With the accumulation of experimental data, more and more exotic hadrons are observed. Among the interpretations of these exotic hadrons, molecular state and compact multiquark are two of the most popular pictures. However, it is still difficult to determine the structure of an exotic hadron. In this work, we propose a possible way to detect the internal structure of an exotic state. When a molecular state composed of two consistent hadrons is attacked by another particle, one of the constituents should be kicked out while another quasifree constituent stays almost unaffected. It is different from a compact multiquark which has no obvious subcluster. In this work, taking the $X(3872)$ as an example, we perform a Dalitz plot analysis of such reaction to find the effect of the different internal structures. Under the assumption of the $X(3872)$ as a molecular state or a compact tetraquark state, with the help of the effective Lagrangians, the Dalitz plot and the invariant mass spectrum are estimated with different total invariant mass of three final particles, and the effect of different binding energies is also discussed. Obvious event concentration can be observed as strips in the Dalitz plot and sharp peaks in the invariant mass spectrum for the $X(3872)$ with a small binding energy under the molecular state picture, while such concentration cannot be observed under the compact tetraquark picture. Such phenomenon can be applied to identify the internal structure of a new hadron state.
We classify the meson and baryon long lived resonances considering quarks with electric charge 5/3 and $-4/3$ (in units of $\vert e\vert$) predicted by some 3-3-1 models. Some of these exotic resonances have the usual electric charges $0,\pm1$, others have $\pm(3,4,5)$, and the lightest ones decaying only into leptons plus known resonances. We propose another heavy $SU(3)_H$ global symmetry under which hadrons involving only exotic quarks can be constructed.
These are the miniproceedings of the workshop "Exotic hadronic atoms, deeply bound kaonic nuclear states and antihydrogen: present results, future challenges," which was held at the European Centre for Theoretical Nuclear Physics and Related Studies (ECT*), Trento (Italy), June 19-24, 2006. The document includes a short presentation of the topics, the list of participants, and a short contribution from each speaker.
I report on the state of hadronic physics and spectroscopy as reflected in contributions to the HEP2005 Europhysics Conference. Topics of interest include lattice field theory calculations of the hadron spectrum, the continuing quest to account for the proton's spin, pentaquarks, high-statistics Dalitz-plot analyses, excited charmed--strange mesons, quarkonium spectroscopy, and the new levels associated with the charmonium spectrum. I also reflect on the goals of hadronic physics and assess the current state of the art.
Exotic mesons are striking predictions of quantum chromodynamics that go beyond the quark model. They can provide great insight into understanding phenomena such as asymptotic freedom, confinement, and dynamical symmetry breaking. This work analyzes hadronic decays of exotic mesons, with a focus on the lightest one, the $J^{PC}=1^{-+}$ $π_{1}$, in a fully relativistic formalism. The relativistic spin wave functions of normal and exotic mesons are constructed based on unitary representations of the Poincare group. The radial wave functions are obtained from phenomenological considerations of th…
In this talk, multiquarks are studied microscopically in a standard quark model. In pure ground-state pentaquarks the short-range interaction is computed and it is shown to be repulsive, a narrow pentaquark cannot be in the groundstate. As a possible excitation, an additional quark-antiquark pair is then considered, and this is suggested to produce linear molecular system, with a narrow decay width. This excitation may be energetically favourable to the p-wave excitation suggested by the other pentaquark models. Here, the quarks assemble in three hadronic clusters, and the central hadron provi…
We report on a recent computation of the transitions of exotic bottomonium to standard bottomonium and light quark hadrons. We work under the assumption that the $Υ(10753)$ and $Υ(11020)$ can be described as the lowest laying and first excitation $1^{--}$ hybrid bottomonium states, respectively. The computation has two distinct parts: the heavy quark transition matrix elements, which are obtained in a nonrelativistic EFT incorporating the heavy quark, multipole and adiabatic expansions; and the hadronization of the gluonic operators into the light-meson final states. The single mesons producti…
The non-relativistic wave function framework is applied to study the production and decay of the exotic hadrons which can be effectively described as bound states of other hadrons. Employing the factorized formulation, we investigate the production of exotic hadrons in the multiproduction processes at high energy hadronic colliders with the help of event generators. This study provides crucial information for the measurements of the relevant exotic hadrons.
In the last decades, the number of exotic candidates which are beyond the conventional quark model has grown dramatically. At the same time, numerous theoretical interpretations, such as tetraquark, hybrid, hadroquarkonium and hadronic molecule, have been proposed to understand their nature. In principle, all the configurations with the same quantum numbers can mix with each other. Thus at present we aim at identifying the prominent component. As an extended object, a hadronic molecule has some distinguishable features from other more compact configurations. In the end, the two $Z_b$ states ar…
The anomalous dimensions of hadronic interpolators contain dynamical information on the properties of the associated hadron states. We point out that they provide, in particular, a link by which gauge-invariant information on exotic contributions to hadronic wavefunctionals can be obtained from approximate gravity duals for QCD. This is demonstrated by the holographic description of a dominant tetraquark component in the lightest scalar mesons.
In this paper we investigate the Exotic Charmonium (EC) production in $γγ$ interactions present in proton-proton, proton-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus collisions at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) energies as well as for the proposed energies of the Future Circular Collider (FCC). Our results demonstrate that the experimental study of these processes is feasible and can be used to constrain the theoretical decay widths and shed some light on the configuration of the considered multiquark states.
Several methods for studying the nature of a resonance are applied to resonances recently discovered in the bottonomium and charmonium sectors. We employ the effective-range expansion, the saturation of the width and compositeness of a resonance, as well as direct fits to data. The latter stem from generic $S$-matrix parameterization that account for relevant dynamical features associated to channels that couple strongly in an energy region around the resonance masses, in which their thresholds also lie. We report on results obtained with these methods for the resonances $Z_b(10610)$, $Z_b(106…
We predict several new exotic doubly-heavy hadronic resonances, inferring from the observed exotic bottomonium-like and charmonium-like narrow states $X(3872)$, $Z_b(10610)$, $Z_b(10650)$, $Z_c(3900)$, and $Z_c(4020/4025)$. We interpret the binding mechanism as mostly molecular-like isospin-exchange attraction between two heavy-light mesons in a relative S-wave state. We then generalize it to other systems containing two heavy hadrons which can couple through isospin exchange. The new predicted states include resonances in meson-meson, meson-baryon, baryon-baryon, and baryon-antibaryon channel…
Conventionally invariant mass or transverse momentum techniques have been used to probe for any formation of some exotic or unusual resonance states in high energy collision. In this work, we have applied symmetry scaling based complex network approach to study exotic resonance/hadronic states utilizing the clustering coefficients and associated scaling parameter extracted with the complex network based technique of Visibility Graph. We have analyzed the data of Pb-Pb collision data sample at 2.76 TeV from ALICE Collaboration and analyzed different patterns of symmetry scaling, scale-freeness,…
QCD justification of SU(m/n) supergroups are shown to provide a basis for the existence of an approximate hadronic supersymmetry. Effective Hamiltonian of the relativistic quark model is derived, leading to hadronic mass formulae in remarkable agreement with experiments. Bilocal approximation to hadronic structure and incorporation of color through octonion algebra (based on quark-antidiquark symmetry) is also shown to predict exotic diquark-antidiquark ($D-\bar{D}$) meson states. A minimal supersymmetric sceme based on $SU(3)^c \times SU(6/1)$ that excludes exotics is constructed. Symmetries …
Pion exchange in S-wave between hadrons that are themselves in a relative S-wave is shown to shift energies by hundreds of MeV, leading to deeply bound quasi-molecular states. In the case of charmed mesons $D^*,D_1$ a spectroscopy arises consistent with enigmatic charmonium states observed above 4 GeV in $e^+e^-$ annihilation. A possible explanation of $Y(4260)\to ψππ$ and $Y(4360) \to ψ'ππ$ is found. We give results for all isospin and charge-conjugation combinations, and comment on flavor exotic doubly charmed states and bottomonium analogs. A search in $D\bar{D}3π$ is recommended to test th…
Exotic stable massive particles (SMP) are proposed in a number of scenarios of physics beyond the Standard Model. It is important that LHC experiments are able to detect hadronic SMP with masses around the TeV scale. To do this, an understanding of the interactions of SMPs in matter is required. In this paper a Regge-based model of $R$-hadron scattering is extended and implemented in Geant-4.
Hadronic production of nonrelativistic boundstates of $b^{\prime}$ or isosinglet quarks D with suppressed weak decays is investigated for LHC and SSC energies. QCD corrections to production and decay rates are incorporated. Large rates for final states from $η_{b^{\prime}}\rightarrow HZ$ are predicted.
We investigate the possibilities of using measurements in present and future experiments on heavy ion collisions to answer some longstanding problems in hadronic physics, namely identifying hadronic molecular states and exotic hadrons with multiquark components. The yields of a selected set of exotic hadron candidates in relativistic heavy ion collisions are discussed in the coalescence model in comparison with the statistical model. We find that the yield of a hadron is typically an order of magnitude smaller when it is a compact multiquark state, compared to that of an excited hadronic state…
Nucleus-nucleus collisions offer a great opportunity for analyzing and determining the intrinsic nature of heavy and exotic hadrons. In this sense, here we discuss how the production and dissociation of hadron states are affected by reactions during the expansion of hadronic matter in a heavy-ion collision environment. We give emphasis to recent works on exotic states, revisiting as a case study the time evolution of the abundances of the $X_{0,1}(2900)$ states.
Discriminating hadronic molecular and multi-quark states is a long standing problem in hadronic physics. We propose here to utilize relativistic heavy ion collisions to resolve this problem, as exotic hadron yields are expected to be strongly affected by their structures. Using the coalescence model, we find that the exotic hadron yield relative to the statistical model result is typically an order of magnitude smaller for a compact multi-quark state, and larger by a factor of two or more for a loosely bound hadronic molecule. We further find that some of the newly proposed heavy exotic states…

Lots of charmonium-like structures have been observed in the last two decades. Most of them have quantum numbers that can be formed by a pair of charm and anticharm quarks, thus it is difficult to unambiguously identify the exotic ones among them. In this Letter, by exploiting heavy quark spin symmetry, we present a robust prediction of the hadronic molecular scenario, where the $ψ(4230),ψ(4360)$ and $ψ(4415)$ are identified as $D\bar D_1,D^*\bar D_1$ and $D^*\bar D^*_2$ bound states, respectively. We show that a flavor-neutral charmonium-like exotic state with quantum numbers $J^{PC}=0^{--}$,…
We demonstrate that the azimuthal dependence of central meson production in hadronic collisions, when suitably binned, provides unambiguous tests of whether the Pomeron couples like a conserved vector-current to protons. We discuss the possibility of discriminating between q-qbar and glueball production in such processes. Our predictions apply also to meson production in tagged two-photon events at electron--positron colliders and to vector-meson production in ep collisions at HERA.
Multiquark systems such as tetraquarks, pentaquarks and hexaquarks states are studied as di-hadronic molecules in a nonrelativistic model. The masses of several di-hadronic states using a molecular interaction provided by asymptotic expression of the confined gluon exchange potential are computed. The exotic states such as f$_0$ (0.982), f$_2$ (1.565), f$_2$ (1.950), X(3.87), D$_{sJ}$ (2.317, 2.460, 2.632), $ψ$(4.040) etc are identified as the low lying di-mesonic states, and $Θ^+$ (1.54) as a $K-N$ molecular state.
Inclusive production cross sections of the possible exotic state X(3872) in proton-proton, pionp-roton and proton-antiproton collisions are calculated using a statistical based model, which is previously used to describe inclusive charmed and bottomed hadron production cross sections in the low energy region. With the extensions made here, the model is capable to include tetraquarks as well, using the diquark picture of tetraquarks. The evaluated cross section ratio of $Ψ(2S)$ and $X(3872)$ at $\sqrt{s}=7$ TeV agrees well with the measured value.
In the past few years the field of hadron spectroscopy has seen renewed interest due to the pubblication, initially mostly from B-Factories, of evidences of states that do not match regular spectroscopy, but are rather candidates for bound states with additional quarks or gluons. A huge effort in understanding the nature of this new states and in building a new spectroscopy is ongoing. This report reviews the experimental and theoretical state of the art on heavy quarkonium exotic spectroscopy, with particular attention on the steps towards a global picture.

The strongly repulsive core of the short-range nucleon-nucleon interaction leads to the existence of high-momentum nucleons in nuclei. Inclusive electron scattering can be used to probe these high-momentum nucleons and study the nature of the corresponding short-range correlations in nuclei. With recent data from Jefferson Lab we have begun to map out the strength of two-nucleon correlations in nuclei, while upcoming experiments should allow us to isolate the presence of multi-nucleon correlations. In addition to their importance in describing nuclear structure, these configurations of correla…
Neural networks are trained to judge whether or not an exotic state is a hadronic molecule of a given channel according its line-shapes. This method performs well in both trainings and validation tests. As applications, it is applied to study $X(3872)$, $X(4260)$ and $Z_c(3900)$. The results show that $Z_c(3900)$ should be regarded as a $\bar{D}^* D$ molecular state but $X(3872)$ not. As for $X(4260)$, it can not be a molecular state of $χ_{c0}ω$. Some discussions on $X_1(2900)$ are also provided.
The discovery of hadronic states beyond the conventional two-quark meson and three-quark baryon picture in the last two decades is one of the most amazing accomplishments in fundamental physics research. Many experiments contributed to this field despite of the original goals of the design. We review the experimental progress on the study of the quarkoniumlike states -- states with at least one heavy quark-antiquark pair and possible light quarks, also known as XYZ states. We give a general review and then focus on the new experimental results on the X(3872) and its bottom-quark partner X_b, t…
Exploring the hadronic phase with momentum and azimuthal distribution of short-lived resonances and understanding the internal structure of exotic resonances with ALICE
The concept of Large Extra Dimensions (LED) provides a way of solving the Hierarchy Problem which concerns the weakness of gravity compared with the strong and electro-weak forces. A consequence of LED is that miniature Black Holes (mini-BHs) may be produced at the Large Hadron Collider in p+p collisions. The present work uses the CHARYBDIS mini-BH generator code to simulate the hadronic signal which might be expected in a mid-rapidity particle tracking detector from the decay of these exotic objects if indeed they are produced. An estimate is also given for Pb+Pb collisions.
We study the hadronic molecular structure of hidden heavy pentaquarks - new exotic states composed of charmed/bottom baryons and $D(D^*)/B(B^*)$ mesons. Based on the observation of three pentaquark candidates $P_c^+(4312)$, $P_c^+(4440)$, and $P_c^+(4457)$ by the LHCb Collaboration we consider the classification of possible flavor partners composed of charmed baryons and $D(D^*)$ mesons within the hadronic molecular approach. We extend this classification to the bottom sector. Using phenomenological Lagrangians we construct baryon-meson bound states governed by the Weinberg-Salam compositeness…
This work investigates whether the observed 1^-+ exotic mesons are molecular states. We first use a potential model to calculate the spectra and lifetimes of the f_0(980) and a_0(980), taken to be loosely bound molecular states of K Kbar, then apply the same scenario to the 1^-+ exotic states pi_1(1400) and pi_1(1600), assuming them to be pi eta(1295) and pi eta(1440) molecules respectively. We derive the effective potential in the framework of field theory at the hadronic level. Our results indicate that the present data on pi_1(1400) and pi_1(1600) rule out the specific molecular ansatz. We …
CP violating signals in semileptonic $τ$ decays induced by an exotic scalar exchange are studied in a completely model-independent way. These can be observed in decays of unpolarized single $τ$'s even if their rest frame cannot be reconstructed. No beam polarization is required. The importance of the two-meson channel, in particular the $Kπ$ final state is emphasized.
Using the general form of the generalized Bethe-Salpeter wave functions for four-quark states describing the meson-meson molecular structure given in our previous work, we obtain the general formulas for the decay widths of molecular states composed of two vector mesons with arbitrary spin and parity into two photons. Then this general formalism is applied to investigate the radiative two-photon decay of the obeserved \emph{X}(3915) state, where this exotic state \emph{X}(3915) is considered as a molecular state consisting of two heavy vector mesons $D^{*0}\bar{D}^{*0}$. The numerical result o…
Identifying hadronic molecular states and/or hadrons with multi-quark components either with or without exotic quantum numbers is a long standing challenge in hadronic physics. We suggest that studying the production of these hadrons in relativistic heavy ion collisions offer a promising resolution to this problem as yields of exotic hadrons are expected to be strongly affected by their structures. Using the coalescence model for hadron production, we find that compared to the case of a non-exotic hadron with normal quark numbers, the yield of an exotic hadron is typically an order of magnitud…

Confining dark sectors with pseudo-conformal dynamics produce SUEP, or Soft Unclustered Energy Patterns, at colliders: isotropic dark hadrons with soft and democratic energies. We target the experimental nightmare scenario, SUEPs in exotic Higgs decays, where all dark hadrons decay promptly to SM hadrons. First, we identify three promising observables, the charged particle multiplicity, the event ring isotropy, and the matrix of geometric distances between charged tracks. Their patterns can be exploited through a cut-and-count search, supervised machine learning, or an unsupervised autoencoder…
Illuminating all-hadronic final states with a photon: Exotic decays of the Higgs boson to four bottom quarks in vector boson fusion plus gamma at hadron colliders
Based on the fact that the long expected pentaquark which possesses the exotic quantum numbers of $B=1$ and $S=1$ was not experimentally found, although exotic states of $XYZ$ have been observed recently, we conjecture that the heavy flavors may play an important role in stabilizing the hadronic structures beyond the traditional $q\bar q$ and $qqq$ composites.
Heavy ion collisions (HIC) at high energies are excellent ways for producing heavy hadrons and composite particles. With upgraded detectors at RHIC and LHC, it has become possible to measure hadrons beyond their ground states. Therefore, HIC provide a new method for studying exotic hadrons that are either hadronic molecular states or compact multiquark systems. Because their structures are related to the fundamental properties of QCD, studying exotic hadrons is currently one of the most active areas of research in hadron physics. Experiments carried out at various accelerator facilities have i…
We have used the dynamically constrained phase space coalescence model to study the production of the exotic state $X(3872)$ based on the hadronic final states generated by the parton and hadron cascade model (PACIAE) with $|y|<1$ and $p_T < 15.5$ GeV/c in $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=7$ and 13 TeV, respectively. Here the $X(3872)$ is assumed to consist of bound state $D\bar {D^*}$, which can form three possible structures for the tetraquark state, the nucleus-like state, and the molecular state. The yields of three different structures $X(3872)$ were predicted. The transverse momentum distrib…
The spectrum of hadrons is the manifestation of color confinement of quantum chromodynamics. Hadronic resonances correspond to poles of the S-matrix. Since 2003, lots of new hadron resonant structures were discovered in the mass regions from light mesons to hadrons containing a pair of a heavy quark and an antiquark. Many of them are candidates of exotic hadrons, and they are usually observed as peaks in invariant mass distributions. However, the S-matrix also has kinematical singularities due to the on-shellness of intermediate particles for a process, such as two-body thresholds and triangle…
I review here the most recent results about the observation and the study of hadronic bound states that do not fit well in the standard quarkonium picture. Several new states have been observed in the last few years, at B-, tau-Factories and hadron colliders. For most of them, quantum number determinations are available and allow to develop the basis of a new spectroscopy based on exotic compounds like tetraquarks or meson molecules. Nonetheless, there is still a lot of work to do to complete the picture.
