the exotic ones among them. In this Letter, by exploiting heavy quark spin symmetry, we present a robust prediction of the hadronic molecular scenario, where the $ψ(4230),ψ(4360)$ and $ψ(4415)$ are identified as $D\bar D_1,D^*\bar D_1$ and $D^*\bar D^*_2$ bound states, respectively. We show that a flavor-neutral charmonium-like exotic state with quantum numbers $J^{PC}=0^{--}$,…
We evaluate a hadronic molecule formed by a heavy meson and a nucleon respecting heavy quark symmetry. The tensor force of pion exchange potential plays a dominate role to produce an strong attraction in this system. Solving coupled channel Schrödinger equations for PN and P* N, we find many bound and resonant states with isospin I=0 while there are few resonances in I=1 state. The rich structures with I=0 indicate that the spectrum of heavy baryons near the threshold is influenced by the contributions from such hadron composite structures.
The spectrum of hadrons is the manifestation of color confinement of quantum chromodynamics. Hadronic resonances correspond to poles of the S-matrix. Since 2003, lots of new hadron resonant structures were discovered in the mass regions from light mesons to hadrons containing a pair of a heavy quark and an antiquark. Many of them are candidates of exotic hadrons, and they are usually observed as peaks in invariant mass distributions. However, the S-matrix also has kinematical singularities due to the on-shellness of intermediate particles for a process, such as two-body thresholds and triangle…
We discuss selected and important features of hadronic molecules as one of promising forms of exotic hadrons near thresholds. Using examples of $D \bar D^*$ systems such as $X(3872)$ and $Z_c$, emphasis is put on the roles of the one pion exchange interaction between them and their coupling to intrinsic quark states. Thus hadronic molecules emerge as admixtures of the dominant long-range hadron structure and short-range quark structure. For the pion exchange interaction, properties of the tensor force are analyzed in detail. More coupled channels supply more attractions, and heavier constituen…
We investigate the production and absorption of $Z_b (10610)$ and $Z_b ^{\prime}(10650)$ states in a hadronic medium, via the processes $\bar{B}^{(*)} B^{(*)} \rightarrow πZ_b ^{(\prime)} $ and the corresponding inverses reactions. We use effective field Lagrangians based on an $SU(4)$-extension of the hidden gauge formalism to account for the couplings between light and heavy mesons, and a phenomenological Lagrangian involving the $ B^{\ast} B^{(\ast)} Z_b ^{(\prime)}$ vertices. The absorption cross sections are found to be much larger than the production ones.
